They well never ever be a John Madden and Al Michaels the two of them are simply the best!! Nicole-Miami
John Madden was the man, I almost cried today when I heard he was retiring. He made the game fun. I always looked forward to seeing him on the opening game of every season, He would be shaking with excitement, you would think it was Christmas time. He picked a great time to retire and good luck to him.
Madden was the best. But replacing him with Collinswoth...please...you have to be kidding...this is a very bad move. This guy is so overexposed and will not be a good fit on SNF. A sample survey of 20 or so in the office and 17 of the repondents said they can't stand this guy. What doe NBC see in this guy? There are so many other choices that would be a better fit. I've decided to watch on tv but listen to radio on Sunday nights
Cris Collinsworth to replace this legend? Please. Mostly everyone I know can not stand this guy. Very bad choice.
Amen. Keep that boob in the studio where he belongs. NBC needs to realize they may have to go out of their own house on this one.
Hearing Pat Sumerall and John Madden on Sunday afternoon always meant that this was the game of the week. Like Keith Jackson in college, Madden will always be the voice of NFL football. Enjoy your retirement, John! We are already missing you.
John made football FUN!! We are really going to miss him!!!
John never made it a secret that he hated the Steelers and bashed them whenever possible. Even when he DID say something good about them he made it seem like it was an anomoly
About time. He was long past it. Collinsworth will be several times better than Madden. Used to love the guy but it was no longer about the televised game anymore. It was Al and John trading stories.
Absolutely
your right . BLAH BLAH BLAH. Did not even see what was happening on the field .Never right.
I've been a fan of John Madden since I was a little girl, when year after year those Pesky Steelers kept Madden and The Snake outta the Superbowl. After they made it and John announced his retirement from the Raiders, I was very sad. John Madden was NFL football to me. . . . and then life got even better. Coach Madden was amazing from his very first broadcast. Week after week for all these years I have tuned in to whatever game he was calling. It didn't matter who was playing, if Madden was broadcasting, we watched. He explained the game so well, even a girl like me could understand it. I wish him every happiness in his well earned and deserved retirement; but Sundays are never going to be the same. Period.
I started watching football when I was 7 years old and fell in love with the game because of Pat Summerall and John Madden all those years ago on CBS. I never thought this day would come when he'd call it a wrap...Sunday Night Football will never be the same.
Madden filled the games with excitement. He explained it so well that I became a loyal fan of the sport. He made everything come alive. I'll miss him. Have a great retirement John.
There will never ever be a John Madden and Al Michael's. Simply the Best better than all the rest. Oh! How can I forget about Pat Summerall. Can't leave him out. Football will never ever be the same. Please John, I pray that you change your mind later on in the season. I know you Love your Family, But we love you too!! We are Football Family!!! God Bless.
good announcer but over rated. whip! bam!boom! welcome collinsworth!
Very glad I don't have to hear him announce any more games
This happened before Madden acquired a bus of his own. I learned that he never flew and when he had to travel he took the train.I decided to go to Wash.D.C. on the train to see the Smithsonian. I had made my reservation so that I could get the least expensive compartment. Well I got it. It was so small that if I had to use the toilet, while in bed ,I had to get up,fold my bed up then fold up a small stool before I could use the facilities. Being shorter and smaller in girth than Madden I wondered how he with his somewhat greater heigth and girth could possibly make due with such a small room. I found out. The next morning after breakfast I found him sitting in the observation car smoking a cigar. So I put the question to him and he chuckled and replied that he had made the very same mistake his first time traveling via train and that he simply asked the porter for an upgrade. I had so many questions to ask him,but I respected him so much that I just thanked him and went on my way. Gary Parker
My favorite memory of him as sportscaster is drawing plays on the screen!
Good luck to ya Big John, We'll miss you dearly!!
This guy simply pulled you into the game more. His deep enthusiasm rubbed off on everyone who watched and listened to him. He made a fun game even more fun. All the best to you John, and thanks for getting our family so hooked on football!
As a season ticket holder in the Raiders glory days, the team and John were the best. As color commentator he WAS IS the BEST. And I think Chris will do a good job, he's very knowledgeable and professional...BUT he'll never draw diagrams like John.
Loved watching him on the sidelines which was topped only by his sportscasting...simply the best. I wish him the very best in his retirement...however he will be truly be missed.
John was the standard by which others were compared. The last few years however he was slipping never wanting to offend. It is time and he recognized it.
CC will do a find job. I have found over the years that Chris is very knowledgeable not just with the X's and O's but with the intangibles of the game.
A sad day for the greatest game on Earth! Madden / NFL will never be the same...love him or not, like Cossell, we all grew up with Madden too. I will miss him for his enthusiastic knowledge of the game, it spurred my passion for it. The insight that he passed on and his very presence in the game will forever leave a major mark.
Have a great retirement.....you will be missed terribly.
good man fun, but ,Last few years was not watching the same game I was.

Sumerall and Madden always meant it was THE BIG GAME. Michaels later never diminished the impact.
