Does the health of the presidential candidates matter to your vote?

The bar for VP selections should be placed at the EXACT same level as that as the presidential candidates. One debate isn't enough. Other mandatory forums should be in place. Palin should not be allowed to "skirt" the media!!! If she were a man, she would have been laughed off the stage by now. This is beyond ridiculous - this candidate is a national tragedy!!!

VP's are required to step in should anything happen to the president, so although the exact same level of competence is not required, a very parallel competence is required if something should happen to the president and the VP need to take over.  A bachelor's in journalism will not help one to make crucial national and international responses and decisions as Powell pointed out yesterday.  It is further not an on-the-job training sort of position...it is the second highest seat in the United States.  So I agree with both of you and I am really glad Powell addressed this issue.  Normally age would not be an issue but with McCain being 72, it is a huge concern, thus important in retrospect to know if Palin is competent enough to be VP should anything happen to him.

RUSH: I went back, because I remembered something.  This past summer, Gallup put out a poll, McCain needs to hammer this.  It was June 27th, headline:  "Americans oppose income redistribution to fix economy," by 84-13%.  Hello, Joe the Plumber.  "When given a choice about how government should address the numerous economic difficulties facing today's consumer, Americans overwhelmingly, 84-13, prefer that government focus on improving overall economic conditions and the job situation in the country as opposed to taking steps to distribute wealth more evenly among Americans.  Eighty-four to 13.  This is back in June.  Now, granted, gas prices were very high in June.  The economy and the Wall Street mess had not yet come to the fore.  It was effervescing out there.  We hadn't gotten to the point where we're panicking and talking about bailouts.  And in another portion of the same -- this is Gallup, now -- "Half of Americans think government is doing too much, not too little."  This is the Joe the Plumber lesson.  

The Joe the Plumber lesson is not who he is and not what he said.  The lesson is what Obama said.  But now the Drive-Bys have to go out and destroy Joe the Plumber.  As I asked yesterday, how many Joe the Plumbers, Joe Six-Packs and Josephine the Plumbers are there?  They are doing everything they can, the Obama campaign staff, the Drive-By Media, to destroy Joe the Plumber, and he's having some hard economic times right now like a lot of people are.  They're even saying he's got this fantasy of owning a business.  He's got a fantasy, as though that's not possible, who is this guy, thinking he's going to own a plumbing business. The plumber's union yesterday dumping all over Joe the Plumber about the fact he doesn't have a license or what have you.  The fact is he is a plumber and he can work.  They're doing everything they can to destroy this guy.  What is this fantasy business?  He has a fantasy.  Fantasies are unrealistic, are they not?  That's why they're called fantasies.  Dreams are what he has, that's right, he has a dream and they're calling his dream a fantasy.  I hope people are noticing what this Obama campaign is willing to do in order to win.  It's a page right out of the Clinton book.  You destroy anybody, including average Americans you claim to have formulated your economic plans to help... The Associated Press poll shows McCain down to Obama 44-42.  Now, there's an interesting side light.  In the last four weeks, Obama has not moved.  He's gone down in some polls.  He's not over 50.  He can't get over 48.  If you take the average of all these polls, he's at 48, and he has not moved in a month.  But this AP poll, this is near journalistic malpractice 'cause I have the story.  The poll, don't forget, now, 44-42, Obama.  Here's the headline of their own story talking about their own poll: "Voters Souring on McCain."  Obama stays steady.  It's 44-42!  I read the whole story.  I read the entire story.  Nowhere in the story is their poll mentioned.  Their story focuses totally on how voters are souring on McCain, in a poll that they report being 44-42 Obama, two-point poll -- statistically tied.

She was elected Mayor and Governor. Obviously, she is doing something right. Obama has never held an executive position at any level. Can you honestly say that you know how he will act if he became President?

The only thing she did right to be elected is that all the governors before her were a bunch of corrupt. She critiziced them, won the election and then proceeded to do the same old thing: left her town in debt, charged the state for the travel of her children even when they were not officially invited, commited ethics violations, etc..etc. And that is without putting her on the magnifying glass... I'm sure there is more.

I can't listen to Palin speak for longer than 5 minutes without getting a headache.  Darn it, dontcha know, golly, we are going to be the laughingstock of the world if she gets into office.  Try as I might, I can't follow her train of thought when she answers questions or gives a speech.  UGH....  She is the lowest common denominator!  Obama may not have experience as governor, but at least he is intellectual and thoughtful, something we need more than ever at this point. 

Think about...If I were to be put in a position to take over and run your household with  your family living there. You would stop at nothing short to scrutinize any and everything about me and I mean everything for as long as it took...it would always be an ongoing thing with you...and if not, it should be! Because I would be entrusted with the lives of not only you but your loved ones as well.  Every decision that I would make in that household would have the most profound impact on all of you....so it would be wise to put me through the microscope over and over again leaving no stone unturned..that being said picking a VP (that could actually end up being President) if something were to happen to McCain is a very dangerous thing not mention poor judgement. Its dangerous because she has been on the seen for what? 7 weeks, no one knew anything about her (and she is all of a sudden qualified to be VP because McCain picked her?) she was under investigation when he selected her and the republicans backed by McCain tried everything in there power to stop the investigation and at worst delay it until the election was over..but guess what? she was found guilty of abusing her power as govenor for personal reasons to get her ex bro in-law fired and she ended up firing the state trooper. She broke the law according to the bipartisn commitee and the state of alaska she violated the code of ethics in which she swore to uphold when shw was sworn in as govenor...she also tried to fire a libraian who would not remove certain books from the library...she eventually fired her, later she was re-instated...this is a person of vindictiveness ...someone who lied and said she did nothing wrong...but was found guilty be the committe that she had selected along time ago not to mention the state board of ethics. She new nothing abour rove/wade and could answer an intelligent question about if she agrreed with rove/wade what other cases could she name that she disagreed with..she could not answer....she said she gets alot of info by reading and Katie Couric pressed her about which articles she has read and from what book/magazine etc she could not name one! She has been on the Vp seen for 7 weeks, Obama has been on the campaign trail for 2 yrs...its a big difference 7 weeks and 2yrs...

My point is my friend, she should have been scrutinized alot harder than she was, maybe not as hard as Barak but none the less she should have been...we have no Idea what she would do/how she would perform under enormous pressure and what she would get this country into...and that my friend is scary

Newsmatt is typical of these hate-filled Republicans who feel the election slipping away and don't want to face the fact that the eight-year Bush/Cheney nightmare is almost over!  I have a great deal of respect for Colin Powell speaking up about the fact that McCain's negative campaigning and Palin's inexperience were important factors in his endorsement of Obama.  If more American voters had the backbone to reject the negative campaigning and vote against that kind of politics, the Karl Rove people might crawl back under the rock they crawled out of!  Funny, it's not that easy to find someone who will admit that they voted for Bush in the last two elections, but more than half the country must have!  In the same fashion, all these Republicans who fell into lock-step every time Bush/Cheney told them how they were going to vote and what was required of them by the Republican Party, all caved in!  Without their support, Bush would not have been able to run this country down in so many ways!  Now, they have finally had the balls to speak out against the Bush adminstration, probably just to get re-elected, and McCain falls right into this category!  The ad that shows him touting his 90% voting record with Bush says it all.  This "maverick" helped Bush/Cheney bring down our country, and now he wants people to forget about it.  Sorry, Grandpa Potatohead, it's Obama/Biden this time!!

I am a minority, native American, and I can honestly tell you that there were times that I felt the same way as Mr. Wright. I can tell you that I watched a show on the KKK and those kluckers all said that they felt the same way about America and how it is going downhill because of us folks of color. McCain is two years older than his father was when he died suddenly of a heart attack at 70. He is 11 years older than his grandfather was when he died suddenly of a heart attack at age 61.

The United States cannot afford the risk that McCain would die suddenly in the middle of an international crisis.

Nor can we afford the risk of dementia. 22% of Americans over 70 are affected by mild cognitive impairment, while 13% of Americans over 65 have Alzheimer's. Ronald Reagan was diagnosed with Alzheimer's at age 83, but early signs were evident during his first term. Britain's "Iron Lady" Margaret Thatcher developed dementia at age 75.

McCain has never had an Alzheimer's test, even though he has 6 of the 10 warning signs , including his inability to remember recent facts like the number of homes he owns, the $1M lawsuit he filed in 1990, or the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003.

John McCain owes America a thorough neurological examination for cognitive impairment and possible Alzheimer's long before Election Day.

I guess if you cannot debate policies (see Obama's lack of any legislative or executive achievements) attack his health!

I used to discuss with one of them about it... then the 2000 arrived, then the 2001...2008... etc... and now I asked him: so, where is the doom ??? His answer? Abortion is never a good thing. Period. Obama himself said it a million times. If we can do something to avoid or help people in these situations, that would be better than the abortion. Nobody I know is Pro-Abortion. They only want the RIGHT to decide by themselves.

Now, our constitution also gives us the right to self reliance, and to decide for ourselves what is best for us. Why do you want to remove that right from a woman? Palin even supports the ban on abortions on rape cases. Is not that extreme?? Why somebody would be forced to have the child of a psychopath??

get back to health issues and leave God alone. I agree with the idea Palin is NOT for protecting the environment, but when you go on like this you defeat your message. Rethink your approach, please.

I'm not sure about the answer, but consider this...Alaska is the largest state in the country and serious environmental issues to consider as governor, not to mention border issues with Canada and Maritime International border issues to deal with...also there are several departments within a government body of which she must have a certain amount of oversight for the purpose of ensuring accountability even though she may not be directly involved with the operation of those departments...a good leader will know how to honor the concept of delegation of authority and when necessary ensure that intervention is made when a problem has been brought to her attention.  Also, it could be argued that a Mayor of a large city could have similar experience but I could not tell you the differences as I've never been a Mayor, nor have I ever been a Governor, but maybe if you went to the McCain/Palin website and asked, she might explain it on a smaller scale...you could look up information on other elected officials and make some comparisons...and last but not least...if you have some concern about her being in a position such as the VP, you should not as there have been instances where individuals have been placed in that position and could be again through means other than elecions...example President Ford...went from Speaker of the House to the Presidency in short order manner...and it could happen with Nancy Pelosi as well with our current situation if there was ever an event that would precipitate that. 

Newsmatt, you seem to have been cozying up to Republican soundbites for so long, that it is difficult for you to distinguish between reality and fiction.  the issue here is not religion, which is surely not what you want it to be anyway (why?  Because you would very effectively lose on that front) reason being, if you get off of the Republican soundbites long enough and try to read at least some of the unbiased reports from fact checking websites, you'd realize very quickly this next statement.

Sarah Palin has been factually seen on recent video getting cleansed of demons and purified from the spells of witches, fact two, she has been factually seen and heard on video speaking anti-America rhetoric, fact three, even as she was introduced to America through the Republican National Convention, her first act was to disparage the reputation and character of a man she personally has never met, now what GOOD Christian has been taught to do that?

You also seem to have omitted her blatant abuse of power and unethical activities while holding public office in Alaska, which was recently shown by proof of evidence and as reported by a commission setup and run primarily by a majority of Republican officials, one which was started long before she ever became the V.P. nominee pick by John McCain to extinguish your it was a politically biased argument before you even start it. 

My last question to you, do you think God approves of the way the McCain/Palin ticket have handled themselves at any point during this campaign?

Now, stick to the article in question, which is the health of John McCain and stop trying to argue with religion using a losing and decidedly biased set of view points that have absolutely no merit in this discussion.
