Agree or Disagree: News of Sarah Palin's daughter's pregnancy is relevant to the presidential campaign

Republican John McCain's campaign revealed that the 17-year-old daughter of his presumptive running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, is pregnant. Democrat Barack Obama says reporters should "back off" stories about people's families, saying such matters are not appropriate and not relevant to the race for president.

It has nothing to do with her abilities as a candidate. I wasn't going to vote for her & McCain anyway.

It's extremely important. It shows her true character and inability to lead. Compound that with her inexperience and she's one hott mess.

It shouldn't be national news. I understand, but that poor teenage girl deserves some privacy in a very difficult situation.

It's not the pregnancy or the girl. It's the extremely poor judgement and lack of vetting by Senator McCain.

McCain failed to fully vet this candidate. Perhaps Palin should be at home with her family instead of running for mayor, governor, VP???

Teen pregnancy happens everyday in this country. Only reason this is such a big deal is because of who her mother happens to be.

With this baggage hidden for so long.  Palin should have been careful how she pointed the finger at her opponents' associations.  Yes, everyone makes mistakes, but Palin is so dogmatic in her approach and unforgiving.  She was always trying to raise suspicion.  I don't think we have had enough time to see who Palin is.  She concerns me.  Palin does not seem to have empathy for others by the choices they may have made, so why should we try to gloss over her baggage.

I think Palin should have been more cordial to Obama with this baggage she has to deal with.  She came across like she is the authority on character.  Teens will be teens.  I am not blaming palin for this, but her ways of dealing with her opponent can'nt be ignored either.  She has a questionable character to me.  Her daughter needs alot of support during this time.  Her son-in-law to be does not sound like he has realistic views.  Marriage is not the answer.  I think Sarah needs to take care of home first and help make sure her daughter doesn't end up ruining her future.  You've got to be a mom first Sarah!

The issue here is not whether or not Sarah Palin is supportive of her family.  It is her double standard of saying she was glad her daughter chose to have the baby.  According to Sarah's viewpoint, there never was a choice because Sarah does not believe in choice.  Bristol was absolutly going to have to have the baby because Sarah would have it no other way.  That is fine for her family and I personally would not want my daughter to have an abortion, but I believe it should absolutely be her choice.  Abstinence only is ridiculous and obviously does not work.  When will people realize that people with opinions that are so rigid and absolute that nothing else could be considered are usually the ones that always fail? Like a preachers kid turning out to be the worst kid in the school. Raging harmones don't care whether you are practicing abstinence only.  If she had been using contraceptives she would not be in this mess, but obviously Sarah probably never explained or allowed her this option.  This lack of education says a lot on how Sarah would be as a leader. I don't expect Sarah to be a perfect parent, nor do I think her daughter's pregnancy is any of my business.  However, now that she accepted the VP nomination, she must show that she is somewhat competent.  How messed up her family life is does show a hint of her incompetence. When a person steps into the role she has stepped into, the world does have a right to know the truth about her. And please do not be so hypocritical as to say that if the tables were turned and this was happening on the Democrat's side that Republicans wouldn't pursue it.  They would have made it their #1 issue. After all, aren't Republicans suppose to be the moral ones. So give me a break and quit being hypocrits.

Our daughter graduated from the University of Oklahoma as a National Merit Scholar. It was great because as two working parents with 2 other children we did not have money for a quality education without the scholarship. She was given the same out of state benefits as the football players. We will forever be in debt to OU for her degree. She passed away 5 years ago but every time I see the football field, I see her walking across to get her degree. Did she take a test to get it, maybe, but she had to have the grades to back it up and the determination and drive to achieve. Texas has again shown that they value brawn more than brain.
