He's attempting to sow doubt by conflating the legislative impeachment proceedings with his impending criminal trial. Not the same thing.

He's being treated a  little "too" fairly --  it's been common knowledge in Illinois for years that he was being investigated for corruption / selling jobs / pay to play, etc. He should have been impeached long ago; instead it took Fitzgerald arresting him to get anyone in the state legislature moving on this.

Agreed.  Besides, in the impeachment case he ignored the deadline to call witnesses.  So for him to act like he's the victim here is nonsense.  Sure looks fishy.

Will you people stop claiming the higher moral ground based upon with which political animal you self-identify?  Republicans get rid of their corrupt politicians likely with the same degree of success as Democrats, but that's only the ones that get caught (on either side).  Both parties probably have the same incidence of corruption - and since there are more democrats to begin with, there are probably more corrupt democrats than republicans!  P.S. oldguru and marty550911 are two fine examples of why ultimately President Perfect will fail - because people don't focus on common goals as much as they focus on how "their side" in a 2-party system is right and the other is wrong (and corrupt!)...

Amen!.......i would look carefully at the comment "ultimately President Perfect will fail", though....it smacks of the same faulty thought process as it was meant to expose.....short-circuiting mental energy by "dissing" whatever.......millions of us are now redoubling our efforts to engage in "community building" and developing "sustainable" systems and processes that transcend both the dem/rep dissfest, as well as crippling cynical notions of anybody being a "President Perfect"..........people ARE focusing on common goals more and more by the hour, and finding some refreshing inspiration in what that can bring..........of course, dissing those that diss, or to address my own comment here, which may well be dissing those that are dissing those that diss, is a sweet and sticky trap, so i will now log off and go outside to work on the community garden we are developing here...........

Fair comments PageOne, my reference to President Perfect is not a slam against Barack as much as an expression of the frustration I faced during this past election where I had zero choice in this "either-or" political system, yet anyone I spoke with then (and now) says that if I don't support Barack then I "just don't get it" and why he deserves the highest approval ratings in the history of tracking them without having done a thing to govern!  BTW, if people were focusing on common goals more and more by the hour, we wouldn't hear comments like the one from Harry Reid that he "doesn't work for Pres Obama [he] works with him."

Where was it ever written that anyone (a citizen, mayor, governor or even the president) was guilty before a fair trial.  He has done some very good things for Illinois and I also believe that these proceedings are a sham (long before he decided not to participate).  Wait until the people of Illinois see what they will get in the next governor.  I can guarantee that taxes in Illinois (just like Chicago) will lead the nation.  I don't know if Governor Blagojevich is innocent or guilty but he has not been treated fairly in any way, shape or form.

How can you think he was not treated fairly?  Every elected official goes into office knowing how these type of hearings proceed.  It wasn't like the legislature changed the rules to rush an impeachment.  His behavior followng the charges (refusal to answer them) forced the hand of the Illinios state legislature to act.  I applaud their actions.

Don't let this clown's retoric fool you. Impeachment is not a criminal trial. It only serves to determine if a person has and still can perform their ELECTED duties honorably and effectively. It truly is mostly about perception, character, and trust. No matter if Balgo actually did any of the things he's accused of, the fact that it even LOOKS like he did is enough to concider impeachment. He still has real criminal charges to face down the road, but the institution of Government can't put everything on hold and wait for the results of a criminal trail that will take months to get started and may take YEARS to resolve. His show of "contempt" by not "defending" himself in the impeachment hearings demonstrates his lack of respect for the system of government he swore to uphold upon taking office. It's also a wild slap in the face to the people of Illinois.

As much as I dislike Oprah, keep her out of your pathetic pity mongering whiny drama, and everyone else who you are trying to grab on your way down, as you drop lower and lower into your own little bottomless pit of shame and corruption. He has every right to appeal to the left-wing talk shows and what he hopes is a sympathetic left-leaning media in NYC for a platform.

Is Blago's behavior over the top, whiney, and a disgrace? Of course it is. However, he was legally elected to office and he did, at some point, have the IL voters behind him.

And all the Dems I know and all the reports from lefty publications have unwaveringly embraced the angelic virtues of Mr. Bragofanitch! Disgracing a Dem is obviously a left wing conspiracy to to make the Dems seem sympatheticin order to further the covert plan of making the GOP look good. Duh! As for this phrase "getting the government you deserve"... WTH does that even mean. Do idiots really deserve an idiot government? What about the last 8 years? Are you willing to call yourself an idiot?

Sadly, it doesn't matter which political party you belong (subscribe) to--one is as bad as the other and neither has any ethics or morals or really gives a you-know-what about the people they are supposed to represent.  Until that message gets through to our shameless elected officials, we will continue to have the type of government that has been exposed as corrupt, swindling, and self-serving.

He dares to compare himself to those who were oppressed? We in Illinois are the oppressed and we want him out. If a special vote were approved, he would be gone.

He will be impeached, he, and probably his wife will do prison time. No question, they will play the martyr role and wait for the book offers to come in. Certainly, they will do the Talk Show circuit and milk their fifteen minutes of fame for all its worth. Essentially, he and his wife are abysmal  failures. But on the other hand, they have brought the image, held by most of the nation and world of Illinois to an all new low (if even that is possible). Gee, does he still rate and official portrait in the capital??
