Hillary knows this election is about ideals, not individuals, and she appealed to party unity with magnanimity more than worthy of her caus
Hillary's delivered her best speech last night. Take what you want from it but she proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that she's the gal to lead this country. Use your vote wisely, use it to elect JOHN McCAIN as the next President of the United States.
Thank you all,
Osaka
How is voting for someone who doesn't share Hillary's views for this country better than voting for someone who does. Use YOUR vote to get YOUR ideals into office and to see YOUR major issues tackled. Don't use it as revenge, because then we all lose and spend another 4 years with an inept leader.
Have you been listening to the repubs spin on Hill's speech? I'm not sure what they were listening to or who they spoke to, but they seem to think the speech was not unifying. They have been repeating the mantra all morning that the Dems are still divided. Talk about denial! These guys have been lying to their base for so long they don't know how to stop. Even when it's clear that the truth is different from what they say they just keep on lying. Repubs strategy since Bush Sr. - "If we say it enough times people will think it's true." Think for yourselves America. If you want to be lied to constantly and treated like a imbecile vote Rep. The truth is on the floor at the DNC.
After hearing Senator Clinton last evening, I an now more then ever voting McCain. I was not going to vote at all,,but my mid is made up now.
Clinton was clearly the best hope to beat the republicans in Nov. Obama was anointed by the DNC with far less credentials and credibility. He is ill prepared to lead this country. I will hope for a Obama defeat and a Hillary challenge in 2014----as yes folks---I am a life-long democrat, but the party has failed --once again in its responsibilities to bring forth a viable candidate---this time again was no exception.
McCain will get my vote based on integrity and honor---not some poor excuse about party unity. They failed---they will pay a price once again. I do not fear a McCain presidency---he is no Bush.
Do votes count Barack was not appointed he won through the primary process. If Hillary had won I would support her too - but alas she did not win. In large part to not being prepared so much for experience. Vote McCain based on what??? He was a POW???
If Hillary supporters openly revolt in 2008, why would Obama voters support Hillary in 2012? Remember, Obama voters currently make up slightly more than 50% of the democratic party.
I highly doubt you are a lifelong democrat. I think you are a conservative Republican trying to make a split where none exists.
That is a very sad statement to make if you are a true Democrat. As was express by others yesterday, this election of about the future(Obama) not the past(McCain). There are so many issues at stake now that required a youthful forwarding thinking visionary. Such people come around Once in a lifetime.....So please reflectover your decision again. Please vote for your interest and what is a stake.
Voting for McCain is not the answer. Vote for Obama and when he becomes President he will put our girl Hillary in the white house with a very good job. Some place with a lot to do. How about Secretary of State? I always thought that job was better than being President.
What did she say to convince you to vote for McCain? Was it the "No way. No How. No McCain"? Your respect for Hillary is ironic. Thank you for showing your depth of commitment to the Democratic ideals she spoke about. McCain should do you proud when he continues "4 more years of the last 8 years" Hillary so clearly despised.
It is sad that you can only see one vision of success for the Democratic Party. Everyone keeps saying -- he doesn't have experience, but neither does Clinton in this top role. Can she deliver a great, 'bring the house down speech'? Yes, but so can he. Remember his neophyte role many years back as we pushed for Bill Clinton's reelection? Was he not crowned the up-and-coming person to watch for the Dems in future elections?
I think if we all followed your line of thinking, for those of us who really like Hillary but for ourselves can't seem to embrace her as our top leader, even if the year marks 2012 instead of 2016, then we should not follow the hopes and dreams of promoting the party, but should instead give in to our dislike and hatred of (a) either the candidate himself, (b) the Democratic establishment who "wronged us", or (c) to our own egos, or all of the above.
That's not progress, that's definitely not supposed to be democratic, and that's surely not what millions of disenfranchised women and blacks in this country have fought so hard for in pressing for the right to vote, the right to be heard and given a shot at the ideals of american unity.
You appear highly unpatriotic and insensitive to the true history and calling that Hillary's message sent last night. I hope you enjoy more years of McCain in support of your decision, and as a lifelong Dem., and person who makes a very comfortable Mc-Cain type of backer living/salary, your decision won't impact me, but will impact those in this country who are in greatly in need of change in the White House for their survival.
I just don't see how you can be a lifelong democrat yet vote against healthcare, and against gay rights, and against helping every person in this country in favor of what? More war, more squandering of our tax money, less public assistance, and just MORE OF THE SAME.
As democrats we have loyalties, to our party, to our beliefs, to our country. I too voted for Hillary. She didn't win. I don't agree with it. But, I don't agree with McCain even more. No way, no how, no McCain.
Just what does McCain winning office get us? A deluded hope that he'll do so badly that Hillary will have a chance in the next election? WAKE UP we could vote a president in now who could lead this country back to greatness, isn't that what it's all about? It's not about swaying the world so Hillary can win, it's about America.
For me, ABORTION is THE issue that defines the DNC and why I can't vote for them, even though I really like Obama/Biden on the other issues. I just refuse to have my intelligence as a human being continually insulted by the DNC position on abortion, they simply won't make room for me and what I hold dear... rather they throw up Pelosi and NARAL and Planned Parenthood, they finally got Emily's List behind Barack. This is just more pandering to special interests, no different than Republicans.
Every 3rd grader on up knows that human life begins at conception, as confirmed by every medical doctor and every scientist. So stop telling me that only a higher power ("higher pay grade") can determine that, and even if that were true, certainly the Supreme Court can't "legislate" that either. There is no point in the spectrum of human life, from conception to natural death, where anybody (Supreme Court or politician) can tell me that life can be taken. Hitler tried that, to a limited (6 million) success. That goes for war and the death penalty too, gotta stop all of it. Life is a gift! Look around you, see your brothers and sisters, see the trees and the flowers and animals.. LIFE! How precious this "animation", a force we have the priveledge to CREATE in the womb, thus we MUST cherish it!!! And not confuse our children by killing it... so innocent, so wonderful!!!
As long as the Dems can't make room for me and continue to promote abortion as a "right", then I can't be a Democrat, which is really unfair to me! We ought to strive for all the "ideals" as a nation, and yes, that means "ideally", no abortions, just adoptions, lots of love and forgiveness for all.
Peace!
I will reply to all those who disagree with me on this issue.
NO Obama is not qualified to be president--plain and simple---he is no JFK---though so many of you Obama supporters like to link him to that time in history--thanks in part to some of the Kennedy's themselves. AN yes, I "was" a lifelong registered democrat, and I do remember democratic presidents who failed the test once in office, and I held out hope that the party would STOP for once and for all this nonsense of liberal ways of solving problems. This did happen with Bill Clinton---finally a democrat who carried the party platform with pride and yet reminded all of us---that we are Americans first---. Hillary would have served the party and the people of this country in that same manner---if not a bit better because of her perspective.
Obama's theme is great at appealing to emotions --things we wish for, But wake up folks---we are living in very dangerous times, and the days of feel good politics are over. We need experience and proven leadership. Look, I don't hate Obama, given more time in the Senate, more positions of authority on international and economic matters---one day he too would be prepared for the office---just not today. And yes, the party failed us ....again. I voted for Dean in the primaries a few years back---live and learn. I WILL vote McCain, he has earned my vote, even though I disagree with some of the party platform. My loyality is not solely to the party first----but to the country that I live in.
Good speech for her future. She does't want him to win.
A full fledged support of obama isn't wanting him to win? She even asked a very tough question of her supporters - were they in it for her or were they in it for all those people who don't have healthcare, or who can't go to college because its not affordable.
"No Way, No How, No McCain"...I think its safe to say shes in Obama's camp.
True, she did say that, BUT she said nothing about Obama being 'ready' to lead which would have taking down her pervious accusations about him being an inept president. The republicans can now still use her past words against him.
"Barack Obama is my candidate. And he must be our President… Nothing less than the fate of our nation and the future of our children hang in the balance." I would say this pretty much confirms that she thinks he is ready enough.
Candidates throw mud in campaigns... they always have and they likely always will. Part of that is our fault... as we sit around the TV screen waiting for the insults to fly, because it's what we've come to expect.
In the primary, Hillary thought she was more ready than Obama - if she didn't feel that way, why in the world would she have still been running? Now that she is no longer in the race, she would be comparing Obama's readiness to McCain's. Clearly, she says Obama is her choice. I don't see this as being all that hard to grasp.
All that said... is anybody ever really ready for arguably the most difficult job in the world? I think that what Senator Clinton told us last night that is that she thinks Senator Obama is ABLE... and that's good endorsement in my book.
I find it odd that we democrats are looking to Clinton and not Obama for Unity. If we truly wanted her to be our leader, we should have picked her as our nominee and not Barack. Barack needs to exceed Hillary's leadership, reach out and unite the party, after all he is the nominee. Barack needs to stop waiting for someone else to do the work he needs to be doing himself.
Hillary was incredible last night. She did herself, Obama, and the nation a real service. I was never a Hillary supporter, but this was her best speech ever. I hope her supporters take her advice and recognize that this is about the future (the Supreme Court, international relations, avoiding unnecessary wars, and so on). She will be incredibly valuable in the Senate in the shorter term. Obama's administration won't be able to get things done without strong voices like hers passing the needed legislation. Thanks to her for being so professional and setting a strong example for all women both in seeking the Presidency and in being such a gracious "bridesmaid."
Lets face it, Hillary wants to be President. It is not in her best political interest to see Obama win. She has a better shot at being President in 4 years if Obama loses. She did a great job of explaining and defining her views and goals but did not come out and say "He's the man"
Of course Hillary wants to be President... she just waged a year and a half's worth of campaigning trying to get elected President. She got my primary vote.
"Barack Obama is my candidate. And he must be our President." That sounds like "he's the man" to me.
All the Hillary-ites WILL commit the SIN of doing to OBAMA what Ralph Nader and his supporters did to Al Gore. Old Bigoted Chicks. Yikes
Actually, Ralph nader is suppose to be running so he may really be the spoiler once again.
Hillary spent most of her speech, while not a bad speech, touting herself and the whole "I am woman" thing. She mentioned Obama by name several times but never really said anything positive about his character or what kind of president he would be. Anyway, John McCain will butcher Obama in the upcoming debates, then Americans will see how Obama deals with having his back against the wall.
Great Speech from Hillary. CLASS ACT !!! When Hillary gives a speech, you can see and feel her heart in your words. Last night I didn't see that. She did what the party wanted and NEEDED from her. I don't know what the democrats are thinking, but after last night, I am convinced she is still the better candidate.
McCain has my vote
Awesome job. She did magnanimously could not have been better. I am a proud woman and mother and is more confident that my daughter has a greater opportunity to achieve even much more than she did because she paved the way for all our young daughters. The message of unity was resounding and it echoed loud and clear. It went all the way to dismiss the detractors. i always believed in her and know that her word is her bond. She is a real woman who puts her money where her mouth is. I always knew she would be t here for Obama it was only a matter of time. Once again she delivered for all women. Go Hillary and victory for OBAMA!
Sharon Mc.
For not a couple of 'early' primary elections, Mr Obama would have been making this endorsement speech, also saving himself for another opportunity. I will honor Hillary's request to back Mr. Obama, as she said, it is about the People, I couldn't agree more.
I am a strong Obama supporter but Hilary speech was an awesome speech. She left no stone unturned and no doubt in my mind that she is ready to put the primary campaign behind her and unit the party. she did it without sounding defeated of pressured. that is the true meaning of democratic politics. and she was right to say in other words that to sit on the sidelines is not an option and if her supporter believe in her ,they would not vote for McCain or stay home but vote for Barack Obama.
It was sad. Never any substance. The biggest problem I have seen with Obama and the democratic party is that all they have are complaints. Not yet have I seen any one of them come back with a real solution to anything. This campaign should be about what the candidates can do for this country, not just "I am not Bush". Even with all of the glitter for his campaign, and the poor popularity polls for Bush, Obama has a shady past, it will come back to haunt him, and it will cost him the election.
AND BUSH - THE ALCOHOLIC DRUG ADDICT DIDN'T HAVE A SHADY PAST - WAKE UP - DON'T MAKE THE MISTAKES THE COUNTRY DID THE LAST 2 ELECTIONS - WE HAVE TO ERASE THE MISTAKES OF THE LAST 7 AND A HALF YEARS AND IT IS NOT WITH MCBUSH. DEMOCRATS HAVE TO UNITE - I THINK THEY HAVE - ONLY THE MEDIA AND THE MCBUSH CAMP THINK OTHERWISE - YES THERE WILL ALWAYS BE SOME HOLDOUTS - BUT LET THAT NOT STOP US!!!!! NOW WE HAVE TO CONVINCE THE INDEPENDENTS AND WE HAVE TO GET OUT THE VOTE - ESPECIALLY THE YOUNG VOTE. THEY WILL PUT US OVER THE TOP.
The media insists on turning Hillary's gracious endorsement of Obama into a sow's ear. First they speculated as to whether she would support Obama at all. Then whether she would do so without many devisive conditions and restrictions. But low and behold, the former first lady has done so with open armed generosity. So what does the press do? They go after her "body language." (See CBS story) Why don't they go after McCain's body language (that disgusting, Bush like little smirk) and a lot more that is damning to HIS candidacy? Obama and the Democrats are getting some of the crummiest press treatment I've ever seen. They will regret it if it helps put McCain in the White House.
I am tired of hearing that Obama isnt ready, he has no experience. What experience does John McCain have other than being in the Senate. I dont understand, just wait till he nominates Romney, you havent heard anything. Those two hated each other
I am a registered Republican, but would have voted for Hillary hands down, and will never vote for Obama. Hillary said it herself, he's not qualified to be President. I think the Democrates made the wrong choice. My vote will go to McCain.
And President Bush was no more qualified to be President than my dog. The only reason why he got there was dumb ass people like yourself and his daddy.
For anyone that claims to be a democrat and will not vote for Barack Obama because they are sad that Hillary didn't win should immediately register as a Republican. I am so sick of people like that one delegate that was shown on CNN crying her eyes out saying that she is the biggest Democrat but she doesn't know if she is going to vote because she wanted Hillary. I say to her and to anyone like her, GO AWAY!! You are no more of a Democrat that John McCain. You people would rather see everything she stands for destroyed because you think she was robbed? She agreed to the party rules and at every opportunity when things were not going her way, she tried to change the rules. I never once heard Barack Obama complain when he lost a state. You people make me sick. A real Democrat would stand behind Barack Obama no, tomorrow and in January when he is sworn in. If he looses this election, you people will need to shut up for the next 4 years of the McBush administration. I admire the Hillary supporters who are now standing firmly behind Barack. Those are the real Democrats that care more about the country than the name on the ticket. I am proud to stand by them. The rest of you, go stand next to Joe Lieberman. You make as much sense as he does.
Hillary did a great job and her execution was spot on. She did what she needed to do for Obama, the Clinton brand and the Democratic party. I would expect nothing less considering the nasty things she said about Obama during the primaries.
Now Bill has the opportunity to follow the same path tonight. The Clintons don't want to be blamed in any way if Obama should lose the election. It's time for Bill and Biden to get down and dirty. Biden can do it in a way that McCain will never know what freight train hit him.
I feel that Hillary did a lot to unite the party. Those who still can't bring themselves to vote for Barack.....well, they are thinking with their heart and not their heads.... their attachment to Hillary is emotional.
Obama/ Biden 8/12
I supported Hillary but I already knew that I was going to support Obama because I can't afford 4 more years of Republican policy. I was not able to watch Hillary's speech but I did read the speech and it gave me goosebumps. I could "hear" her delivering this speech and know how powerful of a moment it must have been to be there. I don't know how people can say it really doesn't matter who you elect when the last 8 years was such a STARK contrast from the previous 8 years when a democrat was in office. The irony to me is that so many republicans want another republican so they can keep more money in their pocket. I don't see that they got what they paid for or what they'll have to continue to pay for to get us out of the huge pile of debt the Republicans racked up in their 6 years of legislative supported dictatorship.

For some. However- REAL CHANGE would have been to shorten the DNCC and to use those millions of taxpayer $$ to helping the people in the US
