Palin is a ding-dong. That was enough for me. If McCain can't get his VP pick right (Lieberman would've worked), how could I vote for him

Registered Dem, voted for McCain. He has always been a builder across the aisle. Obama is too slick with no accomplishments.

I took Obama at his own words, and decided that it would be a moment of supreme irony if and when he places his hand on a Bible and swears to uphold and defend the Constitution.

I made the only SANE choice.

We all will decide on our own - but since knowledge is power, I am passing this along...
                    A question of perspective :
Obama/Biden v.s. McCain/Palin, what if things were switched around?... think about it.  Would the country's collective point of view be different? Could racism be the culprit?
                    Ponder the following:
·What if the Obamas had paraded five children across the stage, including a three-month-old infant and an unwed, pregnant teenage daughter?
·What if John McCain was a former president of the Harvard Law Review?
·What if Barack Obama finished fifth from the bottom of his graduating class?
·What if McCain had only married once, and Obama was a divorcee?
·What if Obama was the candidate who left his first wife after a severe disfiguring car accident, when she no longer measured up to his standards?
·What if Obama had met his second wife in a bar and had a long affair while he was still married?
·What if Michelle Obama was the wife who not only became addicted to painkillers but also acquired them illegally through her charitable organization?
·What if Cindy McCain graduated from Harvard?
·What if Obama had been a member of the Keating Five? (The Keating Five were five United States Senators accused of corruption in 1989, igniting a major political scandal as part of the larger Savings and Loan crisis of the late 1980s and early 1990s.)
·What if McCain was a charismatic, eloquent speaker?
·What if Obama couldn't read from a teleprompter?
·What if Obama was the one who had military experience that included discipline problems and a record of crashi ng seven planes?
·What if Obama was the one who was known to display publicly, on many occasions, a serious anger management problem?
·What if Michelle Obama's family had made their money from beer distribution?
·What if the Obamas had adopted a white child?
·You could easily add to this list. If these questions reflected reality, do you really believe the election numbers would be as close as they are? This is what racism does. It covers up, rationalizes and minimizes positive qualities in one candidate and emphasizes negative qualities in another when there is a color difference.
                    Educational Background:
                    ·Barack Obama:

Syracuse University College of Law - Juris Doctor (J.D.)
                    VS.
                    ·John McCain:

You made some very good points.  Lucky for MCCain that Obama had more class and chose to not use some of those points as campaign issues.  It baffles me that some people are so insecure that they would rather vote for someone "like them" than someone smarter than they are.

Up until McCain picked Palin, I was a Republican and always have been.  Not anymore.  Obama showed a brain cell when he picked a running mate with experience.  If McCain dies in office, God forbid, I couldn't deal with Palin as the President.  McCain had very poor judgment by picking a person young enough to be his daughter with absolutely no experience at all.  She was the mayor of a small town in Alaska and the Govenor of the least populated state in the country.  Hum.  Not a good choice.

Biden is not the sharpest crayon in the box.  He went to SU Law school--was not a great student and frankly puts his feet in his mouth more often than not.  He is a bag of wind.  And by the way, when Clinton ran for President, and even Bush 43 for that matter, the only experience they had was that of Governor (and lawyer for Bill and failed baseball team owner for George) so why is it that they had more experience than Sarah??  I mean could there be a more blatant exampe of double standards for men and women in politics?  Please!!!  Oh and btw, being President is about being advised 24/7 by experts in various fields like intelligence, the military the treasury, the DOJ, etc.  So its not like they are sitting in that office all by themselves making these decisions alone.  Lets be real here...

I didn't have to cross party lines for Obama.  However, I am a former republican. In fact, I did not vote for Bill Clinton, though if he were running today, I would definitely vote for him!  He is responsible for me switching parties.  Also, Palin should seal the deal for any republican with  half a brain!  "McPain" is seriously ready for retirement and I mean that with all sincerity.  He is just not up to the job.  He has gotten too old, too tired, and too short on temper.  We can't trust him with our foreign leaders.  He does not possess the calmness needed for that part of the job.  We have lost so much in the last 8 yers in terms of foreign relations and respect.  Obama/Biden will do much to repair this where McCain/Palin would further destroy it.  He is also too rich and beholden to big business to care about my taxes or anyone else in this country who makes less than $200,000 or $250,000

I'm a registered Republican that voted for Obama.  (I voted libertarian in 2000 and 2004, so I guess I haven't had the best record as a Republican).  Still, I was initially excited about McCain thinking he was the maverick that put the country's intresests above his own.  Somehow, though, in the general election, it seemed he was pandering to the right wing when he should have been becoming more moderate.  (Go extreme to win the primary, but moderate for the general election, no?)  I agree with others who said that if he had picked Lieberman as a VP (showing he was still a maverick) rather than Palin, I would have voted the way I'm registered.

There is nothing more dangerous than a single issue voter and if you are willing to split up your vote at least it shows you have put some effort into learning candidate platforms rather than picking a party based on a single, usually irrelevant issue such as gay marriage or abortion.

That being said, I have always voted a straight Democratic ticket because the world likes us better with a Democrat as President, there is a much more acceptable distribution of wealth, and social programs always fare much better under a Democrat's watch (and for all you pro-lifers out there those social programs mean that abortion rates actually decrease when there are Democrats in power - seriously!)

You should always vote your conscience - but please make sure you have one before you head to the polls!

It is less social handouts we need.  When Dems are in power the only reason the abortion rate drops is everyone needs to work 2 or 3 jobs to pay there taxes and they don't allow sex in the unemployment lines.

The world sees the Democratic Party as weak, why wouldn't they like them.  The last Dem with any guts was Kennedy and look what your party did to him.

Jim, can't have sex in unemployment lines? are you serious? The unemployment lines get really long when a republican is in office. We have the highest unemployment rate in 14 years right now (I believe it would be higher if we could include the people who's unemployment benefits had not run out. There are a lot of people out there without a job and with no hope of getting one in the near future). Your comment is plain silly. Oh, by the by, abortions go down when a Democrat is in office because family planning actually has some funding and girls/women are educated about birth control. I always find it funny that a Republican who is "pro-life" doesn't do anything about stopping the abortions (they only mention them during election years) and abortions actually go up under their terms because they are too backwards to teach sex ed.

the last good Democrat was Kennedy? you are joking, right? and what did our party do to him? We didn't assassinate him, if that is what you are implying. I think that was a guy named Lee Harvey Oswald...study your history a little before you post, please...

An open letter to Barack Obama:

To Senator Obama, I want to say thank you.

While I've always been intellectually curious and have spent time thinking about important issues, at no other time in my life have I felt so engaged in the political process. You taught me that good things are worth fighting for, that we all have a voice, and that ultimately the collection of our voices can have a profound effect on this country.

At no other time have I so voraciously read every news article, feverishly sought out every media clip, or passionately expressed my thoughts about our future President.

At times this process has been glorious (typically after listing to one of your speeches). I've seen folks from all walks of life come together. I've been inspired by your message of unity and of hope. I've been impressed by the consistency and thoroughness of your plans to tackle critical problems ranging from the economy to energy to health care. During these times, especially after eight years of failed Bush policies, America needs to heal and to regain its footing, and I truly believe you are the best person for that job.

At other times times, this process has been disheartening. Especially when I've listened to John McCain and Sarah Palin try to sell their vision of America based on empty promises, lies and fear. If they truly believed that they offered a compelling future for this country, then why would they resort to such tactics? Nothing was more evident of this than when I watched John McCain during his last rally in Arizona. In his home state, among a rather paltry crowd, he spoke vociferously. No matter what your ailment, he claimed he could fix it -- just like the quintessential snake oil salesman. But his promises were empty. They were not backed by his policy choices, and if anything those choices would worsen the situation for most Americans.

And not that far away, Sarah Palin was engaged in similar tactics. Calling you a terrorist, a socialist, and a whole slew of other derogatory terms. It was unbearable to hear such nonsense and dishonesty spew out of one person's mouth, let alone a person running for Vice President and whose running mate was old enough that he may not make it through the next four years.

Throughout all of this Senator Obama, I have admired your decision to consistently take the high road. It is a stance that is not only the right one to take, but also the one that requires the most courage. It demonstrates your overarching belief in America and its people. That ultimately, the masses can overcome small mindedness and bigotry; that we can choose hope over fear, and unity over division.

It is hard to believe that you have been at this process for two years -- having every one of your moves and decisions scrutinized -- losing your privacy and, quite frankly, putting your life on the line every time you go out there. My own strong interest in the election has not been for nearly as long, and still I feel restless and anxious, and yearning for the next couple of hours to pass so that the fruits of your labors can become evident.

You have inspired not only a generation, but an entire society. You made those who idly sat by and watched as politics "happened to them" decide to actually stand up and do something. You made every day Americans like me feel like they were engaged in the political process.

Even though I may never get a chance to say thank you in person, I feel like at some level I know you. It may be in part because your presence on the national stage has reminded us of what should be ingrained in our heads by now: El Pluribus Unum -- "Out of Many, One". Or it may simply be that your successes thus far epitomize the American dream -- that if you are willing to work hard and persevere, then you can achieve great success in your endeavors -- and that dream is one that resonates in all of us. Or it could be that the tapestry of your own experiences contain threads that I can personally relate to and that others can as well.

If the dust settles tonight, and you do not emerge victorious, I will be truly saddened. Because I know the only way that can happen now is if the forces of dishonesty overcame the virtues of truth; or if the specter of evil overcame the righteousness of the good. For the sake of our country, for the sake of democracy, and for the sake our children's future, America needs you -- even if there are small-minded folks out there who don't realize it.

America is forever better off because it got to know you these past two years. You have inspired us, and engaged us in the well being of our country. Those values are priceless. Ultimately, regardless of what happens, I want you to know that I will forever be grateful for what you have done. So, from the bottom of my heart, I thank you.

                                        Sincerely,
                                        ...

My heart goes out to the new president over loss of his grandmother but I am truly so overjoyed for his(our)victory and my faith in the intelligence of the American voter is renewed!

I pray for Obamas health, future and success, and while I am sad for McCains demise as it happened because deep down I dont think he is that bad a person, I do hope that is the last we will all see of Ms Palin- I could not even bear to listen to her speak with her vicious lies, evil attacks and truly hypocritical remarks- that besides the economy was truly the downfall of McCains campaign!

Exactly, the press is going to turn on Obama/Biden so fast peoples heads will spin.  Obama is going to have to govern from the center, just like Clinton, in order to ensure that he is re-elected in 2012.  If he goes too far left, he will not have a chance with moderate Reupublicans and Independants in 2012.  So basically he will not raise taxes (yet) and will not be able to give out the tax breaks and credits he "promised" during the campaign.  The economy has not hit bottom yet and it will be a bit before it does.  Wall street will continue to sell off and have negative days because people are going to be taking out their money to avoid paying higher cap gains taxes when the Bush tax cuts expire, oh and more importantly, now that Iraq is doing much much better (thanks to McCain, Petraeus and the surge), those troops everyone wants to come home will be sent to Afghanistan to fight off the Taliban.  And lets not forget about dealing with Iran and Venezuela, oh how much fun that will be.  When all this happens, or does not happen as the case may be, the press and the far left wing of the party will turn on the new President like a pack of pitbulls.  I sure hope he is ready for that, cause I can't wait...lol

If I remember correctly, the Dems have had control of the House and Senate since January 4, 2007 and haven't exactly put forth an outstanding record in that time.

The S__t just falls downhill... and when the Dems are in control - it piles up and finally hits "us" when a Rep. is in the big office - then HE gets blamed for it!

And... all this bad stuff about Palin - I think she is a tough gal. While she may not be ready today to be president - I believe she could and would do it - just fine. Hey, what experience did Regan have anyway? He did okay. At least I KNOW both McCain & Palin are American - born & bred!

Unfortunately, BOTH parties did this to our country. People complain about Palin's lack of experience.  I must point out one thing: The experienced politicians completely screwed the public for the better part of fifty years.  I'd rather have a newby on the list instead of someone who's been in politics since high school.  If Palin makes mistakes, they're because she's newer to the game, and not (necessarily) because she has a messiah complex. (Example: anyone, Obama included, who wants to "Save the Country.") Though perhaps Obama will make a massive misstep destroying the middle class, you can be sure that he'll get you to feel good about it.

From my point of view, the public has not had a good candidate for twenty years, and I'm sure that comment will inflame the Obamites who think Obama is Christ- Version 2.0.

This entire campaign is like a flock of sheep trying to pick which wolf is going to eat them.

I freely admit that we do need change.  But neither of these two "gentlemen" should be allowed to make change for a twenty, much less the entire country.

If Obama wins, it is very likely the sessionist movement may pick up some momentum, biggerthebetter.  People either love Obama or not and the ones who don't REALLY don't like him.  I'm not saying it is correct but I am saying that the United States are not quite as UNITED as the Democrat party lines would have everyone believe.

While I agree that Palin is not the best choice for VP, Joe Biden is not exactly the best candidate for VP.  Infact, I believe that both VP candidates ended up being a liability to their running mate.  Ultimately, I cannot support a candidate that has socialist leanings and tendencies.  This country is founded on capitalist principals.

I firmly believe that the tax code should be thrown out and everyone pay a flat tax.  I don't care how much you make, you would have to pay taxes.  There should be no tax loopholes or credits, other than for child/dependent care or health care.  Whether you make $10 an hour or $1000 an hour, it should be the same percentage.

That's the only way there will truly be any equality to taxation and the middle class won't be bearing the brunt of horrible tax policies.

                                              Hi Tiffani,

Agreed that Palin is subpar. The other issue is McCain's age and health. You add up the possibilities...

As for capitalist principals. The Karl Rove era republican reality makes fools out of average middle-class republicans. It's more like socialism for the rich in the form of high-end tax cuts for the rich and corporations (bailouts), and capitalism for the rest of us. As you stated above, the middle class bears the brunt. The Regan repbublicans basically coined the phrase, the "rich get richer and the poor get poorer". My opinion, of course.

I can't believe that anyone would regard Palin as a viable candidate for VP.  She has proven herself time and time again throughout this election/campaign process to be incompetent and totally without a grasp of any substantive issues.  As a woman, I am angered that someone with such minimal skillsets and experience as well as having a host of skeletons in her closets (not to mention an ongoing investigation) would be chosen with by the RNC for a position of this importance.  The only role that she has played for the RNC is that of attack dog, slinging mud at Obama throughout the campaign and motivating crowds to give in to their prejudices and fears.

Seems like a nice man, great sense of humor, but I think the job will kill him before he can actually take office.  Jeez people...we vote in these people so ultimately we reep what we sow.  Give me a break and stop complaining already..DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT PEOPLE AND STOP BEING LED BY YOUR NOSES.

Read this article.  If you really want to change the tax system so that the middle class "won't be bearing the brunt of horrible tax policies"  Then Obama is your candidate.  Under Mccain, they would bear more, as his tax cuts are targeted toward the wealthy.  Take it from Warren Buffet if you don't believe me (The second wealthiest man on earth, and perhaps the MOST capitalistic).

                                                  Graham,

Yes, Buffet is very wealthy and knows how to manipulate to get his way.  His endorsement of Obama should have been a WARNING to the middle class that something is not all that it should be.   If Buffet wants him in, it's for a reason and that reason very well may be to control.   Only an idiot would not see that.  Obama's group of 'friends' scares the hell out of me.

Until the GOP gets out of bed with the Evangelical extremists and stops hating gay people (they "tolerate" us, apparently...ugh), I will never vote for a Republican, even for a minor office. I'm actually a moderate in a lot of my views, but they've completely lost me, likely forever.

Senator Obama, I can't wait to call you President.  Thank you for awakening the latent activist in me and in our Country.  The media prefers their spin as opposed to really getting it.  You have said in speech after speech that this election was about us.  You have rallied millions, you chose in our darkest days, as things got uglier and uglier on the campaign trail to remain focused, not to retaliate in the same ugly way.  None of them realize if you had thought any other way what a mess could have been thrown in their laps, but you would never go there and you induced us to feel the same.  You are not a Messiah, you like the rest of us are made in his/her image.  You have reminded us that movements, wars, companies, disaster relief efforts, et al, are not shaped by one person, but by multitudes, under knowledgable leadership.  You have reminded us of our history.    ...under God, shall have a new birth of freedom--and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.

I switched partys to vote for obama, and by the way during the last few years the republicans have fillibusted more legislation than any other time in history but that is never reported in the msm. Just let them keep up the do nothing congress storyline. Mc Cain voted early, when he made his choice of Palin he told the country that other than himself the person he felt to be most qualified to be the president of the most powerfull country on earth was sarah palin. And he was serious.Oh by he way alaska is The most socialist state in the nation.

Both parties are nothing but two groups of corporate whores, both saying the SAME thing.  I will never vote Dem again. What a MESS!  Pelosi and all those wannabe ELITISTS can go suck on eggs.  I am going with the building of a movement in the Greens.  Our environment is way too precious to continue to destroy.  The Kyoto Protocol is an IMPERATIVE!  The wars these Republicans & Democrats went into was a travesty.  Get out of Iraq NOW!
