Agreed.  Besides, in the impeachment case he ignored the deadline to call witnesses.  So for him to act like he's the victim here is nonsense.  Sure looks fishy.

Um, we Dems do something about our corrupt politicians.  We get rid of them.  Too bad the Repubs can't say the same thing, otherwise Bush and Cheney would not have finished the first term.

Will you people stop claiming the higher moral ground based upon with which political animal you self-identify?  Republicans get rid of their corrupt politicians likely with the same degree of success as Democrats, but that's only the ones that get caught (on either side).  Both parties probably have the same incidence of corruption - and since there are more democrats to begin with, there are probably more corrupt democrats than republicans!  P.S. oldguru and marty550911 are two fine examples of why ultimately President Perfect will fail - because people don't focus on common goals as much as they focus on how "their side" in a 2-party system is right and the other is wrong (and corrupt!)...

Amen!.......i would look carefully at the comment "ultimately President Perfect will fail", though....it smacks of the same faulty thought process as it was meant to expose.....short-circuiting mental energy by "dissing" whatever.......millions of us are now redoubling our efforts to engage in "community building" and developing "sustainable" systems and processes that transcend both the dem/rep dissfest, as well as crippling cynical notions of anybody being a "President Perfect"..........people ARE focusing on common goals more and more by the hour, and finding some refreshing inspiration in what that can bring..........of course, dissing those that diss, or to address my own comment here, which may well be dissing those that are dissing those that diss, is a sweet and sticky trap, so i will now log off and go outside to work on the community garden we are developing here...........

Fair comments PageOne, my reference to President Perfect is not a slam against Barack as much as an expression of the frustration I faced during this past election where I had zero choice in this "either-or" political system, yet anyone I spoke with then (and now) says that if I don't support Barack then I "just don't get it" and why he deserves the highest approval ratings in the history of tracking them without having done a thing to govern!  BTW, if people were focusing on common goals more and more by the hour, we wouldn't hear comments like the one from Harry Reid that he "doesn't work for Pres Obama [he] works with him."

How can you think he was not treated fairly?  Every elected official goes into office knowing how these type of hearings proceed.  It wasn't like the legislature changed the rules to rush an impeachment.  His behavior followng the charges (refusal to answer them) forced the hand of the Illinios state legislature to act.  I applaud their actions.

Don't let this clown's retoric fool you. Impeachment is not a criminal trial. It only serves to determine if a person has and still can perform their ELECTED duties honorably and effectively. It truly is mostly about perception, character, and trust. No matter if Balgo actually did any of the things he's accused of, the fact that it even LOOKS like he did is enough to concider impeachment. He still has real criminal charges to face down the road, but the institution of Government can't put everything on hold and wait for the results of a criminal trail that will take months to get started and may take YEARS to resolve. His show of "contempt" by not "defending" himself in the impeachment hearings demonstrates his lack of respect for the system of government he swore to uphold upon taking office. It's also a wild slap in the face to the people of Illinois.

Turtledud, Blago's predecessor is a Republican still doing time so stop being blindly supportive of your democrat colleagues and James-838697 what do you base your assessment of Democrats being better at thieving on aside from YOUR purely partisan views?  If the Democrats were truly better at thieving, no one would know that they're thieves!  The real problem here is the 2-party system which pits too many of us against each other rather than against the problems we need to fix...  And, Turtledud, yes, I am an idiot because for years I helped perpetuate poor policy by buying into the 2-party system - this last election opened my eyes that people like me had no real "choice" between a senile fool pandering to anyone who'd give him a vote and an unproven enigma with zero governing experience but a great record of voting "present" who wants to turn us into a government-run country...

The biggest question is:  Why does this man get so much air time and coverage?  He was afforded an opportunity to defend himself (see article 2 days ago) and would have been able to call the majority of his witnesses.  Instead, he chose to seclude himself and only come out to talk to the media.

Sadly, it doesn't matter which political party you belong (subscribe) to--one is as bad as the other and neither has any ethics or morals or really gives a you-know-what about the people they are supposed to represent.  Until that message gets through to our shameless elected officials, we will continue to have the type of government that has been exposed as corrupt, swindling, and self-serving.
