Palin does not support womens issues, she just happens to be a woman. The media is making this a fight between stay-at-home vs working mom
What have the Rebublicans done in the last eight years?? Do we want four more of that??
What have the democrats in congress done, Do you know the president does not set our taxes or spend our money, it is congress. Most liberals are too stupid to understand that.
Mr. McCain has been in Washington 1/4 century. Obviously, he is a part of that crowd. What makes you think he is going to push for change now?
HA.. Invading a country under some BS pretense, isn't Liberated million's of Iraqis. It's wasting Americans taxes, lying to Americans; to get a good performance rating.
My taxes have been kept low enough to be able to support my family working for a small company that doesn't pay extremely well. I know that if a Democrat is elected we might as well get used to the fact that your pay check will go down!
Republicans kept us safe? Didn't 9/11 happen when they had the presidency and a majority in congress?
You need to check the actual facts on the tax proposals for both McCain and Obama.
If you make less than $250,000 you will see a bigger decrease with Obama than McCain.
If you make more than $250,000 you will see a bigger decrease with McCain. Several sources are available to you. CNN did a brief "Keeping them honest" section on their reports that showed the actual figures for this.
What have the Republican's done, how about drop our reputation with the world. When the Democrats left the White House we were on friendly terms with Russia, we were regarded as the world's police force saving countries from ethnic cleansing, and had a booming economy. When the Republicans came into play we at first began invading countries for the right reasons, but at the wrong time causing the world to look at us as wild cowboys just looking for a fight, then we began seeing a slump in the economy with food and oil prices going up and automotive exports going down, and to top it all of we have now regressed back our relations with Russia to a point that some analysts are saying a new Cold War between the West and East might begin.
I remember leaving Highschool with the feelings of, "Wow, what a great nation we live in. We are friendly, fiscally responsibly, and protectors of the world." Now eight years later I feel that the US is, "bullying, in a vast economic decline, and hated by the world."
But that's just my 2 cents on the matter.
Kakhipants,
Are you serious? We are more unsafe now that we were before 9-11. The world hates us for attacking a nation THAT DID NOT ATTACK US!! Hello? That is why Obama had such a warm response this summer in Europe. I didn't hear anyone chanting McCain's name, ever! Maybe with Obama we can gain back our espect with the world, and instead of working against us, they will once again work with us. Wake up! .
khakipants, you must be delusional. Has Osama bin Laden been caught? Has Taliban been disbanded. NO! We have just kept them busy but they are coming back. Iraq was an unjust war! We should not have been in Iraq in the first place, if we hadn't been there, maybe we would have caught Osama bin Laden by now because our military would have been able to concentrate on the task at hand. Wake up America!!!!!
Uhm...Ian....you seem to be AGREEING with Kahki, why say he or she is delusional??
give me a break- NO one was complaining on 9/11/2001- everyone was ready to fight. I must say, since NOTHING is a secret in this world, I would think that any weapons of mass destruction that were out there, were disposed of before they could be found, I am pretty sure it was announced we would be looking for them, and I sure as hell wouldn't have been caught with them if I were at war with us. Come on people. I am tired of the Bush bashing, we went to war to protect our way of life and guess what, he did that. He has protected us. Are your lives all so terrible and have they changed so dramatically in the past 10 years? I know mine hasn't. I still have a good job, a home and food on the table. Unless you are living in a box shut up. Unless you have lost your job-shut up. My guess, you are all typing on your computers from your job or your home, so the state of the economy hasn't REALLY affected you PERSONALLY so shut up. Stick to talking about issues. Stick to talking about politics- ON BOTH SIDES. Stop bashing people YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW- and to the composer of the message regarding Palin's family being dysfunctional. WHO'S FAMILY IS PERFECT???????????????????????????????? geniuses. go back to work and if you don't have a job go get one, I am sick of paying taxes for you to sit on your ass.
Repulicans clean up a lot of crap that "whats' the symbol for Democrats" oh yeah - jack asses made over the last years
Better than a dangerous man that will lead us down the same road as Hitler led the Germans or Castro led the Cubans.
All Obama is is a good talker, like a TV preacher. He can read a teleprompter but he has no interest in the American people, he just wants to be in power, and he doesn't give a damn about us. He wants to rule the world. Just another good talker, that will lead people down the road to ruin.
When are all the "Obama Followers" going to realize he doesn't care about America at all, he only says what he know you want to hear...he is dangerous.
???????? Annette jack asses?????? who's crap?????? hmmmmmmmm do believe its the Republicans crap that needs cleaned up right? And McCain voted 90% of the time that caused all the crap we are dealing with now and the 90% came from McCains own lips.
plus didn,t McCain use the lipstick Fraze to Hillary and i believe so did Mr Chaney.
What have the Democrats done for the past eight years? They tried to cut funding for our troops, prevent the surge (which by the way was a success!!), tried to insinuate that 9-11 was an "inside" job, and since Nancy Pelosi/democrats have taken over Congress the price of gas has ALMOST DOUBLED!!!
Yes I do, especially if it keeps an under qualified Marxist out of office. He has no plan except that he will somehow redistribute wealth. Figure it out. You'll go to work to pay for every lazy underachiever in this country. He's already said he'll raise taxes, that's what I want, to work 60 hours a week so that the lifetime welfare recipient down the road can live on the same level I do. A lively hood is not a gift or a right just because you live in the USA. You actually have to work for it! If you want to be equal (and no I don't care if your white, black, purple or orange) you have to earn it. That's the problem with most people in this country, they believe they are entitled. Well you're not. Look at some world history, his plan doesn't work, never has, never will. I guess the only good side if Obama gets in office is that eventually I'll quit my job and let everyone else take care of me. Why work when I can live as good as everyone else and have my days to do what I want.
Sarah Palin is the perfect choice for McCain's VP and shows again that anyone can be VP or Pres. of the US, if you have the determination. What has Biden done anyway? Nothing. And yes, I'll take 4 more years of Republican politics! That is how bad I feel about Democrats!
Hello Dalton, the Civil War called and they need recruits for the North! Where the hell did you come from? This is not about Race!
Joe Jarolin
Made Obama a multimillionare for one.
"I am tired of the Bush bashing, we went to war to protect our way of life and guess what, he did that. He has protected us."
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Going to war in Iraq had NOTHING to do with 9/11. It had EVERYTHING to do with Big Oil and the Military/Industrial complex of America. Get a clue. Where do you think all that money going out of our Treasury is going?
Barbara.... NO way. If you mean The GOP is delusional. Oh, most definitely
a woman who thinks sarah palin rocks the last 8 years have been run buy people like you who love war and killing your great ole party got us into a false war with lie after lie its not the dem's dont want to take care of the troops they want them out of harms way I cant believe all is on your minds is war kill kill kill and your pro life hmmmmmmm.
and dalton yes this country is ready for a black pres. because he cant be any worse than what we have had for the last 8 years and if BUSH MCJR GETS IN WE WILL END UP LIKE A 3RD WORLD COUNTRY.
"this country is not ready for a black president nor will it ever be!!! "
Dalton your a idiot! Enough said on that point!
***************************************************************************
A Woman who thinks Sarah Palin Rocks!!
How many of your son's did you send to their death to "protect our freedom" ? And how many daughter's are you raising to be baby machines Just curious?
And if the surge was so damn successful why are we still there? Oh ya and the gas prices are all the fault of the Dems! Speaking of delusional. ***************************************************************************
Mike "My taxes have been kept low enough to be able to support my family working for a small company that doesn't pay extremely well. I know that if a Democrat is elected we might as well get used to the fact that your pay check will go down! "
What rock did you climb out from under? Your taxes are lower than before? Hm that's interesting! And if things are so great, why don't you just take your happy butt to A BIGGER company that will pay better and be all that much richer. Heck then you might be able to buy your family some shoes too! Oh ya! That's right. There aren't any jobs to be had!
...
" dalton-519491:this country is not ready for a black president nor will it ever be!!! "
To Dalton's credit, The idea that America will never be ready for a black president is an idea shared by many people.
It's what Hillary touched on during her run, when she suggested that she could win the votes of the people Democrats need in order to win. Support for Dalton's argument is given by the large percentage of people who admitted that race was a factor for them, and the majority of those people did not vote for Obama.
His comment is supported by the constant comments in the media about "Why can't Obama close the deal?" "This is a Democrat's year, why is this race so close?" comments like "elitist" "arrogant" are attributed to him, this young man who grew up in a single parent home, and far from rich, who after having an opportunity to become rich quick, went to the poor neighborhoods to give back, making little to nothing, elitist!?! They are calling him (uppity) a word in America's past that would be ascribed to someone likely to be lynched or find a cross burning in their yard in their near future.
His argument is shown in the media's constant preparedness to discuss the amount of sexism Palin may be exposed to, yet the possible effects on the race due to the fact that Obama is black is rarely mentioned. The mere fact that not only is it not acknowledged as a possible issue, but just the uncomfortable feelings people feel about discussing it, shows the severity of the problem.
There are people who criticize and accuse Obama supporters for supporting Obama "just because he's black" when they easily forget there have been at least two other black candidates who have run for the nomination and received very little support from anyone.
The same people that say this are the ones who say "Well, with Palin they don't have to feel guilty about not voting for history" as though Obama's large support was due to feelings of guilt.
Not to say some don't feel guilty, there are those out there. They are the ones who supported Hillary and are going for McCain, they are the undecideds who usually vote Democratic but "there's just something about Obama" that makes them uncomfortable. And you know what, they should feel guilty. If you're gonna vote against Obama though he matches with the issues that matter to you, but "something" makes you want to stay home or vote McCain you should not only feel guilty, but ashamed.
So while I would love to disagree with Dalton's statement, there is so much evidence that he is probably right. There are alot of us, especially the youngest of us, who really are just about past race as being any issue, and it's beautiful. But there are also some, and I fear too many, people who think having a black president is a "scary" idea. And though that is sad, and maybe hard to believe for some of us, I think it may cost Obama the White House this election... But that won't stop me from supporting him or volunteering b/c I don't want the country and our media to have any excuses or explanations to give when he loses. Just the truth "this country is not ready for a black president nor will it ever be!!!"
Sad...but possible true. However, the country wasn't ready to end slavery, women voting, equal right for African Americans; I may have only been alive to witness one of those obstacles. But make that two come November 4th. Because I believe there is just enough of us who aren't voting by looking at just color
Ian 1169 asked what have the Republicans done in the past eight years. I tell you they have done more for this country than the Democrats have during their 40 year reign of failed liberalism prior to the conservative reforms of the 1990's. That is why we had such a conservative revolution in the 1990's. Do not get me wrong. There is not much difference between the Democrats and the Republicans. Both parties stand in Washington DC saying, "Give me your money!"
Let me see if I remember the greatest president this country as ever seen, oh yeah Republican President Ronald Reagan.
To reply to Varjon's snide comment about graduating from high school in the greatest country in the world and comparing it to being in a country that no one respects any more, when President Reagan took office Iran tucked its tail and ran releasing the hostages they had for so long during Democratic President Jimmy Carter's term in office. When the USS Cole was bombed the Democratic President Clinton did nothing to keep our respect in the world's eyes. The greatest country in the world was the greatest country in the world as a direct result of the policies and decisions of the Republican President Ronald Reagan.
Lets see now Ian 1169, The Republican Presidents have done more to strengthen the United States in the past 30 year than have the Democratic Presidents. Oh yeah I remember very well what Democratic President Clinton did to strengthen the United States, he reduced our military might by how much? Oh yeah! I remember at least sixty military installations and a troop reduction like this country has never seen before.
Military?? The United States regardless of the president will always be a military power. (border line bully) But to tell the truth, I have no problem with that. However, when a president use that power, in an attempt to boost his rating, we should pay attention.
Carter: ok, the hostages were released, but you really believe Iran tucked it's tail, or did they receive some under hand deal. If you hand the upper hand with nothing to lose, why show your hand. And don't think I forgot he was dishonest president who had to resign.
Cliton: oh please. He may have gotten a little saliva on his you know what; but if I'm wrong haven't we caught the fools that did that bombing?
Reagan: likable actor, but due to his cut backs to feed the military, caused an enormous homeless crises in my city. Remember Iran Contra???
Bush: who you forgot to mention ( I understand why, Don't worry I feel your pain) He is wasting our taxes just like the Bourbon or Whiskey he spills every night.
McBush: A military man that sings Bomb bomb Iran. Has no problem staying in Iraq for too many years, Should I continue.
No matter Who's president of this Great country, Our military will be one not to F. with. No matter the size of it.
My Bad: Nixon not Carter. A little before my time. Got my President all mix up.
Yes we do want 4 more years with the Republican Party.
Mccain is also a Liar! take a look at utube 'Did Mccain Lie About His P.O.W Story....I think its now very obviuos that half of Americans are Peodaphiles which is rather fitting then that the Palins also like to keep 'IT' in the Family.
If Mccains elcted i hope America fails in every way.(cause you desrve to fail for even considering Mccain and Palin)
It amazes me how little the American people, especially those on the left, understand how the constitutional powers of government work. First you can't blame Bush for soaring gas prices and the downward trend of the economy which by the began not long after the Democrats took over Congress nearly two years ago. Go back and check when gas prices began rising, when the mortgage industry began to crumble, when unemployment started rising and now the lastest economic crisis with investment firms. All of this began about 6 months after the Democrats siezed control of the House and Senate. Bottom line, only the Democratic Congress has the power to do anything about domestic policy, ie, regulation of banks, mortgage companies, creation of jobs, etc. and yet that have not passed one piece of legistlation that could have warded off some of the problems or to help American workers since taking control two years ago. CHECK THE FACTS. I am a Democrat and am completely disgusted with my party. READ THE CONSTITUTION, Congress has 80% control of domestic policy giving the president and supreme court justices sharing 20%. The President controls 80% of foriegn policy and the military. Its time that people stop listening to an obvious bias media and start researching and checking the facts for themselves. That is the only way Americans are going to know what the REAL truth is.
In fact, independent groups such as the Tax Policy Center have concluded that four out of five U.S. households would receive tax cuts under Obama's proposals.
It's so funny how those on the right like to blame everything on the Democratic congress who took the house & senate from the Repubes almost 2 years ago, yet Bush, as president, has nothing to do with the current state our country is in because he's only been in office for 8 years!!!
What have your Democratic Congressmen done in the last 2 years?????
Hello? Who was in control of the house and the senate that PASSED all the things you are blaming Bush for? Yeah, all you Democrates conviently forget that for a President to get anything passed he has to send it to the capitol where the Congress and the Senate have to vote on if the Presidents proposal will become reality.
The Congress (the house) and the Senate have been in control of the democrates! THAT MEANS YOUR PARTY AGREED AND SIGNED THE STUFF INTO LAW! This means blame your own party!
Learn how a presidential wish becomes law..... You just may switch your vote on 11/4.
Democrats; Republicans; Independents. It's time for everyone to be treated equal regardless of race or gender. Oh damn: my bad; it's only the 21st century. We have to wait at least 2 more centuries.
Sad ... but so true.
Maybe after this election; if we vote for the right candidate, it may speed things up.
I agree everyone should be treated as equals, and held to the same standards no matter race nor gender. This presidential race seems to bring out the hypocrisy in many people.
Repubs used to be against women who have a lot of kids and use the taxpayer's money to pay for them, "welfare moms" and such. But Ms. Palin and her 5 kids are on the scene and it's revealed that she's been spending the taxpayer's money to pay for her and her family to stay in her own home, and thousands of dollars in flights for a 7 year old, well, that's acceptable. Not only that but the fact that she has 5 kids is a talking point, a qualification, a testimony to her faith and pro-life values! Well, I know a few girls from the hood & trailer parks, who they might be interested in as well!
There was a time, a few weeks ago, when every Repub said the Democrats were making the oil companies out to be the enemies when they were doing the most work. They'd say taxing the oil companies would solve no problems. Now they use the fact that Palin taxed the oil company's windfall profits and gave it to the people as a talking point.
Another example of the recent hypocrisy is how the people on the right say that Biden has to treat Palin gently so he won't appear to attack her, the people on the right calling her a babe, good looking, and hot is a compliment, but people on the left are trying to demean her. These sexist arguments are full of hypocrisy, not only did people say ignorant and sexist things about Hillary and she was expected to ignore it, even Palin suggested whining about it hurt the cause of women. Barack Obama 2-3 times pointed out the fact that he's black, and suggests that will be a not so subtle talking point the republicans will use against him. McCain's camp accused him of playing the race card, thus the question of whether or not Obama is playing the race card is discussed on the news for at least a week or more.
The Repubs use the sexism charges to keep even the media from asking anything about her w/out fear and caution, yet when Obama accuses McCain's camp of using the gender card it's ignored, and instead the analysis of just how sexist is this nation becomes the topic of discussion.
Anyone, Democrat or Republican attempting to make the argument that Palin being a mom makes her less acceptable to be vice-president is silly. Except for the fact that her teen daughter is pregnant, and she has a son with disabilities who will require more attention, the fact that she's a mom is no reason for her not to seek a spot as a vice-president. The fact that she has no credentials and little to no knowledge of domestic/foreign affairs, is.
Palin is the best thing to happen in politics in a long time. Women work and have families and have been doing it for decades. Palin is a capable person. She can work and parent.
No so fast...Ross! In my estimation...Palin is failing as a parent! Her teenage daughter is pregnant which probably wouldn't have happened had she or her husband been actively involved in the childs life. And what kind of life is the 5 month old going to have without the mother? Working "sometimes" is a necessity...I understand that but one doesn't "climb the ladder" while child rearing...they just try to maintain because ultimately their children come first. Think about it, "5" children and you're going to take on the 2nd highest job in the NATION???? Poor judgment here as well as poor judgment in the past. If you didn't want to raise these children then why on earth did you have them? Oh, it's ok to say your "pro life" but does it mean ANYTHING if you're not going to be around to raise your kids??? SHAMEFUL!
Ross, it's not really about whether she can work and raise a family at the same time. If in some horrible scenario she becomes VP, she'll have all the help and support she needs. It's about what she will do to the families of other working women as a Republican Vice President. I think we have had 8 years to see what happens to low income and middle income families and the pay of working women.
Teenagers will get pregnant working mom or not. Palin and her husband are actively involved in the raising of their children. Palin's judgement or lack thereof has nothing to do with her daughter being pregnant. When I was a kid I did things my parents would have killed me for. I think many kids or teenagers have done the same. Parents can not police their children in this day and age 24/7. Palin is a model of parenting. Support your family no matter the problems. All families have problems and are disfuntional to a degree. None are perfect no matter what they would have you believe. This is what we all need to realize. None of us are perfect and we all make mistakes. Go Sarah!
You better believe that she's slacking somewhere. Don't ever believe that one person can do it all. Just because her children "appear" to be fine, you really don't know what's going on behind closed doors. Republicans are some of the biggest fakers. They're all perfect until they're exposed for doing something--dare I say it--sinful. Then they put on their religious hats and go to scriptures about forgiveness or anything that suits their situation. They're the reason this country is a mess right now. So moral, so righteous, so disconnected and stupid!
Political...... Do you mean sinful as in all the affairs that Clinton had? Oh yes..... he was certainly moral.
glrogers: You're one to talk. Your closet has no bones..huh. Teenagers are going to make mistakes. Do you blame all your teen mistakes on your parents?
Clinton only screwed willing subjects. Bush, Cheney and McSame have screwed the entire nation, as well as, the world. I guess Clinton was as moral as McSame was while he was having all his affairs on his first wife.
LOL..... I blame no one for any mistakes I made. My point was that NO ONE is pure. The first stones on this subject were cast by Political. But Clinton was no teenager when he screwed those "willing" subjects. He was leading our country, and held in highest regard, to set an example. Getting screwed by politicians is nothing new. It didn't start in the last 8 years the way a lot of you seem to think, or would like everyone else to think.
True, teenagers do make mistakes, no matter how involved a parent is in their life. But to hear a lot of you on here, it is Palins fault that her 17 year old daughter is pregnant.
The system in the US is so corrupt from years of politicians doing what THEY want, instead of what the people want, that it will make little difference who is elected. After all, Congress has the final vote in most things, and since it is run by majority of Democrats, you can thank them for the sad state of the nation.
She has obviously failed with her teenage pregnant, unwed daughter. Should have taught her birth control.
Maybe she did teach her about birth control, and the 17 yr old daughter chose not to listen as so many teens do. Or perhaps the birth control didn't work, as happens. Maybe we should tie her to a stake and burn her for what she left happen. Maybe we should also make sure there are enough stakes to get rid of all those terrible parents that have unwed pregnant teen daughters.
Yes, she is a capable person but her judgments are open to question. She has an infant who will need special care, a teenage daughter with a stressful situation to be dealt with, a son in the military, and two other daughters who need her support. She is young enough to have used the coming years to be a good mother, a Governor and possibly higher for her state, build her resume, and then make a run at higher office. As it is, she is paying little or no attention to her family, is exposing them to the highest of scrutiny, and making poor judgments all along the way. Her candidacy is a joke!! I predict that there will be a great deal of info arriving for our scrutiny in the coming weeks. Obama-Biden is the only sane choice for America.
Define sane?? I think someone else needs to build a resume, besides Palin. Afterall, she is only running for Vice President.
Palin is the worst example of pandering to the women's vote. She does not support issues that are important to women, i.e., equal pay for equal work or right to choose. She makes a big deal out of the fact that she and her husband chose to keep a baby that they knew had Down Syndrome and that her daughter is choosing to keep her baby. She is neglecting to mention a salient point . . she chose! Good for her. This country should never get back to the days when those are not choices! She would have every woman, regardless of the circumstances, carry every pregnancy to term. Women would have babies with special needs that they either cannot or will not meet and this is where abuse happens. She would have victims of rape or incest carry the child of their attacker to term without regard for the emotional damage that would do. She is entitled to make choices for herself, and so is her daughter. She is not entitled to make those choices for the rest of the women in America. Keep the Bible where it belongs . . in the night stand in hotel rooms. Just sayin'
glrogers - "Maybe she did teach her about birth control, and the 17 yr old daughter chose not to listen as so many teens do. Or perhaps the birth control didn't work, as happens."
This shows that you don't know about Palin! She PREACHES ABSTINENCE ONLY!!! Do you know what that means??? Apparently NOT!!! This proves that it does not work!!!
She is against all women's rights that have been instituted for years!!
She is not a "working mother" she has people to take care of the kids!!!!!
She is a gun-toting, pro-lifer, bible-thumping, big-oil hugging redneck without experience that does NOT belong in the White House!!!!
Also, they are lying when they keep saying that Obama will raise your taxes. They are neglecting to finish the sentence. Obama will raise your taxes IF you make more than $227,000 a year!!!! Any less and you will get a LARGER tax break than McBush will give you!!!!
InformedAmerican........ I was responding to AngieM when she said "Should have taught her birth control." What is the best form of birth control Informed? Abstinence.
So Informed, if she taught her daughter about this form of birth control, and all others, and the daughter chose not to listen, then it is the mothers fault? Abstinence does work, if it is practiced. All the shouting.... multiple exclamation points and question marks.... maybe you need to take a deep breath and just try to be calm for a minute. My 29 yr old daughter takes my grand daughter to daycare each day while she goes to her job. She puts in on the average, 9 hours a day, and then picks up her 3 yr old daughter and goes home. Are you going to tell her she is not a working mother?
No, it sounds like you are being hateful... when you are pointing your finger three will always point back. This election is so superficial, when can we get back to policies. We are talking about Palin way too much. Maybe it should be the Palin/McCain ticket... How many women have 5 kids or more and work, give me a break... this is not impressive, it is daily life people.
glrogers - "So Informed, if she taught her daughter about this form of birth control, and all others, and the daughter chose not to listen, then it is the mothers fault?"
She didn't teach her daughter "birth control" she told her to not have sex until she is married. Now she will be married in a shotgun wedding! It's quite a bit different. When someone spews out abstinence ONLY, they don't teach kids about any type of birth control! What part of this don't you understand?
I don't care if the woman works or not, just as long as she doesn't become the vice president of our country. She is a religious zealot and would be much more suited to starting her own little cult than serving as vice president.
How can a responsible parent take on the job of VP with a brand new special needs infant especially during his first formative years? How can she spend the time he needs especiallly in the event that Mr. McCain suffers a heart attack or something worse? This is something to think about.
No need to blame her totally for her daughters pregnancy but I still don't want that ticket to win
"NOBAMA" in my White House!! I want John McCain and Sarah Palin whom have expierience!!
She's a total hypocrite, and McSame only put her on the ticket to appeal to women voters. I really hope they're smart enough to see right through her smokescreen. She also the ultimate proof, that teaching abstinence until marriage doesn't work. Not much of a role model at all!
Palin is giving men an excuse that working Mom's can do it all. We have a hard time juggling our jobs and family. I know because I have had to do it and if you are a single parent the task is monumental. Even with a stay at home Dad, it is hard on Mom's because Mother's are natural at nurturing their children because they carried them for 9 months. I have been fired from jobs because of having sick kids and then developing the illness my kids have passed on to me.
Amen to that Ross and whomever is bashing Palin on her parenting skills, I hope you will never eat your words. Her daughter is 17 and to mention, engaged. And you are telling me that every un-wed girl has horrible parents because they made a bad choice and that all the "Hollywood People" who have been thru the same situation that it's okay, it's normal and expected of them. What about Obama's mamma? She was 17 and unwed when she had him, but his mamma isn't running for office you are saying, well neither is Palin's daughter. GET OVER IT
OMG Kim-322404!! Say you didnot post the remark Palin is failing as a parent because her teenage daughter is pregnant which probably wouldn't have happened had she or her husband been actively involved in the childs life. That means ALL them millions of parents out there who have pregnant unwed teenage daughters are failures as parents!!!
That means, according to your statement, ALL them million of parents out there who have teenage daughter's that are in gangs, are doing/buying/selling drugs, having sex and popping out 2-3-4 babys before they are 18 (not knowing who's the daddy) are doing a better job raising their daughter's.
Sorry but I rather have my 17 year old daughter come and tell me she is pregnant than find my 12-13-14 year old daughter come home pregnant or using her body to obtain drugs and then by the age of 17 have 2 or 3 kids with different daddies.
Looks like Kim-322404 would have preferred Sarah Palin aborted her babies. The left is FURIOUS that an intelligent working woman is running for the VP slot, has five children, and has been very successful as the Governor of Alaska. Thr biggest upset to them, however, is the fact that she is PRO LIFE and NOT Pro ABORTION. The democrats are such hyprocrits--they ONLY want women in positions of power that are LIBERALS. They are not inclusive at all!! Such HATE and VITRIOLE!!! As I have said before, Sarah Palin ROCKS!!
You are a fool if you think that she'll be raising her kids IF she ever gets the chance to get into the White House. God help us if she does!! She'll be lucky to kiss her kids goodnight before they go to bed & the little one will be left to fend for himself. Poor kids. Bad choice on her part. With what she's stated she stands for already, I feel like I'm watching the movie Footlose all over again. Lame, lame, lame.
Ok - Palin's daughter may be pregnant, but so what how many other teen age parents are out there. If you want to say that how do we not know that Obama's daughters won't end up pregnant when they get older and that would happen if he was to ever make it into office (praying that won't happen!). So are you going to bad mouth him when that happens.
Palin is awesome the way that she supports and loves ALL her children. We have no right to critize her or her daughter when anyone one of us know a teenage parent!
I don't believe any woman is "Pro Abortion" ... most are Pro Choice, having options and choices about when and how to have a child. She *chose* to give birth to a child she knew would be handicapped, her daughter *chose* to have a child at 17. Apparently preaching abstinence does not work. I don't see much in her record in Alaska to call her "very successful" in two years as governor. And they try to say Obama is inexperienced?? God help us if McCain should die in office (which is likely, given his age and the stress of the job) I think she was chosen more for her age and gender than her record and position on the real issues facing this country. Anyone else notice that abortion, and gun control, and gay marriage become "issues" once every 4 years?
glrogers -- All of you Republicans make me laugh so hard ... I know this is hard for you but for once in your life you need to take those rose-colored glasses off and look at the world as it truly is. It is NOT the Democrats that has caused gas to skyrocket, the economy to tank, or the banks to fail, it is all the deregulation that the Republicans have done for the last 8 years. The Republicans may not be "in the majority" but the Democrats don't have a big enough majority to pass ANY legislation on their own. Republicans have implemented 77 filibusters just this term...a record over the last term of 58 filibusters last year. That total does not include the threat of a filibuster either. And the few times that Democrats actually did get a bill passed, the idiot-in-chief vetoes it.
So please, take responsibility for your actions ... it is NOT the Democrats that aren't doing the people's business, its the Republicans doing the lobbists and special interests business. If I remember right, according to George everything that George screwed up in his appointed first term was Clinton's fault. And also according to George, he hasn't made one mistake in the 8 years he has been in office.
Doesn't anybody read anymore?
glrogers -- All of you Republicans make me laugh so hard
As I mentioned in another post, I'm not a Republican, I'm registered as Independent. Although a year ago I was registered as a Democrat.
And one of the reasons I changed my party was because of the Clintons...... both of them.
It seems as most of you are out of touch on alot of things. The fact that Sarah Palin's daughter is pregnant has no standing on her personal character or her bid for vp. Her daughter is very capable of making her own decisions. She made her bed and now she will lie in it. That's as far as my defense for Sarah Palin goes. She represents nothing except the standard white protestant american view. Oh and forget political hypocrisy, how about religious hypocrisy! Since when is it ok to be a gun-toter and bible thumper? That's an oxymoron if I ever heard one. It is ok to be pro-life but i wish she would extend that view to the children and babies that are already here on earth that are malnourished neglected and abused! What about their life. I have served in Iraq and the most heartbreaking thing i have seen are the impovershed children there who are innocent in all this turmoil over oil. How bout we try saving them first! The beautiful thing about our country is choice. Sarah PAlin is trying to take that away from all americans but consistently lying and manipulating the truth. Speaking of race, the republicans have not reached out to any minority or ethinic group other than women and latinos, which by the way was a half assed job. They have not said anything about the state of urban america, which is a major problem in america. NO Palin does not identify with me or my family which consisted of mostly single working mothers pushing their kids through underfunded public schools and living in urban areas rich in violence and short on peace. what will she do to change that? what will McCain do to help us regular folk out? And for those out there who wanna credit Bush and the Republicans for the surge here's some info for you. The surge is not the only thing contributing to the success. The iraqi people's willingness to co operate is what is making the surge a success. Americans are quick to co-sign for something they know nothing about. Do your research. Stop eating everything you are being fed. Alot of it, especially concerning the war is just cooked up horse crap.
McCain-Palin: 15th Century Solutions for the 21st Century
I agree that Palin has done a lot for politics in that she's exposed how hypocritical those high-minded righties are. She's plenty capable I'm sure. One thing I know she isn't capable of is effectively running the United States of America. If she left a town of 9000, 25 million in debt... do i have to finish that sentence...
Sure she's a great speaker, cute, likable, common, she has a story common to most of us, but personally when I think of P/VP I'm not thinking my next door neighbor, or the cashier at the Wal-mart, or a mayor of an extremely small town, consisting of a small budget, and 53 employees, recently turned governor. I think all of those people are necessary to keep our country moving, we all do our part, but I don't think Palin's "part" should have anything to do with the White House.
Senator McCain could have chosen someone, even a female who could have added some seriousness to his campaign that until now looks to me more like a bad joke. He completed this joke by choosing someone who so offends everything the country needs right now. We must move upwards and forwards, onwards. Mrs. Palin and John Maccain represents a push back to the dark ages, to the age of no wisdom but brutality and ignorance. In contrast Senator Obama and Senator Biden stand for future, for balance, for reasoning. Our country is becoming hursh ill mannered. We are referred to as ignorant people by most citizens of the planet. These folks are like post cards of ignorance. The image of Palin killing animals and Maccain calling for eternal wars is not what we need at this time. Not this time.
Enough!
No one wants war but when your country is threatened you have to defend yourself. Iran will not invade the U.S. tomorrow or ever most likely but they are working toward nuclear weapons. This is the same country that took Americans hostage for 444 days. This is the same country that has been chanting Death to America for 30 years. Wake up and smeel the coffe. The U.S. has enemies out there. Doesnt mean we have to be afraid but vigilant. I do not have confidence in Obama's dedication to being vigilant. We do not need a Community Organizer leading the U.S. we need a leader leading the U.S.. John McCain is a leader the U.S. can count on.
It's funny how we keep throwing in the "leadership" towel when it comes to war. Let's see. We started in Afghanistan and look where we are now. Even the JCS admits that we're LOSING on that front. How much news coverage has that gotten? Help me understand what we are "winning" in Iraq. Freedom for the Iraqis? Please. Look where that effort has gotten us financially. Another loss.
And now we want to vote the same philosophy into office to provide us with a fresh, "reformed" set of losses.
The ironic part of all this is that Obama takes all the heat for lack of experience, leadership, and understanding of foreign policy and he been the one calling for more attention and troops in Afghanistan.
You said it!! This woman shows no class as a politician and poor judgment as a mother!! We really cannot afford having her near the serious challenges of running this country. Make no mistake--she is running for President because McCain stands a good chance of not making it through one term much less two!!
You hit the nail on the head! Can you imagine this bible thumping hockey mom running our country!!?? And we thought Bushy was a nightmare.
Ross.
What Iraq had to do with 9/11? AL quaida in more then 80 countries, should we invade all of them for that reason? don't get me wrong I don't like Saddam, but he kept balance and control. Iran wasn't talking crap when he was around. We went and took him out and Iran now knows we weakened. I am not against defending ourself, but military force have to be used when all other means of diplomacy is being exausted, and bush didn't even try that. Mccain supported 90% of his policies. We not winning and surge is not working as you think it is. Remember rebel leader declared truce. that why most of violence is down. they waiting for american to leave. and iraqies is fighting each other. but we can't babysit them any more. its taking tall on us. Our economy is going down drain. Remember bush is in control from 2001, republican congress was since 1992 to 2006. And Democratic congress only has slight majority, like 52 to 48 in senate. And republicans filibuster and bush veto's. and you need 60 votes to override the veto. I blame both parties for not working together on issues in congress. Stop attacking Community Organizers, remember they are martin luther king jr, woman rights groups, groups that fighting for equal pay for woman, even pro life groups run by community organizers. Plust he did that right from school. Obama finished Harward with political science degree. He was president of Harward Review. Mccain was in bottom of his Academy class and Palin had communication degree that took her more then one college to finish it. don't compare it. Remember MCCain was 26 years in senate, why didn't he do all the things he says now he will? If he knows how to defeat Al quada and find Osama Bin Laden why didn't he share that infor with president? Is he saying if I get elected only then I will tell. that bull.GOP one who said this election about popularity not issues. What issues did Mccain talk about really? I don't hear much only negative lyes against Obama. Obama is very respective to him. Vote for issues not emotions or prejustices or fear
The Lefties are full of such HATE!! As you can see none of us that are on the Right are bashing your opponents. We prefer to discuss the important issues of the day and the differences between the two parties. We do NOT attack the opponents. It is apparent to me that Sarah Palin has hit a very sensitive nerve with the Democrats and I believe they realize that they are in very serious trouble of losing!! They do not realize that the more they disparage Sarah Palin the more independents jump to our side!! (The polls bear this out!!)
Karla, you are wrong, Clinton screwed whomever he wanted and they were not all willing.
MC Cain once said, his behavior in his first marriage was, despicable. Offered no excuses and has tried to lead a much better life. Clinton`s behavior has not changed, over the years. there has been no atonement. So that is comparing Apples and oranges,
Clinton years, all the attacks we had????. What response did we give? Just what you all want, nothing much. So, it all led up to 9/11.
Vote for whomever you want, but face the truth. The truth is you`re yellow dog democrats. Before you throw comments at me, you have no idea for whom I`m voting. But, I see the vitriol posttings that this site has and therefore I realize who can stomach watching and listening to the lies of keith Olbermann. There is no listening to reason.
Critics of Sarah Palin are unreal. Had she been a Democrat, none of this would be coming out.
She does seem to have a supportive and loving family. She seems to have spent her life working very hard. Her kids have come to work with her. Have worked at home. Husband is supportive and now we are telling her she can`t work? She`s a bad mother? C`mon. It`s all about party lines.
Let me get this right...Sara Palin is this horrible terrible person who should not be allowed to run for office because she has 5 kids and won't be there for them. Talk about going back in time! Every male President has had kids and this has NEVER been an issue. I do believe Sara has a husband that is very capable of raising HIS kids. Why is it always the WOMEN who have to raise the kids and stiffle their careers while the fathers succeed and provide. Have I been transported in time back to the 50's? I can't recall a time where I've ever seen one of these post people screaming that Carter, Clinton, Regan or Obama should not run for President because he has a responsibility to his children. Sorry folks, if Obama wins he won't have time for his kid...guess we can't vote for him either! He needs to stay at home and nurture his child.
Oh, "afMalice" and "Linda-451803" I totally disagree, with every fiber of my being, that this woman is not capable of running the country. She has fought corruption, even against her own party. As for "no-class," you can plainly see how down-to-earth she is. She knows what she believes in. Also, she can't force her daughter to do anything. You may teach your children all the right things, but sometimes they make bad decisions as is the case with her daughter. I bet you have problems like these, as any family does. Besides that, the bible is what this country was founded on. You can't deny that or defend a position against it. So indirectly, you could say that by being a "bible-thumper," as you so plainly put it, would put her at the forefront of how to defend this country and the constitution. Besides, even if you don't believe in God, the bible has excellent leadership principles in it. This is a woman who knows what she believes, and can really relate to the average American. This is very important because we are a nation "of the people" and our leaders need to know how we think and feel. Secondly, President Bush cannot control half of the things that you probably think he can. He cannot control foreclosures in the housing market or people using credit to buy things they can't afford. He can't control gas prices in the middle east. He also can't force people to invest in the stock market, which is a side-effect of the stock market, foreclosures, and debt. Not to mention that he had faulty intelligence when we invaded Iraq. Besides, Bush pretty much had a 99% approval rating when we invaded. So pretty much, the PEOPLE wanted to invade Iraq and Saddam. In my opinion we need to invest in new energy technologies, and provide better financial education in our schooling system. That would alleviate some problems in America. You really don't have to blame Bush for everything that goes wrong in this country. Besides, I would have liked to have seen what Gore would have done had he been in Bush's situation...THE SAME THING!!!!!
Arizona Rep
two years ago Sarah Palin was the mayor of a town of 6,000 people... two years!
She might be able to run the country someday, but not today.
McCain-Palin: 15th Century Solutions for the 21st Century
Working moms cant bring their kids to work with them
Working moms generally do not have Nanny's
Working moms for the most part believe in women's issues
Working moms make many sacrifices for their family that generally does not include exploiting their families including a pregnant teenage daughter and her boyfriend
Oh and how much did Geraldine help that cause?
I totally agree with every point made. I have two children and a husband, and there is not enough time in the day for all working moms do.
she doesn't have a nanny.
There ARE companies which allow working mothers to bring their children to work. They established day care services right in the same buildings. Some small offices allow mothers to bring their children with them. My friend has a playpen right in her office for her daughter.
Sarah Palin does not have a nanny. Her husband helps in the care of their chidlren.
What women issues do you speak of?
I cannot see where having her children (whether one was pregnant or not) being there with her. You speak of using children? Then what about Obama having his two daughter's out there on the campaign trail with him. What about the Bill Clinton having Chelsea out there when he was campaigning? When did you ever see a Presidental candidate out there without his children? Oops forgot. I think it was Reagan.
Great job & wonderful points! Her kids are the ones missing out! If she wants to run for a large office like this one, then WAIT until your baby is grown. She's putting her own desires first instead of remembering the desire she fed which gave her that child in the first place! She'll be lucky to kiss her kids/husband good night every night.
So you know A woman that brings her daughter to the office. What % of working moms have that luxury? I will give you maybe 15% the other 85% pay for daycare services. The nanny I speak of is her husband. How many working families now a days can afford for 1 spouse to not work? I will give you 30% on that one. What about the other 70%?
What women issues????
Equal pay for equal work
Right to choose
Family leave act
Equality in general
The debate is not her gender its her beliefs
Stop defending the woman and start defending women
Donna S,
How many women have husband at home to take care the children like Palin(except those lost job men)? Obama's children are at school and his mother-in-law is helping too!
Jobs that let you bring your kids are out there if you look. For the 85% that pay for daycare, well have they really done the math between what they are getting paid and what they take home, is it worth working? They are most likely working to pay the daycare and maybe use the rest to buy groceries.
There are lot of men now days that stay home and take care of the children while the wife works. I would not call them nannies for nannies get paid. I call that a parent.
You ask how many families now days can afford to live when only one spouse works? Well I have to respond with, if you want kids, you should be able to stay home and take care of them. For 24 years I never worked (for the 10 years before Imarried I did) and my husband drives a truck. No big bucks there, but we still afforded to buy our own home in a middle class neighborhood, keep out of debt, have no credit cards and put our daughter thru college. It is called "living within your means".
I believe in equal pay for equal work, but I also believe if you are hired because of your race or gender and not being qualified for a position is wrong.
I also believe in the right to choose. But if you are married, I also believe that a decision a woman makes should also be shared by her spouse. Remember, it took two to create.
Palin may have certain beliefs, but I am willing to give her the benefit of the doubt that she will "not" bring them to office with her. Just like many of the men in office now share her ideas on a personal level but do not use them in their decisions when it comes to the benefit of the citizens they serve.
I work in the mornings part time at a daycare, I homeschool my daughter, I help feed cows and am a secretary and dispatcher for my husbands trucking company. I think I do a pretty good job balancing family and work. The key is that most women don't want to take a job that pays less just so they can be with their families. It is a lot of hard work and we are just barely middle class but it is worth it. And most importantly I would never ask the government for anything. You should work for what you get and I think that is what scares you democrats to death. Sarah Palin actually worked her way up and you are right she will probably expect you to do the same thing!!!
About a couple months ago, University of Leicester in England published an article "The Happiest Place on Earth" and our great nation was ranked #23. The study used the responses of 80,000 people worldwide to map out subjective well being. When people are asked if they are happy with their lives, people in countries with good healthcare, a higher GDP [gross domestic product] per capita, and access to education were much more likely to report being happy."
We perceive ourselves as "the most powerful country in the world", but why our people aren't as happy as the other 22 industrialised countries? We can hide in our little comfort zone and believe what we have now is the best, but that doesn't change the fact that the majority of people are usuffering. Capitalism is wonderful when you make millions a year. The fact is most of us don't make above $100K a year. I don't advocate that the US should become a socialist country, but government involvement is needed in certain areas- ie, health care, education, etc. Why the Repubilcan always won the so-called "red states" because (sorry! but I have to be blunt here) people from these states tend to be less educated and believe what the government tells them. Little do they know while they are "working hard to put bread on the dinner tables to feed their family", the rich people who are well protected by the Repubican's policy are having parties on their expensive yachts. It's like poeple from the "Dark Age", they complied to the Church because they feared "punishment from God" if they disobeyed God's will.
We may say that we don't care what the rest of the world thinks about America, but that doesn't change the fact that America is suffering and declining. And frankly, I believe, nowaday, the rest of the world doesn't give a rat's ass about what we think of them, either!
Save us! Obama/Biden
McCain-Palin: 15th Century Solutions for the 21st Century
THE THOUGHT IS WONDERFUL. IF ONLY WE LIVED IN A PERFECT WORLD WITH PERFECT PEOPLE
This is absolutely too early to tell. We have to first see if she is going to be vice president. Her responsibilities will definitely change though.
If this starts a national discussion about family, working moms, and PAID leave for maternity/paternity issues, then I will be happy. I said earlier that I am an Obama supporter, but no one ever asks the men how they intend to combine work and family, it is STILL assumed that the family piece is the woman's responsibility. I teach a marriage & family class and I put that question out to the students to think about for a few mintutes - "How do you expect to combine work and family?" Then I start calling on students in class. Many of the young men have no response, even today in 2008. The women mostly do have some response ('that's why I am choosing this major/career, because of the time off', that's why I intend to work part time until my children are old enough to go to school'). ALL people come from some form of family and if all people wish to be a part of a family as adults, then all people should think about this issue.
While I agree with you about men needing to participate in the rearing of a child, I'm not sure I agree to what extent. I'm an Obama supporter too so this is friendly.
Since having my daughter 4 years ago, my career has been put on hold. I really didn't expect to have the feelings I do about her and would have never thought I would choose to stay at home with her putting my long time career on hold. Fact is, I wanted to and felt a deep obligation to her to do so. She's my number #1 priority! Now, I still have participated when convenient in volunteer work and have been looking for temp work for at home type positions but my mission is clear "my daughter comes first". My husband is a great dad but my daughter needs me to be with her and daddy to offer the fun, play and support. Again, I never thought these words would come out of my mouth (being a career woman raised by a single mom) but that's exactly how I feel. So Palin "in my view" has her priorities all mixed up. Never mind her other "radical" views, she is simply DOING THE WRONG THING to her children.
There is nothing wrong with a woman who has children who wants to work and for her husband to stay home. I know several types of these families and the children are well-behaved, loved by both parents, getting good grades and they love how their family works.
No one has the right to decide how and why a particular family should or shouldn't be except for that family. Just because a mother works and isn't home with her kids during the day, doesn't mean she doesn't love them. It's a different age now. Fathers are more involved with their kids. Yes, and sometimes a woman can be the breadwinner for the family and the kids still get all the perks they need from a mother but in the form of their dad. Nothing is wrong with that.
Obama only has two children, neither of which are babies. Palin has five, one in diapers and one with a baby of her own on the way. Have you ever been in a household with five children? There's a big difference.
It's not sexist to expect a woman to care for her children. What does Palin plan to do with her family if she's elected? Move everyone to DC? Commute from DC to Wasilla? No one has asked Obama these questions, but Obama isn't as devoted to Illinois as Palin is to Alaska.
She apparently hasn't been in the house with five children either.
You brought up a good point. No one EVER asked men how they deal with work/home life. There are a lot of men out here raising their kids on their own. So the work issues fit them as well. Unfortunately, I don't think Sarah Palin was a good choice in the beginning. You can't possibly think you could raise 5 kids and be the VP of the United States and possibly the President one day!!! I wouldn't be surprised if her husband left after the first or second year of being in office IF THEY WIN. I still haven't heard the McCain/Palin ticket talk about any real issues. They always play back on what someone else said about Obama. This man has a plan about education, but I haven't heard not one thing from the repubs. People keep saying it's too soon to tell. WELL, No ITS NOT!!!! The election is 2 months away. I want to hear them speak on the real issues, not about who is doing whom. No one is paying attention to what really needs to be said and what needs to be done. I listen to what Obama has to say because he is the only one talking. I wonder what are his views on men/women working and raising kids on their own?
I think the main thought that gets lost in this discussion is that working or staying at home is supposed to be a choice, a choice that is private and should not be judged a'la the working vs stay at home moms struggle. (And let's not forget that this choice is also supposed to be available for men but to a large degree it is not.) Each 'side' has to deal with the pros and cons of their choices. However..... let's also remember that for a large multitude of American families the choice is taken away from them. Lower class families often need two incomes to help make ends meet and single parents don't have the luxury of having one partner stay at home. Apparently Palin has decided that work is her choice regardless of how many children she has, how old they are or if they have special needs. If she can afford to do so, with her husband since she is married, then she will have to deal with what it does to her family. We can speculate and not agree with her choice but that is all. It is time that Americans finally start to realize that 'different from me' does not necessarily equate to 'then it must be bad'. This is what diversity is all about. Accepting other people's choices. Once we do that maybe we can start talking about the real issues facing the nation.....
It was posted: I listen to what Obama has to say because he is the only one talking. I wonder what are his views on men/women working and raising kids on their own?
Well who DOES stay at home and takes care of the children? He is a Senator, his wife a Lawyer...hmmmmmm
Here, here. Soc Prof. I am a working mom, and my children are taken care of by their father. By the way, my youngest has mosaic down syndrome. This is what works for our family. It was not MY choice it was our choice. (unless I win the lottery). As I said we made the choice. It was works best for us. & I did go back to work after having a child in less than 9 days. I have to because of money. But I figure she might have felt that she needed to lest someone say she wasn't fit for the job. Funny how that works. Damned because she went back so fast but damned if she hadn't because someone would have complained ther too.
Please give this woman a break! Regardless of one's politics, let's get real... this lady has managed her life amazingly well. In this age of women's independence, why does "a woman" gets so much static for being a smart, strong woman; who balances a political career and 5 kids, and does it in Alaska. I am amazed at how the "double-standard" still exists just because she's a woman, but no one ever asks these questions of the men? She's one of the most down-to-earth, decent, religious, high-achieving, independent, practical, classy and most impressive "persons" I've seen in the public eye from "any political party or entertainment/celebrity crowd" in my life. Her candidacy is doing more to "put working moms on the front page of American thought than anyone woman has done before". It puts millions of macho, lazy-ass dads on the hot seat. No matter what one thinks about Sarah, every working mother in America should be damn glad she showed up!
No breaks. None. When you enter the national arena, it's gloves off. Otherwise, enter a field other than politics and seeking national office. This isn't Scarlett O'Hara we're talking about here or somebody have the "vapors"--no deference when our country and our well-being depends on the compentency of the candidate.
when she got on the stage at the RNC and started being a smart mouth she wanted in the arena. besides this women is for her self not her family or her country. so if she wants to run with the big guys she better beable to take it.
NOPE, Ms. Speedy. You are missing the whole point! Palin doesn't need a "break" she needs a reality adjustment. She needs to stay away from trying to take my rights away (I'm pro choice), she needs to understand what it means for regular women to want equal pay for equal work and she needs to stop peddling religion! I for one won't have it! Palin is a backward step for women in this country and she's already proven to be a liar just as her friends Bush and Cheney are. Proud? And, this woman can't even manage her own household.....
The lady is NUTS...she doesn't even believe in global warming...YIKES! We don't need "TWO" more liars in the White House and this lady in Arizona is fighting on the ground daily to make change happen! People get involved if you believe as I that McCain and Palin are BAD FOR AMERICA!
She had to elope because she was pregnant. Her daughter is a high school drop out because she is pregnant. Not exactly a wonderful personal track record. My daughter is an adult and I STILL worry about getting the "I'm pregnant" call at 3am.
This is not a $10/hr job offer. We are expecting this woman to fulfill the position of VP of our country. It's long hours, stressful situations, and working with foreign dignitaries.
I was also a working women. But it was always understood that my child was my first priority. Even when my daughter was in high school if she needed me I walked out of my job to care for my child. Can the VP of our country walk out of a meeting if one of her kids needs her?
Managing her life well does NOT make her qualified to be VP, or pres. Think about what will happen to this country is this barbi doll is elected.
Oh really?? Sorry sweetie - she does not represent Main Street America working moms!
I don't think so. She is far away from manage well both family and job. Think about it, how many hours she will stay with children specially the younger ones? We working moms all know about it. How many of moms are having husband helping all day long? What about single moms? McCain's pick all is about his tickets. If he ever really think about US people, he would not pick this person (forget about Palin's gender) he only met TWO times!! Also I am very sick about his moral stands to his first poor wife.
McCain-Palin: 15th Century Solutions for the 21st Century
Gov. Sarah Palin does NOT even represent Women's issues, she's voted or cut funding these very issues in her home state of Alaska. She doesn't support sex education, I find this shameful coming from a mother of a TEENAGE PREGNANT DAUGHTER!!! I find John McCain's pick in Sarah Palin is NOT based on her qualifications, because we ALL KNOW there are other FEMALE GOVERNORS with far more experience on a national and foreign level than Sarah Palin, so that just doean't HOLD water. Women KNOW that John McCain picked Gov. Sarah Palin to "pander" to the Hillary Clinton supporters Bottom line. Women are not stupid, John McCain might think so, Karl Rowe might think so, but women in this country are not laughing and are far from being amused.
The whole "Palin Fever" will soon die down and when she goes up against Sen. Joe Biden, she will have PROVE her qualifications all by her lonesome self. She won't have Bush's speech writers outlining her talking points, nor will she have people like Karl Rowe or Joe Lieberman whispering in her ear on what to say or not say.
The bottom line here is that, ALL the candidates have been fully vetted nationally, EXCEPT for Gov. Sarah Palin. John McCain has kept her sequestered from the voters and the media since his announcement of her as his VP pick. I think there's a big RED FLAG in his doing so. Gov. Palin was NOT the choice of voters and has never been officially vetted by the American people or the media. There's something very WRONG with this pictures. If John McCain was so CONFIDENT in his pick, WHY isn't he allowing her to be vetted like he was, and like Sen. Hillary Clinton and Barrack Obama? WHY all the secrecy?
Voters need to START paying attention to the ISSUES and START doing their homework and STOP listening to all this "GOSSIP AND FEAR MONGERING" being dished out by the McCain camp. The purpose of all this nonsense, is John McCain is praying the American people will forget about the REAL ISSUES facing this country. It's a typical George W. .Bush "smoke screen" to distract YOU from the real FACTS. This is what the Republican Party is KNOWN for, they are KNOWN for as the "distraction kings" when it comes to politics in this country. Just look at the past 8 years!
Do you not think that Obama picked Biden to be his running mate to counteract the fact that he (Obama) did not have any experience? So what if McCain picked Palin to attract women! I read about him having her on his list of possible candidates at least a month before he chose her so I looked her up and read about her before hand, just as I did all the other possible running mates.
BOth for McCain and Palin.... She has not been talking to the media, but has instead been out talking to actual people, she was here in our area this week. People NEED to start thinking and investigating things for themselves about what is really important in their lives and what is important to our country and not just believing everything the media tells them to believe. Wouldn't that be a change????
Why either McCain or Obama picked their running mate doesn't really matter to me. I don't care if McCain picked Palin because "she's a woman" and might get him a vote he wouldn't have gotten without her. What I can about is what they both stand for and what I feel they would do in office. I don't like what they stand for and it scares the crap out of me to think we'd have to put up with 4 more years of this garbage.
I think it's interesting that you saw Palin on McCain's VP list a month before he chose her... especially when McCain's camp flat out said she wasn't on the list until 2 weeks before the RNC. Hmmm.
Palin and McCain have not be "talking to actual people". They have been giving speeches in monitored crowds. McCain hasn't had a "town hall meeting" because he can't field questions that challenge him.
Can someone at least write Palin a new speech?? How dumb can the woman actually be that she can only memorize a few talking points per month???
EBC I could not have said it better myself!
EBC I truly agree with you. But people aren't paying attention to the facts at all. I don't want another 8 years of the same.
I will put this out there though. Some people who were democrats have now said that they are going to vote republican. WHY? Please don't say its because Obama has no experience. If he didn't he wouldn't be running. The bottom line is his skin color. The man is talking about change, bringing troops home, revamping the economy, and getting education straight for the kids. But no one has heard him say this. All you hear is he has no experience, he's not ready to lead, he don't know what he's doing. Seems to me the man knows exactly what he's doing. Everyone has been trying to dig up dirt on him and people are afraid that this black man has lived a straight and narrow life. No drugs, no arrests, no affairs or hidden kids anywhere, his wife was never addicted to drugs, he never left his wife for another woman in her time of need, none of that. People only comment on what he says and twist it around. This is a very important year and i think we need a new face in the office. I gladly welcome his ideas because he IS the only one stating facts and issues at hand. PEOPLE, PAY ATTENTION. DON'T LET A LITTLE LAUGHTER AND SLANDERING OF ANOTHER PERSON FOOL YOU. OUR LIVES ARE AT STAKE HERE. WE EITHER STAND TOGETHER OR STAY DIVIDED.......
Thank you so much for making this statement. It is so true!!!! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU>>>
McCain-Palin: 15th Century Solutions for the 21st Century
The women who say she won't help don't even care about women's issues. They just support the libs and their socialist leanings. talk about ignorant!!
Ignorant??? Excuse me - but, this woman would be a heartbeat away from the presidency, and at McCain's age that might be sooner rather than later. You want women to go backward because this VP candidate is so Pro-Life - she is even against abortion for rape and incest victims. If you are a woman - shame on you. Palin will set women back decades if she is the VP.
By the way, if she is so great - why is the McCain campaign keeping her from being interviewed?? That way, we could see what 'her' ideas on policy really are... She is an adult, McCain picked her and she made an adult decision to accept the VP nomination. Now 'she' needs to tell us who she really is and what her beliefs are - starting now rather than a day or so before the general election.
Sadly you are the one who is ignorant to think she is helping us working women? With the screen name 'Bob' I can only imagine you are a man therefore, you have no idea. Until you walk a mile in my 'heels' then you cannot comment on a subject you know nothing about. Were you a stay at home 'dad', probably not. I take complete offense to your comment and think you are better off staying with your 'crowd' only.
Palin does not represent the average working woman, or women in general.
As a mother, grandmother and a retired working woman, she is one of those
who puts ambition before the welfare of her family.
And, in doing so she distorts, exaggerates and lies. Anything, anything to win.
We intelligent women shudder at the fact she is supposed to represent us.
SHE DOES NOT!!
Her stances, policies (well previous ones as we have not been allowed
to question her) beliefs will put women and our country back for
years.
We must make sure this woman does not have the opportunity to be
put into the second most important position in our country
Our survival is at stake.
We "intelligent women" do not all agree with you. Some of us believe that she does represent women. I too am a mother, grandmother, professional working women, widowed at a young age, and I think she is a darn good pick for the VP slot. Just because you do not agree with all of the things she believes in does not make her necessarily wrong. If she is makes it to the White House, do you really believe that she can automatically change everything to go along with her beliefs. Do you not understand how the government works? That is why we have a Senate, House of Representatives, a Supreme Court, and a President. Kind of checking and balancing!
Are you willing to take the chance?
I have been a supporter of womens rights since day one.
Mccain has voted against everything that would enhance equal
pay, equal rights and has stated his goal is to overturn Roe v Wade.
I am not enthuised about abortion but am a strong believer in
pro choice.
I also am a strong believer that our country is sitting on quicksand.
And, republican policies, reckless policies have put us in that
position. She is even more supportive of the destructive path
they have put our country on than Mccain.
Can you support her with her distortions, lies (some which have yet
to be exposed), her total disregard to environment, asking how to
ban books, abuse of power? Support of the Iraq war?
I am not against her because she is a woman, I am against her because
of her beliefs, policies and lack of integrity.
Our children, grandchildren etc have been made victims for decades
to come. And I do not want to see one more life lost in war, and
additional wars that will surely come if Mccain/Palin are in office.
The branches of our government will probably have to be explained to the McCain/Palin ticket since neither of them have much of an education.
P.S.
I was also a widow at a very young age, working to try and survive.
Women were treated horribly in the work place. We have come a
long way, but there is always room for improvement.
We will not get that with Mccain/Palin.
Like Bush, they will veto every advancement for women,
middle class America.

The branches of our government will probably have to be explained to the McCain/Palin ticket since neither of them have much of an education.
I'm disappointed in this comment. Surely someone with your education could come up with something better than this.
glrogers... McCain/Palin are not the brightest in the campaign. It is very obvious, they won't discuss 'the issues'. Gee, does that mean we are going to have another G.W. Bush??? The biggest idiot of all the Republican party - then McCain & Palin come in behind him.
Sandy..I think you are not giving enough credit to the McCain/Palin camp. By keeping her away from the media as long as possible, the Obama/Biden camp is more worried about how Biden can win a debate over her than keeping focus on their campaign. And its working. If you look at the coverage, Palin has been getting more attention than Biden. Everyone will know more about her. What DO you know about what issues Biden stands for? You only know his experience in the Senate which by the way, has voted the same as McCain on many issues. Funny..
btw..Remember, Obama was no where until all the news media focused on him and less on the other candidates. Ohh..yes, I did vote for Hillary.
I agree with KatieC. Her comment was posted on Sept. 11, and it is now Oct. 11. Palin has done much, much more in this past month to cement her role of a woman who will do anything to further her political ambitions. As McCain's "attack barracuda", she has shown all of us how vicious she is, all the while palming off her baby on her older daughters. They and her husband will be raising that little special needs boy, not her. She is a horrible example to other working moms. To put unbounded ambition before family is yet another example of her severely flawed character. Since she's against a woman's right to choose (which, by the way, is NOT the same as being FOR abortion) she is a dangerous person to have in office with the power to break a tie vote in the Legislature.
She charged rape victims for rape kits. That should tell you all you need to know about what she would do to help women in any capacity.
Where did you get this information, please?
I second that. Please tell us. So we can see for our self.
I hear it this morning on MSN. They was mentioning this happen when she was the Mayor. she took it out of the budget and charged it to the rape victom. It would be a sad thought if this is true. I'm going to check it out further.

Female George Bush Gets A Lot Creepier

Now that the press is digging up dirt on the Female George Bush from Alaska, she's actually looking like one of the worst human beings, ever. When she was mayor of Wasilla, she had the police department billing rape victims for their rape kits.
Not really in touch with her feminine side, I guess.
The Frontiersman / May 23, 2000
ANCHORAGE - Gov. Tony Knowles recently signed legislation protecting victims of sexual assault from being billed for tests to collect evidence of the crime, but one local police chief said the new law will further burden taxpayers.
While the Alaska State Troopers and most municipal police agencies have covered the cost of exams, which cost between $300 to $1,200 apiece, the Wasilla police department does charge the victims of sexual assault for the tests.
Wasilla Police Chief Charlie Fannon does not agree with the new legislation, saying the law will require the city and communities to come up with more funds to cover the costs of the forensic exams.
According to Fannon, the new law will cost the Wasilla Police Department approximately $5,000 to $14,000 a year to collect evidence for sexual assault cases.
She is truly
OK Grandma and Ian - you've had a chance to confirm the story. do you still think she is a good choice?
I was trying to give her the benefit of the doubt, but along with this (charging for rape kits) and trying to fire a librarian for not getting rid certain books. OK. She's a bit touched (crazy)
Ian, she did not fire the librarian over books.
According to librarian Mary Emmons, she and Palin discussed the question of library censorship in October 1996. Palin also spoke publicly about the issue, stating that censorship "was discussed in the context of a professional question being asked in regards to library policy" and that she did not have a specific list of books in mind. No books were removed from the library. Several books acquired by the Wasilla Public Library have been challenged over the years by various citizens as poor selections, but were not removed. For example, the book Heather Has Two Mommies, about a child raised by lesbian women, remained on the shelf, and Palin did not target it for removal. Yes she gave Emmons a letter of termination, but the next day rescinded it.
As for the charging of rape kits, the news article forgot to mention that it was passed and approved by members of the City Counsel or how many in the community agreed with the proposal? So why are you not jumping all over the rest of them that approved it??
Donna.. thanks for info. However, just the thought of her thinking of firing this librarian over books she doesn't approve off. That bothers me. What comes to mind is Germany and book burnings. How can you be comfortable knowing this?
As for the rape kits. On the battle field, the solders don't get the credit or blame. The general does. In this case the, she's the Governor
Im sick of seeing these candidates PIMPING their children all over the place and Palin is THE WORST! She has an INFANT with special needs and went back to work after THREE DAYS? Come on now, how many "nannies" does she have floating around the house?????? And shes supposed to be the poster child for working mothers? EXCUSE ME, I DONT THINK SO!!!
If she were a REAL mother, with the resources given to her, she would take a BACK SEAT to her career in order to give her children what they REALLY need and thats HER time, energy and patience ......not a part time mom, with a fulltime nanny!!! Shes not fooling anyone but herself, if she thinks that once she gets to the white house that things will stay the same .......talk about being in denial!!!!
When my children were young, I was BLESSED to be able to be at home with my children, granted so many women dont have that luxury, and I thanked God EVERY DAY for the opportunity to give my children what they needed more than anything .......ME! I cooked, cleaned, paid the bills, took them around to football, baseball, soccer, ballet, tap until the youngest was in 5th grade at which time I felt they were old enough to be able to "tell me" if something were wrong .....and while we made big sacrifices by me staying at home (my youngest two were 11 months apart) I dont regret FOR ONE MINUTE, sacrificing my career for the well being of my children!!!
And to think, shes going to have her disabled son thrown in the middle of all of this craziness with being in the white house .......its CRAZY to me, so im waiting and watching her but she is clearly NO hero in my eyes ....
Have a Blessed Day!!
My adult daughter is a single mother because the father chose not to be a part of the child's life. She struggles, but does a wonderful job raising my grand daughter. There are millions of women in this country that raise children and work, single and married, be it with a nanny or without. Tell me how this will have more of a negative effect on her children than if your father were President of the country and had his name constantly in the news for having affairs with other women? This family is no more dysfunctional than the average family. They are just in the spotlight now and others will dig for any reason to make them sound bad.
How many children does your daughter have, one or five?
When's the last time that we had a father with five children in the White House? I don't believe this has occurred in the last hundred years. I'm not sure that we've had anyone with more than two kids in the last hundred years...and none of them had babies... or teenagers with babies....
My daughter has one child, what difference does that make?
Are you telling me that any parent with more than two children shouldn't be allowed in the Whitehouse?
Lu..better start doing your research..
Theodore Roosevelt (1901-1909) and his wife Edith raised six children in the President's House. The oldest was 16 and the youngest was 3 years old when the family moved in.
John and Jacqueline Kennedy were one of the youngest presidential couples to live in the White House. Caroline Kennedy, almost 4, and John Jr., just an infant, moved in on February 4, 1961. Jackie became pregnant and lost a son while John was President. Mrs. John Kennedy had young children in the White House and did not want reporters following her daughter Caroline to school. Her solution was to create a first-grade classroom in the White House. Ten of Caroline's friends met for class on the third floor. They all had to bring their lunch to school in a lunchbox.
Joe Jarolim"What have the Rebublicans done in the last eight years?? Do we want four more of that?? "
I would rather have 4 more years of Republicans than 1 more year of what the Democratics did. You think Clinto was looking out for the peope. Think again. He was looking our for himself and Monica. That's not what I call leadership. Futhermore, if you don't know what the Republicans have done in the last eight years, I suggest you study politics in the U.S. and around the world. It's easy to come to a blog site and "balst any party, but it only shows ignorance to post a message and not back it up.
First of all: When you allowed McCain to pick a woman the he has the hot's for as his VP, you lost all rights to criticize Clinton.
Bill Clinton worked to make the country a better place for it's citizens. Bush and Cheney have pillaged the country. If having a girlfriend makes you do what's right for the country, then maybe we should have gotten Bush and Cheney some women.
I seem to remember the Clintons being able to show up for the Democratic Convention. Where was Bush and Cheney? Bush got less airtime than Lieberman and Cheney wasn't even in the country.
Where is Cheney? Over in Europe hiding his money???
"if you don't know what the Republicans have done in the last eight years, I suggest you study politics in the U.S. and around the world."
Lets see, ignored Darfur, started a war with Iraq before finishing their last war in Afghanistan, lost relations with Russia, and Venezuela, had Europe calling us stupid for our choice in the '04 elections, loosing backing from our NATO allies in Irag and Afghanistan, dropping the ball during Katrina, loosing an opportunity to improve our relations with Cuba after Castro stepped down, ...
Shall I continue?
Excuse me ... the Republicans dropped the ball during Katrina. Or do you not recall Bushie's comment 'you are doing a fine job Brownie'??? Oh, I am so sorry, I forgot, the right-wing conservative idiots don't remember the 'errors' of the Bushie administration. I am sure all those that lost loved ones and/or lost their homes remember very well what the Bushie administration did not do for them.
Sandy C., As far as Katrina goes, it was Ray "School Bus" Naggin and FORMER Gov. Blanco of Louisiana that DROPPED the ball!! The Federal Government is ready at hand to give aid to all potential victims of hurricaines (i.e. see Florida, Texas, Missippi who did a good job in WARNING their residents to evacuate DAYS before a hurricaine hit)!! FORMER Gov. Blanco was OUT OF STATE when the hurricaine hit and only the DAY before requested aid from the government. Mayor Ray "School Bus" Naggin did NOT use the school buses to transport the hundreds of people out of New Orleans because he DEMANDED that ONLY Greyhound buses be used to bus everyone out. Because of his and her negligence a lot of people lost their lives!!!
Also, if you look at Appropriations Bills that were passed, just one example of where money was allotted for Katrina:
Emergency Supplemental Appropriations Bill of 2007
- Department of Agriculture, $412 million for Katrina recovery efforts
- Department of Justice, $170 million for Katrina recovery efforts
- Department of Defense, $4.85 billion for Katrina recovery efforts
- Department of Homeland Security, $4.31 billion for Katrina recovery efforts
- $221.9 million for the Department of Commerce for Katrina recovery efforts
- $146.19 million for the Department of Interior for Katrina recovery efforts
- $1.53 billion for the Department of Health and Human Services for Katrina recovery efforts
- $57.41 million for the Department of Education for Katrina recovery efforts
And yes, Naggin did not want people on school buses. Naggin would not accept anything but greyhound busses. That I DO remember in the news and was totally awed that the type of transportation to be used was more important than getting the citizens out.
I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHERE TO START. LET STOP ALL THE GUESSING AND LET US ACTUALLY HEAR FROM GOVERNOR PALIN. MY FIRST QUESTION IS WHY IS SHE NOT BEING INTERVIEWED, NO OFFENSE MR. GIBSON BUT YOU ARE WHAT A REPUBLICAN CONSERVATIVE...WHAT TYPE OF QUESTIONS WILL YOU ASK. MY NEXT QUESTION IS WHY IS SENATOR MCCAIN KEEPING HER BY HIS SIDE ONLY TO REPEAT THE SAME COMMENTS DIRECTED AT SENATOR OBAMA. ENOUGH OF THE BRIDGE TO NOWHERE AND THE EBAY JET, WHICH I MIGHT ADD HAVE TURNED OUT TO BE UNTRUE (CANT SAY LIE)IT MAY BE TAKEN OUT OF CONTEXT. I AM A PROFESSIONAL WORKING MOM OF TWO AND I AM OFFENDED BY HER THINKING SHE CAN REPRESENT ME. IF I HAD A YOUNG CHILD LIKE TRIG I COULD NOT ALLOW ANYONE ELSE TO RAISE HIM, A 4 MONTH OLD NEEDS HIS MOTHER, A FATHER IS WONDERFUL BUT THERE IS A BOND THAT NEEDS TO BE MADE IN THIS EARLY STAGE AND A NANNY IS NOT THE ANSWER. LAST BUT NOT LEAST LETS LOOK AT ALASKA RAPE, INCEST, STD, PREGNANCY PERCENTAGE AND ASK ANY WORKING MOM HOW SHE WOULD FEEL IF HER DAUGHTER LIVED IN THAT STATE. SO BEFORE YOU OR SENATOR MCCAIN DECIDE TO SPEAK FOR ALL WOMEN NOT JUST YOUR INNER CIRCLE, LIKE HILARY HERSELF SAID DON'T SPEAK FOR ME ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU ARE USING HER AS A ROLE MODEL. AND PLEASE REPUBLICANS, THINK BEFORE YOU DECIDE ON THIS LADY TOO MANY UNTRUTHS, LIES, SARCASTIC REMARKS AND NO MENTION OF THE COUNTRIES CURRENT STATE WHICH IS THE WORST IT HAS EVER BEEN, DO OR SAY SOMETHING ABOUT THAT-THAT IS WHAT US WORKING MOMS WANT FOR A DAUGHTERS AND SONS A BETTER BRIGHTER FUTURE, THE SARCASM IS A TURN OFF, I CARE ABOUT THE ISSUES AND OUR ECONOMY AND SENDING MY CHILDREN TO COLLEGE, LETS GET BACK TO WHAT IS REALLY IMPORTANT PLEASE, THIS IS NOT A COMEDY SHOW, OUR COUNTRY IS IN TROUBLE, THINK ABOUT THAT BEFORE YOUR NEXT SPEECH...
You said it very well. I wonder why she has been joined at the hip with McBush. I look forward to her having one on ones with media. Can she speak for herself? But she is scary in many ways.
Rhonda Carolinas, why the yelling? Again, Governor Sarah Palin IS a role model: She was a successful Mayor, successful Governor, a proud mother of five wonderful children and has stayed married to her husband of 20+ years. Barack Obama CANNOT say that, hollywood elitists cannot say that! She handles herself very well. During her acceptance speech her teleprompter broke but she was able to carry on without a hitch!! Barack Obama has stumbled on his words when there is not a teleprompter (i.e. My "muslim" faith . . . and then George Stephonopolus had to correct him!). She is more qualified that the PRESIDENTIAL nominee on the Democrat ticket. She has had to make many tough administrative decisions where as he has yet to be tested. I also find it repulsive that Barack Obama voted to have babies born alive from botched abortions left to DIE. That is just COLD and INHUMAN. He also wants universal health care= socialistic health care AND he has stated he would cut THOUSANDS from our MILITARY budgets. Did 9-11 mean anything to him????
Actually Hillary's response to this questions was reported as: Obama's former Democratic primary rival Hillary Rodham Clinton once again brushed aside questions about Palin yesterday as she marched with labor and stumped for Democrats in Manhattan and Staten Island. "This election is about issues," she said.
If you look at Palin's record, you will see she is all about cutting taxes. Where as dear Senator Obama voted many times for tax increases and also by the way, gains on capitol tax which he nows says he wants to cut. Don't listen to the media, go read it for yourself. I read what the news reports say about a canididate or what they say they stand for and then go check on how they voted on a very reliable Government site I found. The only thing I disagree with Palin on when it comes to Government "issues" was how she voted in regards to the drilling in Alaska.
I have to take a little offense at the idea that my state (IL) would actually propose a bill to kill babies. There was never a "leave babies to die act" that Obama voted for. There was a "Born Alive Infant Protection Act" that was passed in the IL legislature. Obama voted "present" on this bill, which is not for or against. There are more issues that go into a vote of "present" that has to do with the legislative culture in Illinois which are too lengthy to write about here.
Also, universal health-care does not equal socialized medicine. Universal health-care is coverage for health-care that extends to all citizens. How it is implemented depends on whether or not it is socialized medicine. The state of Massachusetts has universal health-care.
A Woman Who Thinks Sarah Palin Rocks, It's fine that you think Sarah Palin rocks and that she is a role model. But you say that Barack Obama is not? How can you say that? Do you know how many little black boys now know that anything is possible and that they can strive toward success and know that it can be achieve. Yes Obama is a role model for all minority little boys and girls. I am 23 years old and this has been the most exciting year of my life b/c of Barack Obama. HE is MY role model. And please check yourself Barack does support the troops. I am also a soldier and numerous times Michelle and Barack have reached out to Soldiers and their families to talk about what we go through. Yes he did vote to cut funding for the WAR not to us Troops. WE do not see even a third of that money. Most of it goes to contractors and rebuilding Iraq while the Iraqi Government sits on their 80 billion dollar surplus! I am glad he voted against the funding. You are very misled and you are obviously residing blissfully in your ignorance, where ever that is. Do not use US, American Soldiers who are in Iraq fighting so you can sit there and debate over trivial nonsense and lies. DO NOT use us to slander this man who stands for change!
I did some more digging after posting my comment here and found out that the article I read on Obama's vote in the state senate did not elaborate nearly enough. He did vote against the bill, but I still don't think that the statement that he voted for letting babies die misrepresents what he voted on. He was by no means the only senator who voted against this bill, and it was later reworked and passed.
"Palin does not represent the average working woman, or women in general.
As a mother, grandmother and a retired working woman, she is one of those
who puts ambition before the welfare of her family."
katiec. I can see you are a Democrat by your message. Please tell me why anyone would not put ambition in front of their life. As far as the welfare of her family, I believe you can check and see for yourself, the welfare of her family is much better than 65% of this country.
Skipster,
Why would anyone "not put ambition in front of their life"? Because raising children well is the most ambitious job one can possible undertake. Most of my friends and I had plenty of ambition and fulfilling careers before we had children. We made the choice to make those children our ambition for their first few years. After they were older, secure, and better able to have surrogate caretakers we resumed our careers. Meeting the psychological needs of a child to ensure that child will become a stable, happy, productive adult is dependant upon solid, positive psychological development in the first few years (See Eric Erikkson, stages of psychological development). As much as I support women's rights, equal pay and job opportunities, the presence of a consistent, caretaking mother is almost irreplaceable in meeting the psychological needs of a developing child.
But, as has been stated earlier, the issue of Sara Palin's being a working mother is not the salient point in this discussion. She would not in any way improve the lives of women in this country. Her beliefs that every woman doesn't deserve an equal choice in life, her lack of belief that we are stewards of our environment, the backward, unsustainable belief in abstinence only sex education, her statements that the war in Iraq is God's mission...the list goes on. She is a very weak candidate for a position that requires an extraordinarily strong and qualified leader.
Funny how you can never satisfy liberals!!! If they had Hillary, who by the way slept her way into office. They would by so gleeful to have a working mom. But because she is a self made conservative woman, ooh she is not a good example. Get a grip and admit that you don't want a self made, successful woman but are looking for a rich politician who says they are for the working person, oh but by the way never worked an honest days labor themselves. This woman is a champion, not only for women but for men as well. Way to go Palin, just ignore the noise.
A lot of the problem with putting a career on hold, especially when you are working for a company, is when you decide to stay at home to raise your child, or leave work early or take off busy days, your work load always falls back on someone else. There are people willing to work and if you choose to raise a child, leave the company, and do so. It was your choice, Stop dumping on other people. They have a life also.
