The context depends on who wins. If Obama loses, it will be perceived (perhaps correctly) that the race was stolen using fear and division
I think if Obama is elected, it may ease tension some. However, I don't expect it to be a magic bullet that will solve all the problems surrounding race in this country.
Wow that was good, www.hypemovie.com Maybe we can share it with these folks.
that's smear movie put out by the republicans do watch it
African-Americans can now see themselves as equals in our European based culture.
I agree with trm2008... there are still too many ignorant people in this country that will not be swayed by the election of Obama.
Let's hope they die off earlier than the rest of us and we can move forward with those people who matter.
ummm lets see john mccain an adulterer millionaire who only cares about the rich and his own greed his track record is one of no compassion but that of greed.........his wife was to disfigured so he dumped her in a time of need to get with a blond bombshell....he was born in panama therefore he really shouldnt even be running for president in this country according to the constitution...............
not only does his own party not like him now bu he has ran one of the sleaziest campaigns ever........old and out of touch and God forbid something happens to him if elected you have minni mouse thats going to take over....who thinks the whole world is alaska
and his track record with bush for the last 8 years speaks enough of itself no i do not want the robbers shadow in the whitehouse because he is just going to finish what bush couldnt
he hasnt given me a reason to think otherwise
Hey ED from CA, as an inconsiderate propaganda spammer....you do a fantastic job showing the quality and character of your candidates and their campaigning. Keep cutting & pasting your message where ever you go....its not even necessary to read it, a strong urge to vote against McCain/Palin is felt just in response to people like you!
Talk about propaganda, the cut and paste above is about the only sanity of this post. Really, calm down and READ it.....and cut the hostility. We get enough of that from the press.
VOTE SMART
I agree with James4Obama, I would also like to add that McCain, during his P.O.W status was better known as Songbird McCain. Because he alone caused thousands of Marines to die, by giving the enemy military intelligence. McCain, only refused too come back to the U.S because he was ashamed and felt guilty for all the lives he was responsible for. Upon McCain's return and as recent as August 08, his favorite line "I didn't love America, until I missed her company."
Then McCain selected his VP. Introducing Gov. S. Palin, whom first dude was a member of AIP "Alaska's Independent Party" they want to denounce America. Even though Gov. Palin wasn't a member her last appearence in Aug. 08 as well gave a speech at the AIP convention. Now I wonder who should Americans really trust?
Gov. Palin, as mayor of Wassilla didn't perform her job duties, she hired an administrator to execute her job duties as mayor. $50,000.00 worth. Wow, some experience all three Bush, McCain and Palin went too school and didn't learn squat. All of that money wasted on education.
Ed from Ca, before you write so much BS you should actually research your facts and save your breath. If you would've done that in the first place, I wouldn't have thought a poll like this would be neccesary . Let me guess, you are part of the majority of the uneducated or senior citizen type that is against Barack Obama? And they want to run a poll to see if race relations will be impacted. There's your answer. Not until some American's get an education and the older people that have been raised, or raised their own children to practice hate are wiped off the earth, then race will no longer be an issue.
Well, I guess I should read more liberal newspapers and get brain-washed like you. Where on Earth did you get your propaganda?
Speaking of speeches, how about Obama's about his friend, Palestinian activist Khalidi ....Can we see some facts on that, or you can just make em up for us! How about the LA Times release the video?
Wow, had you not heard! McCain gave this same guy over $430,000.00. So, I think that needs to be explained first don't you? And once you are strong enough to dig yourself out of denial, maybe there will be sunshine.
PURE BS....Don't believe it!!!! I'm done here....I hope you all live happily ever after....But don't blame me, I'm just trying to talk some sence into you! Blame Bush, after all he is going be the standard excuse when Obama's empty promises don't work! MARK MY WORDS.
GOD BLESS AMERICA!
Texas,
Get your facts straight. He did not give Khalidi a dime. McCain is a chair for the International Republican Institute’s. "In the 1990s, IRI gave grants to the Center for Palestinian Research and Studies (CPRS) for polling in the West Bank/Gaza. The polls measured support for the peace process, for various Palestinian political groups, and for efforts to enhance governance in the West Bank/Gaza. At that time no other organization could credibly conduct polling in the West Bank/Gaza.
THE ONLY CONNECTION HERE IS THE WORD "PALESTINIAN"....Get is straight!
WHAT DID OBAMA SAY IN THE VIDEO???? The left-wing press is protecting that. WAKE UP AMERICA!
Wow Ed from CA. Was that a post or your resume to Fox News ?
dirtbound, very well put ! I couldn't of said it better myself.
2.1 deleted; you coulda just linked to it, Ed from CA-598199.
Yes it has already enlightened alot of people........I thank it will be great not only for this country but the world....................that not just some people but all people no matter race or creed can acheive greatness to me that would be the message here..... and what better place then America to portray such an accomplished feat that the world can see.....we will always have racist they help make the world go around....but what this shows is not even racism can stop a GOOD thing
Chris Matthews expressed it plainly and sensibly...
If there are still people unwilling to vote for Obama simply because he is a black man, they need to explain what more they want from him.
Barack Obama has shown us that he is intelligent, hard working, has always tried to do "the right thing", has spent his entire career helping his fellow man. He is a good father and a devoted husband.
Isn't that the criteria we look for in every citizen?
Aren't those the qualities that we base our opinion of a person on?
Barack Obama has met our criteria.
If that isn't enough, then what more does anyone want of him?
This is precisely why the personal attacks of John McCain, Sarah Palin, and the hard-right Republican machine are so dispicable. They have done everything in their power to denegrate a good man and besmirch his character. I strongly feel that slinging mud says more about the ones throwing it than it says about their target.
John McCain lost all the respect I had for him in the past when he selected Sarah Palin (country first... yeah right) and when he slithered into the same reprehensible tactics that were used against him in 2000 by Rove and Dubya.
We want more experience from Hussein! We also want some of his relationships scrutinized to the extent that they would be for any other candidate for President...is that too much to ask? Just because a person speaks well doesn't mean they are qualified to be President.
People want Hope and Obama is selling it with Change as his drum, and they are willing to put into a man and soon they may discover that no Man can deliver Hope to anyone. The Bible says man cannot live without Hope in His heart. But Hope only comes from an intimate relationship with Ones creator. I realize this is a political blog but this Hope that everyone is looking for is neither of the two guys running for office.
Hope is a commodity that Obama does not have to give. Hope is only found in Christ. I admit it is a useful tool of manipulation that he wheels with finesse. But he is deceived as well as the buyer of His Goods. The Blind lead the blind and both are falling into the ditch. If you are looking for true Hope don’t go looking for it in a candidate but look for it In Him Jesus Christ
definition of hope:
If I ever doubted Obama's christianity it is no longer a question for me. The bible says,"You shall know them by their fruit." It was speaking about the fruit of the Holy Spirit. Love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and termpeance. Galatians 5:22-23. I have seen all of these qualities in Sen Obama and displayed by his campaign in general. There is another list in the bible of those not lead by the right spirit. I have not seen that list portrayed in Sen Obama's camp but in Sen McCains. Strife, adultery, fornication, hatred, variance, wrath, seditions, envyings and heresies. verse 19-20. There is more to being a CHRISTIAN than being against abortion. It's supposed to be how you live your life everyday. Through this whole campaign and all the he has been accused of Sen Obama has shown temperance and all of the other qualities listed in the bible and McPalin have not for all of their protestations. Sen Obama has earned my respect and my vote.
No, they just want some more free goverment money!!
I not too sure about it though, they way they are talking down his lead in the polls....no one expected a black man to come this far.
Ed that is soooo true they are both sellng the same thing change but if a man has God in his heart and puts God first God through him can give that change
My Christian Brothers, Please reconsider your vote for Obama. Christ is for life and especially for the life of the innocent defenseless child that has no Voice. Please reconsider your vote and choose life. Isaiah 26:3, Deuteronomy 30:18-20
My God is not a republican. I believe Christ would be so disappointed in the republican agenda of destroying the earth, lying and cheating to win, war, racism, hatred, etc. It is so sad to me. New Testament is Christs teachings. If you disregard it you are not a "Christian".
Democrats have strong Faith, same as republicans.
with all of the other issues at hand you are choosing abortion as your main voting point! that truly is blind....
the subject of abortion is not going to end a war, bring jobs, save your house or job, or fix anything else with the country. all it will do is DENY somone 14th ammendment right:
The Fourteenth Amendment (Amendment XIV) to the United States Constitution is one of the post-Civil War Reconstruction Amendments, first intended to secure the rights of former slaves. It was proposed on June 13, 1866, and ratified on July 9, 1868.
The amendment provides a broad definition of citizenship, overruling Dred Scott v. Sandford which had excluded slaves and their descendants from possessing Constitutional rights. The amendment requires states to provide equal protection under the law to all persons within their jurisdictions and was used in the mid-20th century to dismantle racial segregation in the United States, as in Brown v. Board of Education. Its Due Process Clause has been the basis of much important and controversial case law regarding privacy rights, abortion (see Roe v. Wade), and other issues.
The other two Reconstruction Amendments are the Thirteenth Amendment (banning slavery) and the Fifteenth Amendment (banning race-based voting qualifications). In The Slaughterhouse Cases, 83 U.S. 36 (1872), dissenting Supreme Court Justice Swayne wrote, "Fairly construed, these amendments may be said to rise to the dignity of a new Magna Carta."
to deny that is to deny that slavery is wrong.......
coodaloop: how right you are ohhhh how right you are and on top of all of that GOD himself gave us free will people are going to do what they want to do despite what laws u have in effect....as long as you are doing whats right and speak the TRUTH then you have served your purpose no i dont agree with abortion but i also do not agree with a woman getting brutally raped and she gets pregnant that that is fair i believe that is between her and GOD.....no i dont believe in abortion just like i dont believe in the rich oppressing the poor the bible speaks against that also
so please dont bring religion into a conversation unless you are going to speak the truth on both sides.......not just to fit your agenda
Oboma is an extreme left wing radical fanatic with extremely fanatical friends. He should run for political office in another country.
Please do not use God to make a person look bad for your own convience If you expose one side expose both sides because no one on this earth is perfect NOT ONE
It frustrates me sorta when people try to use God as defense for their beliefs First God is not a respecter of any person second right is right wrong is wrong their are no inbetweens
you either believe all of the bible or none of it......... you cant take what part fits you and leave the rest alone...................
exactly, he did not attend a church for 20 years, he attended a black liberation organization. you will find out soon enough who or what his god is.
There's still ALOT of hate and racism in our country. Just check out some of the comments, surprisingly, on CraigsList! Some of the comments on this and other blogs are heartbreaking when it comes to race issues. It all seems to be fueled by hate and ignorance. Also adding to the brazenness is the fact that it can all be "said" in anonymity. I have caught myself wanting to report these offenses to the proper authorities, but stopped short because what could be done? Nothing..that's the sad part. In my lifetime I never thought I would see this day come when our country could come together in support of this man, Sen. Obama in a way that would elevate him to the highest office in our land. That's the pride I feel as a 50 year old black woman in Ohio. Unity inspite of covert racism, we have come a long way, but still with a long way to go.
At Obama rallies and in the offices there are people of all colors and races. We are the majority. Those that practice hatred and racial bias are now the minority. We are ONE NATION. Ride or Die we now do it together. We must each choose to stand together for what is good for all of us as a country or all of us will fall. Don't let the haters get you down. There are more who want unity than you think. I also am black and live in Florida with many bi-racial grandchildren. The world is changing and I for one am very happy that all of my grandchildren will grow up in a better/bigger country where they will be judged by their actions not the color of their skin.
We will never eliminate the racial trouble in this country as long as the race card, Asian-American, African-American, Mexican-Americans ect, has to be used in your description! Playing the race card just keeps the trouble brewing.
All US citizens are all just AMERICAN!
Your words are so true. If the blacks do not want a racial connotation associated with them, then why have the Black Caucus in Wash DC, the black Chamber of Commerce, the special set aside scholarships for black athletes, students and lowered qualifications to attend higher educational institutes. Open the field to everyone on equal basis and then we will all be consided Americans. Do the blacks know about the persecution of the Jews, Catholic, Irish, Chinese just to name a few. Read our history, a lot we should be ashamed to have written and none so much as the native americans. When I see a native american nominated for president, I will feel like we are a nation of equality.
If Hussein is elected, then all forms of affirmative action should be canceled.
It is time for America to learn from the past and move forward. We are a nation that was built on the strength of its diversity-the power and fortitude of all of it's people. Let's uplift ourselves and put racism and hatred behind us. Obama, with his positive message and clear plan for a United America, is our hope for a better future for everyone.
It will have an impact how great? how small? - unknown. Hopefully it will cause people to embrace our differences and cultures. Cause us to be less judgemental based on the color of our skin, when in fact, beyond all of our flesh - we ALL bleed red blood!
It will rip us apart. Its a no win - situation if Mr. Obama wins the Skin heads and KKK will put a price on his head. If he losses it will the focal point for African american rage.
I'm voting for Mr. Nader.
barrack hussein obama is a bigot and will and has hurt this country. his wife is even worse, if that is possible.
Obama, a bigot? How's that?
How will he hurt our country?
How is his wife worse?
Wow. You sound really hateful making accusations without the substance behind them. Kind of ignorant, really. Are you a diehard republican or just a hate-monger ?
At any rate, calm down. The best man will win. America is surely not stupid. It's just been run stupidly for the past 8 years.
Frankly, I pity anyone as blinded by hate as you are. You don't have the facts, just your fear and resentment.
Darlene --
Explain your comments please -- How--why?
hey, - , Time for you to wake up and stop hating. If you believe there is a God, then hate should not be in your life! God does not live in the heart of a person who has hate in their heart.......

I agree, I see alot of hate coming from the right but call themselves christians. I have already voted fo Obama but i do not hate McCain, how can these people hate a man that has done nothig to them?
This is what I know: The United States of America remains a divided nation. It is not as evident as years past, but still very much divided. The majority of minorities in this country still feel left out on the grand scheme of things, that "American Dream" sort to speak. I for one have seen significant changes during my 49 years of existence here, but there remains a long, long way to go. For the past 23 plus years I have served my country via the military and I must say, I am still shocked at how divided my military is and how divided my country still remains. Of course the racial slurs are less frequent, but the subtle comments and actions of a few remind me that we have a long way to go before all Americans can feel equal. Not all citizens of America feel that the true American dream is attainable. That is sad to say but true. The time is now for all Americans to step up and come together. Our country is hurting in a bad way and we all need to work together to lift her up. By working together we can lift up a new nation that all its citizens can be proud of.
This is what I dream: I dream that one day the United States of Americawill realize its full potential. We all want to feel as though the American dream is attainable. It is my hope and dream that one day African American kids along with all other minority kids will be looked upon by their European American friends as potential presidential running mates and not JUST potential voters and supporters. The highest office in all the land is the Presidency of the United States and if we are truly going to be ONE nation under God then we need to begin by electing an candidate that is willing to include all people, not only blacks and whites, but all races. Today, we have that chance. Senator Barack Obama seems to be that vehicle that which can change this country for all of its people. Please make no assumptions here, I am not endorsing him because he is African-American. He has my support because I truly feel in my heart that he is the best candidate to lead our country out of its current situation, but on a broader scope, I feel a win by Barack Obama will go far towards healing the deep rooted wounds of racism in this country. The racism that have held this country back from achieving its maximum potential. This election can be more than just Democrats beating Republicans or Republicans beating Democrats. This election can be the absolute beginning of racial togetherness that have haunted and dehumanized this country for hundreds of years. I am neither a Evangelist or prophet, I am just an American military man that is fed up with all the division within our nation. I dream of the day when I fight only those enemies outside our country with the assurances that everyone within our country are united as ONE. I dream of the day when I can look my son and daughter in the face and tell them that they can too someday be president of our great nation and actually mean it when I say it. I hope when you cast your vote on November 4th that you do so with all Americans in mind. I ask that you look not only at the state of the economy or the war on terrorism and look at how much better this country could be if we were truly united. I ask that you cast your vote for America. God bless you all. Now go out and VOTE....
In the most positive fashion. To steal an old but infamous headline from many years ago An O'bama win is "one giant step for man" and "one giant leap for Mankind" Based on the NYT headline in 1970 when Neil Armstong walked on the Moon for the first time ever. Go B Go!!1
We strive for progress, not perfection. Change is process which O'bama victory will only help. To think it is the cure all is fooling yourself. There will always be people with views out of the mainstream and views based on ignorance and unwilling or unable to open their minds. This too, shall eventually change. However not by one man or one election.
without acorn he would not stand a chance. look at all the $$$ he is spending, buying votes?
Actually your very very wrong, obama has lots of people helping like myself, why do think they keep talking about the ground game? That's not acorn those are supporters!
Look who's talking about spending.
Shall we discuss corrupt abuse-of-power spending for frivolties?
How about talking about in-fighting.
Someone said, "If they cannot run their own campaign in unity, how will they run our country?"
Obama has more money for his campaign because he has more supporters; case closed.
The only reason people would not want to vote for the Obama/Biden ticket has to be because they are afraid of change. They are afraid of the change needed to proprel this country forward. Envoking Barak's middle name and spreading "gossip" seams to be the only thing the Republican Party has to offer. They couldn't possibly have valid opinions on the issues. If they did they would talk about them rather than talking about their opponent. Thankfully, the Democratic ticket has learned that it's better to stay on point than to lower themselves to discuss the fact that:
McCain was less than honorable when he left his wife to be with his mistriss the heiress, or that if he were any other governmental employee he would've been asked to resign when he was still in his 60s, or that he actually crashed 6 planes before managing to get himself captured in Vietnam, or that he actually cancelled his campaign to fix the economic problems in Washington, or that he himself used ACORN to register voters, or that he himself did not want to take public financing, or that he authorized Mr. Kalid to get more than $400K, or that he admitted that he knows nothing about the economy and is uncomfortable discussing it, or that $7B no bid contract Dick Chaney is now campaigning for him...I could go on, but
I'm voting Democrat this year and we just don't bring these things up.
lets not kid ourselves here people even though the color of Baracks skin should not matter it does to the rest of the world where being of anglo saxon decent puts you in the minority. The world is made of peoples of shades of browns electing someone who is not only from a culturally diverse upbringing but who is also physically differentiating from our standard "fat white guy" politician will only help with foreign policy.
How did Colin Powell and C. Rice help as blacks in the Secretary of State position? Did we achieve world peace? This doesn't track about the fat white guy since we've had white female Sec of State as well. Aren't these our diplomats to the world? Why do we think Obama will cement good relations with the world? If anyone can explain to me the special powers he has, please do so.
