While he was a candidate to perform at Super Bowl XLII, 2009 marks the first time Bruce Springsteen has performed at the halftime show.

The halftime entertainment at the Super Bowl was the worst entertainment I've ever seen. The Radio City Rockettes would have put on a better show and would have been a lot cheaper to hire. Who in the world picks these entertainers?
According to an interview I read with one of the band members, Springsteen had been on the invite list to perform at halftime since the 70's...it's just now that he had finally chosen to accept---thankfully! Bruce's intent in planning that show was to show the world what it's like to be part of the last 12 minutes of one of his concert encores at the Meadowlands in NJ--and that he did! Well, minus the fireworks and choir, of course. Either way, the performance was the best I've seen of any Super Bowl halftime show yet!! BTW, Bruce's and the band members' performance fees were reported to be zippo. Nada. Zilch.
I put on the Puppy Bowl, I hate Springsteen. He sucks
Prince's performance at Super Bowl XLI is still tops!
I loved the springsteen set...although prince and petty were also fantastic...what do you expect for a 12 minute set? it is funny they even try to put on a show for 12 minutes really...they could save money and go back to the bud-bowl halftime shows and no one would really notice anyway, but as long as their going to put on shows, they might as well get people who have energy and know how to perform and springsteen proved himself capable.
This is not close! Michael Joseph Jackson is the first major artist to do the Super Bowl half time show and he is the only artist to spike attendance during the game, look it up. As he has been throughout his career, he is the ultimate entertainment innovator. Say what you will about the man but you can't deny the facts, The King Of Pop reigns supreme and it ain't even close!!!!
No halftime entertainment at all would be fine by me. Let the game stand on it's own merits.
U2 was the best one I ever saw.
We really loved watching Bruce and the East Street Band last night at my home! Great show - espeically in HD!!! My one regret is that I didn't think to DVR the performance in time to catch all songs. My all time favorite Super Bowl performance by far!
Bono was the best. But it is totally an aberration to stick a stage/people on the playing field, jam 12 minutes of concert (songs are butchered) echoing off a stadium full of fans...
And what would have made Bruce tolerable last night, and other artists for the future, is NEW material never otherwise heard. Then there is a reason to play and a reason to listen.
To louis wilson, michael jackson was a complete mess, only his/hers/its ego showed up. U2 in 2002 was the ultimate!
To Dennis-855037,
You are just the guy I've been looking for, someone fully qualified to answer this question for me: Is ignorance really bliss?
I watched the half time show through PIP to wait for another commercial and for the begining of the 2nd half. I respect Bruce, but not a fan.
Bruce rocked the whole stadium as usual. Those that did not enjoy the show obviously do not enjoy life and just like to be mean.
He and the band had a great time and I am sure everyone in the stadium as well as those watching enjoyed the show even if they are not Bruce fans. He is an entertainer!!
