97% of blacks voted for him and proudly state that it was because of his color...RACISM 101
Election was the largest racist act in history
I too am very happy this morning!! Also hope that he keeps his promises. McCain probably would have done better with a different VP pick but the tone of his campaign in the last couple of weeks didn't do him any good either
The lies the sneers and all the sarcasm the old politics and the undertone racial slurs..........IS NOT GOING TO WORK ANYMORE...............
The victory in Obama winning is for all Americans who were tired of the same ole dirty politics thats been handed down from one President to another......
The GOP needs to catch up with the rest of this country and i think Americans have sent them a HUGE message..
Get some fresh young people reps who are in touch with what goes on not only in your own back yards but everybodys back yard..........
You guys need a facelift, makeover and a whole new step......
I didnt say it but over half of all the Americans overwhelmingly said it...........
This had nothing to do with race but you guys pushed eveyone up against the wall and we came out swinging and yelling NO MORE NO MORE..........
John MCain speech last night was excellent because he even knew why he lost.....and the things he said was very eye opening to those people who are stuck in the past.....
Hopefully they listened...............
And I've never been more proud of my country, darlene-520773
OMG Darlene, is that the same thing you people tried to hang on Michelle Obama? Not proud of your Country? Wow, you people are more bitter than I even thought. Nothing better to do than stay home and slam the boards today?
Your use of his middle name Hussein, is nothing more than a reveal into the inner core of your racist hatred. I really hope you people go back into the spider holes you belong in.....before George Walker Bush brought you out of them.
i can beleive that, obamanit
james4obama, lets not get to self righteous about politicians and how they campaign. ck the unbiased sources to see the negativity spewed by the media and the obama campaign, and yes the McCain campaign. It was a great victory for all of America, but don't confuse the historical event, with reality. One of Obama's biggest, lets say, "changes of the mind" was to opt out of public financing. It clearly paid off, but it was a written commitment that he broke. Leaders, at times, are forced to change their minds, and thank goodness, when one has the "leadership" to admit and change. But, this was no such decision, this was simple a commitment (promise) that he chose to break, because it was in his best interest to do so. Any chance of campaign finance reform is gone for a while. I am very happy for America today, it chose the right man at the right time. I am hopeful that the race issue is put to bed, by BOTH whites AND blacks. the beauty of our democracy is that we the people get to choose. But, again, lets not let the tears of joy, blur our visions of the polictical battlefield.
Foolish, enthusiastic, gullible electorate. The only change I've witnessed in government in 60 years is whose pockect the money goes in first. If only you'd have looked at the "record" of Obama and Joe you would know what you are going to get! "THE BUSINESS"
Congress has been controlled by Democrats. Congress' approval rating is around 9% (the lowest ever). And you think by turning over more power to the Democrats you will magically get honesty and change to benefit the citizens? That is beyond DELUSIONAL.
Let's talk in 4 years. I predict another Carter Presidency.
Before you start to pooh-pooh me, let me say it would not have been different if The Republicrats and McCain had won. You just don't see that the only way you would even come close to real change in government is if you had voted outside of BOTH parties!
Break the "Machine" or you are doomed to repeat history once more.
Yankee----you're probably right but the bummacrats won't notice. Their heads will be in the sand as usual and when it happens, they'll blame everyone else including people long dead.
I have heard everything under the sun being put out in order to diminish this man's win. Get over it!
This is the largest margin of victory for any democrat since LBJ so much for the slim margin' theory.
This man was put in office not by any interest group but by voters across the spectrum. In the truest sense, a reflection of the Great American Melting Pot. The largest voter turnout percentage in 100 years. What else does he have to prove?
Give it up!
Respect the man, the race he won and his office. He IS the President-elect of the United States... The ENTIRE United States. Its time to become Americans again. Times are changing though its been a long time coming and it is time to get past outdated, unacceptable ways.
Right. Of course when Bush won in 2000, he was also president of the ENTIRE United States, but we didn't really see a ton of respect coming from the Dem side. What goes around comes around - for both sides.
Comment from Bens Dad
His ability to get the vote out $650 million in campaign contributions, the liberal media in his back pocket, and a Chicago style vote stealing machine (ACORN). Simple!!!
****This really is a statement in audacity****It really must hurt you to admit that McCain with all his Lobbyist, his wife's millions and even Bush (with his secret closed door fundraisers)and contributions from big Oil and Corporations, could not keep up with a little known Senator from Ill. One with (your words repugs)No experience, one who just relied on the American People to for the majority of his campaign finances (yes there were some donations from big business)but not many,Brilliant Strategy and mostly done by VOLUNTEERS to get out his message of change and hope to the rest of America, he could not even compete in this arena.
As to your remark about ACORN (you just keep with the negativity),but you fail to complete your research on this subject)!! It would be so easy to go to a search engine and enter McCain and ACORN to find out who had the most recent association with ACORN,in 2006 (both giving and receiving praise) and was their FEATURED SPEAKER,here in Miami. But again, that would be too easy. You would rather spread hate than the truth. You are truly a McCain clone. But that is your problem to deal with. Tell that to your son if you can.
I really think Bush's, disrespect was self-generated. I cannot speak to the validity of what you are saying miketty because I was not surfing for things like this. I did feel however that his cowboy attitude would lead us to war or worse. However, I never imagined what we have on our hands today.
I think the hub bub about W in 2000 was whether or not he stolen the election, rightly so from all historical accounts. Not comparable to today's candidate.
In this case, as McCain himself said, the American people spoke clearly. If there were valid concerns about Mr Obama's victory, I would never have posted the above. If he demonstrated the type of strutting adversarial character evidenced early on in Ws run for office I would not respect the man.
As far as Obama is concerned, I respect the man because he is giving careful consideration to who he surrounds himself with and is willing to listen to diverging points of view. That could not be said about W.
Wow, look at the bitterness. That's ok, get it out of your systems, it won't change the outcome.
And to the comments that it will be same ''ol same 'ol, are you really trying to say that McCain/Palin was going to be so much different?
Don't insult our intelligence.
I find it cute the fantasy world you people are living in. "oh, I'm so happy, I can't wait for him to heal the world", "oh, I'm so happy today, I hope he delivers on all his promises", "I too am very happy this morning!! Also hope that he keeps his promises". If you believe President-elect Barack Obama believes he can do even a quarter of what he promised, I have a dead horse I wanna sell you. Their politicians; they tell you what they need to tell you to get their vote. How do you measure "heal the world"? :) The American voter is so easy.
Idealism is alive and well in the USA....can be good, but this is a bit ridiculous. Anyone who's had an Economics 101 class can tell you that if Obama implements the ideas he has for the economy we will be worse off then when he takes office. You cannot tax your way out of an economic downturn. Also have to say that race certainly did play a huge part in this election, not on the part of perceived prejudiced white America but on the part of Black America, many have admitted to voting for Obama not because of the issues at hand but solely because he's black. I am hoping and praying that all this optimism is warranted
We can heal the world. Us, our children and generations to come. He's inspired many of us. He has renewed faith in our country. He will do his best within the time we give him to make the changes he can to achieve the changes we need. I believe in him and think he is genuine. A lot of us are hopeful and looking forward to a better tomorrow. We are heading in the right direction. YES WE CAN!
It sounds as though you have truly been brainwashed by all of the media hype. Let's talk about change - the DOW dropped another 400+ points. The economy is improving already..
Apparently you were not the only one that thought we were voting for a motivational speaker.
Good Job America you have elected another politician that happens to be black. The only change you have made is that a black man can be president.... Wow! was that never possible in America until now? Get over yourselves! Now what, are "we the people" going to be able to question what he does with the same fine tooth comb without being a racist? It will get ugly! Put the race card back in the deck, and pull it out when the going gets tough.
You are speaking the truth ...sorry to say ... but TRUE. If you say you do not like what he is doing or stand for before and now afterwards... it becomes a race issue.... I don't care if he was PURPLE and GREEN I do not like his Idea's or his 1/2 truths. I was afraid of even putting a Rep. sticker on my car this time...
People only picked him to make history. He did not have to prove half of what McCain Volunteered Where did his contributions come from? Where is his birth certificate? Mccain handed all the press 300 pages of medical history obama gave 1 page! I dont care if it was only $1.00 I want to know who gave it! His own running mate tried his hardest to show everyone the truth but all eyes closed to skin color and history.
Yes there were slaves, yes I am sorry for that but there were slaves who were other races then black and how many of us alive today were slaves let history be just that. there are many issues that Obama can and will not be able to handle not because of his color but because he does not have the knowledge or will to handle them correctly. The media focused on stupid issues such as Palins clothes while there are so many other issues that should have been discussed to inform and educate voters,
All you Obama supporters You hold that CHANGE sign up as were being attacked by russia, and i'm sure many more enemy's to come. See how much protection that will give you. I guess the joke I can see russia from my house will come in handy she will be the first to know it's coming.
It does amaze me that Sen. McCain was able to come out the other night and give a true Johnny Mac speech. That was the Senator I grew to respect even though he was a Republican. One of the things he said in his speech that was truly McCainish was that "the American people have spoken and they have spoken clearly" The second was” now it is time for all Americans to get on board with this new President and help to heal this Nation. My point is this, if all of you folks would spend less time speaking the negative and start trying to do as the Leader of the Republican party has requested, you me and this entire nation could not be stopped. When we come together not as a Red or a Blue party people but as the United States of America, WE CAN NOT BE STOPPED, DEFEATED OR HELD BACK!!!!!! United we stand, divided we fall. Please folks I ask you today to think of this as another opportunity to show the rest of the world that we are the greatest nation in history and will always be the greatest. We all have our point of view. But slamming anyone is just another way that we divide ourselves. As for me I hope that everyone would follow Sen. McCain's lead and quit crying over your own ideas and start working together.
To MBrown49:
I think darlene might actually be serious, not sarcastic...but it's hard to tell for sure.
I find it extremely reassuring that America is still able to surprise, and in some cases, amaze me, and I join everyone (or at least, everyone who truly loves the country, as opposed to those who just hate Democrats), in wishing President Obama all success in his endeavors (for all of our sakes).
Having said that, I'll add that IMHO, his Presidency may ultimately turn out to be less important, historically, than his election to it (and the cultural evolution that it portends).
The "Idi Amin" comment was ingenuous. To claim that any Democrat would've beaten McCain is to diminish the incredible personal accomplishments of Barack Obama and the nearly perfect campaign he ran.
Credit where credit is due, Republicans. You didn't lose - Obama won.
Apparently you have been in a coma during this whole process. Virtually everyone with an opinion on this election has stated categorically that the "race question" barely operated at all, unless you count the fact that African-Americans came out in astounding numbers to vote.
Exit polls made clear that the economy was the #1 issue for voters. Race was barely a blip on the political radar, even assuming some closet bigots voted White once the curtain closed on the polling booth. The only racist I see around here is you, for bringing it up as if it was the only issue that mattered.
You and your right-wing cronies stubbornly refuse to consider that the 65 million voters who went for Obama, did so because he was the better candidate, because he had better policies, because he ran a flawless (and comparatively positive) campaign, and because the McCain team screwed the pooch.
You're still playing the blame game, but you're playing with yourselves. The rest of us are looking to the future. If you truly love the country (as opposed to just despising Democrats), you'd best start doing the same.
People when it seems to good to be true you know its not that good... I compare him to a player he sweet talks you until he has you convinced that he is the right man... I really hope I'm wrong but that's just what I think...
Apparently, you are incapable of intelligent thought at all. So it really doesn't matter what you think now, does it!
I totally agree with you yadi. If it sounds too good to be true then it usually is. There is no way he can ever put all of his promises in action even if he had two terms to do it in. He has played smoke and mirror games and told everyone what they wanted to hear and it is sad to think that the majority of America fell for it. This wasn't a race for presidency it was an election for race! I couldn't care less what color he is! What is he really going to do for the economy, health care, gas prices???? Now that he has won his power trip it will be interesting if he can do anything to help our country. I didn't vote for him or McCain. I didn't really care for either one. Now, all the irresponsible Americans that went out last night and partied because Obama won,got drunk and wind up pregnant can get their pro-choice abortion come January when he takes office and continue to be irresponsible! Good Job!
kansasallie i totally agree with u and yadi. We should all know by now that every president has promised things that he couldn't do while trying to get the vote. That's part of the game, isn't it? You are SO right when you said: This wasn't a race for presidency it was an election for race! I think its sad that so many people just wanted to be part of history and vote in a minority but don't even know who he is or what he stands for other then the color of his skin. I trully believe that ignorance and laziness of too many Americans is what won this election for him. I'm not saying McCain would have been a better choice, every president makes some good and bad choices and we all have to suffer the consequences. I just don't think enough of the voters cast their votes based on what really matters, his position on important issues and what he stands for. A lot of people don't even know what he's promising, just that he's promising "change". Guess we'll all find out the hard way.
That's just because you've become so cynical, mistrusting and jaded after being lied to so long by the Bush government, that you wouldn't acknowledge, or even recognize true leadership qualities if they bit you on the butt.
After 9/11, Bush told us to go shopping. Last Saturday I was on my way to do some shopping when I got a text from Obama to volunteer. I turned the car around in the middle of the intersection to find a polling place to work. This is the kind of big ideas that we need. I hope Obama keeps texting throughout his presidency--it's like getting the call from Commissioner Gordon to step up. I'll be there!
(laughing) I was just thinking the same thing...what a most innovative way to keep in touch with the people, yes?!!!
That's why we needed a young president with fresh ideas and views! I just wish my mother were still alive to see this!
the text was from one of his little airheads. wake up.
The neo-conservative movement that has brought this nation to its knees is over. Now we need to help this Country back to its feet and return it to the more progressive roots it was founded on.
The neo-cons can now look forward to a 30-40 year minority thanks to the crimes they have committed over the past 28 years, and particularly the last 8. You reap what you sew. the republican party can either return to their founding principles, or perish.
Wow! Let's see how you like socialism. Spread the wealth! Let's see how you feel when the person in front of you in line at the supermarket with food stamps is doing better than you because of obama's liberal "spread the wealth" policies. Last time i checked this is America... enjoy socialism
People have been in front of me for years with food stamps, under both parties... grow up... what an a**
My sentiments exactly. Still banging around the old worn out "spread the wealth" and "socialism" crap. Face it. You're out of ammo. The lies didn't work, and they will never work again. Allowing the irresponsible Bush tax cuts to expire is not socialism, and it is not spreading the wealth in a socialistic sense. It is responsible and affordable economic policy.
Food stamps, spread the wealth, blah blah blah. Back up those accusation with hard numbers and proof. I've checked the tax plan under the non-partisan Tax Policy Center, and if letting the tax rate on income above $250K go from 36% to 39% is socialism, then you need to read more.
You need to read Marx and Engels. Spreading the wealth is one of the first tenents of Socialism.
People have been in front of me for years with food stamps, under both parties... grow up... what an a**
Maybe so, but the Dem. Food Stampers are multi-generational - The Repubs. work their way out of it.
Some Anne-Ohio stated in the votes above that Obama proves it's possible to have "one nation, one people". I think this is a seriously lost statement. Did anyone bother to look at the popular vote? This is STILL a nation divided and I doubt that Obama's socialistic ideas will do anything other than seriously tick people off in the long run. Just like Unions. By the way, where is good ole Jimmy? Anyone find him yet?
Lucy,
If you truly believe this comment you just posted, then you should agree George Bush should be the poster child for socialism. That is exactly what he has done, redistribute the wealth to the wealthiest in this country.
James 698272....I got a page on my way to a friends and did the same...kept doing it until Monday.....I'm so proud Of the work we all did...those of you that only have complaints will do the same no matter who is in office....it is the way you were raised.
Lucy,
If you truly believe this comment you just posted, then you should agree George Bush should be the poster child for socialism. That is exactly what he has done, redistribute the wealth to the wealthiest in this country.
Not entirely, Southern Bell, I'm not "wealthy" and I'm doing better than ever. However, what you're describing is more related to Capitalism as opposed to Socialism. I can't even begin to think how you made the connection in your statement. Well, I have one idea....
ms buffy,
I'm aware that this point has been made many times before, but apparently you missed it the first few times. The bank bailout is socialism. The fact the we pay for schools, roads, police, fire dept, etc., are all based on the tenants of socialism as well.
Also I am also doing better financially than I was when Bush was first elected. However I am also in my early 30s. So I think it has much more to do with my age and smart career choices, rather than the wonderful job that W did.
I'm well aware of Marx, but you still haven't proven socialism in Obama's plan to me. Don't talk to me about Marx, Lenin and any of the other socialist models until you have proven that we have anything more in this Country than corporate socialism. Show me the hard numbers that amount to naything more than an expiration of the Bush tax cuts. If you think that is socialism, then I suggest you do the reading.
So far, I still see no proof. I won't hold my breath.
Lucy, I have read Marx and Engels and Lenin and Trotsky and Marcuse and Benjamin and Fabian and Althusser and Baol and Derrida, et al., and you haven't or you wouldn't have made such a ridiculous statement.
I just finished the third----Who cares about your job---- thank God that you have one. That won't be the case for many guys just making it.
Obama talked a good game and got himself elected.........will he fulfill his promises....maybe........but the fact that Americans voted a man into our highest office who will not salute our/his flag sooooo many of our citizens died for shows the world how shallow we truly are. Don't get your hopes up too high people...........
Hey Michelle. "paying for police, firefighters, schools..........are all based on the tenets of socialism.........." yada yada yada. You must be a victim of the public school system. What you describe is for the benefit to ALL in a functioning society within any political system and does not equate with socialism in the true meaning and conception of comrade Marx. Having an educated citizenry, common loss mitigation from crime and fire, etc. is an investment in the community where one lives, because without it, economic growth would be impossible. The American brand of Socialism that has always been the province of the Left, including the likes of comrade Obama, entails government taking income at the point of a gun from those who work hard for it through regular employment or small business ownership and giving it to fat lazy parasites and bastard factories so they can sit at home all day watching Oprah. Then they keep coming back to point that gun at you for more of your money to fund the purpetually expanding government apparatus required to administer these "entitlements". The difference is this is not by any means considered an investment in the community because there can never be a positive return. By deliberate policy, there is little to no mechanism in place to force society's parasites to get on their feet and pull their own weight. It is designed to do just the opposite by keeping them down through lack of incentives. MBROWN49- "Proving" Socialism in comrade Obama's plans is not possible because he has NEVER revealed any plans on how he is going to "change" anything, just lots of rhetoric, floating superlatives, fluffy meaningless words like hope, dreams, and change change change! It is however quite provable to deduce his politics as Socialist by examining the sum of his history in public life, including his voting record in Illinois. Now you can connect the dots.
McCain had literally no ideas whatsoever. He waited to see what Obama said, and then attacked it - laughed at it, torn it down...but couldn't offer his own solution at all. Voting him was like letting a blind man drive. And the funniest part is that if you researched mccain at all, you would have quickly found his many, many statements that the rich should pay more.
Now that's irony. the socialist calling the kettle black.
Yeah Bigger the better's right, Mccain did say a few years ago that he though the richer classes should pay more when he contested the bush tax cuts. And lets not forget that Palin arranged for "Windfall" tax profits for the citizens of alaska from the pockets of the alaskan oil companies pockets. But apparently to some of you. If the Republicans are doing it, its all fine and dandy, but if the Dem's wanna do it, Oh noes... big scarey socialism. And lets face reality. Its the rich that got us into this mess. Especially the greedy CEO's that ran the Banks, Wallstreet, and Insurance Co's. Even after the bailout AIG sent their top sales execs on a extremely expensive vacation on the Taxpayers dime! And it was all the republicans and their de-regulation that attributed to the undersight of the banking industry. And lets not forget the 10Billion dollar a month war in Iraq. A war that had nothing to do with Bin Ladin, and "alleged" weapons of mass destruction that turned out to be one big lie. So like it or not, things have to change drastically.
Oh, okay, never mind about darlene being serious. Missed her little "airhead" comment.
In a nutshell (feel free to take notes): your party had eight years in almost total control, they ran the country into the ground (and then some) and then tried to sell us a "maverick" who had toed the party line for 20 years.
We answered, "No, thanks, we prefer someone who actually has new ideas, a new approach...and an IQ in triple digits!"
And don't even get me started on Sarah Palin!
You lost. Get over it...and for the sake of the country you claim to love, you'd best stop whining and start wishing President Obama success in all of his endeavors. If he fails, we all go down together.
Bush, et al., have proven this to be true.
To shipunkchic:
You need to bone up on your definitions. "Socialism" is defined to be a broad set of economic theories of social organization advocating state or collective ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods, and the creation of an a broad set of economic theories of social organization advocating state or collective ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods, and the creation of an egalitarian society."
Nowhere in anything Obama has ever said, written, or probably even thought, has there been any mention of nationalizing private institutions (the way Bush has nationalized the finanial sector with huge bailouts) or the means of distribution and production.
Whenever the right-wing doesn't have a clue about how to pigeonhole an opponent, you just drag out the old "socialism" label, even though it's clear you actually have no idea what "socialism" really means.
Better get out the dictionary, shipunkchic - your ignorance is showing.
Mr Obama won because of the poor economy, which house democrats got a free pass on, and the ovewhelming favorable coverage by the media. Not to mention a war chest that was three times McCain's and the abilty to buy prime time ads.
- i agree with you. besides, I was worried that if anything happened to Mccain if he had won, that palin would be running the country. I dont think she has enough experience to have that power.
taytmw;
Not only does she not have enough experience, she doesn't have the intelligence either. Palin was the most frightening aspect of the McCain ticket.
Glad we dodged that bullet!
Interesting. Palin is the governor of a state. She has executive experience. Obama is the junior senator from Illinois serving 2 years. Please explain to me what his leadership experience is?
If you were so scared of Palin due to her "lack" of experience, then when are you not equally scared of Obama who has none? What legislation has he introduced? What has he ever led?
Doesn't sound very smart!
She is as qualified to run as Obama. She was a very smart pick for McCain as Hillary would have been for Obama. Women need to stand up for each other and stop putting each other down
Carter was inexperienced. Reagan too. Clinton too. Baby Bush . . . uh, well we've all seen how his "experience" helped us.
It's so funny how negative and bitter and mean spirited the Repubs are.
Carter, Reagan and Clinton all had more experience.
Carter had 7 yrs as a Naval officer, 8 yrs in State politics, and then a full term as Governor of Georgia.
Ronald Reagan served 2 terms as Governor of California.
Bill Clinton was elected Arkansas Attorney General in 1976, and won the governorship in 1978. After losing a bid for a second term, he regained the office four years later, and served until he defeated incumbent George Bush and third party candidate Ross Perot in the 1992 presidential race.
I know facts and support of Obama don't get along very well, but it might help you not make a total goof of yourself if you use some once in a while.
My issue with Palin was the library book issue. I don't know the whole story, but she either suggested certain books be removed, or demanded, or whatever, then suddenly the librarian didn't have a job.
I don't know the whole story, but where there is smoke, there is fire.
And I like to read.
Reply to Boston1977. The answer is simple - we have no need to fear Senator Obama because he is intelligent, educated and able to choose smart, qualified folks as advisors. Palin, on the other hand, ran a town for a few years that had fewer occupants than some high schools. Her state provides small opportunity for experience, and the folks she hired for advisory positions were her friends from high school. I understand you feel you have to defend her, but the fact remains, she is a small minded bigot. America has moved on from her kind of attitudes, and even her claim to Christianity is a joke. Jesus does not prefer big mouth self serving liars. His true followers can read the Bible - it says that you are not to go around bragging that you are more devoted to him than others, you are not to bear false witness, you are not to kill (yes, that means war, animals, death penalty as well as abortion). $20,500 worth of lipstick, several pairs of Jimmy Choo and Manolo Blahnik $1000+ high heels and $150,000 of clothing still couldn't give her class or enough smarts to qualify to run this country - she was one of McCain's dumbest decisions, and a major contributor to his loss of the election.
Isn't it funny?
Whenever anyone questioned the Bush administration, they were anti-American. Whenever anyone praised the president-elect, they are socialist or communist (which are not interchangeable terms...just more proof that you are repeating sound bites and you genuinely have NO idea what you are talking about). Always a spin and whenever someone makes an intelligent response that they cannot handle, they throw out insults which is always the end result of a lost argument).
When Bush won, we weren't happy, but we accepted it. Why can't you be as gracious? I think the people that did McCain the greatest disservice are his supporters.
But at the end of the day, guess what? Barack Obama was chosen by the American people. He is your president and there isn't anything you can do about it. Enjoy.
Robin, wow, "the fact remains she is a small minded bigot"? What fact is that? "we have no need to fear Senator Obaba because his is intelligent, educated and able to choose smart, qualified folks as advisors" You mean like William Ayers...Obama is a smooth talking suit. I hope he does well as president, but he was not my choice. As a republican, Mccain was not my choice either. I find it interesting that you smear Palin for her choice in clothes, but don't mention the cost of the suits, or the brand for that matter that Obama and Biden wore. The reality is, it does not matter. You only point it out because of your hatred for Governer Palin and the party she represents.
Actually, I have always been a republican, until Bush, and would have immediately returned to my long term party if McCain had chosen someone sensible as his VP candidate. As to Palin, she is dumb. Katie Couric is not a brilliant interviewer - she actually tried to give Palin a chance to clean up the ridiculous things she had said in her earlier interview, but she was unable to talk her way out of a paper bag, and has set back the opportunity for women to be in high office significantly with her failure to understand that she was overreaching. I would have been thrilled to vote for McCain if her had only chosen someone smart, qualified, and a woman who met those standards would have been fantastic. But he didn't choose wisely, and we lost. Bu the way, the other folks you mentioned paid for their own clothes, so it is irrelevant how much they paid, however, "Joe Sixpack" Palin has a net worth in excess of $2 million and an annual salary in excess of $170,000, plus she charges the people of Alaska a per diem for herself and her children to sleep and eat in their own home, so she should have bought her own clothes just like all the other candidates, in which case I would not care one bit how much they cost. I do not hate Palin, I actually pity her - McCain put her in an inappropriate position and yes, she was too dumb and too ambitious to consider anything other than her ego when she accepted. She should have withdrawn when she realized that she was damaging our chances, but she is just too self-interested and ambitious and was happy to let McCain lose, just as long as she had a chance to walk over him to try to increase her own position. I have no respect for her, and because of her presence on the ticket, I, as well as millions of other republicans, could not in good faith vote for McCain.
Obama can spend a million dollars on his suits if he wants. It's his money. Sarah spent campaign money, and now it is coming out that a wealthy donor told her to go buy a few outfits, and had a hairy fit when he saw the amount. Also, she was using staff's credit cards to buy tens of thousands of dollars worth of clothing and accessories - including 20 - 40,000 worth of clothes for todd. Not one penny of that was hers. The ones complaining about this were REPUBLICANS. They brought this to light. Dems are only talking about it to make fun of it. Remember - every penny she spent on clothing was good for Obama - it was less money for advertisements and campaigning. It was her own campaign funds that suffered. that's why republicans are so angry about the clothing. she should have bought her own like Biden, McCain and Obama did.
We all worried about that. Palin was a whole lot scarier than McCain. I'd feel more comfortable with my 16-year-old son as VP. At least he knows that Africa is a continent and the VP is not in charge of the Senate!
We shall see, but already he's backpedaling and saying he might have to tone down some of the things he "promised." No kidding. Also, he's as much white as he is Afro-American, (I don't get this big euphoria about him being black, he's also white), which is obvious because he got a lot of the white vote and couldn't have won without them. Hopefully he'll remember that when he's president and not just cater to the blacks' needs, since if he does, he won't win again in 2012.
Interestingly enough, the press have been asking each candidate for several weeks what plans they would have to change or postpone because of the economic crisis, and Obama has been talking about it in those terms already. It's not backpedaling, it's leadership. Reality deserves an honest broker, and thank goodness we've got one now.
I think if we focus on CHANGE as Obama spoke of and not start throwing stones as if are closets are clean, then the racial devide will start to CHANGE. We all know by now that Presidents make promises they don't keep. Its an experienced fact. Americans citizens need to work together as a whole and not depend on one man to do that. That is where CHANGE comes in.
I am black but I also have Indian and Irish blood in me. What's your point? The man is black.
I am german, hawaiian and black ( ok, brown ). that doesn't make me Black, brown or white, it makes me HUMAN!!.
Funny, whites in the south have always said if you have "1/16" OF A DROP OF NEGRO blood in you, you're Black, not part white, simi black, JUST BLACK!
Ok, ldi, some idiots may think that, but what are you saying? that I am just black, not human?
Well, you believe everything that is promised on the campaign trail, I have nothing to say.... He's going to get into the Oval Office, lift up the rug and see all kinds of dirt devils left behind by 8 years of Bush. That's going to change a whole heck of a lot of things when it's time to get down to the nitty-gritty. Just be realistic about what can be done in 4 years. Have some faith.
Koukla50
That seems to be a common thread among conservatives, the fear that a black president is going to "cater to the needs of blacks." What would make you think that is what he will do? Obama is the President of the United States, and that includes every citizen of the U.S., not just African Americans. Do you worry about that because if you were the new president, you would only cater to the white people? Let's not be ridiculous.
And by the way, my grandfather was white, but I am a brown-skin African American. Somehow, I'm sure you wouldn't call ME white, so why is it that Obama is suddenly white? You can't have it both ways and accept a person's dual heritage only when it suits your purposes.
Obama is BLACK, an African American in the true sense. And we African Americans accept him as black regardless of his ancestry, as we do ALL of our bi-racial brothers and sisters--anytime, and any place.
It's time to move past this racial divide and work together to heal our nation, and now, with Obama's presidency is the perfect time to start.
Im glad we finally cracked that nut and elected a black president. But it's too bad we had to elect suck a wanker for the first..
Koukla50-
First let me just say that it's over now. What's done is done. Get over it. And the comment about black people being racist......Black people have voted for white presidents for YEARS! If they were racist as a people, they wouldn't have voted at all in the past. Is it so bad that someone with darker skin got elected? Sometimes I really think that some people take the term "White House" literally. Very sad, I must say. And while you may not consider yourself a racist, you are definitely ignorant.
Only a gheetto c woreep.uld use that sort of language. Is that how you intend to improve things?
Is your langage a sign of the new cultural attitude that you ghetto cruds intend to impose on us? If so, keep it. We don't want your street trash here.
Obama is not qualified to be a secretary, let alone a President. He sent his little minions out to see what all of the sheeple wanted to hear and had some good speech writers work it into his speeches in a way that made the mass-retards believe in it while making sure to avoid any issue about "how" he would/could make any of it happen. Now you will see why. It is impossible for him to keep a single one of his promises because they are impossibilities. Our economy would be exactly the same had Obama been in office for the last 8 years and it will crash like it does every 10 years or so, that is the downside to capitalism. The only difference now is that Iran and Russia are already gearing up to put a choke hold on oil and know fully well that within 2 years we will not have the military might to do anything about it, nor will we have a president with the backbone to stand against his own shadow. The first actions of any democrat is to cut military spending to fund the support for all the baby-mamas and bums that would rather get hand-outs instead of working. Just like Clinton, we will be the push-overs of the planet with all bark and no bite. Towns that now thrive will become deserted by base closures and drawbacks and unemployment will boom. BTW, I make more than 250k, by a long shot, and guess what, there is nothing he can do to increase the amount of taxes I pay. I never have to pay taxes, just like all people that are well off. We shelter and invest that money so when tax time roles around, we get refunds while those making 30-50k a year will have to pay even more to make up the difference. All I will have to do is put another $1000 a year into an IRA or donate 2 or 3 computers to a school. Any of you idiots that fell for his crock of crap are going to deserve everything you lose over the next 4 years and it will be people like me that will get to rake you over the coals for being stupid enough to vote for a waste of skin like obama. And no, his color has nothing to do with it since I am black, just not as stupid as so many others. The country now officially sucks a**.
MissE, I am also amused by the logic that if someone black votes for someone that happens to be black that they are racist, but it is perfectly OK for these dissenters to vote for people in THEIR race.
You know, all of you people that are suddenly cursing the same America that you accused everyone else of hating, Canada has some vacancies...
Koukla50-What time does your next Klan meeting begin. Obama hasn't promised anything to "Blacks" but he has promised "Hope" for Americans who have been bereft of any for the last 8 years. Perhaps the most shameful, greed ridden, moneygrabbing looting with glee, by Republicans, time, ever seen by this Country.
Gee, do you think the Texas Oilman could have left the cupboard more bare?? And when do naysayers like you pounce on Obama, for not fixing his predecessors mess that took 8 years to make?? 2 Months?? 4 Months?? Where was your concern for the last 8 years??
Oh please. You think we want them up here in Canada?
By the way, HUGE congratulations to America, and especially Obama - oops! - President Elect Obama, I believe it's called? If you want to send anyone up here to Canada, send him. :) We'd love to have such a great leader up here.
We're proud of our neighbours in the southern half of North America (and that itty bitty north-west piece) and wish you all the best of luck for the next four years.
Koukla50, I really do not understand what you are talking about when you refer to the "black needs," unless you have a deep seated fear that he is going to declare special pricing on sickle cell anemia medications. I am pretty sure that it is the responsibility of ALL presidents to take care of the needs of ALL Americans, and I am also sure that all citizens have the same needs. I can understand your confusion, as our most recent president has provided only for the needs of himself, his family and his close friends, all of whom are no doubt white, but I assure you, that is not how it is supposed to work, Bush is definitely in a class by himself when it comes to treating citizens in a separate but unequal way. Nonetheless, I am completely confident that President Obama WILL take special care of the needs of America's black citizens just as I expect he will take care of the special needs of the rest of us.
As Bob Dylan would say, "the times, they are a-changin." Good Job America!
First some of you are screaming and getting upset that he's called "black"; then you turn around and say "I sure hope he doesn't just cater to the black people"...if he isn't black, according to you, t hen why would he cater to the blacks? Try to stay on one page if you are able to.
and for notasheep, you say you have black, white, etc. in you, then you go on to say you are only human...can I ask you how you know you have black in you, or white, if you only see people as human? How did you know any of your ancestors were black? didn't you see them as human only? oh oh.
what exactly are the "black needs"?
Obama is a spin doctor, nothing more. How many times and for how many years has a canadate stepped up to a podium and PROMISED that he was going to change everthing? The thing that people seem to forget is not every Democrat shares his same ideals. I do wish him luck, because he is sure going to need it.
Keep whining.....Keep whining.....
Sore losers that dont know Presidential from a can of paint......or a piece of crap......which is why you almost elected one...
But, as I predicted and MADE KNOWN EVERY single day on these Boards for the last 6 months.....OBAMA IS MR. PRESIDENT....Now, bow down!!!!
Arent you the ones stating that he would NEVER win? That the country wasnt ready for a "black President"......Well, you have been PROVEN WRONG.....I told you that your children made certain that your "winner" became the loser! How does it feel????????
So why the flip would we listen to anything else you had to say?
You are the bottom half in my book.
Nah, nah, nah, nah....hey, hey, hey GOODBYE!!
Hello, beautiful, BLACK Obama family........
Living the Dream.....40 years later.....this is what my ancestors died for....and you good for nothing sourpusses can NEVER TAKE THIS AWAY FROM ME OR MY PPL!!!
Maybe every Democrat doesn't share his ideas, but obviously enough of them did to elect him as our 44th president. But keep in mind there must be some Republicans that share those ideas as well. And maybe there are enough Americans that share those ideas too, because if they didn't McCain would be the President-elect, BUT HE"S NOT. I wish him luck too, I also wish him well because I know there are a lot of people out there that are hoping that he fails. And the sad thing about that is if he doe fail - who will suffer - we will. Now how stupid is that?
He stepped up to the podium and promised change. The simple fact is, because he DID step up to the podium last night as the victor, it has CHANGED ALREADY!!
ObamaDiva,
It's sad that your postings are screaming the fact that you and many others voted for Obama simply because of his skin color. I am embarrassed that there are so many shallow Americans that are now saying how proud they are of this country yet they elected a man who refuses to salute our flag for which so many Americans gave their lives and the possibility that someone like Obama could be elected. It is truly a sad day!
do you know how many people voted for McCain solely because of his color? Too many to count, sadly. In fact, my own republican parents did. They also just disowned my two sisters b/c they found out that my sisters voted for "the n *****" (their word, not mine).
I'm next on their chopping block. I voted for Obama, too. Isn't it sweet? Disowning your children because of the way they voted?
bigger, sadly I think too many people voted this way. Ignoring the real issues and not taking the time to find out who the candidates were, what they stood for and their positions on the problems we're having right now. Voting mostly based on the color of the candidates skin. I'm not saying your parents weren't informed but I don't think enough of the voters took the time to find out. My family included. They didn't totally disown me, but I did get talked about because I didn't vote Obama. I just didn't agree with his views and I am a democrat, but that wasn't enough to base my vote on. And I think that as the American public that's why we are given the right to vote. It's our responsibilty to be educated and informed about the candidates and vote based on our opinion of them ruling our nation for 4 years, not on the color of their skin.
The media and Obama's campaign successfully tied McCain to the Bush Administration with dismal approval ratings which, of course, was their goal.. This election became a refferendum on Bush where the result was never in doubt. The sorry truth is that nothing could be further from the truth.. Check out the 2000 Republican Primaries to see the real McCain vrs. Bush and their major differences.. Can McCain's thoughts and policies really be tied to Bush?? I don't think so..
Maybe if he hadn't voted with Bush 91% of the time after being punked by him in 2000, your theory would be more plausible, but it isn't.
The best predictor of future behavior is past behavior, and 91% wasn't going to help him. He made is bed and now he has to lay in it.
Bill-698733,
Check out Rolling Stone magazine's Oct. 16, 2008 "Make-Believe Maverick" article and see the REAL John McCain.....
Idi,
I am white and from the south and I've never heard that statement, much less said it. Fact is, he's as much white as he is black. I don't have a problem with his race; I have a problem with the fact that SOOOOOO many people voted for him, simply because of his race. I'm so sick of hearing that "we've" elected the first black president, when what "we've" actually done is elected the first bi-racial president. I'm not naive enough to think that McCain was the right choice, but of the two we had to choose from, he was the right choice for me, and it had nothing to do with the color of his skin. It had everything to do with the belief that Obama will do more bad for me than good.
Bill, McCain is a horrible choice in part because of the fact that in 2000 he was so different. The McCain of 2000 is every bit the tax-the-rich socialist you all accuse Obama of being (and hate him because of it). The 2000 McCain was also against overturning Roe v. Wade. Again, how can you in good conscience dislike Obama for the same views McCain holds?
But let's explore this further. Sometime after 2004, when McCain began thinking of running for office again, he started voting in lockstep with president bush. Had he changed? If so, then he earned the McBush accusations and you have no argument. If he had NOT truly changed, then he was being deceptive - playing political games - voting on things he truly didn't believe in. Is that the kind of politician you really want in office?
The fact remains that you don't know which McCain you would have gotten on January 20, and neither does McCain.
How sad.
I believe his victory was all due to the attitude and policies of the failed Bush Administration. Americans wanted change from the fear tactics always used by the Bush Administration to an ttitude of hope. In addition, people are concerned about how badly the Bush Administration dealt with the rest of the world now that the world is getting smaller and we live in a global economy. The so called "Republican Base" is an extremely right wing, mostly evangelical Christian group that more moderate Christians like myself are getting very tired of with their narrow minded social views and no tolerance for any views other than their own.
The James Dobsons of this country are being replaced by the Rick Warrens, with a more truly Bibical view of social conditions and needs.
Hallelujah Brother (or Sister)!!!
Don't slam James Dobson!! A man who had stood for Biblical principles for many years shoudl be honored, not insulted. I have the ultimate respect for anyone who dedicates their life to the ministry like Dr. Dobson. In the Bible we are instructed to care for the preachers and prophets, not treat them to the statement "Out with the old and in with the new." I fear what O'Bama will bring to this country. We were already headed down in our morals. Now we've put the King of Immorality in charge of the most powerful nation in the world. All I keep saying is "Please, God, help us."
James Dobson advocates beating your children. God (which doesn't exist) doesn't belong in politics anyway. I don't believe in God and I've never been in jail, had an STD, cheated on a girlfriend, killed anyone, bilked a bunch of elderly stock holders out of their retirement . . . how many good God fearing pedophiles are out there? Just wondering.
No he does not....what he believes in is discipline.
Here is a clue for you the sin of mankind Christian or not, is not the fault of God. The sins of mankind are thier own weaknesses and perversions. God is not a puppeteer. A Christian is still a human being and is tempted by the desires of the flesh...how he or she handles this depends on many reasons. I believe in God, I have never been to jail, never had a STD, I have never cheated on my husband, never killed anyone, and I have not stolen money from the elderly or anyone else. As far as pedophiles are concerned, they will face judgement believers or not. And God is on the money you earn and spend, in the foundation of right and wrong that is the basis for law in this country, and is one of the reasons this country was established, and is my civil right to believe in and speak of God in reletion to any subject I choose the same way it is yours to not believe and to speak of that.
Well said Diane.....from another believer who has not cheated on his spouse, killed anyone, been to jail, had an std, or stolen money from the elderly.
Amen D. DuBois. I am sooo tired of these self proclaimed "real" Christians, like Dobson (and Palin for that matter). I have no idea what Jesus they think they know, because my sweet Saviour is not impressed by folks who go around bragging that they are the best Christians while bearing false witness against others, nor does he think much of folks who claim to be "pro-Life" while supporting the death penalty, making war and going around shooting his moose, wolves and other creatures. My Lord mentioned something about not killing, and pride going before a fall (Palin?). He also clearly stated that you are not to set yourself before others because of your proclamations of faith. I also believe that Jesus (also a community organizer, actually) who preached love and kindness, would be heartbroken to see the ugliness done in his name. It is time for Christians who actually believe in the things Jesus taught, which I am pretty sure does not include racism or shouting "Kill Him," to take back our faith. It was for just this reason that the founders of this country declared a separation of church and state.
Please take the Bible as a whole - don't use it to fit your liberal agenda. God repeatedly called for the punishment of sin - including death and spanking. (even if you don't like them) God also formed each of us in our mother's womb with a life and a plan for us, he never intended for us to kill our children to maintain our lifestyle. (mother Teresa called that true poverty)
The founders of our country did NOT declare a separation of church and state. Read the Bill of Rights. It states "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. " The phrase "wall of separation between the church and the state" was originally coined by Thomas Jefferson in a letter to the Danbury Baptists on January 1, 1802. His purpose in this letter was to assuage the fears of the Danbury, Connecticut Baptists, and so he told them that this wall had been erected to protect them. The metaphor was used exclusively to keep the state out of the church's business, not to keep the church out of the state's business.
Perhaps the U.S. should pull out of Chicago?
Body count:
In the last six months:
292 killed (murdered) in Chicago ;
221 killed in Iraq .
Chicago.... Who Runs it:
Senators: Barack Obama & Dick Durbin
Rep: Jesse Jackson Jr.,
Illinois Gov: Rod Blogojevich,
Illinois House leader Mike Madigan,
Illinois Atty. Gen. Lisa Madigan (daughter of Mike),
Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley (son of Mayor Richard J. Daley)
.....our leadership in Illinois ....all Democrats.
Thank you for the combat zone in Chicago .
Of course, they're all blaming each other!
Can't blame Republicans; they're aren't any!
State pension fund $44 Billion in debt, worst in country.
Cook County ( Chicago ) sales tax 10.25% highest in country. (Look 'em up if you want).
Chicago school system rated one of the worst in the country.
This is the political culture that Obama comes from in Illinois . And he's gonna 'fix' Washington politics for us?
You are so correct. I'm not black so i don't expect to get anything from obama, but screwed. He needs to go back to kenya, where he was born, and take over their government. Only in America could a person who isn't even a citizen run over people and steal an election. I guess his muslim background taught him how to destroy a country.
Still spreading lies, hate and fear? Maybe you are the one who needs to leave the country, since most of us think you are just Palin stupid! AND, you still don't have your facts straight! You are a sad, sad, LITTLE person!
How were that many people killed in Chicago? Don't they have a gun ban? LOL
Say "what?" to "Sad in Tennessee." You bought the fear rhetoric hook line and sinker. I'm sorry for you. Time to read other papers and broaden your horizons.
Well hate to burst your negativity bubble, but Chicago is not the only city, and Illinois is not the only state that is suffering with such issues, it is NATIONWIDE and as he mentioned, we will ALL change this nation, not him single-handedly. If you aren't satisfied and too lazy to help with the effort, you can always move to Alaska and be closer to the Russians.
Sad in Tennessee: He was born in Hawaii and a US Senator. Did you graduation from kindergarten or are you seriously this ignorant? Perhaps you can move to Cuba or Alaska because we don't need the negative energy of those like yourself.
Love your analogy Omnicron77; however, I doubt seriously that many or most of the obama supporters have the ability to comprehend exactly what it is you are trying to get across in your post.
Brace yourselves America! Change is coming and it's not the bright and shiny, happy change you envision. It's gonna be one helluva roller coaster ride the next four years.
Sad in tennesee: whats sd is your ignorance this is 2008 almost 2009 allow your mindto catch up with the rest of the orld or you will remain sad forever...........
Your racist rhetoric is why Obama won not just blacks but whites and all races voted for him he didnt haveto steal nothing MCCAin never hd a chance especially afte picking Sarah Palin....
NOT a citizen you say? MCcain was the one born in Panama Obama was born right here..... according to the constitution mccain wasntevn suppose to run for office he is not a natural born citizen get your facts straight.............
And just being REAL this country originally belonged to the indians not whites and definitely not blacks .............it will take te indian o tell you about that or just read your history books......so with that being said what hppened lst night was GREAT it howed that wha the constitution stands for all all the equality and what America is about actually has come full circle and is true.............It would take a person wih compassion fo their fellow man despite gender , race , or creed to understand that...........the compassion and love that God himself talks about in the bible THAT compassion..........And so now America has spoken.....and not will it be better for us as a people but the world will embrace us once again.........the division is now becoming united on all fronts...things will never be looke at the same anymore......
And to my African Americans or any minorities their is no excuse for anyone to say that they cant make it or the Government or white people have kept you down Barack erased that type of rhetoric last night.............
the media has to eventually take their share of the blame. they refused to hold hussein responsibe for anything; his liberation organization for 20 years, his ties with domestic terrorists, his filtering $$ to his own wife via the hospital deal, his excuses for all his poor judgements, and the list goes on. he is a control freak, and we will all suffer the consequences.
You know, if the truth really would have been investigated, instead of swept under the rug, a lot of Americans would probably be a lot more comfortable right now. People know about the recording of Obama's Kenyan grandmother attesting to the fact that she witnessed his birth in Kenya. As it goes from there, his parents were supposed to fly to Hawaii before his birth, but it was too late in the pregnancy. It is stated that he was born in Kenya, and afterwards they went to Hawaii, where they stated he was born and obtained the certificate of birth. In 1961, this would have been very possible to do. If Obama would have cleared these issues up, insteading of ignoring them, his credibility would not have been in question. People tend to ignore things that they don't want to face. He ignored them, because they could not be proved untrue.
Please tell me how this is Obama's fault ... you seem to imply because he is the Senator that he runs Chicago. Don't think so. Also, if you lived in Chicago would you be for gun control? Cast stones at your own risk!
Thank you. Someone not afraid to speak truths despite who actually was elected. People bought into "history" and the bs that Obama spewed. I think this country is in for a boatload of trouble like we've never seen before. Check out how his energy policies will increase your electric bill 70% (and guess what, us middle class people won't get any HEAP or welfare assistance to help pay, but I bet I know who will! people who don't want to work!)
shipunkchic you are an idiot. HERE'S the truth about welfare: the overwhelming majority of people who get on welfare get OFF welfare within 6 to 12 months. THAT IS THE TRUTH STUPIDS! And why is it great to help a bunch of people in another country who don't work but not in our own?
Perhaps, Omnicron, you should 'pull out' of the U.S, and contain your losses.
I saw a multitude of violence last night, in Chicago, you intellectually challenged statistics spewer, err, sewer.
Get a clue..join the process to rebuild and heal, don't become, or rather, continue, to be the problem we all will have to go out and fix, agasin! Get busy helping, or get busy crying. It's over for people of your scarred vision,,which is no vision at all! Go away.
I just wonder why we didn't hear any of this during the election or why good investigative reporters were not able to get this information out to the public, or question Obama about it. Never mind I already know why.
As a person proudly originating from the State of Alabama, I am embarrassed FOR you "Satan Loves You!", and for your backwards thinking State of Mind. I hope that in my lifetime, we'll see people who think, speak and act like you deported to YOUR own country of origin (NONE of us are originally FROM the U.S.!!), so that you can spew your venom there, amongst your "own kind" of humans without sense and sensibility. I'll pray for you "Satan lover", and hope that your brain is recoverable from the years of hatred, bigotry, and, mostly likely, DOPE YOU SMOKED!!! I find it HILARIOUS that those who claim to be part of the Republican "Conservative" and more "Evangelical", "God-Loving" crowdl consistently defame and demean God's other wonderful human creations that happened to be a different color or origin than "they" are. If your kind had been so perfect, God wouldn't have chosen to diversify his mighty people from color to languages to cultures, etc. I praise God that President Obama has set such a wonderful example for everyone who truly loves America and our fellow Americans REGARDLESS OF COLOR OR RELIGION! Back to Hell, Satan!!!!
ya'll are a bunch of dumb ass white people.........All of Obama votes were from whites.
nice, mstvigne, nice...but WRONG. Do you live in a bubble? Not all of his votes were from whites! But, yes, a lot of them were.
Satan...your "truth" is simply not true. There are a large number of people who prefer to be on welfare, who live for $8 rent/mon, who receive a utility check to pay their bill, who buy their groceries with food stamps and who are quite capable of holding a job but prefer not to...except for about 2 weeks out of the year so they can file a tax return and get their EITC. And this IS the truth...my job depends on me knowing this is the truth.
James4Obama...seriously? McCain was born on an Naval base in Panama...which makes him as much of a citizen as you and I. That was just a plain ignorant statement.
Sad in Tennessee,
I was born and raised in Tennessee and I'm so glad I left as fast as I could. There are too many ignorant, small-minded people like you. My husband is military and I've had the opportunity to live all over the world and meet great people from all walks of life. You've probably never left your back yard and get all your "facts" from your cousin Bubba.
First off Barack has never practiced Islam. He was raised by his white mother. He is an American citizen and never even had a relationship with his African father.
You should be sad. I would be too if I was that sheltered.
im white no biggie. this whole race issue is expected. for the first time in a long time i feel like we as country is on its way for a great change. also, black people stood in line to vote becouse they want change, and they can tell their children yes you can be president you can be anyone you want! america was missing out on a lot of great leaders for a long time becouse of it's one sidedness. when i finally think we as a country are meshing and the racisim is diminishing-people need to spew hate. you should be ashamed of yourselves.
Our Tax System Explained: Bar Stool Economics
Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:
The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.
The fifth would pay $1.
The sixth would pay $3.
The seventh would pay $7.
The eighth would pay $12.
The ninth would pay $18.
The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.
So, that's what they decided to do.
The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve. 'Since you are all such good customers,' he said, 'I'm going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by $20.' Drinks for the ten now cost just $80.
The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes so the first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free.
But what about the other six men - the paying customers? How could they divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his 'fair share?'
They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody's share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid to drink his beer.
So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man's bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay.
And so:
The fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings).
The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33%savings).
The seventh now pay $5 instead of $7 (28%savings).
The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings).
The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% savings).
The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings).
Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to drink for free. But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings.
'I only got a dollar out of the $20,'declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man,' but he got $10!'
'Yeah, that's right,' exclaimed the fifth man. 'I only saved a dollar, too.
It's unfair that he got ten times more than I got' 'That's true!!' shouted the seventh man. 'Why should he get $10 back when I got only two? The wealthy get all the breaks!'
'Wait a minute,' yelled the first four men in unison. 'We didn't get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!'
The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.
The next night the tenth man didn't show up for drinks so the nine sat down and had beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn't have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill!
And that, ladies and gentlemen, journalists and college professors, is how our tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might start drinking overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier.
For those who understand, no explanation is needed.
For those who do not understand, no explanation is possible.
A better example would be paying for bread!
absolutely love your analogy. there will be relatively few, who read your post, that will understand what it means.
this is another cut and paste that has been posted over and over. Try to find an original thought please. if this repetition is all you can bring to the conversation, go take a nap or something.
I like beer and have many friends (high and low) that do too. Now lets get into the details of this beer drinking:
The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing and get micholob light in the can (outdated and can no longer be legally sold).
The fifth would pay $1 and get a bud light in the can.
The sixth would pay $3 and get a bud in a drinking glass.
The seventh would pay $7 and get a local microbrew in a pint.
The eighth would pay $12 and get a generic import in a pilsner glass.
The ninth would pay $18 and get a name brand import in crystal.
The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59 and get a custon brewed belgium ale from a special cooler to keep it at the right temperature served in a specially made glass by the brewery to enhance the flavor.
The amount people pay should reflect that quality of use.
If a man can not afford to drive his own car why should he pay taxes to repair the road? If a couple has no children why should they pay taxes to support the public schools? If someone drives 1000 miles a week should they not pay more than the person who drives 10? Should the family with 10 kids pay more for the use of the school bus then the family with 2 kids? Face it, the quality of our lives increases with the amount of money we acquire so the taxes we pay are based on that quality.
thank you.
It's super ugly to hate so much.
Amen. But we, who don't drink, still pay for those who don't work do drink. Our tax system isn't equitable. Our culture promotes some thing for nothing. Any time you take from one to make another have more, you destroy the incentive of both. And for those of you who think I am rich, I am. For those of you who think I am poor, I am. I have been both. I have seen a time where I didn't have 50 cents to ride a bus. I have also seen a time when I could pay cash for a Lexus. Neither time have I ever thought that someone else should be responsible for my situation. I am still both. I have a rich live, and poor understanding of why so few are responsible for so many. I don't want to be poor anymore. Don't get me wrong, there are obstacles, but they are not insurmontable. The election of one so young and inexperienced to the office of President adds an exclamation point to that sentence!
You must have a degree in circular stupidity. I don't understand, and the wealthy people are already overseas drinking. What is your excuse, Einstein?
Omnicron77,
Let the rich go drink overseas. They'll be paying even more taxes there!
Obama hasn't set one foot inside the White House yet and people already on this blog "feel so much better and are at ease". To those of you 'feel~goodies' out there; let the man do the job YOU elected him to do after January 20th. Until then (and after) I pray that God will still bless America. For we need it now more than ever.
The reason people "feel better" is because the end is finally in sight for the worst president EVER! I'm still looking for ONE thing George has done as president that benefited 95% of Americans, I've been looking for eight years and have still come up empty. George & Co. are working to deregulated as much as they can by rewriting rules and procedures for every agency. One of the nastiest is changing regulations so that mountain bikers can ride the hiking trails in parks. I can't wait to get run over by one of these maniacs. One of them will probably George! It must be nice to change rules for yourself.
What about his reaction to 9/11? Everyone was all "let's go get 'em!" after the attack but when it took longer than anyone expected, then it's oh so bad. He also reduced the taxes on people who are successful and strive to be better and contribute to society. He extended unemployment benefits back in 2003 an extra 12 weeks, he gave out a stimulus package for families with children that same year. You're not one of the welfare ones that are finally happy you'll get more money, food stamps and "free" stuff that taxpayers have to pay for are you?
His reaction to 9/11? He was, more than likely, the cause of 9/11. And now we are supposed to think of him as being heroic? He did what he was supposed to do during 9/11. Nothing more.
So if some crazy person attacks the White House and Pentagon in September next year, will that be Obama's fault? And to that end, was Clinton the cause of the attack to the USS Cole or the attach on the tower before? Be intelligent, and pick your arguments based on facts, not raw emotion. Children slap back. Adults debate.
Clinton's administration has the blame for that.... And while I am sure that President Bush made some decisions that he should not have made or that I have disagreed with, I am curious about how this country will feel about Obama after he is President for awhile. Over the span of my lifetime I have heard one Presidential campaign after another make much the same promises that Obama made in his campaign and the political party affiliation did not matter. Change doesn't mean change for the better. A socialistic system does not work well for or with a free enterprise system.
I'm curious as to why supposedly intelligent people think Bush has so much control? Has government changed and I didn't get the memo or does Congress not have the ultimate voice? The media can make some people believe anything!
Hopefully, instead of the American people (whatever nationality/ethnicity you are) being so pessimistic, negative and sometimes hateful as we are. Maybe we can look at Obama's presidential-elect as an opportunity for ALL OF US!!
He was rasied by strong, morally sound family ties, (which he is verbally appreciative), and with our support, whether you are a Democrat or not, we can make a difference in our world and our history.
Many countries have issues with us BECAUSE we are a racist nation, one that claims there is opportunity, but the faces of most "great" opportunities remains the same. Maybe now we can make peace with other countries showing them WE ARE ONE!!
You guys with your "smug" attitudes and "snide remarks" truly need to WAKE UP!! AMERICA IS TOO DIVERSE FOR YOU TO STILL THINK SO SMALL!! And Republicans have lied consistently about the economy, about taxes, etc. Hell, the war in Iraq, benefited Bush and Cheney more than anyone else in this country (with the oil companies). We are in this financial MESS due to greed and BAD CHOICES.
We need CHANGE and Obama brings this.
STOP WHINING!!! Just be happy you lived to see it, and now you can tell your children and grandchildren that you were apart of the "shift in history".
That man will do WHAT EVER HE CAN to keep his word. HE said he will be honest as he moves forward about the choices that are made. He wants us to be apart of the decisions. He told Republicans HE HEARS YOU!! He wants ALL OF US to progress!!! He wants the NATION to move forward!! He's not out for "self", like unfortunately, alot of Republicans/GOP are.
What the hell MORE do you want from the guy!! Hell, give the guy a chance! He can't F** up the economy any more than Bush did.
GOD BLESS!!
you wrote: "HE said he will be honest...", as honest as when he said he will not accept private donations?
Oh yeah he can mess it up even worse, I assure you... you sure carry a huge burden... why don't you lay it down and see how much freer you feel. Angry words like, "
You guys with your "smug" attitudes and "snide remarks" truly need to WAKE UP!! AMERICA IS TOO DIVERSE FOR YOU TO STILL THINK SO SMALL!! And Republicans have lied consistently about the economy, about taxes, etc. Hell, the war in Iraq, benefited Bush and Cheney more than anyone else in this country (with the oil companies). won't get you listened to by those of us who you want to reach. And really aren't you the one spewing? Were you able to do anything about it before this election using this languaging? You think your spewing now makes you better than the ones you hatefully bash??? I look at you like an irrational crazy guy who wants more than he can get. I'm just saying you get more with honey than with that huge load you dumped!
My question to you is, (BTW I am and Independet) but why should Republicans give Obama any respect, when Democrats never gave the sitting Republican President any? Like Geroge Bush or not, people never even respected the office of the President which I was always taught is always more than just the person holding the position.
And by the way I did vote for a president my choice my business. But that is the biggest question I have now.
This comment has been thus so far the best I have read. It's arrogant and selfish how the filthy goes on and on. Obama is the beginning mark of a NEW CHANGE for AMERICA. Instead of us speaking down on the man, lets first examine ourself and then look at what goes on in our homes, then the neighbhorhood, the schools, the jobs. Can we actually say that this is not enough and that EVERYTHING is fine the way it is. I 100% agree with what you are emphasizing. However, we must know and remember that it is going to get worse before it gets better only because Obama has to fix every screw up Bush left behind. But I'm willing to live through the mess to see the CLEAN!!!
You are an idiot. Take a look at what he has done. NOTHING. His own state is an example of what he can do. God help us all with what he is planning on doing while president. The guy is a joke and those who voted for him took it hook line and sinker.
Ray Lopez, Olympia, WA said "My question to you is, (BTW I am and Independet) but why should Republicans give Obama any respect, when Democrats never gave the sitting Republican President any? "
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
George earned every bit of the disrespect he got from the time he took office until the time he FINALLY leaves. He has spent MORE than 1-1/2 years of his time in the office of the presidency ON VACATION. His staff limited him to two or three meetings over 15 minutes each day because he would lose interest in the discussion. PLEASE do not tell me to respect such a non-achiever. He never would have been President in the first place if Rehnquist hadn't shuffled the incumbent president aside so he could appoint George. I DON'T NOR WILL I EVER RESPECT CHEATERS!!!
Besides George only liked winning elections, he did not like the job of president so he did it poorly!
And Obumma has earned disrespect for the scurilous way he conducted his campaign. What about Andrea @!$%#ell's obvious grin this morning when she reported the victory--any questions?
Not only that, but from the time Clinton stepped into office, the Republicans hounded him 24/7. They launched investigation after investigation looking for illegal doings over a long done deal called "Whitewater". Nothing was found. Finally, they found a foul deed done in the White House that involved an intern and they backed him into a corner and, embarrassed, Bill tried to cover up his dirty deed with a lie that he did not "have sex with that woman" and they got him on a perjury charge.
I'm not going to defend Bill Clinton's act - but the fact that the Republicans would not stop with the constant "investigations" and spending MILLIONS of dollars to do so.
Is it ANY wonder that Democrats are still bitter towards Republicans? Is it ANY wonder that they still view the 2000 elections as nothing more than a stolen election? After all the crap Georgie pulled - yeah - we have plenty of reasons to be angry still.
And Lucy: "And Obumma has earned disrespect for the scurilous way he conducted his campaign."
What planet are you on?
Who's rallies had people stirred up enough to shout out "Kill him!" "Terrorist!" "Treasonist!" "Off with his head!" ?
Hmm?
MomandWife - Hopefully, instead of the American people (whatever nationality/ethnicity you are) being so pessimistic, negative and sometimes hateful as we are. Maybe we can look at Obama's presidential-elect as an opportunity for ALL OF US!!

Who's being negative?
Why won't Obama salute the flag and put his hand over his heart when our national anthem is being played?
I think that says volumes about him............don't be surprised when he drives our Country even farther into the ground.
Barack will become the Greatest American President to date..When he accomplishes this feat
the Race Haters (who are insecure) still will not give him CREDIT.... So he has to just do
what's best for America and move on....8 years of Bush who did nothing for anyone except
His RICH Cronies. This is the 21st Century and the Young White People are not incumbent by
their Grandparents and Parents Hang-ups......Hooray!!! A NEW DAY HAS DAWNED A BRIGHTER
DAY FOR AMERICA...WE ALL HAVE WON...CONGRATS PRESIDENT OBAMA....and the People
Why is it that anyone that didn't vote for him is racist? I could care less about his color. What I care about is the people (both white and black) I'll have to lay off because of his taxes.
jkenny,
If you have to lay anyone off because of the way you perceive President-elect Obama's tax policy, then you truly have no business running a business. Your business acumen is either extremely small or non-existent. If you have had any success at all, it must have surely been through luck alone, because it certainly wasn't through brains!
Your living in a dream world. Race has nothing to do with it. I don't care if he is purple. The only change you are going to see is the change leaving your pockets!
You two must be "Joe the Plumber" types. He was a fraud incase you missed that part. Did you REALLY add more jobs when you got your tax cuts from George? Di you pay MORE than the minimum wage? Did you offer benefits to your employees? If you are like the majority of rich people who got George's tax cuts, you spent all that extra money on toys and status symbols. 750,000 jobs created in eight years under George Bush...I wouldn't be bragging about that if I were you
And the young black race is also not incumbent by history and stories of their parents and grandparents ? They should be.......... no child can exist without guidance. If you don't believe that, may I remind you of the children of the street, gangs and throwaway children. Race relations still have a long way to go if we believe one race has a right to be angry and the rest are " race haters." Exactly how do you determine who is a race hater, and what qualifications must one have? Surely, disagreeing on a person's qualifications doesn't make me a racist, does it?
Renee, you are very wrong. I own a business and employ several dozen people. I am also black and a firm believer in the pure stupidity of people that like obama. I am also one of those he claims he will raise taxes on and as anyone with brains will tell you, it is impossible to get more tax money out of people of wealth than they feel like paying. My personal taxes are sheltered and I get refunds. I will also have to lay off 1 out of 4 employees as well as raise the cost of the services I provide to accomodate the tax hikes he intends for corporate entities. Any legislation passed that says I have to provide health care beyond what I already do for my employees will mean that I, like most others, will remove all employees from salaried/wage employee status to private contractor status and make them handle their own taxes without me having to spend any of my money on tax-matching and not be required to provide healthcare to any of them. The end result, more lost jobs, lower pay and still no addition health care. That is reality and that is why obama is going to screw this country far more than anyone could ever imagine. If you wanted to help the people, you cut the corporate taxes, provide companies with funds to offset employer provided healthcare and give us a reason to hire instead of fire and expand instead of cut back.
Now, since anyone with an IQ higher than their age knows that it is impossible to get addition tax money from the rich or from corporations, who do you think will end up footing the bill for the massive "urban" and welfare programs that are coming? The same ones that did during Clinton, those in the 25-50k income brackets and you are a flaming fool if you think otherwise. There is a reason that obama won because of the sudden influx of new voters, they are too young and inexperienced to know when they are being fed crap and were not around to remember the disaster that Clinton caused for everyone but the non-working and the wealthy.
touche laffinatfools, well said
My God does anyone not have morals any more. First of all if all the people out there that say they believe in God would have voted for God then Obama would have not been elected African American or not. How can we vote for a man that kills babies...Also for all of those that think this historyin the making you are naive. We just dated ourselves by 50 years. When you vote for a man because of the color of his skin and not the issues then you are racist either way so all of those that hit the polls and voted because Obama has the same skin color you are as racist as the KKK. I pray for this country and all those out there that dont know that Obama is not the ....saviour Jesus Christ is...
jkenny,
The corporations already lay people off when they move jobs overseas because they don't feel they should have to pay for their fair share of taxes. Obama is going to stop giving tax breaks to companies that send jobs overseas.
Also, in case you haven't been paying attention, if you make less than $200,000 a year, you will actually pay less taxes. And if you make more than $200,000 then stop complaining about taxes. Don't you have something better to complain about, like how your neighbor has more toys than you?
lafinatfools,
Corporations wouldn't have to lay people off if they cut back in other areas besides labor. When Southwest Airlines were having trouble, they didn't lay people off. They asked extra of their employees but the CEO also made sacrifices as well. He took a paycut so he wouldn't have lay off employees.
The reason allot of these corporations lay people off is because they are greedy. It has nothing to do with taxes. Taxes are just an excuse. There are so many other areas where cuts can be made - reduce excesive CEO pay; get rid of the lavish hotels, vacations, entertainment, etc...
can afford to pay more taxes if they wouldn't pay their CEOs several hundred million a year.
military wife,
I am the one and only executive officer in my company. We have no lavish hotel, vacation or entertainment budgets. I rely on tax breaks and other federal incentives to be able to grow every year, offer yearly cost of living raises, Christmas bonus' and the like. I also provide healthcare and 401k for salaried employees but not for hourly ones. When my tax breaks end or my requirements to provide more than I do now start, the only thing that will change is that ALL employees will have to be changed to private contractors and provide their own insurance, pay their own taxes without my matching and take over their own 401k, again, with no matching funds from me. All bonus' will stop and raises will go to a strict performace basis with no allowance for yearly COL adjustments. That is what will have to be done to ensure that I can continue to grow and stay competetive. I will not risk what I have worked decades for and I will not "make due with less" for my family because of it. And when it comes time to cut back on the jobs, the ones that were so vocal about wanting "change" are damn well going to get it.
Chances are more than good that there will be no changes since obama already started to backpeddle to cover his ass when it comes out that he really intends on doing nothing that he promised he would. It is an impossibility for him to keep the promises he made and the reason he never gave a clue as to how he would do them is because he already knew they could not be done. His speech writers knew how to write to fool the mass numbers of ignorant sheeple that would giggle in delight at hearing what they wanted to hear but not having the brains to ask "how?". Like it or not, the reality is that if you voted for obama, you are mentally and intellectually defective and gullible beyond belief. You could have dressed BoBo the dancing chimp in a tie and a diaper and beaten the republicans this time because of how the mass stupidity factor took hold of people that are too young to know better and thought that Bush could have had anything to do with our current economical situation. Those that don't know that this exact same thing happens in any capitalist economy about once a decade, no matter who is in the White House. It happened in 01, 91, 80, 72 and on back as far as you want to go. High gas prices spurred it along a little quicker than normal but all in all, the bulk of the blame lays squarely on the shoulders of the consumer. Sure, mortgage companies did some pretty evil things, but a person should have enouogh sense to know when they can or can not afford something one year when they couldn't afford it the year before with the same income. The got what they deserved, especially if they were stupid enough to get and adjustable rate note. Thin the herd and get rid of the ones that pollute the gene pool.
You seem to be mentally and intellectually defective, gullibe as well as dillusional. Obama stated he will end tax cuts for companies that creates jobs overseas. If your a business is in the US you wouldn't see a tax cut. A business that is overseas pays their workers a hell of lot less that an American worker in the US. So if you are a business that creates jobs overseas, bring your business back to the US and you will break even.
No - he won because the liberal press canonized the man and tried to everything within its power to discredit the McCain team. I hope you are happy reporting America's demise into a welfare state. I know that I will leave my job and put my hand out for money that I don't deserve.
You were not watching the same media I was.........
What were you watching? Al Jezeer?
right on
I have never had so much hope for the future, as I do today! I am so very proud that I voted for Barack Obama! To the people who promoted the hate and fear on this forum, I say we must come together so we can move forward together! President Obama will need all of our help! President Obama did not win because of the biased media, he won because people believed in hope, instead of fear. He won because people believed that we could be a United nation. Not left, not right, but United as one America! You will always have people like Susan who continue to look back, instead of looking forward! But, I think most American's can feel the unity and hope today!
Keep telling yourself that...you might actually start believing it. Do you really expect him to keep all or any of his Campaign promises? I only hope we can survive the next four years.
Scott, you are just mad you lost! Face it, if we as American's come together, we stand together! If we divide, we fail! America is not worth saving? Is that what you want? Is that what you are hoping will happen, so you can say I told you so? I want a better America for my children and people like you have held us down for way 2 long! I plan on doing anything I can for President Obama! It has made people want to stand up and say this is OUR country! We may have politicians, but ultimately, it is OUR country! I am willing to sacrifice to save it, are you?
Christine - I asked you one simple question, and like a true Obamabidenlama supporter you dodge it quite nicely. You are very naive if you think Obamabidenlama will unite America, he will divide it even more, in fact the division has already started. Obamabidenlama has already proven that his own interests come before this country. It's our country now, but in four years it may not be...what's left of it anyway. I am willing to sacrifice to save the country I believe in...but I will not sacrifice anything for YOUR president. I will sit back, observe and prepare. And hope to GOD we can survive the next four years.
No, the McCain team did a fine job all by themselves of discrediting their campaign with all of their lies, innuendos and devisive smear tactics. And it backfired on them--and rightfully so.
Although sometimes his supporters felt he needed to fight back, Obama took the high ground and ignored the McCain tactics and ran an almost impeccable, classy and exceptionally well run and dignified campaign.
On the other hand, McCain's "kitchen sink" campaign was a train wreck....
Scott - I do expect Obama to keep a good many of the promises he has made over the next four (and hopefully eight) years. That's the whole point of voting for him. He has promised to reach across political divides and find a middle ground to work from on the many issues that we currently face. You can choose to be either a part of the discussion or not. I really don't care that much either way since I do choose to be a part of moving our country forward and if you get left behind by your choices it won't bother me that much. Bush's greatest failure is he steadfastly refused to listen to opposing viewpoints choosing his own direction. Obama won't repeat that error. So it is your choice - get involved in where our country is headed or not. But if you don't join in then don't complain about the choices that were made - you had your chance.
I prefer to get involved heading my country in the RIGHT direction, not where Obamabidenlama will take it. If you believe Obamabidenlama will keep his promises, you are more gullible than I give Democrats credit of being. If any candidate was proven to cross party lines it was McCain. Obamabidenlama will take this country to a direction and it definitely will NOT be forward.
Sit back, observe and prepare
Scott-493342 now he is your president unless you plan on leaving the country. You state that "I will sit back, observe and prepare" that is what we don't need . To get out of the mess from the last 8 yr we need people who are prepared to put in some work . I don't care what color you are this is the UNITED states and if you don't like it pack your bags and prepare to observe from some where else.
scott,i agree with you. oscumma is not the president of all the people--just the proifessionally entitled who stand to make a killing from the entitlements.
Susan, I am happy. I am very happy, thank you.
Thank God it's over, no more Palin, no more smears.... except from the likes of you; which we have all come to expect by now.
Liberals are such hypocrites. Now that NObama is president, the Democrats preach that we should unite to move forward. But during Bush's or any other Republican's presidency, the Democrats fought as hard as they could along party lines. Democrats did everything they could do to portray all that is wrong in the world as Bush's fault (after all it couldn't have anything to do with the Democratic controlled congress of the past couple years). Yep, as the Democrats would have everyone believe, George Bush single handedly caused 9/11, created the steroid mess in baseball, is soley responsible for the unrest in the Middle East. Hell, he probably even sired Osama Bin Laden, right donkeys?
Sit back - meaning don't do anything to help Obamabidenlama destroy America
Observe - keep an eye on what his administration. scrutinize everything and minimize the damage
Prepare - for whatever resolution is needed to put America back on track.
I voted for Obama and I think I am capable of forming my own opinion on who I want to vote for. The press does not make my decisions, I make them. I am proud to be one of the millions that stood together and asked for change and stood together with HOPE.
And quitting your job for a hand out? Nice sarcasm. Anyway I hope that is what that was.
Once John Mcain sold his soul to the far rightwingnuts of the Republican party, he was no longer the person he was in 2000 when he worked "across the aisle". Your use of "Obamabidenlama" in every sentence speaks volumes about you and where you stand. The saddest thing I've seen come from your GOP party (since you're too embarrassed to use your real name) is your poor sportsmanship and the demonizing of your opponents. It is no wonder that you can't "reach across the aisle" after the disgusting lies and name calling we've heard from you folks for the past 30 years. Old habits die hard. Obama does not plan on running his administration as "my way or the highway" unlike this last misbegotten excuse for an administration!
Is there anyone on this blog who is a christian? We all need to pray for those in leadership according to the Word of God. Mr. Obama is our President elect. Complaining, criticizing and whining won't change anything. If you disagree with his views, pray. God is and always will be Sovereign. The government should not be your source; God should be. We all need to wake up. Daniel 2:21 states that God sets up kings and he takes them down. For those who believe in God, this is His will. Search your own hearts and quit trying to find fault in someone else. Do what you can to help someone else. The bible also states that 'if my people, who are called by my name, shall humble themselves, pray and seek my face, then will I hear from heaven and will heal their land. We need to look to God for the solutions. The President, nor our government officials have all the answers.
We all need to remember we are AMERICANS first and if our new President wants to bring us together he needs to emphasize that. It's going to a real eye opener to alot of people when things don't work out the way they thought they would. Lets take a poll in two years and see if everyone is still as wildly happy as they are now.
Negativity is what we need. I wonder if you were saying that over the last 4 year and if so you were right. The President i don't care who they are can not fix the country by themselves . It is going to take a nation. Ask your self what can I to do to help.
right on George, and didn't Obama pretty much say that in his speech last night?
Oh give me a break. Obama said that he was not going to tax the wealthy anymore than the Clinton Administration. People who make 60K are being taxed at damn near 30%, so they only take home like $43K. What the hell can that do in this economy? How can you take care of your family?
Nothing makes the wealthy happier than being more wealthy, but OBVIOUSLY the poorer are still getting poorer and that's simply nor fair.
Noone is saying, not even Obama that the rich should pay for everything. Everyone will have to pay taxes. ALWAYS!! And it is what it is... but damn, the middle class can't catch a break!!! Low wages for working our asses off just as much as the rich and NO PAY OFF!!!
The wealthy are gambling our damn pensions, people are losing their jobs due to bad choices and CEO's are walking away STILL RICH!!
There is NO WAY ANYONE can say in their heart of hearts, that that's fair. Those same people who are getting SCREWED for their pensions and retirement money, and getting laid off, are the ones that are building those companies to be what they are and in turn are building the economy!!! The CEO's are making decisions, but the workers are doing the "brunt work". One COULD NOT WORK without the other!!!
There's NO WAY you can be THAT GREEDY that you don't think ANYONE ELSE but the the WEALTHY deserves to make a little money too.
You know, that's what makes America great. I grew up dirt poor. We had to dive in dumpsters for cans to make money to eat. I worked hard, went to school, got my degree, and now I can provide a comfortable living for my family.
But now, with the media's candidate in office, I'll have to cut back on things for my family to pay for others mistakes. Your right, everyone deserves to make money. And if they put their minds to it, they can. Well, I should say all that with a past tense. They won't have to anymore.
Now with the extra taxes they will be putting on my small business, I'll have to lay off my employees. I really hate to do that. These are good people and they work very hard. Now they'll be hurt by Obama's policy of "helping" people.
Why can't anyone realize that the way for real help to come to anyone is from the people themselves? Americans are very good about trying to help one another without the government. Anytime the goernment gets involved in anything (both parties), they screw it up.
I suspect that if the middle class can't afford to spend money, alot of business will go bankrupt. Supply side economics doesn't work for any one but the wealthy.
Just to set the record straight, nobody making $60k pays anywhere close to 30% taxes. Given a married couple with no kids filing jointly with just the standard deduction your taxes would be $6,918 or 11.5% of $60k. It's not the marginal rate that counts but the effective rate.
(60,000 less 10,700 standard deduction less 7,000 standard exemption = 42,300 taxable income.) And I haven't even talked about all the pre-tax payroll deductions that can reduce this even further.
Even adding in FICA (that the social security tax of 7.65%) you still only have a tax rate of 19.15%. A very far cry from the 30% you quoted.
As far as living on $60k, simple. DON'T buy a $200,000+ house that you cannot affort and/or spend beyond your means. This is the root cause of our current economic mess, not Bush, nor the Republican's, nor the Democrat's, nor Wall Street. The blame lies with all of US not them.
I hear you Steve!
I approve this message . Thanks Steve
Thank you, Steve!!
I am part of a family run small business, not scared for one minute. We have been around since 1978 and there have been so many ups and downs and twists and turns in the economy, why is everyone so anxious to hang it up. Work people work hard and quit whining. If you are still around after the past 8 years your future looks bright. I think the scariest part of all these nay sayers is the fact that they have small businesses and don't have a clue about how their taxes work or where their money really goes. If you go under i think it will be more of your own ignorance than anything else take a class all ready.
No, I think these small business people work hard and probably put in a lot of hours so they don't have the time to actually see how things are actually going for them. They just listen to Rush and Billo and believe everything they hear. They also are probably not aware of the fact that a small business to John McCain is one that make 150 million a year just as John McCain believes a yearly income of 1 million makes you middle class (only off about 3 zeros). This is called elitism and OUT OF TOUCH. If I owned 8 homes, I probably would be out of touch too.
I'd almost agree with 'all of the above' on the check list. Then there's the concept that the GOP sure didn't put their best man forward -- almost as if they knew it was a lost cause and just stuck McCain out there as a warm body with the Republican label on it. Hey, they looted enough forom the American public to keep them fat and happy for another decade or so, no sense getting all fired up about a foregone conclusion and wasting too much money...
So exactly what happens if we ALL quit working. Plan B?
The only way Obama won was to drag out every black he could find, to the poles. This is the downfall of America. We are now at the mercy of Africa and we all know that they sold their own people into slavery and then all we whites got the blame. Obama didn't even have any relatives that were slaves so how can the remaining blacks that he can "feel their pain". It just can't happen. GOD HELP AMERICA!!!
Sad in Tennessee I'm really feel bad for you. Everyone in America at this point are tired of being sick and tired of the current state our country is facing. 43 Presidents have been white men and now it seems to be problem due to Americans not juding a man for the color of his skin but the content of his character. I'm an African American woman who is proud to be an not only being BLACK but an AMERICAN!!!!!! God Bless You!!!!
Sad in Tennesse
Your racist, hateful, ignorant comment truly exemplifies how much of an uniformed loser you really are. Get your facts straight. There is no way in the world that galvinizing Blacks to the poles won the election for Obama. Blacks are only 12% of this population!! He won this election because people from all walks of life supported and voted for him. And yes, (gasp) that means that millions of (don't be alarmed) WHITE people voted for him!! This is the UNITED States of America AND it's 2008. Change is coming for the BETTER and if you decide not to participate that's on you. But just know that your hateful ignorant rhetoric is really getting old.
Lisa-Philadelphia
You are truly ignorant. Get your facts straight. The media itself (biased as it is) even stated that 97% of the black voters voted for Obama. It's obvious that their vote is racially motivated. It's obvious that you are under the age of 40. We'll see how you feel in another year.
Yes, there's going to be change. Is it going to be the change you were led to believe? The Dow dropped 400+ points today, we're in for a ride. Hope what's left of my 401k will still be there tomorrow. Just my opinion, to which I am entitled (at least today anyway.)
Charbon,
If you read clearly...Lisa stated that African-Americans make up 12% of the POPULATION. So yes, President-elect Obama got 97% of the African-American vote, HOWEVER, they make up 12% of the entire population in this country. In order for him to win, it required large voter turnout from various groups, including whites. For some, the decision may have been racially motivated...for many, it was an educated choice. Please do not believe that African-Americans do not study the candidates and vote on the issues.
Sen. McCain went into this race assuming that he could not get the African-American vote and did not even try. Not all African-Americans are democrats. Some are Republicans, others are independents, or part of 3rd parties. What I hope all parties take away from this election is that no section of America should be ignored. Every political party needs to reassess how they campaign.
WOOOHOOOO!!! Congratulations United Socialists of America!!!! Welfare checks for everyone!!! Hip Hip Hooray!! Hip Hip Hooray!!!
Truly a sad day for America, we can hope what's left after four years we can savalge and save. Funny, I asked a few Obamabidenlama supporters last night if they think he'll keep his campaign promises...most said they didn't care, that he couldn't do any worse than Bush.
The gruesome threesome will move this country in a much worse direction, our enemies around the world are now licking their chops preparing for the invasion of America.
Now is the time for true Americans to sit back, observe and prepare.
You are a complete idiot. I am a socialist and I suggest you do some reading about socialism.
Scott -493342 Did you cash the last 2 (stimulus) welfare check you got from Bush. If so shut it. You can sit back and observe in some other country. We have work to do here.So be prepared to do your part . And as Bush said bring it on if they want to invade this country .
I half agree with you Scott. I've already prepared for my observation,I and the crying towels that go with it as I watch 232 years of history disappear. I don't think I want to be part of Oscumma's tribal mentality. I certainly don't want to be part of any tribe that steals from the pockets of others to keep itself and it's illigitimate spawn alive.
Scott and Lucy:
You are so free to leave...........the country has spoken and YOU SORRY MF"S ARE THE MINORITY!!! HOW DOES IT FEEL, SCUMBUCKETS?
And you are on notice: Anytime you speak of MY PRESIDENT you will refer to him as Mr. President.......or you will be stoned in front of your 2 x 4's!!
hahaha....losers......told ya so.....
To 'Satan Loves You' - You say you are a socialist, then why do you live in America? Why not go live in Cuba, China, Russia or ... I have loved ones that lived through socialism and escaped to live in a FREE America. Loved ones that died because their medical choices were made by a socialist gov't that decided it wasn't worth giving them medicine because they were over 65 yrs old or another younger than 65 because they already had 2 surgeries. If you think socialism is part of Freedom YOU ARE WRONG. I have read the books, I have also seen what it does to the people who live it. Besides, how can one be a socialist without living in a socialist country? Unfortunately, you may soon get your wish. And by the way, how can one who claims to be an athiest be associated with Satan. If you don't believe in a God how can you believe in the opposition?
Are you intentionally stupid or do you have to work at it? I suggest you look up the definition of socialism. IT IS NOT A SYNONYM FOR COMMUNISM!
Tell you what, for you and your family we will make sure you do not:
1. collect social security or medicare, or 2. drive on the interstate system, or 3. drive on ANY road for that matter, or 4. use any bridges, or 5. the sewer systems, or 6. the municipal water systems, or 7. water from any dams, or 8. use ANY electricity that is generated by a dam's turbine.
There you go, try living in the modern world without these "socialist projects"! Better yet, move to any of the long list of third world countries. You should be quite happy there.
Your a fool on a fools errand. Grow up...
Satan Loves You - I was a socialist too, until I had to get a job and start paying my own rent. Helping people through a temporary down situation is one thing, but the reality is too many are making a career out of welfare. When I make a bonus, I work hard, DAMN hard, and I get taxed 50% because my bonus is considered luxury income. Never mind the hours I've put in. But someone has to pay for all those food stamps! More socialist projects are on the way... ask the USSR how that worked out.

Obama never had to make a negative comment about McCain or Palin. The press took care of that and kept up the Bush-bashing.
