Way to blow its refs, just like 04. Hey Harrison! Why don't you go beat up some kicker your own size AFTER the whistles blown! LOSER & a PI
Steelers won fair and square. Its not Pittsburg's fault that Kurt Warner FUMBLED the football. Check the replay, Warner didn't have control
With the two best parts of their team (defense and running) letting them down, someone had to step up. Ben & Holmes did. That's the story.
Big Ben became one of the elite QBs in all of football. He is not just a QB, he is a football player. And one hell of one at that.
What, the obvious incomplete pass not reviewed to end the game is not even on the list?
Terrible. Not only the call, but the lack of review and the lack of comments by ANY of the 11 reporters NBC had covering the event. Are you telling me that none of NBC's folks questioned the ending? Heck, there was 30+ seconds of silence after the last snap. My guess is that someone was telling Al and John to leave it alone. Terrible.
I completely agree, the incomplete pass to end the game was incorporated within the poor officiating contained in the game. At one point the Cardinals had 10 penalties for 92 yards and the Steelers had 2 for 15. I particularly like the lack of mentioning Harrison's personal foul when holding down a Cardinals player and hitting him with a closed fist, which he should have been ejected for, some hero.
NBC's coverage was aweful. A possible incomplete pass called as a fumble and no review, and NBC staff just ignores it. Plus, there was only one instant replay. Just terrible.
As a Seattle Fan, I was hoping for some karmic vindication from the "AWFUL" officating a few years ago, seems the officials were still still in tank for the Steelers, though not as obvious as the Seahawk-Steeler SuperBowl.
Good questions guys. Here's a story that says the officials ruled right away that it was a fumble and no replay was needed.
I think they had to review it...even if they knew they were right
All the fans would feel so much better for at least knowing...not just having a questionable call and then shootin the confetti and gettin the cards off the field
You are a sorry bunch for being negative and petty. The Steelers, who are best team in the Country, won with a great defense and strong offense.
Don't forget the touchdowns that the Steelers should have had, one by Rothlisberger and the other by Hines Ward that weren't counted because of the lousy, egotistical officiating.
Study the tape yourself dill-wad. The ball came out, B-E-F-O-R-E, his arm started forward. Can't you Steelers Haters come up with something every year that's more original than the officiating? I guess not. Quit whining.
Totally agree, me thinks I smell the same stank from 04...
The last play should've been booth reviewed. The rules state that any controversial play must be reviewed by the booth in the last 2 minutes. Never mind that the title was weighing in on this call, way to blow it again refs. Steelers once again a tainted victory just like '04. When will you play like the rest of us? You're a good team, but stop throwin the refs on your side, you coulda still won...
Learn the game before you come out and spout your ignorance as "obvious".
Woodley had his hand on the ball before Warner was able to move his arm forward to throw, and caused the ball to move while Warner's arm was coming UP not FORWARD. That means Warner did not have posession of the ball, therefore it could not be an incomplete pass! Pick up a rulebook in the offseason so you don't embarass yourself again next year.
This was the worst superbowl game I have ever watched and I'm 54 years old. Not only are the Steelers the dirtiest team in football, the officiating needs to be looked at. How many cheap punches did the steelers throw? Is that part of football now? Why wasn't good old 92 ejected after his cheap shot? And I truely beleive that the refs were for the Steelers. The amount of penalties for the Cards was ridiculous compared to a cheapshoting steelers team. Lombardi must be rolling over in his grave. The steelers shoudln't even have their hands on the trophy at all. They are nothing but a bunch of punks. Worst game I ever saw. And I'm wasn't for either team.
Jimmy Brown is right. Woodley had his hand on the ball before ANY forward movement began. Two people can't throw the ball. Only ONE can can throw the ball and Only ONE can have control for it to be a pass.
The booth officials DO review the play just as we do when the broadcast shows slow-motion video of it. IF it is questionable, they call for a review. The review in slow-motion by the you, the viewer and by the Official in the booth shows that Woodley's hand was ON TOP OF THE BALL prior to forward movement. At that moment TWO people control the ball. There's NO need for further review because there can be no pass with two people controlling the ball.
My favorite thing is that James Harrison lost a guaranteed MVP by acting like a common street hood with his flagrant penalty in the fourth quarter. It is amazing that that it was more important to this guy to show the world what a classless moron he is than be MVP. Always aspiring to be garbage, what a loser!! And how does the non-reviewed play not make the list? Is it MSNBC polishing up NBC TV Network's big show? Probably. Pro football has about as much credibility as boxing. The ref's were a little to eager to get the "Amazing" comeback in the books.
James Harrison is a Thug and and a Bully! (Probably the result of all those ROIDS is on and the result of not getting an education I expect him to land where he belongs (in prison) very soon and that will be the best thing that could happen to pro football!
Take it all in my fellow Steeler fans. The first of many haters to come during the off-season. Bask in their crushing dissapointment and bitter denial. It's going to be a great summer!
The Steelers win the game big deal, BUT Cardinal know now how to win watch out NFC the Cardinals are for real.. Thanks Kurt and the Cardinals for a great game.. Take this game and build upon it... Next year you will want it moe than ever.... GO CARD'S
hey the card won 9 games 6 in their division, the worst division in the league
Biggest story? Where's James Harrison's "I should have been ejected but didn't" story line?
waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa ;( what a bunch of girls you are.
c'mon... admit the wrong, you coward (el diablo).
His action was so terrible, I can't believe he wasn't kicked out of the game. Refs...
I agree. He should have been ejected and fined, and hey, maybe forfeit a RING. That might get his attention! And this guy was supposedly Defensive Player of the Year? Wow, what a class act.
For real! You people really need to get a tissue and wipe up your tears. In case you didn't know ALL the football players out there will land additional, after the tackle/sack etc, punches .. pushes etc.. etc.. You just don't see them.. It just so happens he got penalized and it was shown on national TV.. Not that I agree with his actions but you guys are pathetic!! This is football..
How about a vote on sportsmanship? Where do the Steelers get off throwing so many punches and even their helmets in the fourth quarter? I'm not much of a fan of either team, but I feel glad I don't live in Pittsburgh. I would be ashamed.
It's football. It's a physical game. James Harrison is my hero. I like that he has a nasty streak. It's reminds me of Jack Lambert and Joe Green, and people worship those guys as football Gods, but since the rules have changed to accomodate "the workforce" anytime a player takes it a little to far people whine like a bunch of little kids. I wish I did live in Pittsburgh. It's the last city that still plays actual football. Maybe you'd prefer the Arena league or perhaps the CFL?
You have seriously questionable morals if he's your hero for punching a guy in the face multiple times...serial killer
And seriously some of your best players came from the CFL... Warren Moon, Doug Flutie, Kenton Keith, Rocket Ismail. ricky williams couldn't handle the north, broke his arm from too hard of a hit
James - I'm glad you don't live in Pittsburgh too.
Yeah how about Harrison. Way to beat up a kicker whose half your size, counted about 8 punches. Then as soon as he lets the poor guy up he floors him. Oh, and this all happened after the whistle called the ball dead. Please tell me... Why wasn't he ejected?
My morals are fine. And aside from Warren Moon (who stayed out of the NFL on Principle) all of those Players are guys who are inconsistent at best. And let's be honest Rick Williams can barely handle being in Pro football period. Also it wasn't a kicker it was Aaron Fransisco (a Defensive Back) and it was one punch (in the pads) he then threw him to the ground and it was awesome.
obijon and fisherman144 are both richard craniums. The Cards challenged two of the incompetant calls and won. Plus they missed the block in the back on the interception return for a td and the side judge was right there. It was a good game but Harrison should be ashamed of being a punk and tainting his DPofTY award. Its fine that the two of you have your opinion and some points of it may be right (or close anyway) but you dont have to be a couple jerks about it. Congrats on looking like arrogent whiners yourself.
Eagle, go back and watch it. Nobody punched anybody in the face "multiple times". The Cards just dealt Harrison an illegal chop block a play or two prior that could have ENDED HIS CAREER if he had landed differently. Dude deserved to be pissed, and he was provoked by the Cardinal on the sideline. Yeah, he should have stayed cool, but when being faced with dirty bird players, I can't blame him too much.
Harrison was called for the excessive rag doll toss on Fitzgerald. Pinning the opponent is part of the game. The one punch was illegal as well. The pushing on the back to pin the opponent is not illegal and is used often by linemen.
Now... Harrison was held almost every play that he rushed. He was face-masked as many times too. Even the ONE holding call that the Cardinal tackle received should have been face-masking because that is where the holding occured.
obijon, your morals are NOT fine.
Wow.. I watched the whole 4th quarter.. I didn't see "all" the punches you claimed to see.. do you need glasses?
I don't see how my enjoying some old school grindhouse football has anything to do with my morals...The league imposes these rules so the the "Star" players don't get hurt it's all about money for them. I'm not saying we should allow fighting in football, and hell Harrison should have been flagged for it, but to treat him like he's some evil player is silly. When he puts on the Pads and walks out onto the field he's aggressive it's why he's so good. As someone who can watch old 70's era Steel Curtain clip all night long his play makes me think some people still want to play football like it was invented to be played.
Seriously, how is that last play not reviewed. I know in every major sporting event the league prefers one team, but could they have made it more obvious tonight. I was completly impartial and noticed the preferential treatment towards the Steelers. If I was a Cardinals fan right now I would be devastated.
Why is it that everyone that likes the Cardinals or hates the Steelers throws all logic out the window and uses the old "the league/refs wanted the team to win"? The last time I checked the refs called a questionable holding call in the endzone when the game was basically over with that first down pass. I guess they used their ESP to determine that the Cardinals would score quickly and leave enough time for the Steelers to easily drive 88 yards for the winning score.
I acknowledge that the refs were bad in this game, just don't act like any call that went against your team was bad and any call against the other team was correct.
The last play was reviewed. It just didn't take them long to see that the ball was not in Warner's control that's why it was a fumble. I think people are just upset because the officials upstairs called what apparent to them according to the rules, and didn't take three minutes to do it. The rule has two parts 1. The Quarterback has to have forward arm motion 2. The Quarter Back has to have control of the ball. His arm was moving forward but f you look at the ball it was falling out of his grip.
Go you tube and type in "Kurt Warner Fumbles?"
watch closely you will see the ball turn around when Warner's arm is stretching back to throw
I'll admit it's close, but it was a fumble.
As a Seahawk fan, its apparent. Refs rule the day. Clearly the Cardinals outplayed the Steelers. Oh well. Who cares....The Super Bowl isn't about the better team only about the made for TV drama.
what a liar and homo you are. the steelers won-- get over it. maybe try reading a book (may i suggest Derrick Jensen's Endgame?) or doing something productive with your life-- jesus it was a great game and the black n gold won. If the cards were so good they would have won. period.
seriously? you're the biggest dumb@$$ ever...Be glad you guys payed to win...but keep your bull $hit comments to yourself...cause to me and i'm sure to everyone else you look like an idiot fan who is probably European and still thinks football is soccer. You just called a guy a homo for stating the reffing was bad in the super bowl... What are you 12?
Man, you'd think that the Seahawks fans would give it up after three years of being proven wrong about their XL conspiracy theories but I guess you'd have to a) know the game, and b) have class to be able to move on from that. When will the NFC learn that you don't get away with holds in the Super Bowl?
LMAO
have class? coming from steelers' fan?
Yup!! Its all the refs fault. In fact when the Steelers lost to the Eagles earlier in the season it was the refs fault .. oh and the Indy game.. that was the refs fault.. wait a sec wasn't it the refs fault when they lost to the Giants and the Titans.. Yup, I do recall it was.. Give me a F*&^ing Break.. The Steelers lost those games because they sucked it up!! The Steelers won the Super Bowl because they were the better team at the right time!! Quit your crying and man up.. $hit Head!
Wait, matter of fact it is a conspiracy.. Super Bowl XL was won by the Steelers because of Jerome Bettis and his homecoming in Detroit. And Super Bowl XLIII was because of the "6" Super Bowl trophies and the planets coming in alignment with the Big Dipper's most northern star!
Yeah, jc4rang. Have class. Coming from a Steelers' fan.
If you think that the Cardinals fans, including their mascot and the mayor of Phoenix wiping their armpits/blowing their noses in a gimmick that was created to RAISE MONEY FOR MENTALLY HANDICAPPED CHILDREN have acted with class, then I am not suprised and frankly GLAD that you and I have different definitions of the word.
Great exciting football game , but biggest story was number of unfilled legitimate advertising spots-- taken up by NBC TV show promos or nontraditional media promotions especially upcoming movies, as opposed to typical icons of advertising. Only ones left are Bud, Pepsi, Ford Focus and a few .coms that were meaningless. A sign our economy is in shambles.
I feel worse for you Seahawk fan, because that was even worse 3 years ago. it's ridiculous.
I agree.. How's your basketball team doing Seattle?
Possibly the worst officiated game ever! Certainly they missed the clip on the int. return and when in the history of the NFL have they ever completed a review in less than 10 seconds. I also think it was the worst camera work ever by a network to broadcast a Super Bowl. The replays on all of the "penalties" were none existant. Thank gooness for TIVO.
I guess the "fix" was in. Congratulations to the Steelers and hopefully the Cards can come back next year.
You must have not watched the superbowl 3 years ago...lol
Your right.. didn't you see when Tomlin tripped the Cardinal's defensive guy on the Harrison run back?? The dude would have had him tackled like at the 35 yead line.. dam refs!
Ummmm... wasn't the INT and run-back all along the Arizona side of the field? If anyone should be pissed it's Larry Fitzgerald. He was blocked by one of his own guys on the sidelines during the return. Fitz probably would caught up to Harrison around the 15 rather than the 5 if it wasn't for his own team.
Watching ESPN now, waiting to see what they say during their highlight package. Warner's mention in his post-game was the only utterance on NBC after the game. I still can't believe it.
Cardinals outplayed the Steelers the whole game except maybe the 1st quarter. The only thing that stopped the cardinals was the penalties. Where was this killer defense. If the cardinals didn't keep getting those holding penalties, I don't think the Steelers would of stopped them. Steelers got all the breaks, calls and luck and still the Cardinals almost won it. The steelers are kissing something right now for the how this game was called. Cardinals had many chances in that last drive to stop Pittsburg. They had Big Ben scrambling, just one of those times to get sacked, you would have a different Super Bowl Champion.
they HELD you moron-- that's why they got holding penalties! Lol. If they hadn't HELD then the old-man warner would have been dropped on his a$$. listen to yourself-- you are so gay.
What's is your IQ 1cocl2duel? 88? lol.
diablo you're IQ must be f.ucking 0 , the steelers are a bunch of pussies and so are you, enjoy your @!$%#hole of a city know as @!$%#tsburgh
El Diablo is another blowhard douche bag. Two won challenges and a missed block in the back on the int for a td (and the side judge was right there). No replay or review on the last play when Warner clearly had the ball in his hand and still did after his arm was hit. The Steelers won and that is what will be remembered in a couple years but right now, the poor officiating and the lack of luck on the defense to stop the Steelers on the last drive is what is remembered now. Hey El Diablo, stop being a @$$.
Oh, and have a nice day.
I disagree that the Steelers were outplayed. There were a lot of penalties, yes, and both sides got hit with many of them. I really felt like the Steelers were the stronger team, the Cardinals should have stopped them many times, but didn't. The Cardinals made some bad calls, and didn't play as smart as they could have. The Steelers stayed focused, and got the job done. I agreed with the last call, although I admit it was a difficult one that should have been reviewed for longer. However, the chances that Warner could have thrown a successful Hail Mary to win the game are very slim. Likely it would have been intercepted.
But Warner and the Cards should have still had that chance for the hail mary. That was taken away by a very quick, very poor review.
Fitzkreig, you do know that Larry Fitzgerald played for Pitt, right? I'm sure he doesn't think of it as @!$%#tsburgh. Have some class.
And , it's spelled P-I-T-T-S-B-U-R-G-H.
I agree .. the cardinals out played the Steelers oh and by the way didn't you see Elvis singing with Bruce at half time?
This was the first Super-Bowl I've watched in a long time, and with that being said, I don't think either team deserved to win. The Cardinals shot themselves in the foot with all the penalties and Pittsburgh showed poor sportsmanship (I'm looking right at you Harrison).
The NFL has joined the David Stern led NBA in game fixing. Both of these heads need to be taken out back for a good old fashion as ass whipping, tarred and feathered and run out of this Country! They are both a disgrace to their sports!!!!
You know your rights.. and the New World Order is just right around the corner! Did you see Elvis singing with Bruce at halftime too?
Did anyone think that the 3 Unsportsmanlike penalties that were called against the cardinals on the Steelers drive was very questionable? First they call a late hit on the QB, even the announcers said that was not a penalty. Then the face mask penalty. I agree it was a face mask penalty but did you also notice at the exact same time, same players, that the steeler had his hand on the cardinals face mask. When the call was made, everyone seen the steeler face masking the Cardinal and thought it was going against the Steelers. How can you not see both face masks penalties when they involve the same 2 people?
Reuters has a great photo of this Rodgers-Cromartie vs. Santonio Holmes facemask penalty where you can clearly see Rodgers-Cromartie's fingers wrapped around Holmes' facemask, while Holmes is stiff-arming Rodgers-Cromartie's helmet, his fingers not on the facemask.
But hell, photographic proof didn't shut up the Seahawks three years ago, I don't expect it to shut up the Cards Apologists either.
The offensive player will almost never be called for hands to the face on a stiff arm... thats as legal as it gets. Grabbing the face-mask to bring someone down however is illegal and was called right.
Congrats to the Steelers on their victory, but NBC's coverage stunk. Once again we had to listen to how the Steelers are the winningest team in NFL history, and Costa's comment that they are the most storied franchise in all of sports. Apparently NBC has lost the record book on league championships: Yankees 26, Canadiens 24, Celtics 16, Lakers 14, Packers 12, Maple Leafs 11, Red Wings 10, Baseball Cardinals 10, Bears 9, NY Football Giants 9 and, oh yeah, Steelers 6. And who the heck thought we wanted to hear Matt Millen's opinion about anything?
Keith O ruined the game, we don't need liberal commentators throwing thier spin in sports.
What a surpise, El Diablo shows his intelligance once again with some profanity and put downs. He must clean toilets for a living or work in the service industry. His IQ and manners state his position in society. Way to make the human race look smarter with your intellect.
Hey you moms calling downstairs to where you live, breakfast is ready.
The irony of Fitzkrieg11 calling anybody classless is not lost on the intelligent.
he has a higher IQ than you rcozad. many LEFTIST like football. F-off... lol.
...
diablo shut the @!$%# up the steelers are classless @!$%#s they will get their asses beat next year, enjoy your two fake rings you pussy @!$%#
f.uck you
*throws flag*
El Diablo-854859 and Fitzkreig 11, you're each suspended for a day for violating #1 of the Code of Honor.
Jodeman and jimmybrown7, you should read the CoH, too.
Well, they addressed it on ESPN. I'd call it a fly-by, but at least they did question the lack of a review and they also mentioned the penalty.
One more thing. You noticed when the Steelers get their big penalties, they don't hurt. We down the ball at the 1 yard line and Harrison during the mean time is beating a player to a pulp and he gets a penalty. Half the yardage to the goal. 1 half yard. I also believe the only reason they called that penalty in the endzone to give the cardinals the safety was to allow them to kick off from the 20 instead of the 1. They didn't think Pittsburg was going to convert on the 3rd and 10. Since the Cardinals needed a touchdown no matter if they got the safety or not. Being down 6 or 4, you still need a TD. The Cardinals would of got great field position if they kicked from the 1. Yes I am a Cardinals fan but I have watched the Cardinals in all these games and never thought of the referees. You shouldn't know they are there. Everyone knows the calls determined the outcome. The clip on the 100 yard interception play was right in from of them near the goal line. I know that it was a great play and they didn't want to erase it with a penalty.
Are you kidding me? San Antonio Holmes was on the money on the last big play of the game you dorks....You could have negated every play the Cards had on offense with all the holding they committed to keep Steelers from getting to Kurt all day, much like what happened in the AFC championship game against the Ravens....
I will admit there were some bad calls, but we didn't score points on them, very good....maybe Harrison was getting jacked because he was held all day.
As for the last play, it was legit...I am often one to say 'OMG' if i see a gimme or gotcha or whew moment, but Rothlesberger threw a perfect pass over 3 friggin defenders, Holmes feet were in and together as he had possession....so fu&k all of you for being poor losers....this game would have been hard to fix...so screw you for saying so....nail biter through the end, I thought the steelers were going to lose this one, but Ben did it, and did it legit....and Seattle fans still crying about losing? How many dropped balls by your class receiver team that super bowl? Too many for you to have won that game.....so, all of you, go f urself
Nobody is saying the Holmes catch was not good. It was a great play. No controversy at all on it. So it is OK for Harrison to do that if he has been held the whole game? You also watched him instead of the game to see if he was getting held. I don't care about the last play. Even if it is an incomplete pass the game was still a miracle for one or two more plays. You didn't mention the calls that went the Steelers way on one drive. 3 unsportsmanlike penalties. All questionable. Even the face mask because, as the steeler was getting face masked, he was doing the same to the Cardinal. It should of been called on both. What about the clip right in front of the ball carrier on the 100 yard INT return. If you are not going to call everything, then be consistent. Call them on everything or not but do it for both teams.
Also, it looked like the Cardinals defense was the Killer defense except on the last drive. That is because they played prevent defense. You seen the cardinals in the second half put the clamps on the Steelers. You also mention that there were bad calls but you didn't score on them. Did you ever think that the Cardinals were battling against the clock too? Those calls allowed more time to be taken off the clock. When you are down in the 4th quarter, the leading team wants to take time off the clock. What do you think would of happened if there were 2 more minutes in this game? I have a pretty good idea. Congrats to Holmes, that was a spectacular catch and getting those feet down. No one questioned the play but you have to look at it with 35 seconds left in the game. By the way, on that 100 yard return, the ball touched the ground, not his knees. It should not of been a TD. I knew it wasn't going to be overruled because it was to fantastic of a play to mean nothing. It would not go down in the hi lite reels. That is also why the clip wasn't called. I understand it and agree with it but they need to make it up to the cardinals on other plays and they didn't. That is how it is done. Allow the great plays but make up for it later.
exactly craymorr2003. exactly
game was rigged, those personal fouls were BS, and Harrison needs to be shot
OMG El Diablo made a comment without a putdown or slander. He of course agreed with another guy that shows his intellect with being an @$$. You two should get together and have a beer and discuss how long fries should be in the fryer. Or how much secret sauce needs to be on the Big Mac.
Maybe your moms will let you out of the house for a play date! Enjoy the win cuz the last drive by the Steelers was great. But the zebras blew another game and Harrison should have been tossed. Congrats on being blow hard, foul mouthed, douche bags.
2cocl2duel - the first part of James Harrison to touch the ground on his 100-yard INT TD return was his head. Inside the goal line. Even with Larry Fitzgerald illegally coming in from out of bounds and touching the play. Give it up!
Can't beat the Boyz from the 'Burgh! Thank you for another beautiful season and another Vince Lombardi Trophy!! You guys are the greatest!!!
Congrats to the Cardinals also on a well-played, hard-fought game and getting into the Super Bowl when nobody thought you could do it.
Finally a great comment from a Steelers fan. It takes a woman to make you all look like non Neanderthals. BTW, my brother is a Steelers fan and has been for years. And he sat in a room with 12 people going for the Cards and he wasnt a dick about the ribbing he was getting. He did throw some back but at least he had class. There are a couple of you out there. Julie-415147, thanks for not being like El Diablo, fisherman144, or Craymorr2003.
You're in Easy Mode. If you prefer, you can use XHTML Mode instead. |
Larry Fitzgerald for the Cards, Santonio Holmes for the Steelers.
