The American entanglement in Iraq has receded as a campaign issue in the past few months, partly because the number of American casualties has declined since last year. But Iraq will be an unavoidable dilemma for the next president.

Barack Obama

McCain says 'there will be more wars byr friends. Oh yes, there will be more wars.' He is a warmonger... not what we need to bring peace.

If you watched Newsnight on BBC Friday night, I agree with the soldiers. Its time to get out of a senseless war.

He has been more right than McCain has so far. I think his vision is better in the long run as far as the long range diplomatic one.

Honestly, I'm not sure. I think Obama will do what's best for the people of the US rather than the lobbyist and pocket for bib business.

The best policy is the best "judgment". Obama opposed the war from the start. McCain does not good judgment on anything.

We can't afford to keep so many troops there. Lower the number drastically and let the Iraqi gov't step up with troops and money.

I think Obama will do everything he can to put an end to the war without putting our country at risk which is all we can really hope for. Most analysts say that we can't just pack up and go but we can't afford a trillion dollar deficit either. More than likely, neither candidate will be able to end this thing exactly how he planned but McCain seems to be bent on "winning" a war that most of the country is against. I'm also not comfortable with his ties to Georgia (one of his advisers is a lobbyist for Georgia). The last thing our country needs is another risking the lives of American people for his own personal vendetta (next time maybe against Russia).

He will do everything he can..... Kind of scary, he will probably do what Clinton did, overlook where Osama was for personal and political gain. Yea, that's good for the country. It's why Osama had the chance to bomb us in the first place. So Obama will go and deal something stupid under the table THAT WILL AFFECT US IN THE FUTURE...BUT WAIT, YOU MIGHT ASK HIM HIS PLAN BECAUSE AGAIN, OUT OF HIS MOUTH IF IT IS NOT A LIE OR A BACKTRACK, WELL HE SIMPLY IS TALKING IN CIRCLES WITH A BUNCH OF NONSENSE. And some of you actually are taken in. Please, give me the issues and HIS resolve to help me understand, not that you will but you can try. I'm not wearing those rose colored glasses when it comes to Obama.

When Obama was running for the Iowa caucus in January he said he would bring the troops home two weeks after inauguration. He said that to win the caucus. Now later he changes his position to that of a centrist, 16 months, maybe more, more troops to Afghanistan. Point is, if he is elected, he will change is position more when he gets his presidential briefing (top secret reports, threat reports, eyes only information) and he will have to do things that we won't understand.

Remember, we are voting for a commander in chief to keep us safe. Vote for your representative and senator to balance the budget and work the economy issues.

Think carefully...., with your brain, not emotions.

The Republicans have had eight years with the reigns now. And personally, I've had it with the damn nonsense. I think all Republicans really need to evaluate what's going on now, and see how well this government has served it's people.

Are the american people better off? Is the flag flying higher on the pole? Has this administration done anything to stop our factories from going overseas? Has our republican administration lifted one finger to stop these oil bastards from stealing our money at the gas pumps? (Why should they, they are the greedy bastards themselves!)

Military force is supposed to be used for defending our freedom. Are we IRAQIs or something? Why are we defending them? Could it be that we're really there because we're actually defending OIL? But wait, we TOOK OVER IRAQ! Why in the hell am I spending 5 bucks a gallon for that??? Can anyone tell me ! why they really think that the war in Iraq will be over any time soon. The republican party will not withdraw troops from Iraq strictly because they feel it would be a defeat instead of a victory . think about it ! The same things were said by the generals in Vietnam , it should be over in a matter of a few years , [well they didn't indicate a few decades ]so the only realistic thing to do is to elect a party that has the best interest of the American public and that is the democratic party . [ War ! ] What is a good for "absolutely nothing "

Republican for BARACK OBAMA I must strictly agree with the policies indicating America must leave " Iraq "John McCain has not shown any real interest to realistically stating that America has made enough mistakes by interfering in a government that is not interested in dealing with their problems independently. BARACK OBAMA continues to indicate policies that can be changed dealing with the government of Iraq . American forces have done a marvelous job and should come home as soon as possible . It's said that the violence is down, if this is true,American forces are no longer needed in a country that does not care about the interest of the American people. !

Obama hasn't got a clue about world policies...and he uh figured since there uh wasn't a war going on uh when he was 18 that military service was not necessary for him. (Clue...there was something going on in the Mideast then...look it up). He was too busy anyway, associating with criminals and communists (You can look that up too.) God help this country if Obama becomes President.

I am a wife of an army veteran who has retired and was a part of Desert Storm. We now have
3 sons that have followed in their fathers foot steps. 2 have been to Iraq. this is from my sons mouths I wouldn't mind so much going to war if it was the right one! I thought we were going to find Bin laden instead we are in Iraq. We have a president that is not thinking about the battle fatigue of these soldiers
male and female from all across the military, Army, Navy, Air force, Marines, Reserves and National Guard!!! Can you believe that the National Guard!!!! They are supposed to be the ones that protect our shores our homes!!! They are across the water trying to help our depleted military. I whole heartily agree with you we need diplomacy!!!! always being the big bully in the play ground gets you no where. I believe it's time to try something different. We cannot continue to do the same thing the same way and expect different results. We have never been a country that lived by fear and that's all we have been fed for the last 8 years!!!!! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

To be honest, I don't give a darn about what might or might not happen in Iraq if we leave, we should not have been there in the first place. Powell said it was the Pottery Barn rule, "If you break it, you own it!" but I think he is wrong, we need to simply let them make their own decisions, and the last I heard, they want us out. Obama is the only light at the end of the tunnel to get us out, let's go!

What McCain and others don't seem to understand is that there is no 'victory' in an occupation. We either stay there forever or we get out now, responsibly as Sen. Obama has advocated for years. I wish McCain/Palin would elaborate when they keep using that term 'victory'. McCain wants the "When Johnny Comes Marching Home" celebration and there will never be one. Palin - well she's just clueless - Iraq is a task from God and it will be God's will (the war and her pipeline). It is so obvious that one ticket is reactionary and undereducated, while the other is thoughtful, careful, has good judgment AND is well educated. I'll take the smart critical thinkers anyday.

McCain you talk no sense at all, you said we are winning in Iraq after how many years, I think all our troops will kill in Iraq before you win the war.

The only way to approach Iraq now is with honesty and integrity since our involvement was based on a lie! Call it misread documents or whatever but it all boils down to lying. An intelligent leader recognizes that there is no honor in staying except to try to help them rebuild a country we ruined in the first place. All the men who pushed this war have abandoned the current administration either because they help fool myself and others or because they no longer wanted to be part of Bush's personal vendetta against Saddam, whom Bush accused of threatening his daddy. Too bad we really were not under the leadership of a Christian because then he would have gone on his knees and learned to turn the other cheek. I firmly support the Obama/Biden position that we need to focus on Afghanistan in our hunt for extremist who continue to attack all over the world. I hope Americans wake up and realize that this bullying approach to diplomacy is only hurting our nation globally.

What the heck is going on in the USA. You say give up on Iraq and just walk away are you nuts ?? Our young men and women have died over there and you just want to let their deaths be for nothing. What would have happen if we had done that in WWII. For a matter of fact what would have happened if we had done that in any war. How soon we forget about Pearl Harbor and the Twin Towers and all of those who died in those places. Yes I agree we need to let Iraq start running their on country but just leave is the wrong thing to do. As always all you see on the news is the killing that goes on but we are doing more than that over there. How do I know this you ask, well I work in Iraq and I know what I'm talking about. So go ahead and get in your nice warm beds and cover up your heads and maybe when you wake up all will be fine. Mc Cain will see this through and we will be better for it.

Don't be fooled by empty promises. When something is too good to be true it probably is. Everyone keeps saying McCain will be another Bush. Excuse me - do any of you know that the senate has been controlled by the democrats for the past 2 years - where are those changes that were promised then. After hearing that Obama is having a fund raiser where dinner cost over $20 000 for one - I am disappointed to say the least. People have lost their homes and the Red Cross is pleading for donations, the country is in financial trouble - yet the liberal elitists have chosen to spend it on a dinner fundraiser for someone who might not even win the election. Why not show you care by having a fundraiser for the people who where affected by the hurricane. WHERE IS THE CHANGE? Some may not like McCain but we know where he has been for the past 26 years. Ask yourself where you better off with the Clinton administration? Why people assume that McCain will be like Bush and not Obama like Clinton is not fair - a few changes here and there but overall the same! Furthermore, it is not a fair election when the media chooses what facts to represent.

And, let's not forget, Obama did not want the surge increased while McCain did and the surge has tremendously improved the situation in Iraq so I think McCain has a good handle on things there.
