You're right about Jindal.  But the same could be said about Romney, Huckabee, a dish towel, Giuliani, a stick of gum, Ridge, Stewie Griffin, Lieberman, a used truck tire...

Even still... McCain's choice would not have helped him win.  McCain was destined to lose, but not by his own doing.  The GOP can blame Bush/Cheney.  The past eight years has gutted the Republican Party... and last night many of its citizens took the fall for it.

Romney, Huckabee, Jindal. Guiliana - all of the above would have been much better. Ms. Palin may be good for Alaska - not the USA and not for our global interaction. She is good entertainment, that's about it.

There is no way on earth I can visualize her being succesfull negotiating with Putin.

Sarah Palin got him lots of attention. It turned out that all those "Celebrity" campaign ads was just jealousy, and he longed for similar attention all along. Palin brought that to him. What she didn't bring was experience, originality, intelligence, "maverickyness", nor did she inspire confidence in McCain's ability to make decisions. As Powell pointed out, this was his one big decision to make as a potential president. If the world really is in the peril he suggests... what's with the self-acclaimed "hockey mom"?

I hear what you are saying, but can absolutely guarentee that there were plenty of people who went with McCain because Obama was black.

Now the part that hurt McCain is that many people who would hate someone like Obama or being black, would also be turned off by the downsides of Palin.

She was just a really really bad choice for McCain. This would have been way tighter a race i someone had not sold the republican party on that woman.

I voted for Obama only on his ideas and what we need for the USA and what he is going to do for us and our children's future.... not on his race it never was an issue for me. I did not see black I saw a fellow American who wants to help build USA back to being what it was meant to be. If McCain had spent the majority of his time telling us what he wanted to do that was different then Bush's and not on putting Obama down, he may have won. The issues were way too important in our world today for McCain to have run a campaign for the President the way McCain/Palin did, it would not have matter half as much who is running mate was if he would have told us how he was different and what he was going to do for the people of the USA. But the point is he didn't.... and instead of putting down the winner or loser we should be supporting the new President and encouraging him because the task he has in building the USA up to be the nation it should be is not going to be an easy task by far. I for one will be doing my part to help us rebuild the USA. God Bless America we sure do need it.

You don't seriously believe any other African-American candidate would have made it past Hilary in the primaries, do you?

Obama isn't some stooge the NAACP propped up in the write-in box, you know. He's only the most exciting, inspiring presidential candidate we've had since Kennedy, in the most eagerly anticipated election since 1980.

I'm sure you also didn't mean that people voted for Obama even though they disagreed completely with his stance on issues.

If the chance to make history swayed voters between two otherwise equally capable candidates, well, them's the breaks.

What an interesting perspective. When was the last time anybody won something just because they're black?  It doesn't happen that way in this country.  There were many who thought Obama couldn't win because he's black, now you say he only won because he's black. Make up your mind America, you can't have it both ways.

Obviously your focus, like tons of McCAIN voters, was race.  That's exactly part of why you lost.  I like how you tried to spin it though.  Funny, not clever, but very funny.  McCain didn't do enough to seperate himself from Bush politics and focus on what was important, but instead dispatched that dingbat Palin on a mission to criticize President Obama every chance she got.  It's a shame, yet expected, that people like you can't appreciate how far America has come with race relations and would rather see everything stay the same.  I will pray for your children and their children because they won't know how to cope in an America run by an African-American president if they havet to listen to you everyday.

Well Upset, in one way I will have to agree with you.  It wasn't too long ago that black Americans couldn't vote, couldn't eat with us, had no voice, and were attacked in the streets, because of their color.  In my opinion, they have every right to support him and rejoice in his winning.  The victory means a lot to them, especially those black Americans that are old enough to remember the pain.  And I think it is wonderful for our black countrymen to know that over 50% of their fellow Americans can see past race and elect a man, an American man because we believe in him, and we trust him as commander in chief of our great country.

But, remember, there have been many black politicians that did not unite the whole of America like Obama did.   Obama spoke of uniting us, all of us.  Many, many white Americans voted for Obama too.  I am one of them.  Obama is a good man, and he rallied the most diverse group of Americans with his message of hope.   Most of us, black and white, are tired of the divisiveness.  We want to work together to make this country strong.  It's time for a change in this country, time for the hate to stop.  Yes, it is a victory that all black Americans have every right to cherish.  I think it's wonderful, and I support Obama as my president.  He is a wonderful person, and I am so PROUD of my countrymen!  We voted for change, and we won!

              God Bless America!

              UPSET IN TEXAS,

Get past the color of Obama's skin, or anyone else's for that matter.  Had Obama not been so eloquent and disciplined in his message, he would have gotten nowhere.  The fact that Obama is black only goes to show that he has probably overcome greater odds than an equally inspiring white man would have.  We should celebrate his perseverance and his intelligence.

We all will decide on our own - but since knowledge is power, I am passing this along...
              A question of perspective :
Obama/Biden v.s. McCain/Palin, what if things were switched around?... think about it.  Would the country's collective point of view be different? Could racism be the culprit?
              Ponder the following:
·What if the Obamas had paraded five children across the stage, including a three-month-old infant and an unwed, pregnant teenage daughter?
·What if John McCain was a former president of the Harvard Law Review?
·What if Barack Obama finished fifth from the bottom of his graduating class?
·What if McCain had only married once, and Obama was a divorcee?
·What if Obama was the candidate who left his first wife after a severe disfiguring car accident, when she no longer measured up to his standards?
·What if Obama had met his second wife in a bar and had a long affair while he was still married?
·What if Michelle Obama was the wife who not only became addicted to painkillers but also acquired them illegally through her charitable organization?
·What if Cindy McCain graduated from Harvard?
·What if Obama had been a member of the Keating Five? (The Keating Five were five United States Senators accused of corruption in 1989, igniting a major political scandal as part of the larger Savings and Loan crisis of the late 1980s and early 1990s.)
·What if McCain was a charismatic, eloquent speaker?
·What if Obama couldn't read from a teleprompter?
·What if Obama was the one who had military experience that included discipline problems and a record of crashi ng seven planes?
·What if Obama was the one who was known to display publicly, on many occasions, a serious anger management problem?
·What if Michelle Obama's family had made their money from beer distribution?
·What if the Obamas had adopted a white child?
·You could easily add to this list. If these questions reflected reality, do you really believe the election numbers would be as close as they are? This is what racism does. It covers up, rationalizes and minimizes positive qualities in one candidate and emphasizes negative qualities in another when there is a color difference.

I disagree that people voted for Obama solely because of ethnicity.  The well educated and well informed are still valued and respected in America.  Palin was neither.   I think it's a shame and a disgrace that members of the GOP are sending a message to our children that it is okay to be blithering idiots.

Thanks TR.  Very brilliant analogy.  Most people did not vote for Obama because of his race (despite what the pissy little neocon whiners think).  We voted for him because we needed a positive change in this country.  People around the world (of almost every nationality) cheered when Obama won.  The Euopeans (tons of white people mind you) were probably more exited than we were over his victory.

I didn't vote for Obama because I could see through his media smoke screen and see that he was just a regular politician, Tell people what they want to hear, only do interviews with media that is kind to you, Promise the masses that you'll fight for them, promise the elite that you'll fight for them. Promise, Promise, Promise. He is not an awesome leader, he is a good politician. He has already started backing off on his promises - ON ELECTION NIGHT. What do you think he told the "Hollywood elite" when he was taking their millions and attending their parties? " You guys are going to regret throwing me this party because I'm going to pass tax increases on all of you because you make too much money??? No, I'm pretty sure he told them that he would pass laws that would help them keep their "hard-earned" money. Or whatever else they wanted to hear. How do you make the peasents work harder or believe in your ideals? Promise them a better life, even it is not in your human life, tell them it will be better in the afterlife. Look at the muslim extremists, Don't they also preach CHANGE and HOPE? They attempt to change the world to fit them and promise the suicide bombers HOPE in the afterlife. Then they give money to the remaining family members who did nothing to earn the money. Ironic how Obama's campaign and terrorist extremists have the SAME philosophy.

Hello ! What a shallow reason. I think Kathy said everything eloquently ! It was time to get rid of the "Bushies" . Mc Cain was still hanging onto the Bush policies, and was a little out of touch with what is going on NOW ! Time for him to retire to his 11 mansions and play G-I Joe! New Blood, and Young Blood is the way to go. Thank God Obama is the man for the job, regardless of his color ! He has done more in 40 days than the last one did in 8 years ! Anyone who makes more than $250K a year and thinks they are amongst the poor are seriously in need of help !

We have taken a step towards re-establishing ourself as a true bastion of hope, democracy, and integrity across the world.  No president is perfect, Obama won't be...but he will defend this nation, he will lead by example, and the world will look to America once more with respect and admiration, not with disdain for the hypocritical arrogance with which our president has acted in the last 8 years.

For you who continue Obama bashing, I have a message for all of you.

There will be change, for those who can envision and work for it.  Its the 21st century; its time this nation got back on track.  Its time the leader of this country spoke in terms of hope, of the everyman.  Its time that the leader of this country is one who did not grow up with a wealthy, privileged family background - who worked for what he has accomplished.

If your one of those who wants to do nothing but whine about the outcome of the election, be hateful and spout the same type of garbage that the RNC did consistently through this entire campaign, who doesn't want to help when and where he or she can, then you have no say in how this 'change' plays out.  The definition of change: to make the form, nature, content, future course, etc., of (something) different from what it is or from what it would be if left alone.

We don't yet know how this change will affect us. But what we have lived with the past eight years and what would happen if 'left alone' would certainly not be in the country's or its citizens best interest.  I'm not a fortune teller, but, then again, neither are the rest of you.  For you to assume the worst is hypocrisy if you voted for Sen. McCain - he also called for change and there was no clear idea on what he would accomplish while in office.  But if you believed in Sen. McCain at all then maybe you should go back over his concession address.   He gave the most coherent and stirring speech and if he had presented himself this way during the campaign he might have been our next President.  As it is you can honor his efforts by following his lead:

"These are difficult times for our country.  And I pledge to him (Obama) tonight to do all in my power to help him lead us through the many challenges we face.  I urge all Americans... I urge ALL Americans who supported me to join me in not just congratulating him, but offering our next president our good will and earnest effort to find ways to come together to find the necessary compromises to bridge our differences and help restore our prosperity, defend our security in a dangerous world, and leave our children and grandchildren a stronger, better country than we inherited.

If you keep on with the rhetoric that your posts contain then you belittle the man who you were supporting.  And that is not what Sen. McCain asked of you.

Better get started on that underground shelter, Tigger1. It's just that sort of doomsday mentality that has sunk the Republican party to new depths. Used to be one, but couldn't deal with the constant clarion calls screaming in our ears. The end of the world as we know it...right.

Tigger and Msski, sorry things did not work out for you, but you have to realize as Americans we have a responsibility to get this country back toward "One Nation Under God", note the One Nation part. It is your type of bias that will slow progress down. This country needed a change, the change that was ushered in last night was a change which may heal a nation divided by fear which produces hate. Hopefully this hate, which is clearly displayed in your comments, will soften and we will in fact become One Nation.

I am absolutely amazed that there are people who still support the corruption and lies that the Bush administration has shown us over the past eight years. I don't believe our country has taken a blow at all. I believe that this is finally a step in the direction Bush should have taken four years ago. What is it with authority not wanting to admit its wrong? Could we all realize that this is FINALLY something different? Finally a chance at something other than this. Do you even want more? Do you want progress? Because it seems the narrow-minded opinions are leaning toward the same old crap we've been putting up with for decades. Let's progress into the country we are capable of being, instead of constantly setting ourselves back. Thank God for Obama and his vision! It reminded me that our fellow Americans aren't as bad as they seem.

John and all, please tell me what we are supposed to be united behind?  What principles does he bring to the table.  The guy's a lie.  One Nation under God? Please.  This guy abandoned his own church that he "just sat in" for political purposes for 20 years.  How is the nation supposed to be united under God, when the leader puts forth this kind of example?  Its funny that the general concensus, is since the majority drank the Kool Aid, then they must be right and "its these kinds of people" that have the problem.  That's a typical response from well frankly, hippies. See yall at the bread lines.

Are you talking about in both 2000 and 2004 when we voted in a man who had only brief experience as a governor and only his name to recommend him?  Yes, at that time we reaped what we sowed.

We reaped what we sowed with 8 years of Bush.  We would have REALLY reaped what we sowed with a McCain who isn't even a shadow of the honorable man he was in 2000 and a woman who couldn't pass a high school US history exam being one breath away from the presidency.

The Republican party (of which I am a member...or a former member as it isn't what it used to be) destroyed their chances with their incessant attempts at low-brow politics, gimmicks like Joe the Plumber - I mean, for God's sakes...the man was a SHAM...a phony character who wasn't even what he claimed to be and a man who cheated on his taxes...and he was being asked POLICY QUESTIONS BY PEOPLE AT REPUBLICAN EVENTS.   Please, even as a Republican I have to admit that my party has gone so far off course from the true conservative ideals I held dear for so long that Obama, despite my philosophical differences with the man, was by far and away the better ticket with Biden as his running mate than McCain and Palin.  Give me the Y2K McCain with Liebermann or Romney as a running mate and we have an entirely different situation.

Ah, I love this argument, as if the experience President Bush brought into office served him so well.  Intellectually, Obama runs circles around Bush and that to me is just as important.  What good does experience do if you never use it to make your decisions or you're simply too imcompetent to use it?  I'll take my chances with Barack Obama, thank you.

That's too bad.  We have a new president with a new set of ideals.  Instead of dooming us, be hopeful.  At least give him a chance.  We are all still Americans and we need to be United as such.  If he gets up there and does a bad job, then we were wrong, it wouldn't be the first time.  But at least give him a chance to do what he says.  Besides, I'd rather see someone with less time that hasn't been corrupted by the government yet.  We have a better chance of not having a bought out president that way.

Big mama the bible is clear that you always reap what you sew.  such as you win an election on questionable term (as in 2004) you reap a very questionable President.  You clearly elect a President who does not have all of the experience in the world but brings a message of hope and you reap hope.  Please join us and instead of speaking doom be hopeful that we as a nation together can do as we have always done and pull ourselves up by our bootstraps and become an even better nation.  It is so important that we instead of breeding sour grapes that we work on one accord to help one another to become an even better nation

I would have voted for McCain of 2000... hell, I would have voted for McCain circa 2004... but 2008 plus Palin?  Hell NO!

You took the words right out of my mouth -- I would've voted for 2004 McCain. I actually know three people who were diehard 2008 McCain supporters until he chose Palin, then switched their allegiance after such a diabolically moronic act.

                                          Sad.

Shoot...I would have voted for McCain (who was still a moderate) in 2000 had he won the nomination. A hard right turn and the choice of an un-vetted cheerleader most definitely would have swayed me from voting for him, had I been undecided in 2008.

THere is nothing wrong with Palin. McCain was a bad Republican and that is why the party never got the faithful to rally around him.  Here in Nevada the State leadership disenfranchised the entire state GOP delegation to get McGain elected.

I'm an independent, but registered Republican to vote for John McCain in the 2000 primaries. I understand that McCain's choice of Gov. Palin was largely to appease the conservative base that was unhappy with his nomination, but it backfired with his long-time moderate and independent admirers. I originally objected to Sen. Obama because of his inexperience, but when Gov. Palin was announced, she brought a wholde new meaning to inexperience and unpreparedness. She made me downright frightened to vote for McCain, given his age and health history.

McCain's integrity, statesmanship, and patriotism was in full form in his concession speech tonight. It's too bad he couldn't have been the 2000 Republican nominee, our country might have been a lot better off today. I'm sorry I won't get to see what he would do as  president, but with the debacle of the last 8 year's leadership, he didn't stand a chance. I admire the heck out of him for running under such tough circumstances.

Gray1, Obama is also a proven liar. Don't tell me you actually believed half of the stuff that Obama spewed, or do you actually believe that families who make less than $250,00 or is it $200,00, or $150,00 (I give up because the amount changes every week) want pay higher  taxes. What happens when the tax cuts lapse in 2010 and everybody goes back up the the Clinton 36%-39% tax rates. Don't get me wrong, I disliked both candidates. I'm really tired of this voting for the lesser of two evils situations we the people have been put in since 1988.

As much as the Republicans think she excited the base, Sarah Palin also incited a lot of community organizers to work for Obama. A lot of us donated for the first time and helped work the phone banks because she angered us with her snide comments. I preferred a party that is inclusive, not one that referred to so many of us as whiners, un-American or un-Godly. Maybe McCain would've had any VP pick do the dirty work, but it didn't work this time. God Bless America!

As for "Free of the Ravages of intelligence", It was the Republicans own intellectual leadership- George Will, Colin Powell, Kathleen Parker, and Senator Chuch Hagel that couldn't even stomach what the Republican party has descended into. There are almost seven billion people in the world- and there are only  and only about one in a hundred (70 million) wanted Republicans or their (ridiculous) candidates to continue running it.

Here's a consolation prize to the neocons of the world.  If McCain had been elected, I would have prayed every day that he stay healthy for his entire term (even if he served two terms).  Simply because the thought of President (DEFCON 1) Palin scared me almost as much as the thought of President (Apocalypse Now!!) Cheney.

Word of advice:  If the Republicans want a better showing in 2012, leave people like Limbaugh, Rove, O'Reilly, Hannity, Savage, and the other rich neocons in Hell where they belong.  These people are nothing but a cancer and the Republican party needs some serious chemotherapy!!

MOVE YOUR BASE TO THE CENTER, AWAY FROM THE FAR RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's funny McKenzie. We had a candidate that was to the center and we lost. We had a President who was far to the right in Reagan and he won his reelection by the largest amount ever. Why would anybody vote for an imitation Democrat, when they can have the real thing.

The Republicans need new and fresh faces and I know you will start to see them in 2012. Here is to taking back some seats in the Congress & Senate in 2010 and to Palin/Gindall ticket in 2012! Still doesn't change the fact Obama won and congratulations to him.

I had planned on crossing the party lines and voting for McCain until he picked Palin.  What joke that woman is.  Did he really think that all us women are so simple minded we would vote for him because he chose a woman running mate no matter how stupid she is?

like the upset in texas; I think a lot of people voted for obama purely because he's black...just like those who voted for mccain because he's white, and those who voted against obama because he's black...so, what's the point for real?

                                                  ...not upset in texas

i think you are wrong. I challenge anyone to do her job and do it well.  She was thrust into the national limelight with little preparation and little experience with the national press. A press that was and is biased toward Sen. Obama. She is the modern woman: Mom, soon to be grandmother, wife, and works outside the home.  Isn't that what most of us do?  I challenge most Americans to face that pressure and come out strong and still have a sense of humor at the end.

When McCain chose Palin as his running mate, he showed his lack of ability to lead this country.  He chose a woman for numbers. He didn't care enough about this country to put in someone who was intelligent enough to even know what a Vice President does much less have the ability to lead this country through these dangerous times.

I voted for Barack Obama not because of the color of his skin but because of his intelligence and ability to think rather than react. We barely survived a President who can't be bothered to read-I don't want Joe the Plumber running this country any more.

McCain's choice of Gov. Palin was an example of perhaps the worst judgment shown by a presedential candidate in history. While some say she brought the conservative base, many others turned away from McCain on this one decision alone, offsetting any possible gain she brought. It was simply too obvious she is not qualified to be president.

From rumors I hear McCain had an left his old wife for his current one.  From rumors I hear McCain was involved with the Keating 5.  From rumors I hear that McCain has a vicious temper.  Oh, wait, those are all true.

The rumors spread by the right about Obama were just pathetic attempts to distort and marginalize.  But this is the party that picked a veep candidate who was endorsed by a which hunter that would run women out of villages for being 'witches' and who believes dinosaurs were here a few thousand years ago.  Rumors are all they have at this point.

We might as well just give our guns to the government because we won't be able to keep them, to hunt, not Kill something you people might know nothing about...! and the sad thing is it's not about smearing Obama it's about fearing for our well being and our economy the well being and economy of our state!!! Wyoming is probably more common sense smart than a lot of other places!!!  Smart enough to know that Obama might not be the right choice, not saying McCain is the only choice, just saying from the 2 candidates we had to choose from, McCain was the choice!! but it's ok, at least wyoming is smart enough to vote for the right person, even if he didn't win!!!

Anyone who has an ounce of common sense in their body would know that change is good and Obama is the representation of change. Your precious guns will be safe, as I believe that as a democratic nation (and even though I'm a liberal) that you have a right to your firearms. I think these red states need to open their eyes, and get used to change. Because, like we liberals and democrats had to deal with for the last 8 hellatious years, Republicans will not have the final say. As for Palin, she turned off way to many people to help McCain, the more people got to know about her the less she did for the ticket.

The thought of having a woman as a VP was a good one, however, the choice of that VP candidate was poor. Truly - if McCain and the GOP thought to win the "Hilary Democrats," look at the demographics: We are  A)intellgent, B)Educated in our community and in our world, C)We know how to read and we read all sorts of books, newpapers, blogs, and commentaries D)We know that seeking the smartest, most intelligent candidate to lead our great nation out of the quagmire the current Bush years have dragged us into is not an elitist statement, but a choice that exemplifies wisdom and foresight. We are sister and mothers and daughters who have cleaned up the messes the last 8 years have sloshed all over our great nation.

The thought of Sarah Palin being but a heartbeat away from touching THE BUTTON should have eliminated her from being a choice for VP. In lipstick of Versace, she is still unqualified, inexperienced and underedcuated with no desire or will to improve.

We as a nation should be about raising the bar of excellence, not lowering it to cheerleaders and beauty queens who did not graduate in the top of their classes, and who believe that celebrating mediocrity is "patriotic."

Would you want a doctor to operate on you who graduated in the bottom of the class - or the doctor who graduated with honors at the top, the best of the best?  Of the candidates offered, we chose the best of class.  Congratulations President Elect Obama.

Thank you, there was no way in the world ANYONE who liked Hillary was going to vote Palin in. And with McCain's age against him (and let us be honest, that factor was an issue from the beginning) the person who MIGHT take over should he pass on was a big deal. And he picks a Beauty Queen from Alaska? Sorry the "female" factor alone doesn't win the Hillary Vote.
