Is it appropriate for the GOP to spend $150,000 on Sarah Palin's wardrobe?

Have to wonder how many of those donors to the Republicans are questioning where their money went.  Considering how many people don't MAKE $150K in a year much less get to spend it on two months' worth of clothes!!

During this economic hardship time, this is outrageous but it is Republicans who presidential candidate thinks that $250K is middle income. 

How depressing.

That's nothing compared to the 100's of millions spent by the Obama campaign to get a $400,000/year job?!

Monies used to fight off the attack dogs...too bad the Mc/Pal team didn't realize that clothes doesn't make the person, or increase their intelligence.

If it were an effective campaign, Obama would be a lot farther ahead in the polls.  Clothes don't make the person, that's why her approval rating is higher than the president's and congress' combined.

Makes me wonder exactly what she looked like when they pulled her out of those back woods.

The Associated Press poll shows McCain down to Obama 44-42.  Now, there's an interesting side light.  In the last four weeks, Obama has not moved.  He's gone down in some polls.  He's not over 50.  He can't get over 48.  If you take the average of all these polls, he's at 48, and he has not moved in a month.  But this AP poll, this is near journalistic malpractice 'cause I have the story.  The poll, don't forget, now, 44-42, Obama.  Here's the headline of their own story talking about their own poll: "Voters Souring on McCain."  Obama stays steady.  It's 44-42!  I read the whole story.  I read the entire story.  Nowhere in the story is their poll mentioned.  Their story focuses totally on how voters are souring on McCain, in a poll that they report being 44-42 Obama, two-point poll -- statistically tied.

Slightly fewer than a third of the stories about Obama were negative, whereas more than a third were positive and about the same number were neutral or mixed. More than half of the stories about McCain cast him in a negative light, whereas fewer than 2 in 10 were positive, according to Pew Research Center's Project for Excellence in Journalism.

The media watchdog group assessed the tone of the campaign coverage during the six crucial weeks from early September through the final presidential debate, examining 857 stories from 43 news outlets.

Although the authors acknowledged some observers would use to argue that the major media have a pro-Obama bias, they said their data did not provide conclusive answers. They noted that coverage of Republicans and Democrats in this and other recent presidential elections seemed to have more to do with their success than with their party affiliation.

Why does everyone think that Sarah Palin insisted on this wardrobe?  Calling her names over a decision that probably could have mattered less to her is just plain stupid.  The people who run the campaign make the decisions, wise up people.

, I'm college educated, a liberal, and I'm a nurse.  I can guarantee you that I am not a millionaire.  I do have a closet full of clothes I haven't worn in a while.  So, is it college, liberal, or money that makes us "elite"?  Or is it just college educated, liberal reporters that are elite?  Or is it millionaires?  What makes me so "elite"?  And, really, there's no actual way to "grow a brain". 

To me, the reports about her wardrobe are just stupid.  It doesn't take a new wardrobe to influence my vote.  And if they couldn't find her enough clothes for less than $150,000, well, then they're a little out of my "elite" league.

The RNC put up this money, this isn't contributions. None the less $150,000 is more than MOST women spend on wardrobes for most of their adult lives. Think about it, how many of you spend $5000 a year, 7500, or $10,000 on clothes? I'm sure the trendy mom making 6 figures MIGHT spend $10.000, but $150,000?

Michele Obama wore a $150 dress on "The View."  The dress she wore for her speech at the Democratic convention cost about $900, with another $600 or so in accessories.  Yes, $1500 is more than you or I could pay, but a hell of a lot less than Cindy McCains' $300k ensemble. (Palin clocked in at $2500 for a jacket alone for her acceptance speech).    And how many of those $1500 outfits would Obama have to buy to rack up $150k in two months?  As they say... do the math.

Wahoowa - Actually, I'm quite happy with the GOP's choice of expenditures.  It certainly will do tax-payers a service in the long-run that they are NOT spending campaign funds on avenues that will situate McCain/Palin in the White House.

OK, here 'ya go. Take the $1500 estimate in post 2.2 above of Michelle Obama's cost per outfit, then divide it by Palin's $150,000 "wardrobe". Comes out to one hundred outfits. That's almost exactly one $1500 outfit every day between the convention and the election!

I don't know about you, but I can't even imagine wearing a new $1500 set of clothes every day for three months straight. And we won't even get into Amy Strozzi, Palin's makeup artist who was paid $22,800 for two weeks of work of plastering on thick.

Now, the Philippines is still reeling from the excess of Marcos her husband and that of Imelda, decades after they have been ousted from office.

From what I understand Obama raised his funds through hard work, and he had already worked hard to get to a very comfortable financial stance. McCain and Palin used public funds. Doesn't McCain have seven pieces of property? It seems that they could have found a way to purchase these "campaign necessities" with their own funds.

 Why is her wardrobe expenses even considered when the economy is in the current state that it resides? With hyper inflation as an immense possibility why is the focus not on what avenue will turn the economy towards a recovery. Why is the media focusing on what someone is wearing, or how big there ears are instead of throwing out NAFTA (which cost Ohio almost one million jobs) or increasing tariffs to offset the cheap (and dangerous) goods sent by China, yeah, we own them money, but what’s more important their long term growth…our ours!

P.S. Why isn’t there a focus on what Hillary, Michelle, or Barack spent on their wardrobes?

I think the biggest problem here, and why Palin is getting called out on this, is because she and McCain are the ones repeatedly calling Obama an elitist, and she is the one who keeps claiming to be just like all the "Joe-six-pack-hockey-moms" out there.  If she were really like those people, she'd be shopping at Walmart and Target (like I do!!).  The other difference would be that, as far as I know, Obama and his family are paying for their own clothes with their own money that they have earned.  This money was given to Palin from the GOP simply to go buy expensive, fancy clothing.  Why, if she's trying so darn hard to appear as this "regular, average" woman, would they want her sporting clothes from Saks Fifth Ave and Nieman Marcus?  I also love the fact that she has Gretchen Wilson playing at her rallies - the "true Redneck Woman".  In Gretchen's song, she touts that she can buy the same clothes that rich women wear on the Walmart shelf half price and still look just as good.  Why is someone like this playing at her rallies, and then she goes out and spends $150,000 on clothes?  The hypocrisy is the story.  It's not that people care that Palin and Barack both wear nice clothes.  It's the message that Palin is sending: Do as I say, not as I do.

In the scheme of things this is a non issue. It is pointless to talk about how much either candidate spends on clothes because I am sure there is "excessive" spending on both sides. Its the nature of the game. The only potential problem in this case is that Sarah Palin and McCain are running an image based campaign. She claims to reflect middle America....the Joe six packs... if you will and that is not consistent with this type of excessive expenditure. Because she has created a certain type of persona, things like this are likely to have an impact even when (in my opinion) they shouldn't. They should examine how much the Obama family has spent on their duds.

Alaska and Hawaii are labled 'America's Third World Countries'.  It is a very SAD situation, but it is basically the attitude we feel and get from the folks who visit us.  To think a person from one of these areas is capable of assisting in running the country is questionable, especially if they don't get out much.  Sarah Palin can see Russia from her window. Why is everybody so obsessed over Joe Biden's comments? Regardless of who gets elected, he's probably right. The next president will probably face a major test his first year in office. The WTC bombing in the 90's, Clinton's first year in office. 9/11? Bush's first year in office. What Sen. kjacks08...isn't that the truth.  Sarah Palin set herself up for ridicule.  I don't think anyone would be negative toward her if she hadn't started first.  She appears to be sneaky and mean.  It's her image.  We didn't give it to her, she gave it to us.

I am huge on first impressions and from what I personally observed, here is a strange woman that jumped up on the stage and started trashing Obama off the get go...and I was thinking, "Wow, that is pretty nervey..."  It did not leave a good impression with me.  So I agree she brings this upon herself, and I have no pity for such people.  We reap what we sow and this is the image she has cast for herself.  The first impression also told me she has no class, is unprofessional with her heavy use of "slang," she has absolutely no depth in the simplest of subjects, yet gloats like an expert...but I haven't figured out what kind of expert yet.  If people are idolizing Sarah Palin they need some serious help because she has no integrity, morals or values and certainly does not mind pointing out those not like her in a negative way.

I agree, if she hadn't tried to come off as being our equal this wouldn't be a huge deal.  She stood there at the Republican Convention and spoke about cutting luxuries such as a jet and a chef in a $2000 silk jacket.  Hello.  Telling me about spending 150K on clothes is about as realistic as spending 700billion to bail out fat cats.   Not something any of us Joe six packs do.  I hate that title, just because I am a middle class citizen it therefore means I am uneducated and swilling back a six pack.

And how is RNC money taxpayer money? It is based on donations. By that logic, Obama is wasting even more "taxpayer" money.

The DNC has spend over one-quarter of a billion dollars on their campaign!!  McCain's funds are restricted and has spent less than half that amount.  Just think of how many good and noble causes one quarter of a billion dollars would do.  Then add both campaign expenditures together for some awesome charity infusion.  America needs some serious election/campaign reforms. 

YOU SAID IT ALL.  Sylvia's right.  She is a self-proclaimed pitbull with lipstick, winks at the camera like a dimwit during the national vice-presidental debate (HELLO, RED FLAG.... this is NOT A JOKE) and has already been corrupt as Governor!

This is not rocket science folks.  Even if you support McCain, think for a minute about what would happen should he die.  Think about it.  Can you truly say you would feel confident with this woman who flaunts her family like trophies everywhere she goes (hey, that's what hockey moms do, after all; put their children on display.... and drag them to every adult function around)..... in charge of our country?

Oh God.

Even if McCain doesn't die, we're with another Republican who has stood next to Bush high-five-ing him onstage for too long.

CHANGE folks..... that's what we need.  Obama is the guy to do it, if he's not assassinated by some right-wing nutcase.

And that, MY FRIENDS, (gotta love that...) is my opinion on the matter.
