You can't underestimate the lengths that some bigots will go to prevent a black man from being president.

Higher taxes for companies = higher prices for products & less jobs
A 1st grader could solve that equation. Too bad Obama can't

why is that strange?  If Obama is what the "right" says he is.  Do you honestly think our FBI, CIA etc... let him get this far.  Why does the "right" have to use scare tactics to get the vote?  It is very sad that you have to scare people to vote for you.  Obama being a "marxist" "socialist" whatever people are saying about him to scare people to vote for McCain is questionable about the "rights" intelligence.  It will not sway my vote or the fact that I believe that Obama is the right choice.

Make the right choice...don't let fear run your life.

MCCAIN is running scared he is soooooooo desperate that he has JOE THE PLUMBER out on the campaign trail is joe a politician?

Then MCCAIN says on tv this morning at a rally that he knows he and sarah has major differences but it makes it more fun. Is this man serious?

This is not a carnival MR MCCAIN and Palin is not your side attraction.............OR IS SHE?

And why is Palin going against what the GOP says by telling her not to talk and say certain things.....she goes totally against what they tell her and do her own thing.....

Seeems like Palin is in this for herself i guess she is also enjoying the rock star treatment that she sooooo put Obama down for.....

Seems like she is running her own campaign for the near future.....hummmmm go figure

Because, the LA Times like NBC, CBS, MSNBC and all other liberal visual and print media are in Obama corner.

I would be willing to bet if McCain was in a video questioning his qualifications to be President, the LA Times would be yelling and screaming "LOOK WHAT WE HAVE!!"

I am not a strong McCain supporter, however, I cannot elect someone who believes that I should work hard and then have my money taken and given to others. Give a welfare check to folks that do not pay taxes at all. Cancel the tax cuts for big oil companies when for the most part they do not pay taxes any way. When the tax cuts expire in 2010, how do you think they will continue to make money, by passing the expense onto us the consumers.

We are in this financial mess for many reasons, but the main one is GREED.

Obama should win b/c he's run the best campaign, energized the most people, has the best ground game, is the most pragmatic & rational, is the most inspiring, has what the country needs, is the most intelligent, is the most innovative & original, and he's ahead in all of the polls, but I put nothing past the Republicans to do WHATEVER it takes to win!!

I have to agree! Although all the polls say Obama is leading, remember the last two elections. I am afraid the GOP will steal this one too! Honestly, if they do, and if it can be proven, the constitution, that is already hanging by a thread because of Bush, will be split apart. Let us hope that the GOP does not screw this up. If you have read Kennedy's book, you will know nothing will stop them from trying to continue to control this nation. We need to make certain the GOP does not steal this. . . . . VOTE!!!

There is no doubt in my mind that Obama will win this election, and I don't think I have ever been more depressed. It seems to me that the American public is so enthralled with his speeches and promises of change that they are blind to reality.

My opinion is simple. I don't care what his ideas and plans are. I don't care how well he can speak, or what he promises. Mr. Obama lost my vote, and any respect I could have ever had for him the moment he disrespected the Flag my brothers in arms and I swore our lives to defend. I am both disgusted and appalled that this fact offends such a small percentage of 'Americans'.

Open YouTube, search for "Obama gets is wrong during Anthem". Then read the following paragraph.
U.S. Code: Title 36 : Section 301 National anthem (a) Designation. - The composition consisting of the words and music known as the Star-Spangled Banner is the national anthem. (b) Conduct During Playing. - During a rendition of the national anthem - (1) when the flag is displayed - A) all present except those in uniform should stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart; (B) men not in uniform should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold the headdress at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart; and (C) individuals in uniform should give the military salute at the first note of the anthem and maintain that position until the last note; and (2) when the flag is not displayed, all present should face toward the music and act in the same manner they would if the flag were displayed.
Oh, and for the record, I do not watch Fox News.

Nikki - I stated that I do not care about his ideas and plans, due to the fact that he does not respect the symbol of our Nation.

Our current economic crisis and our current global position in the world as well as our ability to gain health care, keep shelter over our heads and maintain / get employment is much more important than a "symbol" of our nation.  The people are more important than a SYMBOL.  Go ahead and vote based on a large piece of fabric.  I will vote for my children and their future.  Obama's ideas and plans are what will take us out of this crisis.  Get over yourself.  Oh, and watching Fox News would be more legitimate than getting your news from YouTube.

Umm... I'm with Nikki99... If you don't care about ideas... why are you even here?  Posting on a message board about... ideas?  What are you running on?  Some sort of emotion?  Fear?  Hate?  Umm.... yeah.  It looks that way.  Yep.  He's not "American" enough for you huh.  Interesting.  If he wore flag underwear, would that make you feel better?  Sounds like you've bottled up all your sentiments and finally have a "target."  Someone who supposedly isn't American enough for you.  You know why your purported little story "offends" such a small percentage ?  The rest of us aren't wierd and delusional enough to fit into that teeny weeny percentage of nutcases that latched onto some supposed dealbreaker of a story about... about a pretty darn good man if you weren't blinded by your animosity.

                                    Verilith-
Since you want to dwell on non-sequitors, then we can do that.  Title 4 of the US Code is not criminal code.  That's why when someone accidently leaves his hat on at the ballpark during the national anthem, he or she is not arrested afterwards.  If I had a dollar for every time I saw one of you right wingers waving a faded or torn flag, I could fund Obama's campaign for 6 more months.

The flag is not supposed to be a political symbol, but you right-wingers have hijacked it and made it one.  That, in and of itself, is flag desecration.  I would submit that Obama NEVER had your vote in the first place, and in the unlikely event you would change it over something as trivial as Title 4 of the US Code, then you have lost my confidence as an American voter.  The fact that you don't care what he thinks speaks volumes more than anything else you wrote.

How 'bout the flag that ended up dragged on the ground after a McCain/Palin rally in Missouri last week?  Do you still support the McCain camp after that?

Consider this as part of the bottom line:

You have to take into account more than just the one candidate who is running.  Look at who is going to be on his team of advisors.

Would you rather have Palin overseeing what's happening, vs. Biden?  (really, now, be honest.)

The McCain camp is already infighting, is off task, and is fueling this last week with some major scare tactics.

Obama will be surrounded by some of the most intelligent people we have ever had in his circle.  If he were to make a suggestion that would not be in America's best interest, he will have advisers there to discuss it with him.  Another difference between Obama and MCCain that I observed is that Obama appears to LISTEN to the ideas of others, whereas McCain seems to get very agitated and stiff.  That's not being a maverick.  It's being unbending and closed to change.

This is not about religion or personal beliefs so much as it is "who is better prepared to pull America out of the hole it has dug itself into (thanks to the Bush Administration and it's followers, one of whom is McCain, though he now denounces the alliance)....over the past 8 years?"

I hate to add on to that, but there is definitely a back up plan in place for my family if this nightmare McCain/Palin ticket somehow wins.  I would have to entertain the previously unimaginable thought of residing elsewhere.  There is no way the Country will survive under such leadership.  What the right-wing neo-cons don't understand (although some do), is that as scared as they are of Obama, they will do just fine under that leadership whether they like it or not.
Under George W. McCain and Sarah Palin (which would come first?), very few are going to make it.  That's what's scary. The appeal to the lowest common denominator.
Today's rightwinger is scared of an intelligent man. Somehow they think an intellectual can't get the job done. Why? Because he/she is too smart? Get real. We haven't had intelligence at the helm for 8 years and look at where it has gotten us. What an epic mess we are in. We need someone who is not black, not white, not yellow, and not purple. We need some with a head on their shoulders, and Barack Obama is that man.

Oh Verilith,  you should appreciate that your country has an opportunity with a President Obama to repair and restore this great countries position in the global marketplace and repair and restore our position of truth and fairness.  We have not had that since we launched an unprovoked attack on another country because people like Cheney and Rumsfeld had a puppet president.  The republican party has supported lies and cover ups to avoid taking responsibility with the american people.  John McCain has been part and parcel of the effort to deceive americans and show favor to greedy corporations.

While John McCain served his country faithfully and sacrificed greatly in a very unpopular war, that did not give him military skills to make him a better commander in chief.  He also cannot grasp the economic issues of our time and cannot offer any hope for ever climbing out the whole his partner and collegue George Bush has buried us in.

Senator Obama has a very important skill that GW Bush, McCain and Palin (by her own admission) does not have - INTELLECT.  Obama studies issues and asks for ALL sides to be understood.  Bush/McCain and Palin are looking for the cliff notes.  Policy for Dummies, if you will.

The times are too serious to risk any other option than intellect and calm, deliberate leadership.

You will see that in four years, your life will be much better thanks to President Obama.

He never disrespected the flag. And what is interesting to me is that my son, an Iraq vet still on active duty at Fort Lewis, says that his friends are almost universally behind Senator Obama.

Maybe it depends on what side of the Iraq war you saw, and if you believed it was a just war...
And by the way, at my son's graduation from Military Police training in Missouri, My family and I dressed in our best to honor the accomplishment of our son and his brothers. We were shocked to see people in the audience with us in ripped jeans and dirty t-shirts, WEARING THEIR BASEBALL CAPS AND COWBOY HATS during the presentation of the flag and the national anthem. That, my dear, is disrespecting the flag.

I guess Mr. Obama; soon to be president Obama; or as the reverand idiot jackson says mesiah Obama, can make any racial comment, dissrespect our country, insult our military or do what ever he wants because of his only campaign slogan "he is not Bush".

It makes me angry that this is the only reason anyone can give for electing such a bigoted fool.  And yes even black people can be racist.

Vegasmom1 - If a man can not do something as simple, yet heartfelt, as respect the symbol of this Great Nation, than how can he possibly respect the people of that Nation? If he is so quick to dismiss our  Symbol of Freedom, how quick will he be to dismiss Freedom itself? -- In regard to news from YouTube, that's just the only place I could find video evidence of his actions; it's not as though MSNBC or CNN would have that video on file.
MiddleClass - Fear, hate, target? To me, these words nullify anything you have to say. If I don't agree with this man's actions, I research and show evidence of said actions, this makes me some sort of Hatemonger? Of course it does, because if you're not voting for Obama, you're a hateful racist. I won't give this sort of response any further attention.
MBrown - I never stated that his disrespect towards the flag was criminal; I only posted the code because had I not, a plethora of people would have replied that there was nothing in writing saying there were set actions to be execute during the National Anthem. Nor did I say the Flag was a political symbol, rather I said it was the Symbol of our Nation.
Nikki - Honesty? I live in Delaware, and I'm not at all pleased with Biden. Palin may be a moron, but let me tell you, we've had far more idiotic VP's than her. Biden is a terrible choice in my opinion. I feel that the McCane camp is having so many issues because they already know they have lost. Once the Media decided who it wanted the next President to be, the race was over. Many of you will not agree with that, but since an overwhelming majority of Americans get their news from so few sources of media, the media ultimately has control over what those Americans know. As for who will pull America out of its rut, I really don't think either candidate will. I'm sorry, but listening to both of them, it's just my opinion.
Dian Larken - Your accusations of hate lack substance, and show that you yourself are driven by fear and hate. I have the right to my opinion without being refered to as a hatemonger.
Frustratedvoter - I must say, that's one of the most intellegent responses I've recieved in a long time. Thank you. I completely agree that Mr. Obama is an intellegent and resourceful man. Unfortunately, I absolutely can not trust a man who says he wants to lead our great Nation while disrespecting the symbol of said Nation. He seems very two faced to me, and it's unsettling.
Carolanne - Regarding military suppost of Mr. Obama, a Military Times poll of 4293 military members showed overwhelming support of McCane, 68% to 23%. As for the individuals wearing their baseball caps and cowboy hats during the National Anthem, I am in complete agreeance with you. That is disrespect. But then, so is not holding your hand over your heart, which is what Mr. Obama failed to do. I'm curious how they are different?
gguelde - Yes, it seems he can make any comment he wants. This is the environment we have created for ourselves over the decades, an environment where the color of your skin determines the limits to what you can say in public. This is an unfortunate reality. However, you must understand that Mr. Obama is running on much more than the slogan "I'm not Bush". To say this is narrowminded, as the man has several good ideas. On the other side, he has several bad ideas and a lack of real experience. McCane also has some good ideas, some bad ideas, and is sometimes short-tempered. Both candidates have their ups and downs, but I can not support one that does not have the simple respect for that which he intends to lead.

O'Bama has ideas, no experience.  What has he actually DONE to prepare him to lead this great nation???  Anyone can spout rhetoric, tell people what they want to hear, promise the voters he'll take care of them from the womb to the tomb, guarantee sunshine and roses.  When the parasites kill the host, the parasites die as well.  Game end.   I resent anyone telling me that what I work and sacrifice for shall be taken from me and spread around to others not motivated enough to earn it for themselves.  What has happened to this country??? If we're not rewarded for our efforts, we won't make the effort.  And hey, will the Obama insigna on his airplane be the new American flag???  Hey, if he wants it and we have a liberal controlled Congress and Senate....they can change just about anything.  If you all want a socialist country...go live somewhere else...there are plenty of failing socialist countries.

For the last thirty years the Repubilican party has been accusing the Democrats of being "Socialists and going to destroy the foundations of our democracy". It didn't work then and it won't work NOW! They have been trying to destroy everything that has helped our country to grow! Why do you think that is?  They believe that a progressive tax (like we have had since the start, 1908?) is unfair, well, LIFE IS UNFAIR, get over it !  You can't turn the clock back 200 years no matter how hard you try, so you better come up with a new plan, the Democrats are going to wash over the republican party like a tidal wave, the likes of which this country has never seen before . As far as I'm concerned none too soon!

I hope all you republican types have your resume updated, I think you are going to need it in about a week or so. Welcome to the unemployment club, now you can get on relief or whatever you seem to think is the catch phrase of the day is. Just leave, don't look back it might be a VERY angry MOB coming to find the A**holes who screwed up everything so badly, so they can through ya in Jail where you belong!

Run fast, run hard, don't ever look back we're coming for ya!

I am a VET and come from a military family

I have NO idea what you are talking about... Obama is a Patriot, (as is McCain) and to say otherwise is either ignorant or intended to mislead.

I have NEVER been very involved in politics and have even skipped off year elections... Until now... I have never been so excited, worried, or involved, and have never done as much research or given as much thought about my vote as with this election.

I voted for OBAMA/BIDEN and I am VERY proud to have done so.....

AnotherAverageJoe - If you have no idea what I am talking about, then you need to watch the video I mentioned in my second post. I don't know of any Veterans that would refer to someone who stands with their hands at their waist during out National Anthem as Patriotic. To state that my intention is to mislead when I have shown blatant evidence to the contrary attests to the fact that most Obama supporters are blinded by their 'Hope', and refuse to give any credibility to an argument against their candidate.

I watched the Video. I still don't know what your talking about. You try to make Obama out as something other than a Patriot, and in so doing you degrade your own Patriotism.

Or do you disagree with your own candidate? Do you think the republicans that are voting for Obama are not Patriots? How about Warren Buffet? Paul Volcker? How about the HUNDREDS of Generals that back Obama? How about the TENS of THOUSANDS of PROUD veterans such as myself? Are WE UN-Patriotic? How about Colin Powell? Do you disgree with Colin Powell about Obama's Patriotism?

If you are a VET??? You should know that the you put your hand on your heart for the pledge of allegience not the national anthem.

YOUR false indignation and avoidence of what your own candudate says (Namely That Obama IS a Patriot) to say NOTHING of the OBVIOUSLY Patriotism that Bama displays every day, and has for his whole life, and the OBVIOUS PATRIOTS that support him, smaSMACKS cks of partisan politics and as you put it "blinders" on in the name of politics.

Colin Powell said what I think in thaty regard and did so better than I can.

I am very worried the GOP will do something to the voting machines on the battle states,or do something dirty to win, like the time Bush won in Florida. Ohio has problems!I fear the machines are made by that republican guy who said he would do anything to get bush elected!

This country is still in GOP hands and the very rich dont want to pay taxes, so they will help GOP to do something dirty!

I don't know that we could say that one person, no matter who they are, can put this country back in the right direction.  There are so many obstacles in the way, so many different opinions on what is right and what is wrong.  I think what I would like to see, more than anything, is a leader who actually leads us.  Let's face it, we haven't had that, and our country is in turmoil because of it.  I wish we were a country that had no political parties because when I see what we have to choose from for our next leader it saddens me greatly.  How can it be that these are our choices?  No matter whom you choose, you are choosing a person that is questionable.  I'm not looking for Utopia, just for someone who will lead us, who will be able to make responsible decisions and have some common sense while not having so much controversy surrounding them at the same time.  That would be so very nice for a change.

Dian, BJs, the truth is that most Americans are too lazy to do much of anything.

IF McCain wins, even by recounts and court actions, there will be some blogging for a few days and not much more.  Americans did nothing in 2000 really.  Americans did nothing in 2004, really.  Americans won't do much more in 2008.  Too fat and lazy in general.  It's true.  Look around.  Bunch of whiners who refuse to make a sacrifice and who whine that they didn't understand their loans or credit card terms.

Makes me sick to my stomach.

Indeed, most Americans did little in 2000 and 2004, and this is why the dishonest are certain they can get away with it again.  I can't believe that there is any other explaination for the recurrant election problems, especially in Florida.  (Eight years later they sitll haven't fixed the problems?  That's not explainable by a software or chad problem - other states aren't having these recurrant problems.  tates can even go back to the old fashioned ways of paper ballots, so what else can explain it)? My hope is that because this time we are in dire need of change, and voting turn-out is going to be record breaking, people do care.  If there are problems there must be HUGE outcries.  Our voting rights are fundamental, and I'm worried because we have been seeing election problems already, yet many seem too unconcerned to demand accountability.  Everyone should be demanding accountability, now.
I guess I'm more than worried - I'm angery.  We need to take back our country, and it begins with our vote!  No matter who your choice,  your vote should count!

Liketoknow,  what scares me is that they put out a flyer in VA telling people that because of the big voting turn out, Reps would vote on the 4th and Dems on the 5th.  Then the college students from out of state were told that they can't vote at their school, or they could lose their scholarships.  What the Heck??   All our just more lies, we need to make sure every registered voter gets out there and votes.  And I just heard that Joe the Plummer, has now received an offer from a country music label.  God Bless America, now maybe he can afford to buy his business, and pay extra taxes when he makes the 250,000.  Sorry didn't mean to be sarcastic.

I am holding my breath until Election Day, because I fear that the RNC might do something to screw up the votes.

There has been VERY little coverage of the AIP ties!  Why? I don't understand that at all.  You might think it would at least make a good news story, but much more importantly, we should expect inquiry into our candidates, especially if they have close ties to something as un-American as the AIP.  This is more newsworthy than the $150,000 worth of clothing for Palin, don't you think?  I'm more concerned with what's in our leaders heads than on their backs.

Khalidi is an American citizen who holds degrees from Yale and Oxford. He has taught at The University of Chicago, Georgetown and Currently teaches at Columbia. The man founded a group that supports a peaceful resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He was even part of the Madrid Conference (on behalf of the American Government)

I feel good about the vote, I'm voting for Obama who I think will do a better job than McCain. It's Palin that is scary she is such a hypocrite and a airhead. She gives women a bad image and thinking process, and women have to fight every inch of the way to get equal to men and Palin is setting the progress women have made back 20 or more years.  Plus I think the democratic National Commitee (DNC) learned from there massive loss in 2004 and this time they picked the right person to run, Obama , to lead this country. Plus McCain will be a "lame duck" before he even gets started in a democratic Congress and Senate. Also McCains camp waffles to much from hour to hour ,State to State, name calling and putting the Race card in play without really saying it outright, just setting the seed for the race card and falsehoods in people minds who don't sit down and think it out in logical matter. Plus that time on the TV the GOP repremanded McCain for causing untrue panic among his supporters, so he had to correct those individuals publicly and he just hated doing that, but it was to late and to little. McCain does not really have a real platform to stand on, him and his airhead running mate change with the wind.
