This is no longer the McCain-Palin ticket. It's the Palin/POW ticket. She is the one who riles up the extremist right wing base, not him.

Her speech was petty and plastic so why couldn't he top it? A rank amateur could deliver a more presidential speech than Palin!

Funny how the comments from the Democrats here are pompus and insutling. You can sense their fear that a McCain/Palin ticket will be the "wildcard" that trumps their ace in the hole.

Another point to prove that Republicans are classier than Democrats....During the DNC you didn't hear of Republicans "protestors" being arrested or resorting to violence. Democrats can be such a hateful bunch of people...can't they...:o)

Obama won me over with his genuine faith in Christ and his profound honesty at the Saddleback church. McCain is a desperate opportunist. I have also identified myself as an Evangelical. To tell you the truth, I no longer know what that means. I'm a 62 year old conservative Christian, and I have learned to spot a phony. I may not agree with all of Obama's views, but I am not afraid to vote for a Christian who stumbles like me. I have seen no reality in McCain or his new, rather disturbing, running mate.

Obama went to a church for 20 years that preaches hate and hopelessness to black people. It is the equivilent of a muslim extremeist school. Slavery has been over for over a hundred years, yet they still preach that a black man doesn't have a chance (Bulls@@t). Many black people have done well as Judges, Lawyers, Doctors, Teachers and more. Stop Whining and get out and work hard (yes work hard) to get whgat you want and stop looking for a hand out. Until yesterday you could actually go to the church's own site to view some on the services....for some reason that part of the site is no longer available...More of the same! Hide the truth, don't take responsibility, smear your opponent with lies and innuendo and hope that no one does any research so that it sticks...oh, and call the media "left heavy" so that they stop asking questions!

Growing up in the bible belt I know a thing or two about "Conservative Christians"... Don't be naive....

If a White running mate was member of a church who believed in a "White Value System" and that same church supported someone who called African Americans racial names, this country would be OUTRAGED...

Yet it's OK for Obama's church to believe in a "black Value system"... well I hate to be blunt, but unless you believe in the same thing, you wouldn't be a member of a Church for almost 20 years and you wouldn't be OK with that church singing the praises of Louis Farrakhan (Google).

It's OK to be true to your roots... but if you really give a flip about our country (instead of wanting to send your cousin - oh sorry "Africa" - money - oh wait, OUR tax dollars - to implement his Shariah Law), go FIGHT for our country and SHOW us... So much for those great christian values, huh?

And to all those who thinks Palin's preachers sermons are outrageous:

I highly DOUBT any of the sermons from Palin's church could top Wrights sermon known as the "God damn America" Sermon... (and to the conservative christian... In January, Wright gave a sermon in which he talked about Barack Obama's life in the U.S. being like that of Jesus' struggle against the Romans. As a "Conservative christian"... that has to scare you to some extent).

So if it was found that the preacher of your church had been molesting children, that would make you a paedophile? It seems that your loyalties are more to personalities than to ideas. Governor Palin is absolutely unqualified to be second in command of the United States of America, and the idea of her being the President is literally a nightmare! She was snide, sarcastic, and disrespectful last night; her speech was merely a demonstration of her pit bull attack skills. Those skills do not a leader make!

McCain and company have milked the last drop out of his POW status. I understand that the experiences he was subjected to, endured bravely, and survived were terrible. That said, what will Senator McCain plan to do for our country? Will he protect a woman's right to choose, lead the fight for universal healthcare, affordable higher education? Will he act responsibly to bring our brave troops home from Iraq, and concentrate our efforts in Afghanistan and bring Osama to justice? Will he close the shameful prison in Cuba and enable the U.S. to regain its rightful place as the example of decency and freedom that it had previous to the barbaric current administrations rationalization of what constitutes "torture"?

McCain/Palin does not admit that our economy is suffering, with the American people sharing that condition. The Republican ticket has nothing new to offer the American people; their core beliefs are to maintain the status quo. GWB vetoed a measure that would have expanded health coverage for children across the nation because it cost too much: $30 billion over five years, I believe. He did this while we were tossing $10 billion per MONTH down the rat-hole that is the ill-advised war in Iraq.

I hope that there are fewer of your type of voter than I fear there are. This election is about the issues, not the color of a candidate's skin, their genetalia, or whether they were a "soccer mom" or a community organizer. The only important thing is who has the best plan for our country to undertake in the near future and beyond.

I'm sorry that you aren't wise enough to know that.

Well, that's wonderful that TV pundits can push you in a different direction. Do you not have the ability to filter out their comments and make informed, intelligent choices of your own? Listening and following their advice is akin to following Paris Hilton's examples of, well, just about anything. Those pundits *get paid* for making such comments. I'm sure if you had been watching FOX news they would have confirmed even more your decision to back Obama.

And more articulate than Obama? As mentioned before, you've obviously seen a set of different speeches than millions of other people. Now *his* acceptance speech was brilliant, inspiring, and full of hope.

If Palin is unqualified to be Vice Pesident, then Obama is surely Unqualified to be President.
It is the President that should have qualifications and Palin has mor than Obama.

Desperate to continue the insanity of the last 8 years and depending solely on the babblings of an over the hill war monger, they reach out for a rabid housewife who left the city she ran 20 million dollars in debt, has broken all kinds of laws and ethics by firing the public safety commissioner because he refused to fire a trooper for her personal reasons and who lied about her oposition to the bridge to nowhere and other pork barrel spending. Sounds like more of the Bush Cheney era at play once again. Someone else had to write her speech and the best she had to offer was a string of ravings with no substance. You obviously don't pay attention to the speeches of Obama. Campared to the best the Fascists (republicans) have to offer it all boils down to a continued downward spiral if they win again. Wake up and out the country not nthe wealthy first!!!!

Obama didn't write his own speeches. He has a speech writer. He couldn't speak without a teleprompter to save his life. He may have advanced degrees, but he doesn't have good judgement. Why would you vote "PRESENT" on tough issues unless you want to be a career politician who wants to always play it safe so as never to offend anyone. Obama is a sad excuse for a leader and will only bring high taxes and misery to this country. The DNC is always so negative - America is wrong, bad, in trouble, broken, down right mean, out of touch with Europe, etc., etc. They always see the glass half empty. This is not the reality and is not how most Americans feel. I am proud of my country. I am proud of the Constitution and I could care less what Europe thinks or anyone else for that matter. Why should we be beholden to the UN? They are a worthless beaurocratic organization that does more harm than good. If you want a more socialist, weak, angry, bitter country, then by all means vote for Obama. If you would care to notice, the country's economy only took a downturn since the Democrats have been in congress.

Check your facts. Obama sat in a hotel room for 24 hours and wrote that speech. He THEN contacted his speech writer, and they touched it up. That is of course only according to CNN... and they are no Fox News

Before scolding others about fact checking... you should check yours.

                    .......

Voting "present" means that yoiu agree to pass the bill, but are unhappy with some part of it or some particular language. Every vote has transcripts of the oral arguments that typically record what they had issue with. Oh by the way... Mcain (as you would expect) has many times more "present" votes than Obama.

Took a downturn since Dems in congress? Baloney.. Dems got a "minor" majority in January 2007. Most evetything they have put out has seen the veto pen by Bush. All else came from republican Majority Congress and Senate for the 7 years prior... So how is this mess their fault again? I have seen politicians blame "the other guys" before, but NEVER while they are still in and have been in for 8 years. THAT is Amazing...

We are ALL proud of our country!! This part kills me!!! If you love your country, never criticize the people in office? Never point out problems? Keep your mouth shut and go along? We DID that and let them get us into a completely useless war. Not only can we do this... We OWE IT to our country to do it. That is, according to the founding fathers and the constitution... but that hasn't been used much lately, even though it is brought up regularly.

Of course we shouldn't listen to anyone else... They may have other views... Heck, they might even have other GODs

I could go on to debunk this drivle, but you get the point. Do your own fact checking. Even when they or I give you supposed fact and it sounds reasonable... It is relatively easy these days. Google is really a god send for fact checking. Look at who is trying to scare you, and be afraid (of them). Watch who is dealing with actual issues and who spends the majority of time attacking the "other" candidate. Then YOU will know who to vote for..

I think her speech was patronizing and reprehensible. The thought that giving your time to the community has no responsibilities...come into the real world. I think every High school Senior could have given that speech. I only wish the words were hers, not Bush's henchmen! Pity the day we have to live through more of the same. It was actually a Republican strategist that first mentioned her looks in a round table discussion. I was actually quite offended at the slam she made regarding Community Organizing and I bet the people that Community Organizers help would be highly offended as well. I don't think that dedicating your time to help others should be a punch line.

Please explain what exactly a "Community Organizer" does? How do you get that job? I have never met a "Community Organizer" in my life and I have worked in public service for over 10 years. It sounds to me like a made-up title that sounds good on paper but has no real merit. Why doesn't Obama bring out some of the people in the so-called "Community" that he organized so that they can tell us exactly what he did for them?

Well here goes Condolezza number two; she can read from a telepromter and she managed a town of a few, in a state that thinks that they are better then the rest of the country. My dog Trouble could run that town that she governed. Despite the few people in alaska they had a buget larger than most urban areas in the rest of the country. Her environmental opinions suck, if the republicans win then the country deserves these people. The rich and greedy continue to run the country. Think people it's the economy, the war, and the lies.

I guess you haven't read that her teleprompter went out many times during her speech. She did not need a teleprompter, because she means what she says. It has nbeen reported today that her teleprompter was out of commission during her speech. She is the real deal, and will be the 1st Woman President of the United States, I'm sure.

DL - you obviously didn't listen to Obama's DNC acceptance speech. He outlined specific spending plans and tax cuts ($150 billion to alternative energy development in wind and solar power; tax cuts for all Americans making less than $250K per year; greater taxes levied on corporations). If that doesn't constitute the details of a plan then I'm not sure what does! What has McCain come up with?

They (democrats) can't tell you. Thye have no idea what kind of taxes will have to be levied to pay for the programs Barack is promising. He says "trust me" and like delusional children, they do. They don't read about his background and could not tell you of one important piece of legislation he has sponsored because he has not passed any. Even Hillary, Biden, and Bill said he does not have the experience to be President.

All they see is a "celebrity". He is going to save the world. He is the one they have been waiting on. They don't understand that the housing problem was caused by greedy buyers and greedy lenders. People buying more than they could afford and speculating. They don't understand that the reason Al-Queda has not hit us again is because President Bush would lay the hammer to them.

However, John McCain and Pitbull Palin get it. And, a lot of Americans get it so we have a chance of keeping a man who does not yet have the "substance" (he needs some experience in the Senate) out of the White House.

As an undecided voter it was very important for me to intently watch both the DNC & RNC. Here is my observation of Sara Palin's speech. She never addressed(Her/McCain/Republican Party), how they would solve or address the economy, war, taxes, health care, terrorism, alternative energy, Veterans issues, the Poor or Middle class...in fact nothing. There was no substance to her speech at all. She did throw some crafted shots at some folks, but other than saying John McCain is a war hero and an honorable man, her entire diatribe was flat and without substance. But after all, this is America and there are enough simpletons in this country that will say her speech was awesome and "The Party has a New Star"....whatever. Not impressed. Energy & Enthusiasm B+....Overall C-

The dems will solve all that with words and no action. The give-a-way programs will be a bone they throw to the loyal dem voters that will tax us all for years to come. No body can fix all of that in 1 term and I think Americans should stop looking for hand outs from the Government. Some Americans are like children, they want the Goverment to be Mommy and Daddy and take care of them. I remember when the dem slogan was "Ask not what your Country can do for you, but ask what you can do for your Country ". They have gone far away from that line of thought. Now they are Socialist in their promises to their voters and that appeal to people who have no dreams and hope. I have dreams and hope, McCain / Palin all the way.

The speech was previously written for the person McCain wanted as VP. Unfortunately he wasn't able to convince his own team it's a good idea, and lost. At the last minute they put up Sara to give him some type of publicity since he had hit rock bottom. They rewrite the speech for her so that we can get to know her? Imagine Lincoln's Gettysburg address being written by a team of writers and he only contributed in an ad lib, insert words here, type of way. That's all it is and it's pathetic. The whole system is pathetic. By the way I don't want to send any of my tax money to Georgia how do I go about not doing that? Please keep your dogs on a leash Republicans. He'd better deliver a better speech, one that is more presidential. Because Sarah Palin's message might have played well with right-wing extremists, but it did little to clarify what her professional experience has been exactly. Her speech left a lot out. What has she done again? Oh, yes, she was mayor of a town of a little over 5000 people and as Governor received more pork from the federal government per person than any other state (some reformer)....oh, yes, and she likes to censor what books the local library carries. If McCain can't top his vice-presidential candidate, then that ticket is in a sorry state indeed. Listen, Sarah Palin did nothing more than prove she is every bit as divisive and mean-spirited and Bush and Cheney combined. She does not corner the market on "mommyhood" and what that looks like in this country. I would be embarrassed to have her as my vice-president.

Looks like a bunch of Obama kool-aid drinkers are the only ones responding. MLK said we should judge a man by the content of character not the color of his skin. Looks like they have flipped as well. Obama is not qualified to run a gas station let alone this country. He refuses to answer the hard questions. He has flipped so many times he should try out for the Olympics not politics. He is only good at attacking people that have never caused him any harm. he is desperate now and it shows. I am a Black dem. but refuse to vote for someone who has no qualifications. Wake up America Obama is has done nothing for this country and the Rep. at least have two people running that like America. Unlike Obama's wife. How nice that she finally likes the USA. We should all be thankful to her now. Obama is a loser and the country will lose even bigger if this crackpot moves into the White house. Maybe Obama folks should listen closer to the issues and not the speeches and debates that Obama continues to avoid.

please tell me what qualifications don't he have? And what questions he didn't answer? And what did he flip loped? remember MCCAIN is against all the issues that he was for in 2000, and Palin also was for a lot of things when she was running for governer and then flipped so she could look like reformer. Get facts and then come back again.

I seriously doubt hammerhead is a black dem. Beyond that, as a white dem, I would be comfortable that a man of Obama's credentials is running the gas station down the street.

So I guess black Dem you are looking for a job taking care of Palin's 5 children and grandchild if she enters the White House. Bring your broom brotha-man and be sure to to keep your eyes to the ground. You have got to be kidding me. What was the point in even specifying that you are black if you want to make a point regarding equality? Educate yourself on the issues. By the way, what seat and row were you sitting in at the RNC. Diversity and RNC would have made it easy to point you out or were you watching the kids off stage.

It was a well crafted and well written speech, not completely written by Gov. Palin. She delivered it like a seasoned professional. She did well when it came to talking about her family and the job that she did in her hometown. She has a very compelling story and many women out there can relate to her. However, when it came to discussing major issues, you can tell she had some problems. Rachel Maddow stated that Palin phonetically pronounced some words she was not sure of. She is clearly in the back hip pocket of the McCain attack machine.

I disagreed with her assessment of the media, as was the theme last night, that she and her family is under attack! She placed herself in that national spotlight and granted her family should not be fair game, but her record and her background should.

Faux News made it their personal job to try to find out everything they could about Obama. They dug up everything they could about Obama's relationship with Bill Ayers, Jeremiah Wright and Tony Rezko. They talked about his father, his mother and even went to Kenya to find out about his Kenyan roots. Now, they are saying her background should be off limits? Come on!!!

As I have mentioned before, the work begins NOW!! The fight begins NOW!!! And as Bugs Bunny says, "Of course, you know, this means war!!!"

Number one, her story is no different them any other mother the problem is that she has no respect for her family to know that her daughter was pregnant and bring it to the forefront If that had been Obamas daughter we would try and find out if she had gotten pregnant at 16 so that they could get the guy for stature rape. America is still racist and there are two class of people the reps and the dems one for self the reps one for the people the demarcates. Ask America to take of the hoods.

They keep bringing up the war everytime you hear 9/11 (fear) and we want to win, terrorists want to hurt us (fear) they want to lose (fear). What I want to hear is exactly what does John McCain define winning as...Usurping the Iraqi government(nope), controlling the Iraqi government (maybe), having the Iraqi's say thank-you America (unlikely), what is it? Good comment woohoo.

Even though I've lived here 10 years -I can't yet vote in this country (Canadian), but I just gotta say Obama and Joe Biden scare the absolute crap out of me. Neither one of them have two clues to rub together as to how to lead a country. Obama clearly doesn't take a stand on issues and vote, nor does he have any REAL experience leading. Put him up against Vladmir Putin and see how THAT goes!!! I just can't imagine him dealing with international issues.Only recently did the Clintons do a complete 180 to endorse him from their obvious disdain for the guy! If I could have voted I would have put Hillary in any day before this moron. IS EVERYONE ON HERE BLIND???? What does Obama offer besides the fact that he can raise a gazillion dollars from his multitude of celebrity/corporate friends. Just HOW MANY promises DID HE make to corporate America to foot his enormous campaign drive!!! Geez folks, maybe Oprah can finance the deficit with her billions when he gets in and screws us all over! Why do you think I moved here from Canada!!! WAKE UP!

Only if he mentions that he was tortured in Vietnam. I know that earlier he promised not to run on that story and it watching closely, I don't think I heard anyone bring that up. Also someone should show an image of NY and mention 911. and the fact that democrats will be out to take away their guns and bibles.

Reps are only for the rich? .... hmmm... and Obama doesn't rub noses with Opra or half the other celebs in hollywood? Please... He just appeals to a different Kind of rich.

Ok how is this for you. Republicans only care about the wealthy, which is what I believe 4everamerica was trying to convey. The rich in Hollywood are actors, they do not control the wealth of America. Wealth is the means of production. What was heard tonight was more free trade agreements that send American jobs oversees, and some other Bush points of giving the Wealthy corporation owners tax breaks and corporate welfare.

Even with the same speechwriters, McCain's delivery cannot but make his speech seem leaden.

After Palin's speech (written for her) McCain's speech will also be immature, sarcastic and inflammatory. How can anyone, in good conscience, take a ticket with McCain and Palin seriously? They will be like Bush and his buddies, cut from the same clothe, saying one thing and doing another.

Obama's speech was written for him as well so I don't know what you meant to accomplish with that silly statement.

McCain/Palin say they are all about change but then her speech is written by a Bush speech writer??? Seems like business as usual to me in the Republican party!

That is correct. Take the L out of Palin and you have McCain and Pain! Just what both of them will be in the White House if (impossibly) elected.

This woman has to be watched and audited very carefully as she has lied from the start, " I stopped the bridge to nowhere", and has shown a propensity to abuse her powers since she was a mayor. This woman is bad news to a civilized country.

Well, Donnygull, the "bridge to nowhere" has been stopped. So if Palin lied about stopping it, please tell who did stop it?

She wanted it until Alaska needed to kick in some Alaska money, as the federal earmark wasn't enough to cover the bill. Then she "decided" against it! She did however keep the Federal money. She "said" they "sent it back. They didn't. She lied!!!!

                                          So now you know....

Palin was on record supporting the Bridge to Nowhere when the earmark was requested (this is when we Alaskans had congressmen with clout at the time). There was insufficient funds to complete the bridge which is why it was not built. It was only when McMain (now her running mate) and the public media made a joke of it did Palin decide she was against it. The money used for other road projects up here in Alaska.

Here are some quotes from paper up here.

                                          Ketchikan Daily News:

"People across the nation struggle with the idea of building a bridge because they've been under these misperceptions about the bridge and the purpose,' said Palin, who described the link as the Ketchikan area's potential for expansion and growth.

Palin said Alaska's congressional delegation worked hard to obtain funding for the bridge and that she 'would not stand in the way of the progress toward that bridge'. 8-8-06

'We need to come to the defense of Southeast Alaska when proposals are on the table like the bridge and not allow the spinmeisters to turn this project or any other into something that's so negative,' Palin said." 9-28-06

After federal funding had been slashed, Palin was asked if she was still in support of funding the project. She said: "Yes. I would like to see Alaska's infrastructure projects built sooner rather than later. The window is now–while our congressional delegation is in a strong position to assist."
