Barack has been the leader that all of us who have been following him for the last 16 mos. have already seen. He's level headed, calm, confident, intelligent and down-to-earth. I also think that if the American people are cynical of these two based on previous unfulfilled promises by previous presidential hopefulls, they need only look at the character with which they have lead their overall life. If Obama was just looking for power and to get ahead, he would have started off by taking that high paying job on Wall Street directly out of college. He chose a $12,000/year job working to better the community he had come from. That and his dedication to his family speaks volumes to me.

Also, he has two little girls who will be living in the America he helps to create. That's a big motivator. John McCain probably won't live much longer beyond his presidential term/s. And then can retire in the lap of luxury. I just think Obama has a more personal stake in fulfilling his promise to this country.

For the most part, Obama maintained his cool, deflecting the numerous jabs from McCain and keeping the discussion on the issues. He never gave me the feeling he was condescending to anyone, not even to his opponent who made some pretty strange and awkward gaffes ("that one," "Not you, Tom," etc.).  He knew all he had to do was be himself, something McCain seems to have a difficult time doing these days - which is what happens when you listen to your "handlers" for too long, and too often.

While both men are clearly competent to handle the job, Obama's youth, vigor and energy held him in good stead througout.  Senator McCain just looked old. The difference in their ages, and outlooks, could not have been much more glaring, and in that way, the debate was good for America, if not especially helpful to McCain.

I doubt any Obama voters jumped ship on the basis of this debate, but everything I've heard and read tonight indicates that a lot of indie and swing voters may have joined his team.

Pelosi and her Dem friends in congress have the lowest rating for doing nothing in congress in history. They are the ones to blame not Bush.  Yup It was the Democrats that lowered the standards for the FANNIE and FREDDIE which caused the snow ball for failure of our financial system. I hear a lot of yak on this site do some research. It is the Dems that have control and oversight of the FANNIE mae and FREDDIE mac and HOW they do business in the USA. They are the ones that set Policy Look up Barney Frank. Engage the brain folks get wisdom and get some understanding.

Nobama plus Tax that’s what we will get another 4 years of Jimmy Carter I remember it was marked by high interest rate for mortgages of over 18% for a fix rate loan. Gas lines over a mile long and being able to fill your gas tank only on even or odd days remember that?

McCain started every answer with an attack on Obama. I too tired of "My Friends," it has a phoney condescending tone to it. McCain seem to take a page from Palin's book with rambling answers that made no sense. He's angry and barely in control of his own emotions. His wandering of the stage while Obama talked was rude rude rude.

It's almost not worth commenting upon but I ultimately (last impressions last) found the event extremely unbalanced and tilted in one direction.  NBS and MSNBC, as well as Tom Brokaw, whom I used to respect,  should be ashamed of themselves.   Following the debate the cameras spent the last several minutes "hugging" the Obamas.  How contrived can you get?  And Tom was right there with them.  Talk about a foregone conclusion!

Oh, and since he never answered the last question (preached all around it) I guess there's nothing Mr. Obama doesn't know.  Ya gotta love the audacity of youthful arrogance.

"the cameras spent the last several minutes "hugging" the Obamas." ?? Only because the McCain's weren't around.  Tom Brokaw did not tilt his interaction, but I did notice McCain's snide remark to Brokaw.  You gotta love the tasteless humor of an old prisoner of war hero.

repeats of a dumb comment .. no one is providing health insurance to those who ARE NOT citizens.. no one suggested it either... stupid rhetoric - ignorant and inflamatory - and candidly no one is drinking your kool aid anymore...

I was impressed on how Michelle Obama was talking to the crowd and shaking hands, Cindy McCain was following her husband around like a lost child.  Barack and Michelle were still there shaking hands, and talking to the people, and where did McCain go??

It's more an issue of "where did the cameras go?"

The cameras followed Obama on half a dozen channels to include CSPAN, the reason being, McCain left right after the debate. Obama stuck around for over 20 minutes talking with those who were there. So ask yourself, why does a man who puts the country first, take off immediately after trying to change or influence voters? Hate to tell you this, but it seems like McCain felt he had better things to do. Obama felt the public whom he was speaking to was a priority, and he had a fundraiser to attend right after his debate. Sounds like a man of the people to me.

Senator Obama was the "President". Senator McCain was the banty rooster trying to keep up. There is no doubt who won and who is the intelligent adult and who is the 'wanna be'.

Tom Brokow lost a lot of my respect. He is obviously on McCain's side and it was hard to watch. Boo hiss- at least TRY to be impartial. I won't be listening to Brokow any more than I will listen to McCain. Time to go back into retirement Tom. Time to go back to the 'cabin' John.

I think John McCain did better this time than he did before but I think Barack Obama handled himself as he always does with direct answers, on the point responses and in touch with all the american people not just a select few.

I agree with some of the other postings. Brokaw was horrible and McCain did sound like he was telling a ghost story to a kindergarten class.  When McCain said, "that one!" referring to Obama he sounded like my Mother when she was in a fit of anger and forgot my (or one of my siblings) names.

Obama has really impressed me over the past few weeks.  McCain is right, I do want a cool hand at the tiller, Obama's.  Obama was the clear winner, again.
