I kept waiting to be inspired, and I saw petty cheap shots. So much for bringing people together. He actually lost my vote tonight.
All the greatness of this country that allowed him his wonderful history...28 years was under Republicans and only 20 under Democrats...doesn't he owe Republicans a huge Thank You???
It may have been 28 years under Republicans but that doesn't mean its been good, God knows the last eight have been awful. We can't afford another 4 more years of Republicans in the white house. I was a little leery of Obama when he ran for president. Not that he couldn't be a good or great president, but that he needed some more time in politics dealing with the issues that affect us abroad and at home. But he is risen to the challenge. With Joe Biden as his VP this will be a great team.
One of the main reasons Obama could say this is because the Republicans hadn't yet succeeded in doing away with all of the benefits begun by Progressives, mostly Democrats.
Ronnie Raygun was an abject failure; but no one realized it at the time because he was such a great actor.
Will people now fail to see they are letting themselves be hoodwinked again if they elect McCain? II hope not because we really have an opportunity to change American back into the dream it was and can be again.
Yeah right, because the Republicans were responsible for all of the hard work he did, or the tremendous efforts he has made to get where he is? You make a good point though, he has been alive to witness alot of Republicans in power, so he is pretty well informed when it comes to understanding their failures. He's had to endure them, just like every other rational thinking American. The Republicans don't deserve a "thank you" for jack squat. Just a swift kick in the hindquarters, because their time is up! 8 years of disgrace, dysfunction, and failure after failure after failure. It is time for change, it is time for a leader who doesn't embarass us every time he opens his mouth. It is time for America to get back on track. Something is stirring in America alright, millions of unsatisfied citizens who expect more from their leaders. It is time for Barack Obama.
YES WE CAN!
Could some of the negative people please explain to me exactly what it is you don't like about Obama? Are you currently happy and/or at least complacent with the current state of this nation?
The last 8 years afford none of us anything to be proud of...suspension of habeus corpus and the Geneva Convention, unauthorized and illegal eavesdropping on American citizens, an unjustified and misguided war, and complete incompetence at every level of the Executive branch of government. Yeah, you Republicans can go ahead and celebrate your "accomplishments" these past 8 years...just be prepared to be held accountable come January 20th, 2009. Ronald Reagan and Barry Goldwater are ashamed of you.
Yeah getting rid of Bush is like getting rid of Clinton.
Why should he owe them anything? Republicans have changed the party has changed not for the better but the worse. When I was a republican it was the party of Lincoln and all people of this country were looked after in the same manner. Now it is nothing more than a shell of what it used to be. Nothing more than a shill for the special interest they used to hate. Maybe a good shellacking in the election this year will shock this party and they will start to listen to the people who they forget about the day after a successful election.
Yes! He tells us about his meager early life and how he made it to Harvard because of his own hard work, but now he wants the government to provide a college degree for everyone. If we are completely dependent on the government for all our needs, what happens to character building thru hard work?
This shows Obama has the guts to make decisions from his own heart and mind without his popularity being first priority. It also shows he has the wisdom to know that these kind of choices enrich one's life more than just taking shortcuts.
Ha ha ha, good joke, but we've been hearing that same joke for 8 years.
Bin Laden's driver found basically INNOCENT of the trumped up charges, but the administration still isn't going to release him. Bush ignores the Geneva Convention by claiming that ANYONE they arrest is a terrorist.
"All intelligence agencies believed Hussein had wmd's"????????????????????????????????????? Best joke of all. NOBODY with any credibility believed that beforehand, and Bush-Cheney intentionally FALSIFIED information and IGNORED evidence to the contrary.
Don't you elephants have any better arguments after all this time? Oh right, you don't!
everybody knows by now that all the info Bush got on Iraq was actually bogus info from puppets from Iraq who were not privy to what Saddam was doing.... stop looking at Faux TV and look at public tv to find out the truth
Don in California
You are crazy Bush work only with the information he had ? You mean only the information he was told cause he didn't read and the weapon that Hussein had we gave him during the war between Iraq and Iran.
I am not sure what you mean that he did a good job.
Everyone who keeps saying the whole 'he has no experience' have been scared by Republican tacticts to just stick with MORE OF THE SAME because it's comfortable. TAKE A CHANCE! Obama was exactly right when he said Republican's are trying to scare American's into thinking something different is wrong. Clearly, to keep more of the same, more of President Bush's policies would be much much worse for this country and our future generations. You heard it - MCCAIN AGREED WITH BUSH ON 90% OF THE POLICIES AND DECISIONS HE MADE. SO THAT'S THE KIND OF EXPERIENCE WE WANT TO BE IN THE WHITE HOUSE ALL OVER AGAIN? So what Obama doesn't have a 30 year record like McCain. McCain has a 30 year record of being JUST LIKE BUSH.
Republican's only care about themselves and could care less about the less fortunate, the economy, health care for those dying and unable to get help!
To Bill Inman: Thank you for the Southern Strategy? Thank you for supporting segregation and redlining? Thank you for gutting the Civil Rights Bureau? Thank you for ignoring AIDS until it started affecting white, straight people? Thank you for purging the rolls of black voters in Florida? Thank you for Pulling voting machines out of black districts in Ohio in 2000 and 2004 and beefing them up in the white suburbs?
You and Democrat Geraldine Ferraro seem to be occupying the same delusional universe. Maybe you should be dating or something.
I agree that there have been some great times under republican leadership but the last 7 3/4 have been a disaster. His message of working together is what we need NOW. His message of personal responsibility is what we need NOW. His message of our country not being a red country or a blue country but OUR country is what we need now. Take the credit you need for the good that came under republicans but also take responsibility for the very bad.
.
Sammy, you MUST be racist!!! If in this day in age you cannot accept a man who is ONLY HALF BLACK, then maybe you should go live in Paraguay and take the Bush's with you!!!
you, my friend, need to take a chill pill and calm down. no matter what your views or opinions, the venom you spew is the reason our republican party has the reputation it has. feel free to attack with valid, smart, arguments... but your tone and vocabulary makes me think you are either mentally unbalanced and dangerous, or just pretending and playing a role.
seriously, reconsider your life and look for inner peace.
Don In California, you said "unauthorized and illegal eavesdropping on American citizens - never happened. only on overseas calls with suspected terrorists."
That's false, the unauthorized and illegal eavesdropping took place even BEFORE 9/11. As for your other statements, I see others on here have already corrected you. You have to realize, there are other sources of information than Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reiley.
He's just another Carter; no experience and extreme left. Wait till all the facts come out regarding his association with crooks!
Should have been Hillary!!!!!!!!!
Obama owes nothing to the Repuglycants for their 28 years running the country. With the exception of Eisenhower's "Little Rock" moment, there is no Repuglycant historical or philosophical dedication to a pro-Civil Rights position. Repuglycants have voted consistently AGAINST extensions of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965, just as they have consistently voted against pro-labor laws, social welfare laws, national health insurance, and other measures that would strengthen this country internally and make us a better people. But give the Repuglycants a chance to vote for war and murder and mayhem, as in Grenada, Panama, Gulf 1 and Iraq/Gulf 2, spending hundreds of billions of dollars on death and destruction (the Iraq War has already cost the taxpayers over $500 billion dollars, and wasted over 3500 American lives and over 100,000 Iraqi lives), and McCain and company will line-up to kiss Bush's ass and toe the Repuglycant party line forever and a day. What a joke!
Sammy tone down the caps-lock button - i think it makes You seem less than smart, besides the hateful content. Michelle Obama is a beautiful human being and you calling her 'UGLY' etc is not constructive. It is actually pretty amusing that your writings here possibly show who really is ignorant in this case

It'd be real nice of you folks would pay attention to what is said before posting. The candidate said he will offer a $4000/yr tax credit to anyone wanting to attend college, not a degree. That's quite different is it not? Have you priced the cost of one year of college at a respectable institution, lately. Based on your comment, I'd seriously doubt it.
If I'm wrong, attribute this quote:
" It is better to remain quiet and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."
Zach B,
Be nice. Sammy's trying to work out some things. :-D
Evidently, you didn't do the background reading or you would have understood that the candidate is offering a $4000/yr tax credit for anyone that wants to attend college. That's just a bit different from a "college degree" for everyone. And, if you've priced the cost of a college education lately, we'd have to believe that you haven't based on your lack of preparation before posting, you'd realize that the tax credit is not significant enough to offset the cost of a decent college education.
Let's sharpen those research skills shall we? Attribute this quote:
"It is better to remain quiet and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."
Oh, no, Obama gave me hope for regaining the integrity of our constitution. The last eight years made me fear for the ideals that our founders fought to put on paper like a bible for our beliefs. Nicholas Cage was told he couldn't steal the constitution in his last movie, but GW tried. My family has been in America for 400 years and the 4th of July was more important than Christmas to my father's people. George Bush made me ashamed when he said that our constitution was just a piece of paper. He's been a paper President who sees progress in dollar marks. I knew he was arrogant the first time I heard him speak and he makes America look arrogant. He's even so arrogant as to think God is on his side above the other people in our world. History will paint the colors of his wind....oily and black...
Hey guys, let's all try to take the high road that Obama is trying to pave. Both parties are responsible for part of the mess we're in and both parties have tried to do what they think is best. If we're going to get anywhere we have to stop blaming each other and come together as Americans. THAT was the point of the final part of his speech.
Obama is all flash with no substance; if everyone would look at his resume, his voting record, his stance on all issue, his associations and get off of this idea that McCain is 4 more years of Bush, Barry wouldn't even be in the race. McCain has repeatedly demonstrated that he can work across the divide (check his senate record); change is not always for the best so be careful what you wish for. If you don't like America and you believe that America is a messed up country then move to anywhere else in the world and you'll see the grass is not always greener.
"All the greatness of this country that allowed him his wonderful history...28 years was under Republicans and only 20 under Democrats...doesn't he owe Republicans a huge Thank You???"
Thanks for pointing that out genius! But since noone needs to be grateful for the last eight years, perhaps we'll just call it even. I think thanking his parents, grandparents, and those who actually personally formed his history, as well as all his poetic praise of this great country is enuf. Give me a break!!!!!!
What incredibly convoluted thinking! What Obama (and others have) accomplished was IN SPITE of the ultra right wing -- not because of it!
I watched Obama speak in 2004 and said to my sister at that time, this man will run for President in 2008. My intuitions were correct...now we will have a new President finally who gets what middle class and poverty is! No more yes man Bush. And those who say Barack has no experience? What about those who voted Bush in...did he have experience??? He did what everybody told him to do and look where we are now...I've never seen our country in such a mess economically and my nephew is going back for his 3rd term to Iraq...Whatever you believe, please listen to your conscious when voting. Where is all the moral dignity in American of helping our neighborhoods and those less fortunate. You never saw Bush on the streets of Chicago or New Orleans when my cousins were in despair during Katrina and they are upper class business owners. It is time for a new leader who gets it and is in touch with the American people.. Hail to our new Chief and Commander Barack Obama.!
That's the biggest problem with the trickle down theory. No matter HOW MUCH YOU work for something someone else always wants to take credit (like for the opportunity to work so hard for them). Unbelievable!!
Insofar as human rights, we owe the Republicans very little. Rather, it shows the fortitude of the Democratic Party and the people it represents that with fewers years, much more was accomplished.
SAMMY-452714,
You must be joking, that is the only thing that could explain that rant. Although, we may have to believe you were being serious because it does kind of fit into the radical right's belief system. You are constantly shouting that everyone who disagrees with you is an idiot, just like the radical right. You are making outrageous claims which can be shown as false with a little bit of research (check off outrageous claims and little research on the radical right comparison sheet). You are threatening to impeach a man who isn't even president yet (check off unnecessary impeachment from the sheet). You are saying that his wife is ugly, when she is clearly quite attractive (check off blinded by racism). You are blaming the left for things the right does, such as creating a bigger government (see Department of Homeland Security) and being baby killers (we have one of the highest infant mortality rates in the industrial world because the right will not allow the poor to have health care). And, in your own special way, you have shown your true affection for Mr. Bush by modeling your writing style after his less than eloquent spoken language.
If you are not joking, SHUT UP! Just because you are the poster child of the ideal Republican education system for the poor does not mean you have to shout it at us. I can not believe I have to do this, but I really think you also need to be told that you are clearly functionally illiterate. I tell you this because you may be a little to slow to understand that. Spell check is also a cool thing, you should check it out.
Hey Don (in Cali).
"an unjustified and misguided war - all intelligence agencies believed Hussein had wmd's. President Bush worked with the info he had and did a good job. "
Alright... blatently wrong but if that is what you want to believe. U.S. and British agents had contact with the Iraqi intelligence cheif before we invaded and the intelligence he was providing us was that they definately did not have WMDs. Supposidly the White House ordered the CIA to forge a handwritten, backdated letter from the Iraqi intelligence chief for the purpose of supporting the invasion.
Ohh and:
"suspension of habeus corpus - only for non-citizens not even in this country. "
Yes, because only U.S. Citizens deserve fundamental rights, like the right to not be held in prison indefinately without any sort of charge or review as to what they had done wrong. I am so glad to hear that all our efforts to export democracy and basic human freedoms now only applies to those we think deserve those rights and freedoms. As for the "not even in this country" statement? Would you say it's morally acceptable to say... have sex with children in Thailand? I mean its not even in this country whats the big deal?
I'm glad you have a political opinion, but seriously... do some independant thinking for awhile.
Are you kidding??? Republicans suck and most are racist and elitists. NO ONE OWES THEM THANKS! THANKS FOR NOTHING. .
Interestingly, Bush's two terms raised more tax revenue, more new jobs and a lower unemployment than any democratic president. But, his error on the Iraq war ruined him. Clinton average 6.5% unemployment and ran up the deficit (save 18 months in years 6&7 when Rubin changed the assumptions.
LBJ's great society would have failed since the southern democrats were against it. It took republicans to pass the vote. It was a boondoggle since since then poverty is up 50%.
McCain is not Bush. Dems quote his voting record in 2007 when he follow party lines 95%. But, his ten-year average is the lowest in Congress. Obama followed party lines 98% of the time and never had a bipartisan bill offered.
You best remember the fight McCain had and lost to cut costs. Obama talks big, But a nomination is like a first date. He can't spend or tax his way out of the mess the demo Congress got us in by accepting bad mortgages. The only way is to cut costs. But, Obama's promise are spending ones. This is an issue of the dollar. If Obama wins, that is a big "if", he will be a one-term wonder.
Yes I guess he does...but the speech, without the coronation ceremony which followed, was uninspiring and lackluster, offered nothing new and re-hashed all of his primary stump speeches. It did nothing to change anyone real vote.
Good God - No!
Obama/Biden - What A Great Way To Go!!!!
Thank the republicans.....you so silly...
No, he doesn't, because the 20 years of Democratic control has been spent cleaning up the 20 years of Republican control. Now, he has another eight years to clean up!
When Reagan left office he more than doubled Carters deficit to 200+ billion.
After Bush I, the deficit was 300+ billion.
After Clinton, we had a surplus of 200+ billion. Thats a positive 500 billion.
After Bush II, the deficit is 482 billion.
Thats a negative 900 billion, excluding the war which is the 1st in U.S. history the government has not raised taxes to pay for, and the war party says they want to decrease taxes across the board.
It wastes a lot of time cleaning up after these fiscal maniacs.
Reading the posting, you can hear the Republican Party's spin - Rock Star - All flash with no substance like Paris Hilton. Wow
Why so many undecided voters? Whats the problem? Were he completely white, would the polls show a double digit lead.
I'm from Arizona, we have a great respect for John McCain, not just for his war record, but his refusal to add pork barrels selling to buy votes, unlike so many senates. But really, looking and listening to him, how can anyone possible believe he is the man of change?
The problems of our country are run deep, I don't want our kids to drown. As much I respect John, it's hard to believe that so many people are confused.
I wish John McCain would have beaten Bush, and become president eight years ago.
That's as much thanks, I can find.
For what, running up deficits? The economy did better with the Dems than the Repubs. The Repubs just keep pounding the drum that they are better until everybody believes their lies! Go back andlook at the statistics for the last 50 years. Its all in the numbers.
The rich and connected hijacked the Republican party right after the Civil War. The Carpetbaggers were Republicans and we know how they treated the South during Reconstruction after the war. Anything that wasn't nailed down was carted off. Read up on American history. The Republicans have NOTHING to be proud of!
Simply breathtaking! Only in America. Goodbye Bush/McCain!!!!!!
I was NOT impressed with Obama's speech - I still feel that he is all talk with no good ideas to back anything up. He loves the rock star attention, but he's NOT ready to lead this country. Hillary would have been the much better choice. Obama has a huge uphill battle on his hands.
This could prove interesting... If Obama loses PA in a tight race he will be able to go back and pin it down to the "TIMING" of tonights speech. Even though it is only pre-season Steelers fans are HARDCORE. And tonight with the score TIE and with less than 2 min to go in the "TIE" game the local stations were forced to cut from the game for his speech. My wife who is, well "was" undecided went absolutely ballistic. In the world of Steelers fans I'm sure she is not alone. So if PA is tight as predicted... how many other votes may have been decided by something as unexpected as the untimely preemption of a tie pro pre-season football game in a critical battle ground state.
Jeez GET OVER IT.
WOW, you are actually going to base your vote on missing the end of a football game? I like a great football game as much as the next person but this is our countries future people. I'm sure the Steelers game will be forgotten in time but Obama's speech tonight will go down in history.
Seriously why would anyone vote for this guy?
Heck I can get up and promise the world to a bunch of victims and have no way to back it up. I have asked everyone why they are going to vote for this guy and so far no one has even come close to having an answer that matters when you vote for a president.
Also someone let him know GWB is not running against him and that his party has been "in charge" for 20 months and has done nothing. Since they have done nothing one must assume they either can't do anything, or know that "pie in the sky" change simply is not possible.
In charge? 1/3 of govt. Not exactly in charge. and really it's 1/4, b/c senate has 60 vote rule.
Get your facts straight, please.
What are all you Obama supporters going to cling to when he is in office and nothing changes? The congressional branch of this country which is the true power, has a lower approval rating than GWB, and it is a Democratic Majority.........good luck to you all when your life does not suddenly change on January 10th 2009. But I will still be here with a smirk on my face.....
change does not happen over night my fellow american, and trust me i don't see how sen. obama could make anything any worse then they already are. You people who are afraid of change are the ones who keep this country in the state it's in. I'ts time for some serious changes. So get on the Obama band wagon and lets get this country back on track.
joe,
really... a football game will decide the fate of an election for president? then, you and your fellow PA citizens truly deserve who you get based on that "rationale"
geez... ignorance is blissed -- and prevalent for what i read so far.
ummm, i think i just got stupider.
1 - it's PRE SEASON football
2 - why are you watching pre-season football instead of our possible future President's acceptance speech
3- Steelers got nothin, Pats will win in the snow again ;) lol j/k.... sort of!
Peace, -Zach
I didn't hear anyone say that the changes were going to happen overnight.
Bush will still be occupying the White House on January 10th - the inauguration is on January 20th.
Maybe you'll still have a smirk on your face, but it'll be great not to have to see that Bush smirk or Cheney smirk anymore.
Very well stated.
Sammy?
Are you selling your medication instead of taking, again? We talked about this, didn't we? :-D
I need you to figure out what you're gonna do, 'cause we will be taking over the WH on Nov. 4, 2008. If you need help with this I'm sure there are plenty of people here that would like to offer you some suggestions.
Back away from the caps lock key and bite down on the capsule, hard!
Sammy - I read your entire diatribe even though it hurt my eyes. You obviously are very self-centered and you must be a child. Children are spiteful. I really think the Federal Government should administer intelligence and drug tests before someone is allowed to vote.
Sammy:
Try using your spell check next time. You may appear more intelligent than you actually are.....
Thank you, Sammy, now pick your drool cup back up and return to the corner, please. Thank yoouuu. Thats a nice crazy person. :-)
I agree with you 100%. Of course, 8 years ago, it was people like Sammy that got us into the mess we are experiencing today! Let's hope and pray that the intelligent Americans show up in November to vote for Obama - to the extent that the Republicans can't steal it from us again.
Sammy,
Try using your spell check next time……it MAY help you appear more intelligent than you REALLY are.
Sammy,
Try using your spell check next time……it MAY help you appear more intelligent than you REALLY are.
Sammy, stop drinking the kool-aid, take your meds and try to think happy thoughts. You are quite the knucklehead.
I live it Pittsburgh and fully understand the importance of any Steeler football night around here. Avid fan myself. However, if it was the Super Bowl or any Playoff game, I might understand slightly more. Seriously, it was only preseason and the state of our country is just a little more important right now. Personally, I wish the regular TV stations were airing all of the convention speeches so all of America could have heard Kerry, Warner, Schweitzer, Richardson, all of those Armed Service generals among others. I'm glad my Dish provider had a live feed from 5pm - 11pm so I didn't have to miss a thing!
SAMMY-452714,
I want to introduce you to my Green Shoes, they keep terrorist attacks from happening. I've been wearing them every day of my life, and I've never been the victim of a terrorist attack.
It makes about as much sense as you claiming a man who has dramatically increased the number of terrorist attacks in this world has stopped them. And it makes as much sense as your illiterate, pointless, please tell me you're drunk or joking, rants.
looks good acts pretty cool. he will get some younger voters on his side because of this. he will still fall short.
He will not fall short. This election is not about him. It is about people like me who know that a change is needed. Who finally has a candidate who reminded me that this is my country and if I am unhappy with the economy, unhappy with Washington. It is my duty and your duty as Americans to fix it. So his looks mean nothing to me. It is what I can do for my country that matters. McCain isn't asking us to do anything, even though it is obvious things are not working.
Guess what? I am an older white guy from Colorado who will proudly vote for Obama/Biden. Maybe you need to take a look at those who were at Mile High. You will notice that there are an awful lot of folks like me. I remember hope. Barak and Joe will be in the White House in January!
I am so tired of the word change. What change? Does he have experience? None. If he is elected and this country goes in the toilet you people who think he is great will have to answer to it. When he came into prior to his speech did he pledge the flag? Did he salute it? No! Now that is someone who we want to be our president when he does not honor our flag. I think not!
NEWSFLASH!!!!
Where have you been? This country is ALREADY IN THE TOILET UNDER BUSH!!!!
Pull your head out honey! Do you honestly think our country isn't already in the toilet with Bush? Obama is more patriotic than most the people writing these messages. Before you critisize maybe it would be wise to catch up on the facts!
Obama honors the flag by trying to improve America. He honors it with ACTIONS instead of symbols. Anyone can salute the flag in one breath and crap all over America in the next. That's what Bush has done. And hopefully McCain won't be next. Don't be so gullible to think that because someone salutes a flag that they'll be a better President.
Sandy, the change that are part of the Obama platform are easily accessible in his speeches and on his website. Pretending that Obama calls for generic change without specifying particulars in either policy or philosophy got old almost a year ago.
The experience attack being used against Obama is misguided. The state the country is in right now is a direct result of policy decisions made by the men in Washington with the longest resumes; guys like Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld. We need vision and charisma, hope and good judgment right now a great deal more than we need someone who has three decades in the senate under his belt.
As to the last part, please watch John Kerry's speech at this year's DNC.
He will not fall short,
Because WE will not fall short.
Not this time.
Sandy - really we have to get past the whole flag stuff stirred up by right-wingers. I'd rather have a president who has voted to provide adequate health care, better benefits and more educational opportunities for our combat veterans. McCain voted against them. Obama voted for them. Caring about our country does not mean saluting the flag every time you see it, it means creating, endorsing and working for policies that make all of our lives better, and especially for our terrific vets. On that point, McCain has been AWOL.
I am so sick and tired about the flag saluting that has been rebuked like a million times. If I come across one more ignorant person that still won't vote for him because he is a closeted Muslim I am going to go crazy. As stated here, I would rather my President's actions for me have more bearing on his patriotism than wearing a $4.00 piece of tin on his suit coat. Tell the truth and say you won't vote for Barack because of his tax plan or his education plan or his health care plan or because he is black. That would be a refreshing change instead of hiding behind the Muslim falsehoods and patriotism assassinations. But most of these people don't know any of his policy agendas - they hide behind fear that is pointless and unfounded.
I am pretty sure the speeches this week have addressed the experience nonsense idea from the Republicans. Obama has been in public service for more than 20 years. Just because he wasn't unfortunate enough to be a POW doesn't mean he doesn't have the skills needed to lead our country. You need to have the capacity to work well with others instead of surrounding yourself with "yes" men to accomplish great things.
If you look at his campaign and how fantastically it was run in regards to money, using modern day technology and stirring up grassroots support I think this shows how well he is able to run a huge endeavor smoothly. Also, the last I checked, in America we don't have a king. We have 3 branches of government. They each need to work together to achieve anything in our country. Congress has a Democratic majority by 1 vote. Anything they tried to get accomplished the last 20 months was quickly vetoed by Bush and then we didn't have enough votes to override his veto! When we get more seats in Congress this November we will finally be able to get to the real meat and potatoes of changing all of the nonsense that has been done over the last 8 years.
What they spent on this shindig sure coulda helped some of the poor slobs who are starving because of Bush.....
Mike - as great a night as tonight; with the hope and vision of Obama; you need to walk one day in the shoes of the poor!! I felt I needed to address your statement!! Many of you have the same intellect as this "poor slob" -- maybe next time you should choose your words more carefully, Mike, as your ignorance is so apparent! We need to work to unite all Americans and those words just divides us!
It will.
Mike, do you really know anyone that is starving? Just what are you doing about this. If there are those in need, we need to direct them to all the government programs we already have before adding a new level of government welfare. Do we really need a larger welfare system? Who is going to pay for all of Mr. Obama's promises. We do not have the number of millionaires needed to fund all the programs Mr.Obama proposed in his speech tonight.
If you know people who are starving, why are you not inviting them to dinner?
If you know people who are starving, why are you not inviting them to dinner?
Amen Brother Mike!
Obama's programs still cost much less than McCain's 4.7 trillion. Perhaps you need to examine and compare the cost of your own candidate, McCain's programs also before criticizing your opponent's. Obama's plan will still cost less, it will not raise taxes on low and middle income Americans, and most importantly, it will be spent to benefit the people most in need in this country--everyday Americans. Obama's programs will help rebuild this country from the people up. McCains programs and tax cuts will benefit the very top, and the money will remain in their pockets, business as usual. The deficit that Bush has created cannot be repaired overnight. Consider the fact it took 8 years of Bush's frivolous spending and tax cuts for the rich to create it.

Sometimes there is a seed dropped into good soil, that bears much fruit. Barack Obama is a good seed. Thanks be to God.
I was already for Obama before, but I was kinda a lazy supporter. After that speech, that whole 4th day in fact, I get it! I understand the severity of our times and the extreme importance and magnitude of this time in our history and I wanna be a part of it. I wanna be like those "old folks" who brag about how they helped get Kennedy elected. I'm gonna stump for Obama like crazy, I feel so energized now. I'm FIRED UP! READY TO GO!! Obama-Biden 08
No. He doesn't. He owes his thanks to his mother, his grandparents, and his mentors. They are what created his history.
And the foundation of American society and values are what allowed him to get to this point. Go Obama!!!
MSNBC TV seems to be only saying doing things that endorse Obama. If that's the point, just stick it out there and say so. I have been watching three days looking for news.
Commentators have their place for editorials. The convention coverage was not the forum!!
Just pay close attention to David Gregory. Rest assured, he will not find anything positive to say. That's what you wanted, isn't it?
Really? Going to MSNBC for News during the Democratic convention is like watching Fox News for Fair and Balanced news during the Republican Convention. Olberman and Matthews and the rest of the gang are pretty much Democrats while Fox News is on the White House Payroll until 1/20/09. Grow up and change the channel.
Even the people on TV are citizens of this country first I would asume, and there is no way to be objective about the damage that has been done to this country and the urgency of claiming a different future for it and putting our best foot forward again. Any rational person can see that the future would be better under Barack's leadership over McCain's experience. The dumbing down of this country may be at it's sunset finally, I hope
Sean-459021: You were on the wrong channel, you should have been on FOX News to hear what you wanted to hear from Shawn, Billo, and the rest of the FOX team. Remember fair and balanced with a tilt to the right.
You should have watched on C-SPAN - where there were no talking heads. Form your own opinion with no tilts - to the left or right.
You could have watched the entire event on C-Span which simply broadcast the convention with no commentary whatsoever. In which case, you would have been free to form your own impressions and opinions based on your own perceptions, background and education, as opposed to those of the pundits that would tell you what you heard and what you should think about what you heard.
Did you not know that? Apparently not. You were waiting for someone to "tell" what were your options, were you not?
Obama rocked it
Sen. Obama is what he is despite the Republicans, not because of them. Change is a'comming, and not a minute too soon.
That speech was absolutely fabulous. I don't care if you are a republican or a democrat. It was inspiring and just plain fabulous.
Everything Obama said about McCain could be turned around to apply to Biden. Biden is nearly as old as McCain and has been in the Senate LONGER than McCain. BTW, Matthews and Olbermann should get a room. They should be ashamed of the bias they both are exhibiting toward Obama. I thought journalists were supposed to be objective. Sorry, Matthews can be in the journalist category, I don't know what category Olbermann falls into.
1st... He said nothing about age (Obama doesn't discriminate), 2nd... Biden is running for VP, not President.
Neither Olbermann nor Matthews have ever professed to be jounalists, unlike Bill OhReally on Faux News, who claims to be a journalist, until it gets him into trouble, which is on average, about once a week.
Nobody is forced to watch MSNBC. Watch a different channel. Were some people actually watching that speech just to see how many ways they could find to be insulted? It was a wonderful speech! He DIDN'T say that HE would change what is wrong, he said WE will change it. If you don't want change, vote for McCain. If you WANT change you have to do two things: vote for Obama AND work for the change. He was NOT saying that the Democrats are perfect. He said that we all need to join hands and work together to change the world.
Funny, FOX, which I am sure that you watch, has no problem having a bias. Most know that MSNBC leans left, but it at least has Joe Scarborough who hates Obama. FOX has Alan Colmes who is drowned out by Hannity at every turn.
Chris Matthews and Olbermann are commentators, not journalists. I don't think that they ever claimed to be. In any case, even if you hate Obama, you can't deny the power of the the speech, or at least its delivery.
I agree. I just wonder what MSNBC gets out of this if Obama win the election?
Obama's speech was awesome and he clearly defined what he stood for. The Republicans will, of course, try to find faults - but what else can they do? Obama simply blew it out of the park. It will be hard for the GOP convention to even compare after the huge success of the Democrat's convention.
Superior intelligence, superior ideas, superior speech. Barack obviously has the qualifications to be President. Courage, commitment, just flat great speech. He will spank the inferior Repub ticket
Is it clear yet? Do you all understand now?
This has never been about Barak Obama. This is about my family and your family. About holding true to the values of our founders, and about disagreeing, but compromising to let each others live they way we were meant to live, truly free.
McSame: fewer jobs, more war, what more could a country want?
in the Saddleback talks i thought McCain came across reasonably likable - but what scared me most, in general, is that he is OBSESSED with war. His service is HIGHLY commendable for our country... but i do not want a president who focuses so profoundly disproportionately on war war war. We need to use war like Obama feels - ONLY as a last possible option - THAT is the true commitment we must make to our troops in uniform. It is the commitment i want from my President while us young people are putting our lives on the line for this country. Diplomacy is a powerful tool that can save lives. It is the smartest weapon a true leader can have.

People all over the world - of which I am one - are HOPING for Obama to win simply because he sees other countries as populated by people. McSaim is a warmonger, stuck inthe Korean war -- was it Al Gore (great speech!) who pointed out that military service is NOT a qualification for President of the US. This man is bad tempered (legendary) and a war monger. God help the rest of the world if he gets in. There will be four WORSE years, not merely more of the same.
McCain is indeed a bad tempered individual, or like we say in the street, hes an old fart with prostate problems. I still remember the huge fight he had with Puerto Rico ex governor Mr. Pedro Rosello about the Navy leaving their the Vieques island, it almost ended in a fist fight....
Powerful speech! One of the best speeches I have heard where he referred to every group, race, gender and told a story about them. Very emotional. I don't know if McCain can top that with nearly 95,000 people and millions watching
that arena sold out in a day. imagine how enormous it COULD have been!!!!!! the nation is ready!!!!! embrace this, don't be scurrrred
I have not been an Obama fan, before today, but I will proudly vote for him. I do believe he is the best choice for our country and will work to fix all of the destruction that Bush has done over the past 8 years. I pray that Obama wins this election, our country can't survive another 4 years of the same.
That is the level of discourse we need to rise too. Not "celebrity/Paris Hilton" childishness. That is the kind of nation we need to be. Individually and collectively.
To the poster bored by the speech. You'll get plenty of "exciting" fear mongering, mud-slingig and hateful divisiveness next week from Roveworld. Enjoy. We can be better than that. We must be.
Change...Obama means change, no more of the status quot. We must continue our fight for change by voting out the old government that ignored the "PEOPLE" and what we asked for, ignored what we said when we elected them and vote in "NEW BLOOD" senators and legislatures who will listen to what their constituents elected them for. Time for actual representation of their constituents rather than representation for the corporations, banks and everyone except the American People.
CHANGE!!!!! We can not continue without CHANGE!!!
I have some clarity of his plans. As an educator who has seen No Child Left Behind create crooks in the educational system I admire the the idea of reform. Bush "buddies" give each other cushy jobs and waste federal funding as children continue to fall through the cracks. I am glad to know he can fight!
I agree we need changes in public education. However, the president really has no authority to make changes in the schools. Also, what I heard Obama saying about education was not much different than all the people who jumped on the Leave No Child Left Behind wagon--hire more teachers; pay them more money; require accountability; measure success. All this sounds like No Child Left Behind--it has been an utter failure.
