I'm extremely excited that Obama won and will be our next president. But I fear that people are pinning too much hope on his ability to turn things around quickly. Bush has left us with several disasters that will take years to clean up.

Just because he is the President doesn't mean he and he alone is to blame for the state of the country/world. Nice for Obama though, because for a while, when he hasn't done even a 1/1000th of what he has promised, he'll blame Bush. But that will only work for a while.
Bush has left us with several disasters that will take years to clean up.
Hmmm. And what about the Democratic Congress that's been in place for a few years and been COMPLETELY ineffective? They, along with Obama are planning to give BILLIONS of dollars to big business to stimulate the economy. It is a funnel with all the money being sucked down into the pockets of big business - no different than Bush's tax cuts and of very little benefit to average American people. They should have given the money to each citizen. It's our money after all. Let people spend it. If you had $100,000 what would y ou do with it? Buy a home, buy a car, pay your bills, buy, buy, buy... Stupid politicians. Did Obama accept a pay raise every year he's been in the Senate? You betcha. He's not about saving money any more than Bush. His spending proposals will keep your grandchildren in debt for their lifetime. All you people out there with rose colored glasses better be paying attention. He's not the savior. He's just a man with ideas - some good, many bad.
No matter what you think you believe in, EVERY president leaves something behind, even the glorious Bill Clinton - ugh. Each must deal with what the last one left, and maybe the one before that...and not just him, but the congress that was in charge during that time. For those of you who don't know, that's made up of both Ds and Rs and they all vote. DUH! People think he is this country's savior. It isn't so. Congress has to back him up. Not to mention that as just a candidate he did not know what insiders know...like the CIA, and others. So many people flocked to the polls to vote and so many people will be let down. Politicians will never walk the earth as saviors. There is only ONE savior, you know. I do, however, as a citizen have to keep faith that he will do something good, even if I won't believe in everything he does.

How can you blame it all on bush when the congress is mostly democrat and in reality they are the ones with more power in the economic aspect than the president. this seems to be a democratic witch hunt to try and point the finger and blame others when the finger should be pointed at all involved.
Neither. Obama set his own expectations. He insisted he could and would do what needed to be done. Obama said he would "change" - be transparent and etc...

Assuming that those expectations are reachable and reasonable, then your assessment would be appropriate. Of course, whether those expectations are reachable and reasonable is an assessment that's open to interpretation.
If your gonna blame this on Bush then you better blame Clinton! At least we didn't have another terrorist attack for 8 years! He kept you, me, and the rest of America safe! I can understand why YOU would feel that way though! I guess if we don't have a president in there that approves of killing a baby in the womb buy sucking it's brains out and getting b.j.'s in the oval office you democrats are just not happy. I can not believe that all the democrats blame President Bush for all the bad this nation has been through. He kept us safe. Just remember who has controlled the house and Senate for the past two years. It has been the dems they got absolutely nothing done. And the prior two years they filibustered the Senate evey chance they had. They will get nothing done with Obama either. They all made promises they can not fulfill and they will stumble over each other reaching for "OUR" paychecks to pay off all the lobbyist, media and union leaders they owe for getting Obama elected. If you think that the President has all the power you may want to pass that on to Nancy Polsi she hasn't heard that yet. Also if you think you are broke now wait till they the dems start taxing and spending. Thy want to live life to the fullest and the American tax payer will pay for it. If you do not believe me check out how much they spent on getting a dem as president, and how much did last night cost us American? A speech in a simple setting would have gone a long way, after all, those who were mesmerised would still have walked to the cool-aid dispencer.
Excuses, Excuses, Excuses!!! That's how it will always be because deep down even his followers know that he will not turn this country around and that he is making promises he can't keep. So while everyone makes him look like our Savior, they are already making excuses for him!!! LOL!!! Hail to the King!
Watever Bush left behing, it will not be the likes of what we will all endure during these trying times and what we will face will have nothing to do with the economy.
People are way too emotionally involved with Obama. He looks like a capable guy, but he's not a miracle worker.

I'm glad someone is finally figuring that out...the term "African American" equaling black is really quite stupid. There are whites that are born in Africa and that move to America as well...so is that white person African American? (In fact, we're ALL actually descendants from the North African area..so we're ALL actually "African American".)
There are also black people that have never been to America...or Africa...are they African Scottish...or...
In other words, just because my ancestory is Scottish, Spanish, Mexican, American doesn't mean I'm going to get offended if you call me "white". Why get up tight about the term "black"...what ever happened to "black is beautiful", "once you go black you never go back", or "say it loud, I'm black and I'm proud".

I am so tired of blacks screaming "racist" but in turn having no problem playing that tired old race card when they feel it will give them an advantage.
I would have voted for Barack Obama no matter what color his skin is. I agree that there are some major problems in this country that need to be addressed by a strong leader.
So please stop gloating over the fact that we have a black president and be proud that we have a president who truly cares about the state of this country and will certainly try to make a difference.
And FYI--Obama is African-American; his father is African.

Until we address the lobbyists, corruption, desire to hold & gain power rather than serve the people and bipartisan politics, it really doesn't matter who is in the Oval office.

mugsmania: Unfortunately, I believe what you say is far too true. To a large extent the lobbyists and other special interest groups have more power than the "President", no matter who that may be. Seems everyone in government "owes" a "favor" to at least one, and many times they owe a large number of favors. I do believe President Obama will be held to a higher standard than previous Presidents - everything he does, or his family, will be put under a microscope and examined for flaws.
Concerned has stated people are too emotionally involved with President Obama - I believe that is totally true. Likewise, even more will be expected of him. I truly hope and pray for the safety of this family as many in this country DO not want him to succeed for any reason. Our people are terribly divided and angry - too much financial burden for nearly every family. Also as stated above, our financial problems did not happen over night, and likewise, will not be solved over night either.
Mr. Bush is, of course, not responsible for ALL the problems we have now, but his 8 years did nothing to help matters either. There is always enough "blame" to go around many tmes over, and I hope our people can find common ground and try to work together instead of against each other. Acceptance of others will be necessary to make things better for all of us. Infighting will have to stop at some point, and the "parties" will have to work together as well. One has to wonder how far down we have to fall before we get up and go forward.
Personally, I wish President Obama a lot of luck and hope he has the strength to do what is best for this country. While I did not vote for either candidate, I do support our President. I would also hope President Obama does NOT try to blame the problems he will face on Mr. Bush - as Kase/numbers has pointed out. I would hope President Obama is a better man than that. We will see.
At least Obama is not putting the lobbyists and cronies in charge like Bush did. That at the least should make things better.
There is way too much hype and high expectations over this inauguration. Obama is not the Messiah, he's not going to be able to solve all of the world's problems, or even all of our country's problems, the economy is going to take a long time to recover, and people ought to just wait and see what he'll accomplish in office before they go singing his praises.

I agree with you. People are trying to put Obama on a high Pedestal. And place him as a miracle worker. They are almost to the point where they worship him like some godly creature. They are idolizing him-and placing too much glory before he actually has done what he promised.
The media has placed too much hype on this person. I think they are doing because they can make money off their stories, displaying in magazines-=etcc.
Obama is just another man, politician. And the people who voted him are expecting way too much from him, especially when he wont' be able to keep all his promises.
The reason we are in the rut we are in now, is because of the politician's that are and have been in congress. Funny how the Democrats HAVE out numBered the Republicians in senate seats in congress. Most of the decision making on how America's money was spent came from the Democratic side. Of course the Democrats use the lame blame game instead of placing it on the right party.
Being a passonate Obama supporter I'd like too point you guys in the right direction on why we "hold him up on a pedistal". It's not because he's the first black POTUS (atleast that has absolutly nothing too do with it for me), it's not because he's a Democrat, it's not because he's a liberal, and it's not because he promises too give me anything other than openess and accountabilty.
We love him because his rhetoric makes us believe in the American Spirit once more. He re-established the American pride. . . Inspiring millions not just at home, but abroad. We can all once again step into a foreign country and hold our heads up high and say "I'm an American".
Now, as I've said yes. . . it's Rhetoric. . . But the ability to inspire and to encourage faith and hope is the most important attribute a leader can have. With Obama our faith in our government is restored even if it's just alittle. Now, I don't expect President Obama to be able to solve all of our nations problems. . . But he makes me feel that everything is goin to be okay. Why? Because he reassures us that were all in this mess together and as history has proven. . . when American's rise up and stand together. . . Unified and proud. . . we solve the problems and over come the challenges that face us. . . When we as ONE people act. . . the world as we know it can change. Obama is not our savoir. . . WE THE PEOPLE OF THIS GREAT NATION ARE GOING TO IMPLEMENT THE CHANGE WE SEEK THROUGH OBAMA.

Our whole countries economy exists in an unstable bubble that is popping in slow motion, hopefully we can put aside our need for money and petty desire and care about one another and how our actions affect people around the world, fostering a new way of living. A celebration is always worth spending for, the energy and enthusiasm you feel and nurture doesn't need to have it's cost justified.
its not a waste of money at all. this hole process has been cathargic!!! do you know what that means? it means a cleansing, a purification. we as a nation needed every bit of this hoopla. this is the worlds inauguration. for so many reasons. i am soooo thankful to the obama's for making this an all inclusive celebration. the concert at the memorial, the kids inaugural on disney were exceptional. so far since saturday i have clapped, cried, sang and danced my way thru this inauguration. THIS IS A MUCH NEEDED CELEBRATION. NOT ONE TAX DOLLAR WAS SPENT!!!!!!!!!!!!

There were at a minimum $15,000,000 tax dollars spent, but with all the extra secret service that has to continually be around for the last week, I'm positive it is way way way more than that. How do you think government workers (secret service) get paid. That would be tax dollars.

AMEN!!!! My thoughts and words exactly (to those that listened) he's just a senator whose "experience" was running for President, said all the right things and all those timely promises. Yes, I EXPECT a lot from the messiah, especially when Reagan took over from Carter, over 400 hostages being held by Iran, unemployment over 12%, and housing interest rates in the high to low 20 percentile, it took him less than two years to right the ship.
Give him 2 years...it will happen. Expectations are high but they should be after the disaster of the last 8 years. I have hope!!!

While President Obama is a capable person he leads a divided partisan Congress. Our nation did not get in its current state overnight, therefore we won't quickly remedy our ills. We will be tested in these troubled times, both individually and as a nation. My hope is that we will all be inspired by his leadership and set forth a new pledge of allegiance to all citizens of the world. Congratulations to our new leaders, here is to their health, well being and strength for the journey.

Bill was also in power when the Nasdaq collapsed in March of 2000.It happened on the same day that he gave a speach to Tony Blair that we had mapped the human genome and it would be available to the world for free.
What angers me is the implied assumption that if you support Obama, you think he's the "Messiah", or "the one". The vast majority of Obama supporters that I know don't view him that way. As a matter of fact, in my case, I wasn't an Obama supporter initially. It was over the course of reading about him, and listening to him that I decided to give my my support to him. I will just as readily snatch my support back if I don't like what I see come 2012. Also, even in supporting him, there are weaknesses that I've seen from the beginning but they weren't enough to make me support McCain. There are some that vote for people based on their merits and we aren't looking through rose colored glasses or expecting him to perform miracles.
How ironic - I supported him in the beginning (yes, I'm GOP) and had full intention of voting for him UNTIL I read up on him and his "ideals" - he scares me & I don't scare easy.

Hopefully Obama does well and doesn't both Foreign Policy. Anyone who takes office now is in a no lose situation. The economy will get better in at least 4 years and he can take credit. If it goes slower than expected, he can always blame Bush, like the rest of the media has already done.

Or if W hadn't bludgeoned McCain during the 2000 primary. McCain was the better man than Bush then, and he still is now. Bush has managed to screw this guy over twice. Could you imagine where we would be if McCain had won the republican primary in 2000? I guarantee we would not see nearly as much divisivness in our politics as we have during this past election.
He we go again using the lame blame Democratic politician's excuse of why things didn't go so well. No, you have the Democratic senator's who outnumbered the Republican's. Democrats made most of the decisions in the last year 8-years.

He is totally lacking in experience, honor, credibility or substance....just the product of a well executed marketing program. Once America has discovered what they bought, there will be hell to pay. Agreed. But we couldn't expect him to be perfect either. Dick Cheney had something to do with burning America to the ground but I suppose that doesn't make Bush any better. I look at all the hype, all the tshirts,coins,flags, and the masses of people flocking to this event.....to see a man who hasn't done one ounce of anything as of yet. Why are we treating this man like he's Christ? Has he walked on water? Has he made blind men see? I know for certain he isn't the one that has died for my sins..... Its amazing how people will not wake up on Sunday to attend church, but will drive for miles and stand for hours out in the frigid cold to see a man who hasn't done anything for the American people yet. It would have been smarter on his part to keep it low(er) key and not so extravagant. THIS IS A MUCH NEEDED CELEBRATION. NOT ONE TAX DOLLAR WAS SPENT!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is a huge waste of money. And the word is CATHARTIC - not cathargic. I cannot believe you think not one tax dollar has been spent. The amount of money spent on security alone in Washington, DC would feed a small country for quite some time. Or drill quite a few water wells for those in third world countries who have no clean water. Not to mention the fact that the economy is in the cellar.
That being said, we all need to be in constant prayer for Obama. Like it or not, he is now the leader of our country.
And as far as Katrina, I believe it was the Democratic leadership in the state of Louisiana that fell down on the job. Not to mention the fact that people were told to leave well before landfall. IT IS NOT UP TO THE GOVERNMENT TO TAKE CARE OF YOU! My parents were raised in the depression. They taught me to take care of myself and my family. I don't wait for someone else to do it. Nor do I expect anyone to pay my bills. But a lot of you sure expect me to pay taxes so the government can pay your bills.

No President Bush was not the worst ever!!!! I am not a big fan of President Bush but pointing out Katrina is just plain ridiculous. People were warned that it was going to be bad, if you want to start pointing fingers then point them at the Governor of LA and the Mayor of New Orleans. They should have made people leave & provided enough transportation to do so. There were many, many buses that could have been used to help get people out of that city! Yes I heard the excuses as to why they weren't used, from the Mayor of New Orleans, but not of them were plausible!
And on that note--probably not the greatest idea to live in a virtual "bowl" surrounded by water just poised to breach the levees.
But no one wants to point that out. I live in the midwest--TORNADO ALLEY-- and if my house was flattened by one, I wouldn't blame the government. I CHOSE to live here...

Ok, I'm going to step in and ask this...
When will we stop pointing out the fact that he is a black man(or half or whatever)? This is a good portion of the hype. Who cares what color he is; if he does a good job so be it. If we want to get past racial issues then we cannot point out color either positively or negatively. Make the historical signifigance and move on to the important issues.
I think he is a rookie and will hopefully have some experience on his side to keep him from really stepping in it. I can't say Bush came close to doing a good job but I think his presidency was cast and shot with 9/11. But then again it was Clinton that drained the defense budget that let the terroists in.

I am a black woman and I found this statement idiotic. None of my racial brethren alive had to endure slavery and only a fraction were alive for Jim Crow. Yes our ancestors endured some of the most horrific treatment in history but they did so that WE can be free and not to use their history it as a weapon during debate. I agree that if our country is truly as civilized as we like to pretend we are then his race should not matter. His credentials is what should matter and how he will serve all people, not just blacks. Also, to say that one peoples struggle is greater than another is somewhat arrogant. You cannot gauge some one else's misery so let everyone have their day and not just "the black man".

Obama made himself appear to be God. He is just like the devil. Smooth talking, and very convincing. All the democrats seem to be in a spell like daze that has killed their sense of morals, and common sense. I am holding him to every single promise he made. There will be CHANGE for sure. It will be all of us changing our underwear after we mess them for how irresponsible and sensless obama is!
