If we give him enough time to set things right, then no, we haven't set our expectations too high.
I'm extremely excited that Obama won and will be our next president. But I fear that people are pinning too much hope on his ability to turn things around quickly. Bush has left us with several disasters that will take years to clean up.
Bush did not put our country where it is today single handedly like everyone seems to think. Don't people know how government works? Just because he is the President doesn't mean he and he alone is to blame for the state of the country/world. Nice for Obama though, because for a while, when he hasn't done even a 1/1000th of what he has promised, he'll blame Bush. But that will only work for a while.
Bush has left us with several disasters that will take years to clean up.
Hmmm. And what about the Democratic Congress that's been in place for a few years and been COMPLETELY ineffective? They, along with Obama are planning to give BILLIONS of dollars to big business to stimulate the economy. It is a funnel with all the money being sucked down into the pockets of big business - no different than Bush's tax cuts and of very little benefit to average American people. They should have given the money to each citizen. It's our money after all. Let people spend it. If you had $100,000 what would y ou do with it? Buy a home, buy a car, pay your bills, buy, buy, buy... Stupid politicians. Did Obama accept a pay raise every year he's been in the Senate? You betcha. He's not about saving money any more than Bush. His spending proposals will keep your grandchildren in debt for their lifetime. All you people out there with rose colored glasses better be paying attention. He's not the savior. He's just a man with ideas - some good, many bad.
No matter what you think you believe in, EVERY president leaves something behind, even the glorious Bill Clinton - ugh. Each must deal with what the last one left, and maybe the one before that...and not just him, but the congress that was in charge during that time. For those of you who don't know, that's made up of both Ds and Rs and they all vote. DUH! People think he is this country's savior. It isn't so. Congress has to back him up. Not to mention that as just a candidate he did not know what insiders know...like the CIA, and others. So many people flocked to the polls to vote and so many people will be let down. Politicians will never walk the earth as saviors. There is only ONE savior, you know. I do, however, as a citizen have to keep faith that he will do something good, even if I won't believe in everything he does.
"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves money from the Public Treasury. From that moment on the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the Public Treasury with a result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy always followed by dictatorship."
How can you blame it all on bush when the congress is mostly democrat and in reality they are the ones with more power in the economic aspect than the president. this seems to be a democratic witch hunt to try and point the finger and blame others when the finger should be pointed at all involved.
Neither. Obama set his own expectations. He insisted he could and would do what needed to be done. Obama said he would "change" - be transparent and etc...
Holding Obama to an expectation HE set isn't unreasonable.
YHS: Holding Obama to an expectation HE set isn't unreasonable.
Assuming that those expectations are reachable and reasonable, then your assessment would be appropriate. Of course, whether those expectations are reachable and reasonable is an assessment that's open to interpretation.
If your gonna blame this on Bush then you better blame Clinton! At least we didn't have another terrorist attack for 8 years! He kept you, me, and the rest of America safe! I can understand why YOU would feel that way though! I guess if we don't have a president in there that approves of killing a baby in the womb buy sucking it's brains out and getting b.j.'s in the oval office you democrats are just not happy. What happened to the democrats sense of morals? Did you all get your brains sucked out by Clinton??? You all act like it! We ought to hold Obama to all the ridiculous promises he made. He shouldn't have ran for president of the United States if he can't handle it. Any black man could have ran for office and won. Lets see what the Obama pig looks like with lipstick on. He asked for it, he got it! Now we have a self-centered, arrogant, unqualified half black man as president! Just the facts!
I can not believe that all the democrats blame President Bush for all the bad this nation has been through. He kept us safe. Just remember who has controlled the house and Senate for the past two years. It has been the dems they got absolutely nothing done. And the prior two years they filibustered the Senate evey chance they had. They will get nothing done with Obama either. They all made promises they can not fulfill and they will stumble over each other reaching for "OUR" paychecks to pay off all the lobbyist, media and union leaders they owe for getting Obama elected. If you think that the President has all the power you may want to pass that on to Nancy Polsi she hasn't heard that yet. Also if you think you are broke now wait till they the dems start taxing and spending. Thy want to live life to the fullest and the American tax payer will pay for it. If you do not believe me check out how much they spent on getting a dem as president, and how much did last night cost us American? A speech in a simple setting would have gone a long way, after all, those who were mesmerised would still have walked to the cool-aid dispencer.
Excuses, Excuses, Excuses!!! That's how it will always be because deep down even his followers know that he will not turn this country around and that he is making promises he can't keep. So while everyone makes him look like our Savior, they are already making excuses for him!!! LOL!!! Hail to the King!
Watever Bush left behing, it will not be the likes of what we will all endure during these trying times and what we will face will have nothing to do with the economy.
People are way too emotionally involved with Obama. He looks like a capable guy, but he's not a miracle worker.
Can you be 1/2 black and still be the first African-American presendent? Is there such thing as the first Anglo-African-American presdident?
Can you be 1/2 black and still be the first African-American presendent? I
If the "one drop" rule was good enough then, it's good enough now...
Responsible1 You can be fully white and be the first African American president. Race does not equal nationality. Please think.
I'm glad someone is finally figuring that out...the term "African American" equaling black is really quite stupid. There are whites that are born in Africa and that move to America as well...so is that white person African American? (In fact, we're ALL actually descendants from the North African area..so we're ALL actually "African American".)
There are also black people that have never been to America...or Africa...are they African Scottish...or...
In other words, just because my ancestory is Scottish, Spanish, Mexican, American doesn't mean I'm going to get offended if you call me "white". Why get up tight about the term "black"...what ever happened to "black is beautiful", "once you go black you never go back", or "say it loud, I'm black and I'm proud".
I think we've let the PC cr@p go a little too far these days
Look, don't call me Scottish-Spanish-Mexican-American, I'm just..."that white guy over there" and I won't take offense.
Let's cut it...really!!!
thank you Shawn
I am so tired of blacks screaming "racist" but in turn having no problem playing that tired old race card when they feel it will give them an advantage.
I would have voted for Barack Obama no matter what color his skin is. I agree that there are some major problems in this country that need to be addressed by a strong leader.
So please stop gloating over the fact that we have a black president and be proud that we have a president who truly cares about the state of this country and will certainly try to make a difference.
And FYI--Obama is African-American; his father is African.
Run Obama run!!!
Until we address the lobbyists, corruption, desire to hold & gain power rather than serve the people and bipartisan politics, it really doesn't matter who is in the Oval office.
good job
mugsmania: Unfortunately, I believe what you say is far too true. To a large extent the lobbyists and other special interest groups have more power than the "President", no matter who that may be. Seems everyone in government "owes" a "favor" to at least one, and many times they owe a large number of favors. I do believe President Obama will be held to a higher standard than previous Presidents - everything he does, or his family, will be put under a microscope and examined for flaws.
Concerned has stated people are too emotionally involved with President Obama - I believe that is totally true. Likewise, even more will be expected of him. I truly hope and pray for the safety of this family as many in this country DO not want him to succeed for any reason. Our people are terribly divided and angry - too much financial burden for nearly every family. Also as stated above, our financial problems did not happen over night, and likewise, will not be solved over night either.
Mr. Bush is, of course, not responsible for ALL the problems we have now, but his 8 years did nothing to help matters either. There is always enough "blame" to go around many tmes over, and I hope our people can find common ground and try to work together instead of against each other. Acceptance of others will be necessary to make things better for all of us. Infighting will have to stop at some point, and the "parties" will have to work together as well. One has to wonder how far down we have to fall before we get up and go forward.
Personally, I wish President Obama a lot of luck and hope he has the strength to do what is best for this country. While I did not vote for either candidate, I do support our President. I would also hope President Obama does NOT try to blame the problems he will face on Mr. Bush - as Kase/numbers has pointed out. I would hope President Obama is a better man than that. We will see.
At least Obama is not putting the lobbyists and cronies in charge like Bush did. That at the least should make things better.
There is way too much hype and high expectations over this inauguration. Obama is not the Messiah, he's not going to be able to solve all of the world's problems, or even all of our country's problems, the economy is going to take a long time to recover, and people ought to just wait and see what he'll accomplish in office before they go singing his praises.
donti: People should also Wait and see what he will accomplish in office BEFORE they Criticize him.
Donti:
I agree with you. People are trying to put Obama on a high Pedestal. And place him as a miracle worker. They are almost to the point where they worship him like some godly creature. They are idolizing him-and placing too much glory before he actually has done what he promised.
The media has placed too much hype on this person. I think they are doing because they can make money off their stories, displaying in magazines-=etcc.
Obama is just another man, politician. And the people who voted him are expecting way too much from him, especially when he wont' be able to keep all his promises.
The reason we are in the rut we are in now, is because of the politician's that are and have been in congress. Funny how the Democrats HAVE out numBered the Republicians in senate seats in congress. Most of the decision making on how America's money was spent came from the Democratic side. Of course the Democrats use the lame blame game instead of placing it on the right party.
Being a passonate Obama supporter I'd like too point you guys in the right direction on why we "hold him up on a pedistal". It's not because he's the first black POTUS (atleast that has absolutly nothing too do with it for me), it's not because he's a Democrat, it's not because he's a liberal, and it's not because he promises too give me anything other than openess and accountabilty.
We love him because his rhetoric makes us believe in the American Spirit once more. He re-established the American pride. . . Inspiring millions not just at home, but abroad. We can all once again step into a foreign country and hold our heads up high and say "I'm an American".
Now, as I've said yes. . . it's Rhetoric. . . But the ability to inspire and to encourage faith and hope is the most important attribute a leader can have. With Obama our faith in our government is restored even if it's just alittle. Now, I don't expect President Obama to be able to solve all of our nations problems. . . But he makes me feel that everything is goin to be okay. Why? Because he reassures us that were all in this mess together and as history has proven. . . when American's rise up and stand together. . . Unified and proud. . . we solve the problems and over come the challenges that face us. . . When we as ONE people act. . . the world as we know it can change. Obama is not our savoir. . . WE THE PEOPLE OF THIS GREAT NATION ARE GOING TO IMPLEMENT THE CHANGE WE SEEK THROUGH OBAMA.
Obama climbed that pedestalpoedestal and put himself there and then made it even higher! He WANTS to be worshiped! Hail to the King!!
waste, waste, waste. Too much money down the drain for this ceremony. too many people hurting, hungry, cold, homeless. But it really doesn't surprise me since all those people worship him like is the messiah coming back for his followers
Waste?! We're americans, we have no right to complain about waste unless we're doing something to directly change the excess. Our whole countries economy exists in an unstable bubble that is popping in slow motion, hopefully we can put aside our need for money and petty desire and care about one another and how our actions affect people around the world, fostering a new way of living. A celebration is always worth spending for, the energy and enthusiasm you feel and nurture doesn't need to have it's cost justified.
its not a waste of money at all. this hole process has been cathargic!!! do you know what that means? it means a cleansing, a purification. we as a nation needed every bit of this hoopla. this is the worlds inauguration. for so many reasons. i am soooo thankful to the obama's for making this an all inclusive celebration. the concert at the memorial, the kids inaugural on disney were exceptional. so far since saturday i have clapped, cried, sang and danced my way thru this inauguration. THIS IS A MUCH NEEDED CELEBRATION. NOT ONE TAX DOLLAR WAS SPENT!!!!!!!!!!!!
big deal i still say this is a waste. you can say what u want it will not change my opinion of this fiasco. He's not the messiah. He is just a man. I'll be glad when this mess is over and he starts getting down to business. Then we'll see what u have to say then
maybe you can share that with the people living on the streets today or those who don't get to eat. Oh, they probably don't have a computer and didn't get to watch Disney channel -
And COMPLETELY not true that not one tax dollar was spent. There were at a minimum $15,000,000 tax dollars spent, but with all the extra secret service that has to continually be around for the last week, I'm positive it is way way way more than that. How do you think government workers (secret service) get paid. That would be tax dollars.
All Americans do is waste. It is a fact we are the most wasteful country in the world. People make choices and most can be blamed for the mess they are in. Ie: predatory lending?? Those people losing a $100k home because they owe $175k?? They benefited one way or another from the cash lent to them and now they claim FRAUD?? Wow and I voted Democratic this time. Just goes to show how bad W is.
and how stupid you are. Anyone in this day and age who has not owned their home for more than 20 years is in the hole. I bought a home for $200,000 on 20 acres 7 years ago and put $150,000 worth of improvements in the home. Now it is worth $135,000. How can I be blamed for that?
As I wrote I am speaking of the CASH OUT deals. You know to pay off credit cards etc. And not ALL...most. What did you do buy on swamp land?? a $200k home needed $150k in improvements sounds like a bad investment to me.
You guys live in the Twilight Zone......pricetag for this is $150 million, thats 110 million MORE than Bush's. Gee, we all must sacrifice (pay the bill) for a bunch of Kook Lib's, during these tough times.
Dawn: I don't know how old you are, but I can tell you there has NEVER been a "cheap" or "frugal" inauguration in this country.
i think it was a complete waste, i would have respect for him if he would have said i don't want to spend this much money on a stupid party, instead i am going to do something beneficial with it , oh but that's right he is human, not super human like most people in awe of him, i voted against him, not going to lie about that , i can't wait till he does something bad like the previous president and all the rest of you start complaining and you know what i will say, you elected him deal with it.
Amen! We're gonna get change. What the idiot dems don't realize is that not all change is good. Obama is gonna take all my change! Change allright!
AMEN!!!! My thoughts and words exactly (to those that listened) he's just a senator whose "experience" was running for President, said all the right things and all those timely promises. Yes, I EXPECT a lot from the messiah, especially when Reagan took over from Carter, over 400 hostages being held by Iran, unemployment over 12%, and housing interest rates in the high to low 20 percentile, it took him less than two years to right the ship.
Give him 2 years...it will happen. Expectations are high but they should be after the disaster of the last 8 years. I have hope!!!
If we gauge where we are as a nation by the comments on other votes on newsvine we are sharply divided on our new leader. While President Obama is a capable person he leads a divided partisan Congress. Our nation did not get in its current state overnight, therefore we won't quickly remedy our ills. We will be tested in these troubled times, both individually and as a nation. My hope is that we will all be inspired by his leadership and set forth a new pledge of allegiance to all citizens of the world. Congratulations to our new leaders, here is to their health, well being and strength for the journey.
Are you kidding me??? A "divided" congress?? Partisan???? Democrats solidly run the show!!!! And be prepared to take And if you guys screw it up to bad, which I think you will.....dont worry.....At least you meant well.
JamesFitz:
The democrats will just pull the famous lame blame game and blame it on the Republicans. They were just a bunch of smooth talkers and some of the voters fell for it.
As for the debts that the American people have, they only have their selves to blame. But just like the Democratic senators they want to use the lame blame game excuse. American households were in charge of their own budget, they should have known what they could or could not spend. So, they only have themselves to blame if they placed themselves in debt.
STOP calling this guy the "MESSIAH"!
It's sacreligous and you sound like a complete synchophant !!!!
Obama has never claimed to be the messiah.
It's really pathetic that this has to be said !!!!
Oprah called him "the one". Calypso Lewey (Louis Farakhan) was the one who referred to him as the messiah.
We're only saying that you are all "treating" him like one! It scares me the way everyone is turning to this guy like he's going to cure the world's ills. Just remember - they treated Bill Clinton the same way at his and then later he was up for impeachment. Take off the rose colored glasses!!
Bill was also in power when the Nasdaq collapsed in March of 2000.It happened on the same day that he gave a speach to Tony Blair that we had mapped the human genome and it would be available to the world for free.
What angers me is the implied assumption that if you support Obama, you think he's the "Messiah", or "the one". The vast majority of Obama supporters that I know don't view him that way. As a matter of fact, in my case, I wasn't an Obama supporter initially. It was over the course of reading about him, and listening to him that I decided to give my my support to him. I will just as readily snatch my support back if I don't like what I see come 2012. Also, even in supporting him, there are weaknesses that I've seen from the beginning but they weren't enough to make me support McCain. There are some that vote for people based on their merits and we aren't looking through rose colored glasses or expecting him to perform miracles.
How ironic - I supported him in the beginning (yes, I'm GOP) and had full intention of voting for him UNTIL I read up on him and his "ideals" - he scares me & I don't scare easy.
People are idolizing him way too much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Hopefully Obama does well and doesn't both Foreign Policy. Anyone who takes office now is in a no lose situation. The economy will get better in at least 4 years and he can take credit. If it goes slower than expected, he can always blame Bush, like the rest of the media has already done.
What has he done that make him so capable? He has not background...he has never accomplished anything prior to this. And yet, we blindly elect him to fix everything. Now, it's time for the excuses from all his supporters"...it's not his fault, he needs more time...he'll fix it eventually. We'll see. I will pray for him, but more than that, I will pray for the people of this country that believe they're owed something. A country that believes the Government can fix everything. Sad day for all us when we look to government and it's leaders to be our hope!
"He Has Not Background.." ?¿?
10 years of senate experience (8 state senate 2 federal) with much aisle crossing bi-partisan solutions. In state senate, sponsored 780 bills, 280 were signed into law.
100% approval rating: League of Conservation Voters, Planned Parenthood. National Education Association gives him an “A” on their most recent scorecard.
His first year as U.S. Senator, Obama held 39 town hall meetings throughout Illinois, and in senate, sponsored 152 bills and resolutions, and cosponsored 427 more
Speaker Harry Reid designated Barack Obama as the Senate point man on ethics. Obama is known unquestionable ethics and integrity.
In the State senate Added health insurance for 20,000 children, Welfare reform,
Earned income tax credit, increased minimum wage ($5.15 to $6.50). Death penalty reform making interrogations be video taped passed Senate 58-0, signed to law by governor who first opposed Obama’s bill. Sponsored bill probing police profiling.
Obama opposed Iraq war publically, long before the invasion. Accurately depicted it as undetermined length, undetermined cost, undetermined objective, resulting as civil war. Same assessment Bush Sr. & Dick Cheney both gave in early 90’s.
In the Federal senate he worked with republican senator Lugar to expand and author
program to locate & dismantle stray Russian WMD’s left over from the cold war after the disbanding of the USSR. Jan. 2007, major ethics/lobbying reform bill, w/ Russ Feingold

McCain. Passed 62-36. Makes undocumented persons who have been here 5+ years only allowed to stay and apply for citizenship, if pay back taxes, learn English and no criminal record. 2 million undocumented persons who have been in the
United States for less than two years would be ordered home. Called for increased fuel efficiency standards (3% / year).
Nope Kelli he has not background, and did not never accomplish anything.
Bravo - well said.
Whatever, anybody can sponser one... how many did he write, what else has he done besides jump on somebody else's bandwagon, He padded his resume...big deal. He has changed his view too many times to count, and thats just in between the last two debates. He is our President and I will stand behind him and hope and pray with everyone else that he can back his mouth up. Unfortunately he has made a whole lot of promises that will never come true but hopefully in between our disfunctional democratic controlled congress and a smooth talking President they can make something positive happen.
Republicans can only blame themselves. If "W" hadn't screwed up sooo bad McCain would probably be in. I feel for McCain I believe he is a good, honest man. Yet on the heels of the disaster that is leaving town with his tail between his legs - too bad so sad Republicans. Now you suck it up for 4 or more years.
If "W" hadn't screwed up sooo bad
Or if W hadn't bludgeoned McCain during the 2000 primary. McCain was the better man than Bush then, and he still is now. Bush has managed to screw this guy over twice. Could you imagine where we would be if McCain had won the republican primary in 2000? I guarantee we would not see nearly as much divisivness in our politics as we have during this past election.
He we go again using the lame blame Democratic politician's excuse of why things didn't go so well. No, you have the Democratic senator's who outnumbered the Republican's. Democrats made most of the decisions in the last year 8-years.
They even lied about voting for the war. I guess it made their listeners feel good.
don't complain about w like the nation had no input of him being there at all, you all elected him, sorry
SLS-827977, I'm sorry, but i'll put all the blame on Dubya as I want. I did NOT vote him into office, and knew it was a bad idea for him to be there in the first place.
This man is an "Obamanation" and will prove to be a worse president that Jimmy Carter. He is totally lacking in experience, honor, credibility or substance....just the product of a well executed marketing program. Once America has discovered what they bought, there will be hell to pay. Unfortunately, it will be America and her citizens that take the hit.
And I assume W had all the positive qualities you expect in a leader? "He is totally lacking in experience, honor, credibility or substance" I couldn't have described George any better. I don't know how he didn't burn this country to the ground with his absurd view of reality.
I am so sick of "Bush Bashers" - if you all truly believe that one man has such power, you need a cold dose of reality.
However, I have adopted a "Obama Bashing" stance in BOs honor, based on the uneducated views in the country. Global warming? Obama's fault. Cold weather? Obama. Isreal? Obama. Solar flares? Obama.
Sound idiotic? Welcome to the world conservatives have had to endure for the last eight years.
I weep for America.
Agreed. But we couldn't expect him to be perfect either. Dick Cheney had something to do with burning America to the ground but I suppose that doesn't make Bush any better. I think he might...maybe just maybe...have lost his mind through those eight years. I don't know how some people didn't become citizens in other countries...this one went in a downward spiral pretty quickly because of them.
Who cares what positive qualities or lack thereof Bush had - Obama wasn't running against Bush!
Expectations had better not have been set to high...All Ive heard from Oprah, and all the other Bush haters is that BHO is the man....So he had better be the man...No excuses...
amen, brother!!!!!
Ditto! Stop idolizing the man
obama set unrealistic expectations! Thats the problem
I look at all the hype, all the tshirts, coins, flags, and the masses of people flocking to this event.....to see a man who hasn't done one ounce of anything as of yet. Why are we treating this man like he's Christ? Has he walked on water? Has he made blind men see? I know for certain he isn't the one that has died for my sins..... Its amazing how people will not wake up on Sunday to attend church, but will drive for miles and stand for hours out in the frigid cold to see a man who hasn't done anything for the American people yet. Come on America are we really that desperate?
your showing your ignorance and that you don't read if you think barack obama hasn't done anything. we as a nation love and look up to barack obama because of his sincerity, his transparency and his openness. his ability to solicit inspiration. the masses love him because he is an honorable man. the past 8 yrs has done incredible damage. with lobbiyist and politicians manipulating things to there own end. look where their greed has taken us. bush/cheney gave corporations free reign. this has not been an administration for the people by the people. its been for the wealthy and the more wealthy. obama changes all that. HE IS HOPE!
I second your reply briarrose2. The few republicans left need to get their heads out of their backsides and need to start being honest with themselves. Facts are facts and W is nothing but an ignorant, selfish, lying joke. My 401k is in the dumper but I'll bet his retirement is bulging. Any company he has had control of he bankrupt includig our country.
and your showing your ignorance by voting for him you..... can keep your change.
Ignorance - failure to see the facts or be honest enough to admit when wrong is wrong.
So, tell us what he's accomplished - other than writing books and being a good snake oil salesman. What are his accomplishments while he was a senator? You say he has accomplished things, but fail to tell us what they are.
Read up above - . Signing off now to watch the new and improved leader get sworn in.
yes, I think that people are desperate and that they will be sorely disappointed. They've annointed this guy like it's the Second Coming - it's ridiculous - the only good part for me will be when his own turn on him for not feeding the masses, walking on water and raising the dead. When they compared him to President Lincoln this morning that was the straw that broke the camel's back - he hasn't done jacks***!!! You people who are acting like he's the Messiah are ridiculous!!! That's OK - his own liberal buddies will eventually turn on him - they eat their young you know - the only thing he's really given any details for is his famous stimulus package, and they were chewing him up about it just last week - we'll wait and see how long this honeymoon lasts - LOL
I hopy you all enjoy eating crow. In two years, or possibly 4, when Obama has improved this nation... you will be.
I agree a lot of flap over someone who hasn't proved anything yet
thank you chris, i am so sick of obama this obama that, don't worry in a few months they will be complaining that nothing has changed, sorry foramerica, im pretty sure you speak too soon.
I can't see how a mixed homosexual could be so popular. Michelle was his first woman before then he was a punk like John Malvo.....
briarrose- Obama is a homosexual Michelle was the first woman he was ever with.....if he is so transparent he should be proud of taking in that "johnson".
Obama- I don't like you as a man, but I respect you as my President. Now that you are in the big seat- you are officially on the hook for the delivery of RESULTS! We are not going to let you forget your promises and the fact that your campaign was built on hope. I pray to God for this nation, and for you- that you may lead us in the right direction. Frankly, I don't think you are even CLOSE to being the right man for the job. Please prove me wrong, Mr. President.
Way way too much money is being spent on this elaborate ceremony. Wasteful or not, the country is in real tough times. It would have been smarter on his part to keep it low(er) key and not so extravagant. Doesn't make me feel all warm and fuzzy when my house is getting foreclosed on and my husband is unemployed and unable to work, just out of surgery.
its not a waste of money at all. this hole process has been cathargic!!! do you know what that means? it means a cleansing, a purification. we as a nation needed every bit of this hoopla. this is the worlds inauguration. for so many reasons. i am soooo thankful to the obama's for making this an all inclusive celebration. the concert at the memorial, the kids inaugural on disney were exceptional. so far since saturday i have clapped, cried, sang and danced my way thru this inauguration. THIS IS A MUCH NEEDED CELEBRATION. NOT ONE TAX DOLLAR WAS SPENT!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is a huge waste of money. And the word is CATHARTIC - not cathargic. I cannot believe you think not one tax dollar has been spent. The amount of money spent on security alone in Washington, DC would feed a small country for quite some time. Or drill quite a few water wells for those in third world countries who have no clean water. Not to mention the fact that the economy is in the cellar.
That being said, we all need to be in constant prayer for Obama. Like it or not, he is now the leader of our country.
And as far as Katrina, I believe it was the Democratic leadership in the state of Louisiana that fell down on the job. Not to mention the fact that people were told to leave well before landfall. IT IS NOT UP TO THE GOVERNMENT TO TAKE CARE OF YOU! My parents were raised in the depression. They taught me to take care of myself and my family. I don't wait for someone else to do it. Nor do I expect anyone to pay my bills. But a lot of you sure expect me to pay taxes so the government can pay your bills.
TO: lets get back to basics....so your theory would be to just abandon the people that did not evacuate. if they decided not to leave f?+*em? ideal, everyone evacuated. reality, they didn't. you have to deal with reality. you save people no matter what. you don't sit back and pass judgement on peoples reasons for staying. that point is irrelevant upon the crisis this natural disaster provoked. where's your heart? where's your compassion? i'm glad i don't live in your world. i grew up with parents like you. i.e., if you don't tow the line and make all the right choices, believe what i believe, SLICE! your cut from the heard. your harshly dismissed as irrelevant. tolerance for only others like you. cynical and never governed by love. always pointing out what others do wrong. never highlighting the positive.
Yes, all the pomp is a bit much. But so are the haters from the 22 percent club foaming at the mouth over it all. Let the people have their celebration. I really can't blame them after the last 8 years.
Obama may get somethings done only because of who is in the House and Congress. but as far as Obama waving his magic wand and fixing everything wrong in the USA that in it self is unbelieveable and for the people of this country who think that Obama is like another Rosevelt or JFK and then they say Lincoln. Sorry to bust your bubble people but those men are DEAD and should never be compared to anyone. President Bush did a great job no matter what the rest of you think he had bills that the House and Congress did not pass which would have benefited our country. And if you have to ask what those bills where then you should not be bad mouthing President Bush.
You can go to Youtube and look up the Britt Hume report on the bills that congress shot down that would have put the reigns on Freddy Mac and Fanny Mae.
I'm still waiting for someone to compare Obama to the anti-Christ. Its happened with several leaders.
BUSH was the worst president ever. he claimed to be prolife but showed such disrespect for other human life. the prisoners whom were tortured. some of them lost their lives. homicide is written on their death certificates. murder is the ultimate torture. the katrina victims. bush's inaction was a disgrace and an embarrassement. bush extends a hand to help the sunami victims half a world away and what did he do for his own people devastated by a natural disaster? imagine being one of those people stuck in your attic after the hurricane waitng for help that never comes and dying while you wait. PATHETIC!
you can most definitely compare presidents to past presidents dead or alive!!!!!
tells us that he was a false prophet, a prophet being one whose calling it is to speak and to teach. The armies of the world may have guns and tanks and bombs to bring people into submission; but the power of speech and ideas is a mighty power. In his initial attempts to destroy the cause of God, the devil used a serpent to deceive the woman with crooked speech: "You will be like God." Now he uses a "dragon" who speaks crafty, lying words. His speeches will be heard by millions who will hang on his persuasive rhetoric. The content as well as the form of his speech will attract. Like most false prophets, he will even be sincere and passionate. But he is a liar. He adds dashes of truth to the mix, so that his lie tastes like truth. He will use all the right catchwords, using the language of the church, even throwing in a Bible text or two. But he is the ultimate Liar, and will deceive many.
He will use every tool available: school teachers, politicians, news broadcasters, artists, musicians, scientists and doctors, lawyers and businessmen. All will be pressed into the service of Antichrist to deceive men. But especially he will use those whose calling it is to persuade and to teach -- men who claim to be preachers of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck....
No President Bush was not the worst ever!!!! I am not a big fan of President Bush but pointing out Katrina is just plain ridiculous. People were warned that it was going to be bad, if you want to start pointing fingers then point them at the Governor of LA and the Mayor of New Orleans. They should have made people leave & provided enough transportation to do so. There were many, many buses that could have been used to help get people out of that city! Yes I heard the excuses as to why they weren't used, from the Mayor of New Orleans, but not of them were plausible!
And on that note--probably not the greatest idea to live in a virtual "bowl" surrounded by water just poised to breach the levees.
But no one wants to point that out. I live in the midwest--TORNADO ALLEY-- and if my house was flattened by one, I wouldn't blame the government. I CHOSE to live here...
It sounds like you're talking about W. He alone was the worst this country has ever had. With Obama we have HOPE more than with any other.

Ok, I'm going to step in and ask this...
When will we stop pointing out the fact that he is a black man(or half or whatever)? This is a good portion of the hype. Who cares what color he is; if he does a good job so be it. If we want to get past racial issues then we cannot point out color either positively or negatively. Make the historical signifigance and move on to the important issues.
I think he is a rookie and will hopefully have some experience on his side to keep him from really stepping in it. I can't say Bush came close to doing a good job but I think his presidency was cast and shot with 9/11. But then again it was Clinton that drained the defense budget that let the terroists in.
Blah, blah, blah, lets just get down to business.
Have some respect. The black man has endured more than any white person will ever know or feel. Let them have their day.
Yeah, just tell that to the Jews. Or Russians under Stalin. Stupid White people and their silver spoons.
The discussion at hand was whether or not expectations were too high. Why is it that in every discussion, it will eventually turn into a fight over race? One of the reasons this country (and the world) is in such turmoil is because of hate. What makes a person stupid is not their race. What makes a person ignorant is not their station in life. And TS-824213, ALL men have endured. Race has nothing to do with it. Religion has nothing to do with it either. Mankind has endured and will continue to endure because we are truly only human.
Gbolahan Faluade - I worry too. I will be praying as well!
Have some respect. The black man has endured more than any white person will ever know or feel. Let them have their day.
I am a black woman and I found this statement idiotic. None of my racial brethren alive had to endure slavery and only a fraction were alive for Jim Crow. Yes our ancestors endured some of the most horrific treatment in history but they did so that WE can be free and not to use their history it as a weapon during debate. I agree that if our country is truly as civilized as we like to pretend we are then his race should not matter. His credentials is what should matter and how he will serve all people, not just blacks. Also, to say that one peoples struggle is greater than another is somewhat arrogant. You cannot gauge some one else's misery so let everyone have their day and not just "the black man".
Only1Paula23....Amen! Amen! Amen!
TS-824213 - Your statement is idiotic. Some of us white folks are of Irish or Indian decent, (myself included, I am Irish/Indian, but my skin is white!) This does not make me a former slave owner. My great-grandmother said she was Mexican instead of Blackfoot Indian to keep the gov't from hauling her away. THE GOVERNMENT! Don't tell me only blacks have endured hardship!
Thank you so much Only1 Paula23! I agree it was the worst thing it could happen to anyone -weather it be black or white and let's not forget the Native Americans as well. I think that is the problem with this country-Not that I didn't want him the office but my concern is the reactions of others using that as a power or using that as accuse to treat other badly because they are of a different race. Two wrongs do not make it right, it just makes a circle of hate and anger. How arewe truly going to have change-if we can't move forward, if we don't attempt too. We can never change the past but we do have control over the future and it holds endles possibilities. I think too that there is too much put on him -he is like everyone else a man and nothing more. People -need to step back a bit an realize that. I for one am sick of the hipe-let's look to what we can accomplish and fix not what tee shirt has his face on it or what have you. I'm just stating a fact.. we need to really consentrate on the issues at hand, here. Get over what happened in the past because that can never be changed and look to future. Yes it was history being made, but let's not forget here that he is half white as well. Everyone is looking over that as well and it seems like that is looked down on and it should never be. If anything that should show everyone that we can get past the past because his parents did. Why does it have to about him being African American? He is white as well? It really bothers me that he they do that, it's not right.
First, close your eyes. Then recall all that has occurred with Obama through the primaries, elections, inauguration and inaugural balls. Do you see it? Can you imagine just being there? To hear all the sounds and excitement of the people there?
Now, open your eyes and imagine Obama is white.
What did you vote for? What he could do for this Nation or for his color?
No I can't sorry.........
The ascendancy of Obama to the White House is remarkable and inspiring BUT I really worry about people expecting from a man what ONLY GOD can provide.
I worry for Obama that people have almost deified him. People need to back off, pray for him and realize that he will make mistakes.
Holly cow, talk about excuses. Where was this talk the last 8 years?
People expect it because Obama set forth that expectation. Unless of course, you didn't vote for him on the "issues", and then you are excused from your point of view, because he apparently has already fufilled your expectations.
Further more, you sound exactly like a former Bush supporter, with your talk of god blessing him and for me to pray for him. If Obama want's salvation, thats between him and his god.
Third, why is everyone already making excuses for him when he hasn't even done anything yet?
Obama made himself appear to be God. He is just like the devil. Smooth talking, and very convincing. All the democrats seem to be in a spell like daze that has killed their sense of morals, and common sense. I am holding him to every single promise he made. There will be CHANGE for sure. It will be all of us changing our underwear after we mess them for how irresponsible and sensless obama is!

Our nation's hope is not pinned upon Obama; he is simply the catalyst. Our expectations spring from our own hopes and dreams; Yes We Can!
