People are just not willing to look backwards right now, The over all stakes are just to high!
In the dark hour at the onslaught of the economic crisis, Obama handled the 3a.m. call extremely better than McCain did, which was articulately explained by General Colin Powell, a REPUBLICAN and long-time friend of McCain, who is now endorsing Obama because he feels and has observed that Obama is not only more prepared, but also more of a leader than McCain in such crisis situations. If you haven't watched his endorsement yet, I'm sure you can find it on YouTube.
McCain / Palin = the Axis of Evil
After watching Palin rouse her rabble to shouts of KILL HIM and SIT DOWN BOY while she stood at the podium smirking I realized I now know two things I could have lived without knowing: 1. Palin is pure evil and 2. I know how decent people in WWII Germany felt.
Ethics and abuse of power investigations continue to pour in against Palin -- which is ok with the Repulbicans?
Their campaign is fear and hate based -- I can't stand it!
McCain is a rage-filled, unstable, entitled liar -- dehumanizing Obama -- dividing America -- not a leader THAT ONE
On the other hand -- Obama has demonstrated consistency; thoughtfullness; a brilliant, educated and flexible mind.
Obama is a unifier and a leader.
McCain/Palin are criminals and so are Bush/Cheney. I have a lot of fear around dirty tricks the Republicans will pull -- they think nothing of harming America and American people as long as it serves them.
I am therefore praying that God's wisdom and will guides this election. I do not pretend to know God's will but I have a hard time imagining God wants false Christians and evil liars to head up this country!
OBAMA / BIDEN '08
Big shocker that General Colin Powell would switch his support to Obama. Your "point" is insignificant.
kjack08:
How right you are.....and if something does happen mysteriously it will be because the reps have stirred something up as usual nothing they do surprises me.......we must all keep one eye open when it comes to the GOP
Like this Bush Doctrine II? What the he&* is up with that? Or the sneaking across Syrian ally lines...it is like they are trying to start something.
To Dian Larkin:
I know it's easy to feel that way after the shabby tactics the Repubs used in this campaign, but I think what makes Obama's candidacy so uplifting is that he tends to see the glass as half-full.
Sure, there are racists, lunatics and morons on both sides of the political fence (the ones on the far Right seem to rant the loudest and sound the meanest) but America could not have survived this long, with most of her systems intact and functional (sort of) if Americans didn't have the ability to rise above.
Personally, I probably would not vote for any ticket that included Sarah Palin unless the Democrats ran Ted Bundy against her...but I don't think she's "pure evil." Misguided, extreme, narrowminded, ambitious, ignorant, loud and terminally annoying, for sure, but I suspect in her heart of hearts, she also believes she's on the right track. Denial is more than a river in Africa, right?
With regard to pre-WWII Germany, thankfully we're a long, long way from where that society was in the '30s. Most of us still have jobs, prices for food and other staples are still manageable (if only just), and most importantly, we still have a voice.
Make sure yours is heard. Get out the vote (and don't forget to vote, yourself!).
I hear you acoustictherapy and respect your post
something about that woman absolutely terrifies me nontheless....
maybe it's the lying
maybe it's the $150K shopping spree
maybe it's the several fraud and abuse investigations against her after only a short time in office
but i really think it's the belief she exudes that she is someone above the law; that her personal ends are sanctioned by Jesus himself and justify all means....you could be right she lies to herself as much as to anyone else and from there springs her real danger
she really chills me to the bone -- like Hitler
as I say, I am sure lots of people discounted the entire hitler thing too -- it couldn't happen -- he means well -- decency will prevail -- etc -- the world and America are in for a rough ride and scary times are tailor made for evil people who exploit those situations
we've seen palin exploit the lower middle classes arleady -- play their fears and prejudices to her advantage and rabble rouse to hatred and violence against Obama
that's evil...sorry that's evil -- not to discount your perception or your reason which is all good
I am simply amazed that you would be so duped to believe that Palin is so evil but that Obama is nothing less than the "savior" of America. Speaking of being misguided, have you really swallowed the media's portrayal of Palin "hook, line, and sinker"? How dare you compare her to Hitler. It is people like you--on the extreme left, ranting and raving--which scares me. Letting our country be run by people like you or Obama brings new meaning to "watching history repeat itself." Sure, Bush has made some mistakes--thanks to the wonderful condition Clinton and crew left this country in--but no one seems to be wise enough to realize that. All I can say is pull your head out of the sands of ignorance, stop letting the media dictate how you think, and realize what true evil is. It is not Sarah Palin.
Palin's stupidity scares me too. She has never told anyone at her racist rallies to, "We don't talk like that, just vote for us." She hasn't rallied to McCain's side when he denounced those actions. I think if McCain campaign is promoting fear and loathing, then they're doing a disservice to the American public. You don't stoke the fires of fear, it brings out the ugliness in people.
I'm voting for Obama on election day, and he will win, and will be on the right side of history.
COMMENTARY: From Washington Times
The October surprise may turn out to be a seven-year-old interview with in which he strongly suggests that the U.S. Constitution is an impediment to his desire to redistribute the nation's wealth. How does Mr. Obama credibly take the oath of office to "preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States" when he thinks it impedes his socialist agenda?
Is socialism too strong a word? Consider one of its definitions from dictionary.com and tell me it is something other than Mr. Obama's economic philosophy: "A theory or system of social reform which contemplates a complete reconstruction of society, with a more just and equitable distribution of property and labor."
A complete restructuring of society is what Mr. Obama advocated in a 2001 interview on a Chicago public radio station. According to Politico.com, in that interview, Mr. Obama, "reflecting on the Warren Court's successes and failures in helping to usher in civil rights, said, "I think where it succeeded was to vest formal rights in previously dispossessed peoples." He has it backward. The Creator already endowed African-American people with these rights, which is precisely the argument powerfully made by the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Any rights that are "vested" in people by other people may be removed by the same or future people. Endowed rights are "unalienable" and what America did was to finally recognize those rights. The distinction is crucial because it also relates to abortion and many other social issues. If a court can take away the right to life, then no endowed right is safe.
Mr. Obama continues with a comment that the "Supreme Court never ventured into the issues of the redistribution of wealth and sort of basic issues of political and economic justice in this society, and to that extent as radical as people try to characterize the Warren Court, it wasn't that radical." Does he mean that for real "justice" to have been achieved, the Warren Court should have taken from the rich and given to the black poor? Mr. Obama never said what would happen once the redistributed money ran out. Perhaps this was not to be a one-time event, but a lifetime of "reparations" for slavery, as some other left-wing black leaders have proposed.
On Bill O'Reilly's Fox show Monday night, former Democratic vice presidential candidate Geraldine Ferraro defended high taxes in New York and Mr. Obama's pledge to raise them nationally, saying, "At least they're not taking it all." It may have been an attempt at humor, but this betrays the Democratic Party's attitude. They have the right to say how much of your hard-earned money you can keep. We should be telling government how much of our money we will allow them to spend. Anyone hoping to make more money and improve their lives will have to work even harder to overcome Mr. Obama's redistribution plans.
Mr. Obama thought the Warren Court should have "broken free" from the constraints placed on the Constitution and the courts by the Founding Fathers. This is remarkable hubris. Mr. Obama said the Constitution mostly "says what the states can't do to you... what the federal government can't do to you, but it doesn't say what the federal government or state government must do on your behalf." That's because the Constitution is about liberty and protecting citizens from oppressive and invasive government.
This is scary stuff. That it is only now surfacing is another reminder of the poor job the mainstream media have done in vetting Mr. Obama. Barack Obama thinks the Constitution and the country it helped create should be remade in his image. He wants to be a founding father of a different America, one that would bear little resemblance to the country we have known. This is radical in the extreme and Mr. Obama, along with his many acolytes who are itching to get their hands on unchecked political power, are a danger to this nation's survival. Listen to the interview: ().
John McCain stands in the way of a complete liberal coup that would transform America in ways the Founders and most Americans would oppose. Mr. McCain may be dull at times; he may have run an imperfect campaign; he should have spent more time exposing Mr. Obama as a radical socialist instead of worrying what the media would say if he did, but John McCain is a patriot who has proved his love, service and dedication to this country in ways Mr. Obama cannot begin to achieve or appreciate.
Electing Barack Obama president of the United States would be a roll of loaded dice. We will live (and possibly die) to regret it. Republicans have made many mistakes and deserve the punishment they are now getting, but the one charge that cannot be laid at their doorstep is that they wanted to rewrite the Constitution and weaken the country.
Mr. Obama will do that and more. Wake up, America, and stop flirting with this guy because you are flirting with potential disaster.
Cal Thomas is a nationally syndicated columnist.
there has been no investigative reporting done by the main stream media throughout this election so why would it start now. everybody knows that the drive by media will not report anything negative on the obama campain. look at the la times and the video they won't release, look at cnn and there bias reporting and the list goes on. americans go to the poles and cast your vote for socialisim, and hand outs if you want to. we all see how well that went for lbj. now we have millions of americans living of the goverment and refusing to work. oh by the way if you want to keep your 401k and everything you have worked hard for, cast your vote america. cast your vote!!!
just like most people of color, Powell sided w/ OSama. i would've expected much more from a general of the U.S. military! Check out Howard Stern's 'man-on-the-street' interview. they took mccain's policies, slapped OSama's name on them, and the people of color took the bait, hook, line and sinker! just proves once again, anyone can be a racist, even people of color. this is not now, nor has it ever been about race - people of color, OSama's camp are *making* race an issue! the issue is experience! OSama has none! 142 days in senate on someone else's coat tails! the issue is about national security! OSama is getting millions from terrorists! if he has nothing to hide, why doesn't he ***PROVE*** inconclusively that he is a bona fide American citizen?!? open his records to scruitiny by the public?!? if he's truly the person he claims to be, he should have nothing to hide. OSama is no messiah! wake up! America FOREVER, Obama NEVER!!!!!!
Ed from California are you that much of an idiot??? Obama taught Constitutional law after law school...an area he majored in. He is not a socialist just because he wants to respect the diverse people in this country. And if he is, so is PALIN because she "spreads the wealth" in Alaska with every man, woman and child through the permanent fund as she stated in the vice presidential debate. If you don't know what the he#$ you are talking about don't poste and spare the rest of us the crap.
Ed from CA: Just as expected you are using McCain's scare tactics. It worked in 2000 and 2004, but it is not going to work this time. McCain is far more scary a prospect in the real world. 2007-2008: According to Congressional Quarterly, John McCain voted with president Bush 100% of the time in 2008 and 95% of the time in 2007. Votes for this year were only available through May 15, 2008. CQ's Presidential Support numbers do not include votes that legislators miss - in other words, missing a vote on an issue Bush supported did not lower McCain's score. McCain misses many votes. In fact, he has missed more votes than any other Senator thus far in 2008. 2008: As of April 2008, McCain had at least 118 lobbyists running his campaign, including campaign manager Rick Davis — who lobbied for major telecommunications companies (for whom McCain has often intervened legislatively) — and senior adviser Charles Black — who was registered as a lobbyist for right-wing guerrilla leader Jonas Savimbi of Angola and such dictators as Ferdinand Marcos of the Philippines and Mobutu Sese Seko of Zaire. In May, the campaign dismissed several lobbyists and promulgated new rules for campaign workers. But McCain's reliance on corporate special interest lobbyists is so pervasive that his personal image continues to suffer.
According to the non-partisan FactCheck.org, "McCain's big promise is that he can balance the budget while extending Bush's tax cuts and adding a few of his own. He likes to leave the impression that this can be done painlessly, for example, by eliminating 'wasteful' spending in the form of 'earmarks' that lawmakers like to tuck into spending bills to finance home-state projects. We found that not only is this theory full of holes, it's not even McCain's actual plan." [FactCheck.org, 5/1
"McCain's talk about eliminating $100 billion a year in earmarks is largely fantasy. His advisers are now promoting a more realistic plan of eliminating $100 billion in overall spending. But it is difficult to take even that promise very seriously given the fact that the senator refuses to identify exactly which projects he will be cut. To use a phrase coined by George H.W. Bush, this is 'voodoo economics,' based more on wishful thinking than on hard data or carefully considered policy proposals." [Washington Post, Fact Checker Blog, 5/23/08: The McCain camp is attempting to persuade Americans that their taxes will increase dramatically with Barack Obama as president. The presumptive Republican nominee has repeatedly said that Obama would enact 'the largest tax increase since the Second World War.' A surrogate, former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina, insists that Obama has not proposed 'a single tax cut' and wants to 'raise every tax in the book'... Carly Fiorina is wrong to claim that Obama has proposed no tax cuts and wants to raise 'every tax in the book.' John McCain is on more solid ground when he claims that Americans from many different backgrounds could be affected by a rise in capital gains taxes, but he has greatly exaggerated the adverse impact." [Washington Post, Fact Checker blog, 6/11/08: stopthinkvote.com
The efforts a lot of conservatives put into trying to convince someone an Obama administration is something to fear just seems so damn exhausting, but I got to say that it's getting really exhausting to hear/read as well.
I've also got to say that even if some major news event revealed that Obama was an Alien, I seriously wouldn't care. It would STILL, in my opinion, be better than McCain. Even if, BIN LADEN himself, knocked on my door and said he had a coke and a cookie with Obama 20 years ago, I'd still be voting for Obama, because I'd just assume McCain promised him immunity from his impending death.
The more obnoxious the stories or scare tactics you bring, the more I'd be voting for Obama, to spite McCain and his supporters.
If this sounds ridiculous, trust me, the tired and played out crap heard from the GOP about Obama's associations, are even more so.
Just be done with it all already!
Obama/Biden '08
"Why of course the people don't want war. Why should some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece? Naturally the common people don't want war: neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country."
- Hermann Goehring
"Beware the leader who bangs the drums of war in order to whip the citizenry into a patriotic fervor, for patriotism is indeed a double-edged sword. It both emboldens the blood, just as it narrows the mind. And when the drums of war have reached a fever pitch and the blood boils with hate and the mind has closed, the leader will have no need in seizing the rights of the citizenry. Rather, the citizenry, infused with fear and blinded by patriotism, will offer up all of their rights unto the leader and gladly so. How do I know? For this is what I have done. And I am Caesar."
- Julius Caesar
Thanks for those quotes. I think it does a nice job of summing up what got us where we are today. It's rather amazing that we think these are different times and we are somehow better equiped but these quotes demonstrate human nature and our ability to be sucked in by our leaders. Sucked in even to an unprovoked war because of lies and errors of omission.
I pray for better days ahead. Days with a steadfast, critical thinking leader with the good of ALL the people in his heart.
GO OBAMA/BIDEN 2008. VOTE EARLY!
Very aptly done, Jon. And God does NOT say blessed are the war mongers who fill your hearts and minds with hate.............
He said "blessed are the peacemakers"!!!
And Jon I hope the McCain / Palin supporters are lining up to volunteer for the WWIII McCain / Palin will immediately get us into if -- GOD FORBID -- they are elected and allowed to start WWIII
McCain / Palin supporters get to go first!!!
Meanwhile, Obama, the educated, intelligent, calm, thoughtful one -- promises to find and kill Bin Laden
Obama will do what is necessary to protect America -- not more and not less
McCain loves war and the power he thinks it will give him -- Palin just loves power and the abuse of it
I'll take my chances with the educated, constitutional scholar
OBAMA / BIDEN '08
You are all right...shouting "WAR!" (on whatever) gets us nowhere and creates division right down to our rural towns. Barack Obama expresses peace and hope...big difference in morals, values and priorities here. There is even a small war amongst those in the McCain campaign including between McCain and Palin themselves.
I know kjack right?
Palin divided alaska (it was 50% for her and 50% against but as we see more and more Alaskana newspapers and groups are supporting Obama)
then Plain divided the country
now she has moved on to divide her own party and even her own campaign
and we want that in the white house?
not me -- no thanks
News stories are expected and will not impact the vote at this point I do not believe. The question I have is when all is said and done and folks are in the booth alone, just them and their ballot, despite all the hype, all the big talk, all the partisianship will the majority of America really push the button for Obama? Or in the saftey of that booth where no one will call them a racist, no will question there motives, no one will call them a sell out or call them names will they pick the option they know in thier heart is the best choice for these times. November 4th will tell us much about where America is heading.
Sam I have also wondered about the privacy of the voting booth
I believe deeply Sam that in the quiet of the voting booth people with McCain signs on their front yard.....
...will consider the hate and violence Palin and McCain have built their campaign on
they will consider that the winners in a McCain election are big oil, mega-corporations and NOT the middle class..again
..they will consider how Palin feeds on power and hate and fear like a spider feeds on the blood of its victim
they will think about the McCain divisivness -- how repbulicans and democrats now hate each other in this nation and they will wonder how that is in the country's best interests
they will think of how Palin awoke the sleeping monster that is the KKK and the neo-Nazis
they will consider whether Palin & Mccain's have acted with nobility or honor or with the interests of America and they will know McCain / Palin are anti-American
they will think of the rage and disrespect and even dishonesty McCain displayed at every single debate
they will remember at the debates how both Obama and his wife shook hands and talked with anyone in the room who wanted to talk to them or shake their hands and how Cindy McCain stood with her hands behind her back and she and McCain left the room
they will consider Joe the Pretend Plumber -- the lying fraud of a McCain plant and how McCain used Joe no less than 21xs in the debate leading to media investigation and exposure of Joe, and then McCain tried to blame Obama for this! When all Obama did was sincreely answer what he thought was a legitimate question from a legitimate citizen
they will realize that the tactics McCain used are designed to serve McCain / Palin in the short term and destroy America in the long term
they will consider all the abuse of power, ethics and fraud investigations against Palin; and the crooked deals McCain has been part of
they will remember that McCain voted with Bush 90% of the time and got us where we are today
they will consider how Palin lied about $150K of clothes purchased by the party -- her falsity posing in Wall Mart wearing $6,000 eyeglasses
they will consider how Palin played America -- winking -- posing -- refusing to answer legitimate questions -- inappropriately sexualizing her candidacy and cheapening the office she runs for -- her inabiltiy to string a few words together into a coherent sentence EXCEPT when she is rousing the rabble to hate and fear against Obama with lies or with truths so mangled they become lies
they will consider that McCain used the financial crisis as a cheap PR stunt
they will think of McCains health care that will result in a middle class with less health insurance and think of Obama's promise to make health insurance companies provide health insurance
they will think of Obama's promise to find and kill Bin Laden and McCain's threats to start more confused and pointless wars at the expense of the nation's education, elder services, community and school sports programs, and even our food -- without farm subsidies how will we have affordable or sufficient food?
they will realize the Plain's DRILL BABY DRILL serves Alaska and BIG OIL and America not at all b/c we already have oil backed up for 10 years in refineries - we don't need more oil right now we need to refine what we have and develop renewalbe sustainable long term energy solutions -- all DRILL BABY DRILL DOES is kill polar bears and line the pockets of big oil and Alaskans
they will think of these things and more in the quiet privacy of the voting booth
and they will think of how Obama consistently handled himself with grace and dignity -- gave thoughtful and complete answers to every question asked of him -- how Obama is already lining his cabinet with the best and brightest from both sides of the aisle
they will realize that Obama's breaks for the middle class will serve this country
and they will surprise themselves
they will vote Obama
and they will know they did the right thing for themslevs and for America!
OBAMA /BIDEN '08
Dian,
Â
Your post is absolutely dead on..One of the best I've seen and read..Thank you for your thoughtfulness
Dain, that is very well written, you know what else i noticed if you look at the back ground in McCain crowed there were not any black people and if there were there are just a few, where as in Obama campaign convention they have every one of every color there you know, what does that say about Palin/McCain?
My guess is that they preach so much hate the only ones it attracts is the Neo-Nazi and the KKK.
I just received and e-mail from my friends who attending the rallies this week to check out both candiates. My friends attended both a McCain rally and a Obama rally, and came home yesterday to share the experience with me. They were so amazed how many different walks of life came to the Obama rally. Old, young, poor and rich, (a few homeless people came out) and a see of different colored faces making up what the real America is. It was a happy and peaceful event. A few booed, when Obama talked about McCain's failed policies. A lot of people hushed them. Obama caught wind and told them, "Don't boo, just vote." He's been saying that at all his rallies. It's a nice way of handling the situation.
When they went to a McCain rally, they were so suprised how negative it was. They thought the "liberal" press were giving McCain rallies a bad rap, until they saw it for themselves. Racist slurs spread through the crowd, and shouting out racist comments, but not loud enough for Palin or McCain to hear it. It's interesting, how much is getting away with at his rallies. I guess, the ugilness got to them, and with McCain talking points, it didn't make much sense for them to endorse McCain. They weren't surprise to see a spanish and afro-american people, hanging around. But my friends felt badly for them. What if you're a Republican and you're middle of the road, and you hear that hateful rethoric?
I'm glad they looked at both sides of the candiates, read up on their ideas and policies and walked into their enviroments and listened to them at their rallies. My friend Sal, said "You watch the desperation when a war hero, such as Senator McCain is pandering to the KKK and the racist. The crowd made me ill, but we were determined to listen to his message, and it fell flat among the hostile crowd."
We are a nation of diversity. I'm happy to share this information with all of you.
The Republicans do seem to have an air over over confidence this week that is unsettling. This LA Times Video is a joke. They have known about it since April, but I guess it slipped their mind to "DEMAND" the tape until now. Just another way to play on Americans fears. It is really sad how the Republicans have come full circle. Get back to your core principals please. You have showed us a side of your party that I wish you could put back. Where oh where have the moderates gone?
Sam- 519858,
Are hatred, bigotry, racism, elitism, apathy and selfishness what reside in YOUR heart? If they are, then PLEASE vote for McPain. Those who think like you will vote like you. But there must certainly be more people with goodness and compassion in their hearts who would naturally support Obama, guaranteeing an Obama victory.
No they don't nor do I believe for a vote for McCain represent those things. I just have doubts that when push comes to shove the Obama numbers will not be what they appear to be today. Compasion is great, goodness is needed but goodness and compasion at a federal level cannot come at a price tag that is much to bear and cannot dictate the actions of the US internationally. Lots of people say they are willing to help the poor in public but divert their eyes to the beggar. The fact is that people do not want to be forced to equalize the nation financially they want to do so on thier own terms. What do I know though I am just a small town guy who clings to my guns and religion and the belief that I can do as much or as little as I set my own mind to.
a vote for McCain = a vote for evil and corrosive division and hatred
McCain / Palin = the Axis of Evil
no decent person can vote for them Sam!
While the majority of needy voters, who do nothing and contribute in no way to the economy, may vote for the O to increase the amount of CHANGE they get handed to them. Those of us who are self sufficient, self reliant and in no need of a handout from the government will vote McCain.
Personally, I am most certainly self sufficient. All the people I know who are voting for Obama are also self sufficient. Obviously, there are quite a few self sufficient and even wealthy people who have thrown and are throwing their money at the Obama campaign. Because when it comes down to it, we want this war to end, because the violence and death is futile, and billions of dollars are being wasted. And because, the good at heart care for their brothers and sisters, both literal and figurative, whether they are haves or have-nots.
I've pointed out before -- I live in Chappaqua NY and it is one of the wealthiest towns in the country and it is voting Obama
I drove to Wilton CT for an event this weekend -- incredibly wealthy area -- many more Obama signs than Chaos signs
I am self-sufficient and educated
the majority of Americans are self-sufficient not on welfare not crackheads etc. and the majority is voting Obama
so now what do say to justify your vote for chaos, divisivness, a war machine, hatred and more of the same as we got from Bush?
p.s. all my friends are highly educated and all of them are self-supporting
actually i do not know even one person on welfare
and everyone I know is voting Obama -- if they weren't -- where i live anyone who wanted to vote McCain would keep quiet about it
Right on Dian. People like justwantitover are prime examples of a study that shows that when one feels a loss of control, he or she will come to non-sensical conclusions that have no concrete corroboration. The easiest thing to spot---how does Obama's campaign have so much more money than McCain's? Of course, there are some low income people who scrimp to donate to the cause--a very noble action--but the majority of this money is coming from Middle class and upper middle class, educated and intelligent people who whole-heartedly support his policies. Period.
I know Diane all your friends say they will vote for Obama, And should he lose they will still say they voted for Obama. But I am not so sure they actually will vote for Obama. Time will tell
Well Dian, k-madison....I really hope u get your wish and your saviOr gets elected to bring peace to the world, end unemployment, educates all, give health care to all (citizen or not) and spread the wealth.
I DON"T CARE! BOTH CANDIDATES STINK! O's a man who's done nothing but sell himself! McCain's and old clown who's been around too long. Serving Senators should not be allowed to take time off, at our expense, to run for a new position! Step down or serve term elected for then run for upgrade.
I will do one thing when O gets elected! Close my biz and retire early to finally take that long vacation I keep putting off.
Good luck with him, he'll cost me nothing.
Well said. Obama's 30 min. infomercial moved me to tears. He is a real person just like us whose actions and thoughts parallel those of TRUE AMERICANS. Hope the government doesn't screw him once he gets elected like they did JFK... This is in response to "Turtledude" so no one's confused!
For the person above who quoted:
"McCain / Palin = the Axis of Evil"
I find that odd since most of us conservative christians are voting for McCain/Palin..even those of us who are feeling finacial strain, because we believe issues like abortion are important.
No confusion here Donna. I understood you.
What do we REALLY know about Obama?--he scares me
What do we really know about Ms. Palin (other than the fact that she has abused her power)???? She REALLY scares me!!!!
We know McCain is happy to use America's suffering to his own ends as he did when he used the financial crisis as a cheap PR stunt
we know fraud, abuse of power, ethics investigations come up nearly daily about Palin and that her husband acted as an unelected co-governor who got paid by her administration for providing child care to his own kids
we know that she pretended to be 'just like us' when in reality she had just had a $150K make over on someone else'e dime -- posing at Wall Mart in her $6,000 eyelglasses
we know that Palin is capable of rousing rabble to shouts of KILL HIM and SIT DOWN BOY while she stands there smirking -- Obama we know would never incited that or tolerate it at one of his rallies
We know that Obama is highly educated and McCain / Palin are both uneducated
We know that in the one VP debate Palin refused to answer questions and in her few TV interviews she lied and twisted the truth to suit her and was otherwise completely incoherent
We know that Palin is for BIG OIL and lies and says she is not
We know that McCain in all 3 debates could not contain his rage -- not a stable man -- and that he is incredibly disrespectful -- McCain = not a leader THAT ONE
We know that Obama is a unifying force and McCain / Palin are a divisive force
We know that Obama acts consistently calm and thoughtful and McCain is erratic as is Palin
We know Obama will help the middle class and McCain is more of the same old same old breaks for the big oil, the health insurance companies and megao-corporations and hope some of it trickles down to the middle class
Is there something else you need to know TC?
OBAMA / BIDEN '08
I agree Carol
Palin is a Nazi that much is clear
she terrifies and disgusts me both
Ok we get it already you hate Sarah Palin and John McCain, geez talk about them spreading hate and smear. Maybe you should practice what your preaching here. Do you have a personal agenda here or are you on Obama's payroll?
People who blindly question their trust in Barack Obama...make comments like, "what do we really know about Obama," or "if it looks like a duck," etc., are subconciously racist, or are trying to camoflauge their racism.
"What do we REALLY know about Obama?--he scares me"...we know he seems to be a real smooth talker.
And for the person who said that people who don't trust Obama are subconsciously racist? A. I take offense to that and B. My neighbor and close friend is black and she can't stand the man.
That said, what do we really know about McCain? If you believe all the hype of him being a war hero - you're as gullible as many. Do some research on his military record, it's not as pretty as he would have you believe. Check this site for starters: www.vietnamveteransagainstmccain.com and learn some real facts. McCain is no war hero, why do you think he was given the nickname "SONGBIRD" (and it wasn't because he could carry a tune). The thought of McCain & Palin in the Whitehouse scares the sh*t out of me.
DianLarkin = you've hit the nail right on the head. I couldn't have said it better. God help us all if the Republicans win the Whitehouse!!
OBAMA/BIDEN 2008/2012
Debbie-261933
I am so glad for your post. I also have checked out McCains war history and wish more people would do the same. He is no war hero that's for sure. I just hope and pray that people do the right thing next Tue. and vote for change, and not the color of someones skin.

During this campaign, the Democratic Party has lied to the American public time and time again and the MSM has been complicit by ommision of the facts. DEMOCRATS ARE RESPONSIBLE for defending FANNIE MAE's and FREDDIE MAC's practices and of bullying the markets into making risky loans to UNQUALIFIED individuals. THERE IS MORE TO COME, I guarantee it... THAT is why Obama is so hot on the idea of early voting.
By the time we are though, the lies, deception and ommisions of the Dems, the Obama campaign and the MSM will make Watergate look like a tea party. And the mask of the Great Deceiver Obama will - at long last - be peeled away.
'A government big enough to give you everything you want,
is strong enough to take everything you have.' ~Thomas Jefferson
Anyone who can love Joe is a m***n!
at least someone got it rite.. why are their so many lemmings in america? how can obama suporters talk about racism and bigotry have they not seen what the great rev. wright was preaching. that church is a hot bed of racism and bigotry have they all forgot already. do you remember the things you learned in your life the things that shaped you after 20 plus tears can obama forget it in one statement of denial? not.. do people not know that it is congress and senate that runs this country and the president is more of a fall guy for them in many respects. please GOD save our country.
It was actually George Bush who encouraged F & F to loan to low income people. He even said that they could have a house that was even more than they could normally afford.
Ilovejoetheplummer,
You are mistaken about Fanni Mae and Freddie mac, the fact that it is constantly brought up that Obama was instrumental in the failure of the banking system is a crock, the fact that loan were made to people that could not afford them is only half true, I see people that come into my office and want to cry because the did not know that the mortgage payment was going up the 70% and they had not read the agreement completely before they signed it and they were not told the complete cost of there home and the realtor had convinced them that they could get it with not money down because every home he sold he got a big commission, before they would realized they could not make the payments because it had reset therefore mortgage payment would increase from $1500 a month to $$3500 a month, they would fall behind in there house payments. Now that is closer to the truth than the way it is told over, and over that the low income people bought more house than they could afford, tell that to the family that just lost there home yesterday because they could make the payments they could handle them OK until they reset to a higher price.
TC...... Bush should have scared you......if you REALLY want to get to know Obama...... there is plenty of information out there.....just read
Pakistan and Syria or whereever else; I wouldn't put anything past the GOP to play the real FEAR CARD again!!
Dear Joe the plumber fan...............what are you afraid of? The biggest deciever was Bush........he really pulled the wool over your eyes..........and Palin and McCain have made a great case for the same..... and remember you are blaming only one party you have forgotten how much of a majority is need to pass laws which mean Rep. had a part in it toooo!
So before you start pointing fingers..........lets tell all the facts.
The Democrats are liars, what the blazes are the GOP, how the h did we get into IRAQ, why are the Exxons oil companies still making massive profits? Yep, the Democrats are liars -- How Palin can stand and stir the evil she is based on untruths amazes me. Play the video of Obama but also print the story of McCain providing a million dollars to this same person a few years ago. Funny, McCain can associate with these people but Obama can't. McCain even received money from the Fannies - check the facts on both sides then make a judgement. I have never before voted a straight ticket but this time I Have and I pray to God more Americans will think outside the box we have been kept in the past 8 years. Joe the plumber is a phoney and a pathetic creature for representation of the average American then again it fits with the average Utahn
Why do you criticize Joe the P so much? O was in Joe's area he didn't travels miles to find him. He just asked O a simple question looking for his opinion. Well your man O just let his true feelings out with his answer probably wishes now he never answered, too late now, but due to his answer you constantly question and criticize Joe. Grow up your man O just spoke without thinking. Face it the truth hurts!
I am with you JennyW, and check this out...justwantitover says, "Face it the truth hurts"? How much more ignorant and immature can we get than that? Joe needs to be criticized because he is a loser just like this justwantitover whose name reflects their shallowness and laziness. It takes guts for Obama and Biden to stand up for even people like these idiots who don't even realize how really ignorant they are.
kjackazz08 ... Guaranteed I've worked more than you ever will. I'm self employed I put in over 60 hours a week and have been doing it for over 25 years. I work for myself, my family and my friends. I pay taxes to take care of all the lazy, Dem's and Rep's, who want to be taken care of by the Government. Grow up! Government should only be there to protect not to babysit.
justwantitover
I have work all my life until i suffered a stroke, at that time i had good medical coverage or at least i though i did them when i had to go to rehab, that's when the fun really started I'll cut to the chase if it were not for the government programs i would still be sitting in my chair waiting, i am a Democrat and i am glad i had a government program to help me.
tabhi...sorry you had I stroke, hope you're doing better....sorry you had bad insurance, and it covered no cost for rehab...not all policy's are great. They're like woman, you really have to search for a good one.
I had a major operation almost 20 years ago, spent about a month in the hospital for testing and surgery, cost over 1/2 a million. My insurance covered all but the first $1000. I needed no help from the government. The insurance company cancelled the policy 5 years after starting it, they were losing too much money. I went uninsured for two years till I found another good plan. It's hard to find coverage with a pre-existing condition unless you wealthy and that's one thing I'm not.
justwantitover: I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I work more hours that just 60 a week as I have more than one job. I am a single mother of 4 with a master's in criminal justice working for the government and I pay taxes too, the world does not revolve around you I am afraid and I am telling you guaranteed you are a selfish idiot who is not going to get a pity party from me. So perhaps you should get over it and stop throwing your negative energy at everyone else.
Joe The Plumber was a plant by the republican party and may be related to Charles Keating. Remember the Keating 5? Joe The Plumber is not really even a plumber, owes back taxes, and thinks McCain is the better candidate? Now the guy is traveling around with McCain? You people are scary!
Christine, Obama was in Joe's neighborhood not being stalked or planted like you want to believe. Joe simply asked a question and O's answer backfired on him! Causing the investigation for dirt, buy O's party and supporters, on a man in a crowd who asked a simple question. Little scary if that's any sign of investigations to come. All of O's supporters need to grow up.
Kjacks08- I never said the world revolves around me! Nor do I need pity from anyone! I lost my only child 30 years ago and have always worked and taken care of myself. I care only for my family and friends and will do anything for them. I don't need and will never take any form of assistance or handouts from the goverment.
Besides I really don't care who gets elected, I had no vote in the primary, so neither of them would be my choice. Senators don't know how to run anything but useless committees. I just know history and so far, might be wrong this time, every time one party's controled everything it goes bad. There will be no checks and balance, and that is a necessity!
McCain's campaign and his supporters have been disgusting throughout this entire campaign. And Obama's supporters need to grow up? I think those who live in glass houses should not throw stones. Joe the Plumber had already given a campaign contribution to McCain BEFORE he met with Obama. Get the facts and stop throwing stones.
Looks like most of the people who have read and taken this poll are Obama supporters no matter what, too bad. Though I do not fully support McCain, Obama will say anything you want to hear to get elected. He is for whatever is important to whomever he is talking to. (Reminds me of Clinton.) Go back and look at things he has said from the beginning until now...the list of contraditions, half truths and lies is a long one. Mr. Obama will promise anything to anyone, and everything to everyone. He'll be whatever you want him to be to get the power. I love the quote from Thomas Jefferson in a previous post because it is absolutely true.
Another thing I keep hearing is that Pres. Bush caused all of the mess we are in today, that is so rediculous it's laughable. One man is not responsible for the state of our country, good or bad. Better go look at the bills passed and voting records of your congress members and the judgements set forth by the courts of this land. Also you better go back and look at the mess that Clinton left, all the records are public and very easily accessable. Too bad that people don't educate themselves more on the facts before making such large, life changing decisions. Also, too bad people don't take responsibility for their own actions and decisions past and present. If you want change, tighten your belt, live within your means, improve your work ethic, go for honesty and integrity, reach out and help those around you, check your greed, etc., etc. Stop blame shifting and own up! Stop believing everything you read in the news and check out the facts for yourself before you vote!
McBush and Miss Dummie have been bought by BIG OIL. Remember how Bush manufactured evidence to target Iraq? I see McNasty resorting to the same Ol' Republican tricks. Fear mongering to get your kids to go and die in Iraq. Did you forget how unfaithful McSame was to his first wife? You want someone like that as our President?! He published it in his own book. I was in the Marines, believe me no one in my unit wanted to be there because the REAL threat is Bin Laden in Afghanistan. That is where the surge should have happened. That is where we thought we were going to fight this war on terror. Unfortunately, volunteering to serve binds you to an oath of honor to support and defend the constitution and take orders from the current President- dumbass Bush. Iraq was manufactured to raise the price of a barrel of oil so CEO fatcats could take every dollar you had saved up for college, food, or insurance and leave you penniless.
Bush simply used the same evidence on Iraq, after the 9/11 attack, that your man Clinton used to take out the babyfood factory. Maybe he figured Clinton was correct and simply hit the wrong target. The senate agreed with Clinton when he dropped bombs. Biggest difference was Bush took it to the UN to get approval not just strike to take attention away from his activities. Clinton took other military actions too, remember Somalia and Kosovo? Both where for no reason, both were no real concern of ours and both cost US lives! All for no reason.
What an election year! Have you forgotten what you have already sacrificed during the last 8 years? How many troops have died? How many people died in the 9/11 attacks? What did you gain from this from the Repuplicans? Were we not so frenzied up for blood that we gave up our freedom by passing this crazy Patriot Act that allows Bush and his cronies the right to evesdrop on our emails and phones? If the Republicans get into the white house again I guarantee you another 'Red Scare' in America and they will begin a witch hunt against anyone they see a threat. They have started with the illegal immigrants because xenophobia in white suburbia wants to maintain control of the 'lower class'. Did you know the surviving family members of the Twin Towers tried to sue the telecomm companies? Bush gave these telecomm execs a 'Get out of Jail Free' card in order to release the records of communications between terrorist cells operating in America and around the world. These companies did not report these criminals to the CIA or police because they paid their phone bills on time. CORPORATE FUC-ING GREED. They asked Bush for protection from the lawsuit and he pardoned them. Survivors got zero $$
yes ponchestrada -- like yourslef I look forward to the return of my constitutional rights under Obama
no the other hand McCain / Palin promise to further pervert and subvert the constitution .... God willing they will not get their hands on my constitution...
and thank you also jenny W for good posts
To Jon-296837:
Well put. Your quotes hit the nail on the head.
I'd like to add one more, if I may. It's a bit overused by now but still as meaningful as on the day it was uttered:
"We have nothing to fear, but fear, itself." - Winston Churchill
And one last one: “if all you run is negative attack ads you don’t have much of a vision for the future.” - John McCain, 2000
I ask all true Americans to let their conscience guide them and vote who you feel will be the best president for this time. Let's not bring in race, prejudices, etc. Again, I will say as I said last year this time that we would not have this discussion if Barack Obama was white. Some people are so prejudice that they would choose to vote for an old, mean and divisive "marverick" than to vote for a n***er! Get real. We all know that McCain is incompetent and is not presidential material. He has divided his own party. A true leader brings people together, not break them apart. Please let's vote for what is best for this country not our own ideologies. This white woman is voting for the Obama/Biden ticket! YES WE CAN and I WILL!!!
Again..the race card..this is craziness. Why can't I have the right to align myself with the candidate I feel has the better moral standards..and by moral standards..I'm not getting into the war arguement....I'm talking here in the US. Abortion, stem cell research, and you know what..I listened to what Palin had to say about the school system. As a parent of a special needs child..she didn't sound clueless at all, in fact, she sounded like she had been in our home. She recognized the problem with the schools...I was offended to see Obama on TV stating that it was the parents responsibility. I know what my responsibilities are, and the school system failed my child, we homeschool now.
I will be voting for who I feel is best, and you know what, my best friend will as well. She is black and a heavy McCain supporter. It's not about race at all. Not only would we have this discussion if Obama were white, we already did. Let me remind you of the phrase.."Kerry is scary"
I've already voted. Obama is the man to lead out out of this hole we're in and most of my friends have their minds made up, too. McCain is throwing out all kinds of crap now...hoping something sticks. Too late.
justwantitover,
My father and mum have been working over 6o hours a week for the last 60 years, yes he has been out on his own since he was 16..
My parents raised 8 children with no health care so he could cover his constuction workers in his own business.
My dad is a veteran that wasn't home to seee his only son born..
My parents taught us all to work hard.. and most of us own our own business's and pay a lot of taxes .. as do our children now..
My dad told me he cant stand to watch McCain .he had respected him as a fellow veteran but now he feels that he is a liar and will say anything to win!!! .. Dad really admires Senator Obama.. and so does my Mum.. My brother has passed over but all of us children are voting for Senator Obama.. We have already done this by absentee ballets ..
So it doesnt matter what dirty tricks the Republicans try.. I do believe that alot of America has already done this... and that Senator Obama will be our next president...
We want a better life for our children..We want to see our parents live longer rather than stress about all of their children and grandchildrens welfare and jobs and businesses under the idiot Republicans.
We want a president that is intelligent, thoughtful and kind... who wont lie our country into a war that has cost us over 4000 of our bravest heros, who wont lead a party of thieves who have left this country in such a shambles that all of us are so stressed that our health is suffering.
How anyone can listen to Sarah Palin and not realize what a nighmare she would be for America is beyond me.. how you can watch McCain be all over the map with our financial crisis and not realize that he just doesnt know what to do.. is also a mystery to me..
The world is watching us and they are also praying that America has more people that are intelligent and thoughtful enough to overlook the color of a persons skin to pick the best President .
Republicans should be embarressed in who they put into the white house for the last 8 years.!
I will leave you with this quote....
Great Spirits have always encountered violent opposition from Mediocre Minds!
Albert Einstein.......
Die Hard Republicans.. do you recognize yourselves????
Given the current financial mess, I am not sure if Obama will be able to come thru with all that he is promising. But I think he is smart enought to get things moving in the right direction, and forthcoming enough to tell the public what can and cannot be done. If elected I hope he communicates more frequently with the public than Bush, who had what 3 or 4 live addresses to the nation in 8 years? Where is FDR, and those "fireside chats" when we need him? Biden believes the next president may face an international challenge right away. Seems like Bush is trying to make that prediction come true by crossing the Syrian border. What a nice parting gift from the worst president since Fillmore. I am tired of the republican strategy of protecting the corporations, letting their lobbyists write legislation and telling everyone else to pull themselves up by their bootstraps. If you are one of the millions living from paycheck to paycheck, you can't afford boots. "Trickle-down" economics has been a disaster. The middle class is getting "trickled" on, all right, and the richest 1 percent and the corporations are doing the trickling, and laughing the whole time. If McCain is elected, it will be a happy day for bin Laden, whose aim is to destroy us financially. The WTC attacks pale in comparison to what we've done to ourselves. Osama must be jumping for joy right about now. McCain will keep bleeding us dry for years in Iraq, and take us closer to complete insolvency. Let's turn this ship around and get away from the whirlpool of destruction that's dead ahead.

If something does occur, I'm confident Obama will handle it better than McCain.
