Takes her out of the loop.
While I would like to see Senator Clinton remain in the Senate as I think she has the clout and smarts to get things done, I can't think of a better person for Secretary of State. I think for all the posturing in the Obama campaign, he and his advisors know Clinton has greater depth on world affairs. Obama is smart. He knows Clinton will make his Presidency sound.
Bill is too much baggage and his behind the scenes activities are almost certain to cause problems for Obama down the road. Obama can do better and the offering is primarily an attempt to make nice among the democrats.
Hillary herself is one of those people who draw strong emotions, either for or against, with many of the reactions being negative. She should decline, but in the end she won't.
Roland fair comments but Bill is still one of the best presidents you have ever had even with the past problems.
As for Hillary well looking in from a far ( UK ) she seems very able to do this job just like the present lady
The democrats are truely the party of JACKASS'S of the 47 appointments 31 are Clinton retreads. Truely O'bla bla ma is the canidate of change. By the way do you know which presidency was the most corrupt.Surprise CLINTON 47. Here's chanhge you can believe
The only president ever impeached on grounds of personal malfeasance
- Most number of convictions and guilty pleas by friends and associates-
Most number of cabinet officials to come under criminal investigation
- Most number of witnesses to flee country or refuse to testify
- Most number of witnesses to die suddenly
- First president sued for sexual harassment.
- First president accused of rape.
- First first lady to come under criminal investigation
- Largest criminal plea agreement in an illegal campaign contribution case
- First president to establish a legal defense fund.
- Greatest amount of illegal campaign contributions
- Greatest amount of illegal campaign contributions from abroad
Just think we only have 4 years of these crooks. Maybe the American people will wake up
What 47 appointments???? Give it a rest people. He hasn't even made that many yet. Don't believe all this stuff until you hear it from Obama himself or from his web site. The media love to talk and speculate. That's what they get paid to do.
He has only appointed about 5 people officially. Go to and you will find out.
Thanks for the refresher.People seem to have extremly short memories of how much of a liar and "misunderstood" president he was.We need to move on from the Clintons!
The American people have woke up. I dont see Bill Clinton in office now. None of our retreads have been found guilty of anything. I will put them up beside your corrupt and incompentent crooks anyday. I hope to see some of your favorites in jail one day soon, for far more serious crimes, War Criminals.
What Annette said! I am so tired of people who cannot move on. The truth is, Clinton is a non competitor when it comes to the assault and destruction of the Bush years. And Bush's acts were crimes against us...and the world. Your trumped-up charges and canards ring hollow.
are you for real? What about all the sex scandals surrounding the Repubs? And there were a lot of homosexual tendencies from those same right winged jerks who walk around preaching morality.
What is killing me is that my fellow Americans would rather see us fail as a country than standing behind the man who was chosen (by a land slide!) to to lead us. He hasn't even taken office yet.. give him a chance for goodness sakes! United we stand, Divided we fall!!
With all that being said I bet voted for BUSH...LOL
With all that being said, I am sure
Keep blowing that hot air buddy.
Hmm...
All that and not one shred of evidence...
That is desperate...
Try again, bud...
We need Hilary to stay as senator of NY she is wonderful and caring your not just a number with her she fights for whats right for the people
"An "Advisor says........" so starts part of the article! Don't you really get sick and tired sometimes of what advisors say? I'll be glad when I can hear it from the horse's mouth, so to speak. An advisor says............................... Mrs. Clinton will make the decision she deems suitable for her. I'd like to see her in that post personally as Sec of State but she's a very effective Senator too. I'll bet no one within her inner circle is asking what the newsvine average poster is saying. tee hee. An advisor says......................... Talk to me when Mrs. Clinton speaks! Advisors are great I suppose but they sure do alot of talking and love to remain nameless.
Why wouldn't the good Senator accept the position of Secretary Of State? Whether or not she likes being her own boss is irrelevant, or should be irrelevant, to the service of her nation to which she owe allegiance. It is my opinion that if she doesn't accept the aforementioned position because she likes being her own boss reveals her true character or lack thereof.
What do you think?
Once Hillary declines the offer of SoS her fans will no longer be able to pester Obama about giving her a high profile gift in his administration. She's much better off in the Senate. Most White House cabinet posts last on average only about two years. If Hillary accepted a cabinet position, trying to get back into the Senate would be a step down. The only job she could run for after SoS would be governor of the state of New York. Of course, it would be difficult to win that position if she was fired as SoS, or forced out under a clould of controversy. But I wouldn't be surprised if Gov. of N.Y. is where she closed out her political career after a successful tenure as senator. I'm sure she would be a terrific governor, but she should steer clear of Obama cabinet posts unless she's ready to risk ending her political career in two years.
Clinton not sure if she should take the job? Are we surprised to learn that she does not like "working for someone other than herself". Is that what makes her so appealing to her supporters? Self serving ambition, thats pure Clintonism, never mind what your country asks of you, whats important to them is their own personal aspirations, and they want to answer to no one. Thats not leadership or patriotism, but pure self serving ambition. Obama seems to have genuine humility facing what is ahead, the Clintons are always looking at what is best for themselves and their own futures and only seemed concerned about their legacy. Why do americans continue to fall for these types of people with personal values that are clearly self serving.
Yes.. Hillary Clinton is very intelligent. Makes me wonder why she isn't jumping through hoops to work for Obama or to be the Secretary of State. Hmmm....
I think she is being arrogant by worrying so much about being her own boss instead of thinking how she can help the nation better. Maybe her attitude is saying "I am not a team player if I am not the boss, so you are better off without me".
Maybe "once a boss of some sort, always a boss" (mentality). I've been accused of "wanting" to run stuff too; if ya could, ask my circle of associates, friends and kids. :) Minor personality flaw? Or acceptance of ones' own skill set? dunno........... ok, a tad arrogant too perhaps or great self esteem. :) But you must admit, she is good!
The better trick is to balance the two: I learned "TEAM WORK" from the military and I learned it well but then again.... I learned self confidence and maximizing your skill set from my parents. The two together and you have a winning combination. I think......................
Top 5 reasons why Hillary is not the right candidate for Obamas SoS post.
1. Bill Clinton = political albatross, conflict of interest, drama, drama, and more drama
2. Hillary is in debt from her campaign
3. She would have to put her presidential ambitions to rest
4. She would have to give up her senate seat, thus weakening democratic stronghold on the senate
5. She wants to be her own boss
top 5 reasons why Hillary is right for the position as SoS
1. Bill Clinton = Political Albatross...
2. Hillary is in debt from her campaign
3. She would have to put her presidential ambitions to rest
4. she would have to give up her senate seat...
5. she wants to be her own boss.
Nothing more compelling than a Democrat opening the door to obscurity
Whether she should take the job depends on what she wants to be doing careerwise in 8 years, which is the longest she could keep the Secretary of State gig. By then, she'll be 69. If she stays in the Senate, she could still be actively serving and possibly find herself in an important leadership role in the Senate.
If after 8 years, she'd rather be less active, then the Secretary of State job might be the thing for her. In 8 years, she could then semi-retire, write a book, and make money from speaking engagements, or possibly seek an ambassadorship. She certainly has the name recognition around the world....but she'd also have to worry about Bill getting in her way.....
You want class - Hilary
You want intelligence - Hilary
You want dedication - Hilary
You want knowledge - Hilary
You want spell check?
You want to be embarrassed by her motives during the coming years?
You want to read about MORE corruption?
You want to ask Obama why he feels it's necessary to drag her back into the "new" administration?
You want to wince as hubby Bill prances around doing "his thing"..completely out of control?
You want to watch one endless pant suit touring the world?
Because of Hillary (her own boss) Clinton's answer regarding a possible appointment as Secretary of State I voted not sure and am more inclined to vote no to an appointment. Based on her answer that she likes being her own boss further reinforces my oppinion that she is ego driven as opposed to serving constituents who she works for. Does she not realize that as a senator or president she is working for all of the people she serves, and does answer to the people who employeher as their senator or president. Senator Elect has made it very clear that he understands that he works for all of the peop, not just those that voted for him. The last thing we need in the White House is another Nixon who never accepted that he worked for the people and that he could just do whatever he felt.
Mrs Clinton should accept the offer if she is really willing to help the country . Her acceptance will not be for President -elect Obama, but as an umbrella for what the country is facing. I think that would be very patriotic and a challenge as well to others who had been negative about her. Although she is a well like individual not because of her name, but her charactere, she would conquer her diplomatical technique and win the heart of many other nations. That also would be a very well advance record for when she would want to be a candidate again for the presidency. Being her own boss is very good. But , wich one is more important to her is it to serve her country base on her quality or being her own boss to prove to others that this Hillary Clinton law or perhaps women law? I think again it is up to her and her beleif to answer this question.
When has she ever done anything that doesn't serve her self-interest..even when it's cloaked as "patriotic"? Let's not forget..this woman was the one that brought the race issue front and center during the primary. And Obama was a fellow American!
"No, so she can run for President in 4 yrs. Don't Do it Hill!!!"

She will not beat Obama in 4 years in the primary. It is very difficult for another candidate to beat the incumbent in the primary, it hardly ever happens, and Obama has already proven he is great at running a campaign, is organization will only be greater in 4 years. I have respect for Hillary, and would support her for Secretary of State or if she chooses to stay in the senate, but her decision should not be based on trying to run again in 2012, that would not be wise.
Please, Hillary supporters, move on from Hillary 2012, history just doesn't support that being a feasible reality.
Give me a break - we all LOVE to be our own boss. It is human nature - we are packaged that way. How many of you wake up each morning thinking that today you will love every minute of being subservient to someone else? Every politician has a big ego - including Mr. Obama and I have no problem with that. Every politician in America loves power as much as they love service to their constituents. Accept that reality. Do not judge Hillary based on her spouse. Cindy McCain has drug related incidents in her history, but we did not judge McCain on his wife's past. Hillary Clinton is the best choice Obama could make for Secretary of State, and if she believes that too, then great. If not, then we all move on.
If her hesitancy is based on the reason given by her spokesperson, "she's used to working on her own and not answering to someone" (paraphrased), then she should go out and get a job in the private sector. It's obvious she doesn't care to take orders, and it would be harder for her to feather her own nest when under instructions from the President!
The American people jave a hort memory indeed, when they fail to recall that she was, along with her husband, deeply rooted in the Whitewater scandal and were never punished for that! Also, the sweet deal she orchestrated on her home in New York should be evidence enough that this is not an honest woman and her involvement in politics should end! One would think she'd be tickled to be asked to serve as Secretary Of State, tey she hedges and plays politics-as-usual! She's a true politician, and what we need for the job is a true Statesman!
Whatever happened to "serving at the pleasure of the President". When your President asks you to serve your country, should you hop around thinking of excuses for not doing so? I think she would be disasterous, but her response does not show respect for the office of the President of the United States.
Before Hillary Clinton can become Secretary of State:
1) Bill Clinton must provide a complete listing of all donors to his foundation and presidential library.
2) Both Bill and Hillary Clinton need to clearly indicate that any and all private financial dealings and other interactions with foreign leaders are now over, unless specifically authorized by the US government.
3) Hillary Clinton needs to publically discuss exactly what her approach to the job of Secretary of State would be and clearly indicate how she would be able to perform that job without any conflict of interest whatsoever.
If Bill and Hillary Clinton are unwilling or unable to comply with the above requirements or similar ones provided to them by the Obama administration, Hillary Clinton should not become Secretary of State. The ball is in the Clinton’s court.
I agree. Remember that as much as the Clintons have been scrutinized for nearly two decades, one can argue that their legacy has lacked transparency. I doubt the vetting process in this case would clear Hillary (and Bill) to proceed with the nomination.
Noticed how much media attention Hillary is getting throughout this process? It is precisely what Obama doesn't want for his administration. She carries too much luggage and is reportedly 'unsure' about accepting the position in the first place. Why not consider a low-flying candidate with better credentials???? BILL RICHARDSON.
