The borders should have been SHUT long ago. And the Illegals should NOT get the vaccine be4 American Citizens. I am outraged!!!
I am scared!!
What is it about everyone that's so concerned? Did you not know that you can double the effectiveness of your immune system by avoiding white sugar and other refined carbohydrates? That you could dramatically enhance your immune system by regular exposure to sunshine? To high doses of vitamin C?
Were you not aware that fluoride weakens the immune system () or that insufficient intake of fruits and vegetables also weakens the immune system? That fried foods, junk food, soda, foods with pesticides and artificial flavors and colors might also harm your health?
I'm tired of the ignorant fatalists who--despite the thousands of articles and books on the subject of health enhancement, seem not to have heard that your health--virtually ALL of your health, is in YOUR hands. There's a reason I have not had to see a doctor for a health issue in over 35 years. I certainly haven't gotten ANY vaccinations (neither has my daughter) and that aint gonna change anytime soon.
So please folks, stop the whining and crying. If you're not healthy, turn off your television, turn on your juicer and "get with the program"--that is the program of caring for your health so that "someone else" (that would be the government) doesn't have to. And if you think they know how to "take care of your health", you've not been paying attention.
Tom, Nutritionist
If you are scared then they have done their job.
Exactly. It's all fear-mongering over something that's not even as bad as the regular flu. Turn the TV off, do some research, and quit being such mindless drones!!
Google DR. JEFFREY TAUBENBERGER. Then Google Novatis swine Flu vaccine Smallpox 1975. Then Google April 22, 2009 Fort Dertick.
This entire pandemic was a creation.........NOT AN ACCIDENT. Just your average population control program.
Don't be afraid.............just Do NOT take the vaccine. 15% of those that take the vaccine will get sick and become carriers. It is just another drug company created pandemic.
I agree with Tom's answer-- people are constantly not taking care of themselves! They eat terrible food, drink, smoke, drive 80 miles an hour while talking & texting on cell phones!
I think any of these things can kill you sooner than the swine flu, people just don't want to hear that though, because that would mean changing their ways!
My husband and I were in the process of scheduling a Cruise to the Yucatan Peninsula, should I wait?
Please. Go to CNN and read about how the regular flu kills 40,000 people in the US alone every year. Go have fun, the media is going to kill the economy with these sensationalized stories and your money won't be worth as much in the future anyway.
Don't thousands of people die from the regular flu? What's special this time around?
Generally, people who die from influenza are older people or those who already have respiratory problems. They end up dying of pneumonia. But this time around, the people who died in Mexico are younger. They are apparently healthy people in their 20s, 30s and 40s. That's a big deal. When a virus seems to preferentially affect healthy people, it suggests its a new virus and is causing an overreaction of the immune response. That's what happened with bird flu as well.
Not to mention the ratio of infected people to deaths is way off. If the ratio in the normal flu was the same as this flu's outbreak then millions of people would be dying from the normal flu, yearly. Not just thousands.
Are any of you considering the produce you purchase which is imported? If you don't grow your own, you are buying moist produce picked by people who may not even have access to a flush toilet, let alone hot soapy water.
Be cautions about purchases. Better yet, purchase from a local farmers market from producers selling their own goods - not marketing commercial produce.
After you stock up GO HOME and STAY HOME for a couple of weeks and this thing will be over with. If we keep running around the globe this thing will drag on for months and more people will die as a result.
all those people flew down to mex
now with most people that vaca either they are picked up by friend/family or a taxi/limo at the airport and transport home right
what of those vehicles and the friend or fam memebr or the cab driver are they not at least possible carriers just a thought
Hope- what are you thinking? Here is the deal- #1 the flu is not surface borne but for a few minutes. #2 you are wrong about the dont buy except local- Not true- see rule#1. #3- Stay home? Well maybe...... if the bug is strong it will be around for awhile- longer than a few weeks- like years.
The problem here is the need for people to realize that we are all part of nature, not above it just subject to it. We need to quit trying to ease the human suffering and make everything wonderful for everyone. Thats not the way of nature, only the strong survive. We have made ourselves viralantly weak by watering down the Gene pool. How? Very simple- people who should have died of disease's that have been around for 1000's of years were innoculated by a vaccine that was incomplete and the disease went back to the source and modified itself- actually- the vaccine was strong enough that you didnt die, but the disease was allowed to mutate to something stronger to overcome the vaccinated. and this is why you have killer flu! Quit messing with nature- those who die - die- Natural order- unless you can completely erradicate the disease- which cant be done. Small pox is the perfect example of this. We quit innoculating in the late 80's for small pox and bing buttah bing in 2003 smallpox shows its head again- in the meantime it changed and is a different strain and there are millions out there who were never innoculated- because we erradicted it!
We are innoculating for chicken Pox and sure enough it has changed to a stronger version that doesn't have a vaccine. All of us who had chicken pox as kids dont have immunity anymore and yes people get sick and died of chicken pox- for thousands of years and the c-pox had been rendered fairly harmless for most people. We screwed ourselves for the sake of a few- this isnt the way nature works, it focuses on the majority- not minority.
Madam: you should wait. You don't know who is handling the food !
Travelers-Do NOT go to Mexico. MOST Cruise lines, tour operators will refund 100% of your money or let you reschedule without a penalty.
Call your Travel Agent.
Joanne
It's up to you, if you bringing along a child or an elderly passenger, maybe you should wait, since they would be the ones to worry about in this situation. Other than that, it's your choice.
The State Department has issued a travel warning that if it is not essential to go to Meixoc don't go. My husband has to travel there for work and they have even pulled that for now. The majority of the people we know that has gone to Mexico in the past few weeks have come back sick. There are many more cases of Swine Flu in this country than what is being reported and there are ten fold that down in Mexico. If you have the time off work and the means to spend 10-14 days in isolation when you get back, sure go. However check with your HR department as it could be grounds for termination if you don't follow a travel order and return ill and spread the disease to your colleagues. There are much nicer places to go than Cancun and probably not worth the hassle.
Not unless you like playing 'Russian Roulette'! Spin the wheel... 50/50 for a positive or negative test.
If this strain mutates it could still be a major death sentence for people who don't plan and prepare.
I would wait to do any traveling!!!
SeattjeJames--
Does that mean die choking and gasping with a smile on our face and a song in our heart? Let's husband all resources the health folk wants to knock this stuff out! The business of life is to stay living and help others do likewise.
Hi, I live on Cozumel - Yucatan Peninsula. There are no confirmed cases of swine flu in the entire state (Quintana Roo). We are fine here - government precautions are in place and schools/cinemas/museums/enclosed public places are closed until 6 May, but we do not need to wear masks, we are out and about, there is no problem here - not even close to us. Please do not abandon the tourism industry here. Thousands of people are losing their jobs due to the panic and the hotels being empty. Cruises should start again in a week or two. We aren't dropping dead on the street - only 16 deaths confirmed to be swine flu...pls don't believe the media frenzy...investigate yourself...36000 die every year in the Sates of the common flu...is everyone freaking out about that? The weather is beautiful down here...and even better...perhaps you'll get a whole beach to yourself!

karen,
what are you waiting for??? the poor people down in yucatan need your gringo dinero!!! forget about the H1N1 scare, throw caution to the wind! when you come back from mexico with a nice golden tan (...and hopefully nothing else) see how jealous all your palid neighbors going to be. oh, if you see the guy in the back handling your food with red watery eyes and a hacking cough just tell yourself he's got a real bad allergy...
Karen, go for it!
No need to live your life in fear. Why, you could decide to stay home and stilll get a flu!
I plan to make no personal changes in my life.
just another thing to worry about,............the economy, terrorists, corrupt government, now miss piggy's flu....what's next??.......
What bothers me more then this swine flu is the swine in control of these organizations, that either lie right to our face or are fed bullcrap information that has been filtered by all applicable special interest. Your life, rights and freedoms all have a price tag and un fortunately alot of them are being bought right now or already have been. enough!!!
Must be Obama's "CHANGE"....LOL.
Relax, have a Beer.....Wash your Hands!
You need to sanitize your hands a lot! Buy concertina wire. Wrap your property in it. Do not let refugees in. Use force to defend yourself if needed. Keep the refugees away from your food supply. It is your leverage over them. It is the only way to maintain control.
-Carpe diem
This could be good.
Say it wipes out 5-10 million in the U.S.
Think how many jobs would open up!
Our economy could finally grow again!
I cannot believe folks wandering around with nose and mouth covered whilst leaving their eyes exposed. Clear safety goggles would be necessary to prevent airborne particulates from entering the eyes.
Those masks are giving everyone a sense of security which is false.
"Miss Piggy's Flu" - a bit of humor, badly needed! good one! "Miss Piggy" is probably copyrighted though and may get you into trouble...
Well, I have 2 young children, and I am worried about the swine flu, but what can be done really? Wash your hands. stay out of public places, ect, ect..... but when it comes down to it, this is traveling very quickly, and the outbreak in Mexico was reported way to late, something should have been done sooner. And what if your kid starts hacking and running a fever, do you keep them home? Well if you do that in the state of Florida they will fail, the grade they are in if they miss more then 9 days (middle school). Then yes, the second wave will be more deadly, and more people will die. Why are the borders open still? And I must say something about the Flu in 1918, and all of the flu's before that, it is 2009, we wash our hands and take showers, well most of us, so we are a cleaner people in most of the cases, and medical science has GREATLY improved since 1918, they didn't even have any antibiotic's then, so we should be better off then they were back then. And the Black plague, in the 1600's was caused by flea's, I know that I have dogs and cats and they do carry fleas, advantage or not, but I am not worried about getting the Black Death, so maybe we all should just wash better and stay to ourselves! Good Luck to All!
shut up!!!
I have to comment here - I agree guys! Strong survive, weak genetics die- sorry fact of life! Yes it is a good day, lose your retirement, loose your bank account, loose your car, loose your job, loose your freedom, loose your life- respread the printed paper- Yahoo!
Gosh this is a great time to be alive- long live the would be first black king of america.
YOU WANTED CHANGE- WOW YOU GOT IT!!!!
you spelled lose wrong jack ass.
SeattleJames - seriously?
If you have a differing political opinion feel free to express it but can't you do it without being an ignorant racist? Those comments don't even belong in this conversation, let alone any civilized conversation!
I Agree with you all the way......
I agree with you
KOREA..... this is what's next.
Bleep it. I'm heading for the links-- call me when you get this straightened out
love the gallows humor, matt - it is my understanding that nature creates spreadable illnesses when nature is out of balance and supporting too many living things, and illness wipes out the physically weaker living things, strengthening the gene pool at the same time - only issue is, nature also produced a creature with enough brain power to develop a vaccine to protect the weaker ones.
Get over it.....Kawasaki is correct, wait till it mutates the second time, (within three weeks?)then be scared. It only has to find a host that already has a virus.....your better off catching the fisrt wave and developing some immunity to the strain. P.S. an airborne virus can be transmitted up to two days before the host recognizes the flu symptoms. The horse has already left the barn.
I admit to being very concerned about this - I have many good friends in the States and Canada, whom I regularly correspond with on e-mail and Facebook, and indeed in some cases by normal Air Mail - I have been meaning to get over and visit places like NYC and Montreal for ages - I mean these are good people, who mean a lot to me - but everytime I get to the point where I might have enough money saved to make the trip across the Atlantic, something happens to make me feel that North America is just too darned dangerous a place to risk visiting. Hey guys, come over to Britain - we may not be perfect, but we'll sure show you a good (and hopefully safe) welcome.
You better not open any mail from North America either, it might be dangerous...jackass.
America? You have to be kidding???????
#4 - Tony - thanks for the invitation, but maybe not now...ya' know?
Does that mean my going to Great Britian could make my teeth go bad? Seems pretty contagious over there ...
hey dingle from the island- You wont come here because you fear the flu bug, but its ok for me to fly over there with our flu bug on board- ok I get it, you would rather die at home than abroad! LOL!
SeattleJames -- you are repulsive. Go spread you hate, anger and negativity some where else! Some of us like to read about topics without having to deal with the kind of garbage that comes from people like you. Seriously, go find a political forum to vent on you loser.
Tony, sorry to break it to ya hon, but you've already got this flu bug in your own back garden. There are, what, about 5 confirmed cases, and many more sick just waiting for confirmation (at least according to Skynews).
Yea, don't come here, because we have dangerous outbreaks of viruses all the time. Next it will ebola or dengue fever. <insert rolling eyes smiley here>
dude.... leave the Americans to themselves, they dont want you there by the sounds of it... you wanna have a good time, drink real beer and smoke pot without spending 15 years in jail?? Canada is the place to come, it's just the flu.. have all you americans figured out why the world hates you yet????
Fortunately I live in a very rural area but still bought some surgical masks. I think they will be in short supply soon. If you read the history of the H1N1 Spanish Flu of 1918 there are a lot of parallels. Scary. 40 million deaths worldwide.
the medical technology is so superior to 1918, don't cha think? I think good, old fashioned, common sense is needed here. Wash your hands frequently, cough into your arm, stay clean and maybe even take a vitamin or two. "An ounce of prevention......" and all that.
I think there is a reason to worry, I don't discount that, I just think we are healthier today than back then (if you shower more than once a week, it could kill you mentality back then) and we are cleaner and more medically advanced.
Actually, there are zero parallels. The 1918 bug hardly killed any of the "typical" population segments(i.e. the very young and the very old) but almost exclusively killed those with the strongest immune systems. Mustiple studies indicate that this was because some component in the 1918 virus triggered a cytokine storm. In this, the immune system begins attacking the liver, lungs, heart, kidneys, etc. So far, this seems to be falling out like any seasonal flu outbreak, with the typical percentage of morbidity/mortality.
A historian's point about this swine flu and the 1918 swine flu: yes, the two are somewhat similar, especially when you realize that this swine flu is made up of three swine elements, two bird elements, and two human elements. One of the swine elements is from the 1918 version. The 1918 swine flu killed predominantly those between the ages of 15 and 50, which is abnormal. However, the flu didn't actually kill most of those people directly. What it did was to weaken their immune systems by causing them to fight much harder to fend it off, then they succumbed to pneumonia complications, because they had no strength left to fight the pneumonia.
New study- People from nursing homes that were alive during the 1918 outbreak have been tested and they have antibodies for this H1N1 flu...the age is somwhere around 75 and up have been exposed to this before. News flash- this IS similar to the Spanish flu outbreak...so yes, either take your chances that all will be fine, or prepare for the worst and be pleasantly surprised if it doens't happen. As far as medical advances, sorry, that is a laugh. And the fact that we ARE cleaner is also a problem, our immune systems are weaklings now in comparision. We think because we have Tamiflu that it'll save everyone? My daughter is an asthmatic and I'm not playing games with her life. If you want to live in La-La land, go ahead... we're getting her vaccinated.
From what i have read this has hit a strong start and believe it will be world wide in a month must get to the bottom of this in fining the host which is its starting point at this point cover your mouth and wash your hands if you feel you have anything close see a doctor and stay clear of everyone the flu stain travels fast still hoping they catch it before it hits high gear most i can do at this time is pray
No - the most you can do now is STAY HOME.
Our species seems bent on running around like a bunch of ants on its anthill.
If all but critical personell STAY HOME this thing would likely be over with in a couple of weeks.
A no-brainer to me. Again I say - STAY HOME. Plant a garden, clean your house, read to your kids, watch some good movies on DVD.
Hope - Good advice!
Oh yes Im sure my land lord would be fine with me not paying my rent for a few months, cause i didn't go to work in fear of getting the flu. haha what a joke.
Hope must be wealthy, retired or just a housewife. For many, missed work is a job lost...and in this economy, it could take a year or more to replace it. Most people don't have a year's worth of savings, and if they do, it probably took years to accumulate.
Personally I'm not immediately concerned, if your number's up it's your time. I am concerned looking at it globally. How do we know it hasn't been with us for awhile? If it's already here, isn't it already too late? Let the medical scientists do their job to keeping us safe.
This world is turning to crap like first the bird flu then economy crashes now we got the swine flu and ok yes its majority is in mexico but you cant contain it to one place look theres some cases in us and now in canada yes its not deadly in US or Canada but then more it gets passed onto people the stronger its going to get and the more it can resist treatment. I seriously beileve that government is behind a lot of this and does have a cure but its a way to control population. Let enough people die then say you mirculously found a cure adn start helping people. Then in a few months or a year a new "flu" will be created again and this will happen all over again
The Flu epidemic should be fought with all are resoruces, the last thing humanity needs is yet another issue, like average joe said, and it is kinda of scary, just like the tablian being 60 miles from nukes, humanity is in trouble. BIG TROUBLE. Watch out before you know it well have hostile aliens or mutant powers to deal with or worse. The rise of a new govenremnt faction, or a new sentient species, or a wurmhole, or a black hole in earth. Damn. We got problems, take this flu down, isolate it, protect everyone, kill it, and now!
Too late - it is here and out of the coup! no killing it now- it wins - we loose. Make a vaccine and we just morph it some more to something even more violent.
You need to close your ignorant mouth. You have nothing of value to say fatalist.
Dear God, I hope you're being sarcastic, Bearer. Your first sentence at least makes sense (though I don't agree completely)... but holy lord, a black hole in the Earth? What the crap?
Seriously, though, the flu's not a big problem. It's the same as all the other flus as far as I can tell.
If I hadn't just started a new job, I'd be vacationing in Mexico for a week at some point soon. Are you kidding? It'd be dirt cheap to go, it'd be super safe and I'd probably get the beachs all to myself :)
You don't know who I am... but I am in love with you. No, seriously, I am...
Its about time mabye its the end of the world....they been trying for this outbreak for 20 years. Now mabye they can shut up about it and move on to real news for a change.
Oh please...yet another senseless scare tactic. What happened, did the pharmacy bank books get a little low?
Use common sense and keep yourself clean. Gee, what a concept
James S. Robertson, Englands leading bioengineer of flu viruses for the vaccine industry, and avid promoter of U.S. Government funding for lucrative biodefense contracts, along with collaborators at the US Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC). These suspects helped Novavax, Inc., in Bethesda, Maryland, produce genetically-modified recombinants of the avian, swine, and Spanish flu viruses, H5N1 and H1N1, nearly identical to the unprecedented Mexican virus that is allegedly spreading to the United States at the time of this posting. The outbreak was precisely timed to promote the companys new research and huge vaccine stockpiling contracts.
- Dr. Leonard Horowitz
See his Youtube Mexican Flu Outreak 2009
Dunno he might have something as some others say this could only have been created in a lab as the swine flu component is from pigs on 3 different continents mixed with avian and human flu.
I wondered about that. Tamiflu is being touted as the thing to use for it. Guess we should buy stock in it.
It is all another sign of the times. We are living in Revelation!!!
The first horseman is death...
Irishman,
You are right on. Lab created, patented by Baxter Pharmaceuticals a year in advance of the outbreak only a few short miles from their lab in Mexico. Look into Baxter and their attempted release of H5N1 included in seasonal flu vaccines shipped to 17 countries last year. Got off with a slap on the wrist and a lucrative contract to produce the new H1N1 vaccine.
Be concerned that they (WHO & CDC) want to immunize with nasally inhaled version of the fast tracked vaccine. People who receive this will be contagious and could spread the virus for many days. With the currently used FluMist vaccine user's are considered contagious for 21 days. Not sure about H1N1 but definitely something to consider.
We all just need to deal with it, life is ever changing.
Another case of the media selling sensationalism. We need more facts!!!! Where in Mexico have these cases turned up? How old were the victims who died and what was there health like prior to infection. This is the information we need to decide how worried we should be, not another article without any real substance!!!!
This U.S. joke, oops, I mean government just doesn't care about the AMERICAN people!!
This government LETS ANYONE AND EVERYONE into this country.
WHAT, does the government want to THIN our population down???
The BORDERS should be CLOSED!!!!!
Anyone with a brain and any knowledge of how the economy functions knows that it is ridiculous to think we could ever "close the borders". México is one of our bigger trading partners. Stopping the flow of goods over that border would depress our own economy. Ditto the Canadian border.
Big money taking care of BIGGER money!!! aren't politics great.
Having lived in Albuquerque, I have to say how many of the F*&^ing illegals aren't reporting symptoms because they don't want the trouble? Don't give me the BS line about not making much difference, try living in the southern border states before you decide illegal immigration isn't much of an issue!
You're right. It was silly of us to let vacationing students back into the country. We should never do that again.
Have you actually thought about what you just said? Despite the fact that there have only been 20 mild cases so far, the government has already started gathering vaccine stockpiles just in case. I wouldn't call that not caring about the American people.
Well I am concerned. And oh yes we all see Home Land Security is on their toes locking down the boarder until the threat is over, how many will have to die or become ill before they do close the boarder. If the epidemic came from Canada you could bet the northern boarder would be locked down for months! And china is our biggest trading partner, we ONLY IMPORT OIL FROM MEXICO, and illegal aliens!
Many illegals are employed in food service (sandwich shops, restaurants, etc.) in California. Probably a good idea to cook at home for a while to avoid food prepared by someone who is sick and NOT staying at home.
Don't forget the drugs half of us use. This flu is not deadly enough to worry about. They are dieing in mexico because of their poor diets, and water quality. Now would be a good time to step up deportation.
WHAT, does the government want to THIN our population down???
That's EXACTLY what they want.. Except it's not our government.. It's only certain members of our government and heads of major banks, and other countries... THey want to reduce the population. How do you think Bird Flu, Human Flu, and Swine flu all get mixed into one super-flu? If you think it's natural, you're living in a bubble.
This U.S. joke, oops, I mean government just doesn't care about the AMERICAN people!!
This government LETS ANYONE AND EVERYONE into this country.
WHAT, does the government want to THIN our population down???
The BORDERS should be CLOSED!!!!!
You're right! We should kick you out and close the borders. The US government should start thinning out the herd and begin with people like you
How is closing the border going to help? How is it going to stop people from entering the country illegally? LOL The fence makes people feel a little safer but I doubt it stops folks with money from entering if they want to imo.
This is not the first time that there was an outbreak of some infectious disease. Remember HIV/AIDS? The difference is this time the govt seem to be on top of it instead of believing it is God punishing folks who eat pork. LOL
It's time to stop worrying about offending people. Seal the f*@#ing borders already! Other countries are doing a better job screening. We don't do that here because we want to be politically correct. Please... hundreds of thousands cross our borders daily, illegally or not. If 1% of those are infected, that is enough to infect 10 fold. I am tired of people crying racism. It's about us protecting our kids. It will not solve the problem, but at least it will make it easier for us to control the outbreak. Work on the infected we now have, instead of worrying about more people coming in - carrying this strain.
So...are you Native American? Where did your ancestors come from? Oh, and for all you illiterate rednecks out there, there is no 'a' in BORDER. It is spelled BORDER, not BOARDER. Funny, that a Mexican kid for whom English is a second language knows this, yet you red-blooded (and necked) Americans do not.
I agree..I think that our borders should be closed. At least until this is stopped and so that it will possibly help stop the spread. I worry about my 5 year old son when I write this. He has severe allergies and asthma, to the point we have already underwent several surgeries. If he was to catch this "Swine FLU" I know that it would be devistating to him and if closing our damn borders to save our own is our best bet. CLOSE THE DAMN THINGS...i dont care if its from Mexico or China... CLOSE EM'.
awesome!
Avgjoe-106297, you must not have any children. Or if you do, you must not be worried about them catching the strain. You just proved my point - about how some people make this a racial issue. It's about mitigation. We need an easier way to control proliferation of this virus. Please... What do my ancestors have to do with controlling the amount of possible carriers from coming in? My ancestors are deceased. This is about my children.
I can't believe people are so ignorant as to say that we should close the borders. Obviously the virus is more advanced than your brilliant plan to just stop letting people in. Apparently, this virus may be a descendant of the notorious Spanish Influenza of 1918; viruses go under changes every year, but our antibodies are equipped to fight the viruses off, eventually. Every decade or so, though, the viruses get super pissy and decide to make a major shift that our bodies are not prepared for and we have this wonderful crisis.
The government started the "hybrid" flu to work on their pandemic techniques. The U.S. made it through SARS, we can make it through this. I agree that the second wave is the deadly one.
What I am concerned about are the archeologists digging around. They could dig up some viruses and bugs that have not been seen in hundreds of years. Or the 1918 flu.
From the Biblical view, this rings of the tribulation from the book of Revelations.
Good hygeine practices will go a long way in prevention.
tu chez adverage joe! Just another thing to worry about. God help us all!!!
i know and im pregnate and have to worry about this viris
You don't look pregnant to me.....
I would be more worried about your spelling.
No the government let any one? My husband of two year still can't get here and we have payed a great deal of money
You could go join him. You don't seem to speak English very well -- how do you become a citizen?
This is about swine flu, not picking on other posters' grammar.
It’s about the flue and MEXICO, CLOSE THE BOARDERS AND DEPORT THE ILLEGAL ALIENS IMMEDIATELY
This is all so ridiculous since a lot of cases are being reported in students who went to Mexico for Spring break. There is also a US couple where the husband traveled to Mexico. I guess we should just stop allowing our own citizens to fly back home. The flu is already here and it has been here for weeks. It sounds like it doesn't care where you come from or if you are here illegaly. Everytime there is an illness, the economy is bad or some other thing happens, it's the illegal aliens who are to blame...will we ever learn? Maybe if it were the British flu we would be more understanding. I do love that the people who are complaining about the illegal imigrants can't spell to save their lives.
I agree!
You are part of the problem. Why don't you go there.
get a grip. you are the one - and others of your ilk - who are polluting our gene pool. this could've started anywhere, you arse.
get a grip. it is people like you - and those of your ilk - who are polluting our gene pool. have some compassion, you arse. this flu could have started anywhere and landed in mexico.
Seriously - you all need to get over yourselves - this is not about who is from where, or a God of some description raining a divine punishment down on sinners. It is just a natural occurence.
For those of you who want the borders sealed and everyone person from Mexico sent back - have fun picking your own fruit and vegetables, have fun doing all the menial jobs that I am sure you think you are too good for.
Sophie 472322 wrote: "I do love that the people who are complaining about the illegal imigrants can't spell to save their lives."
Since you brought it up, it's "immigrants" not "imigrants"
Since you brought it up, islanderOC, it is NOT "it's" because "it's" attributes to ownership. It should have been "its".

"its" is a possessive form of "it", which attributes to ownership
I used "it's", which is a contraction of "it is", hence " it is immigrants, not imigrants". I think you may have mixed it up...
Bush-whacked, lay off the pipe bro. If you read all my posts, I am FOR securing the border. I was defending those that are for border shutdown. Read the post again before you start your rant. Well, maybe you should sober up first. Who's the idiot now? I think you're the one who needs to F.O.!
Bush-whacked, no worries. I feel the same way about that situation. I see it first hand here in California.
jorobken- the argument you use is so dumb- what happens when enough of them Pickers decide it is time to have a peaceful little march down your main street to demand their civil rights as non citizen - citizens? Who the hell picked the garden before the low cost mexican? Hmmmm thats right low cost high scool kids, oh before them? Well that would have to be the low cost vagrant, oh earlier? yeah thats right wasnt it women and children-- yeah the american textile industry- oh crap that goes way back oh yeah and before that it was the low cost kids and Irish and before that it was oh yeah- werent they black??
I dont think you want me to keep going- get off your little pony and get smart- low cost labor pools is the reason we have the problem and it has been the same arguement since before the civil war- same story
Well said Seattle
We Irish used to blame the English for 800 yrs. of our woes and before that the Normans , the Vikings and where does that go except Cain and Abel are alive and well in this world that has forsaken God.
the world changes every day and we will just have to live with it and do our best to live life to the fulliest
It is easy to say well if I die I die! You obviously don't have concern for your own children and grandchildren.
I agree i am not worried for myself but for my children and for the ones saying when its time its time must not have people they love. And Oh it is a fact that the swine flu came from mexico and now the first death of the US was a child that just came back from mexico from the brownsville border and I live about 75 miles from there and know that everyone from brownsville is from mexico (meaning all immigrants). So close them down, not permanentally, but until they can get this under control. And i am speaking as a woman married to a bi-racial man who is part mexican.
I guess my concern with all of this "hate on the mexicans/send them back" talk is that I am a Chicana - American of Mexican descent. My family has been in North Texas at least 5 generations. My English has a non-regional accent. My Spanish is atrocious. Unlike my brothers, my particular mix of genes looks more middle eastern than latin. So, after 9-11, after several people of Middle Eastern and South Asian descent were beat up on and off campus, my peers and teachers wouldn't allow me to walk anywhere by myself. I worry for my brothers. That a panic induced spike in latent racism will make it dangerous for them walk around safely. Some bubba worried about the sniffles will decide if they don't want to go back on their own then maybe a baseball bat to the head will change their minds. I wish people would just calm down and take some common sense precautions.
ladyb #17 - At last a calm voice of reason! Thank you for your common sense! GG Ruthy J
I'm not concerned about getting the swine flu. About two months ago I was eexposed to flu at work. And about 4 adults and 5 children came down with the swine flu and I was one of the lucky ones that did not get sick. I followed the universal precautions which are to wash your hands with soap and warm water all the time . I also wore a mask. If you follow universal precautions you are fine and not going to get infected.
What I wonder is if, despite it being the same flu, that maybe the one in Mexico is a different generation or, perhaps, those that got very sick/died already had it once. Maybe this flu does something to one's system that weakens it against it...?
the problem there was that they were not properly treated or diagnosed, so they went about their business and continued to work and travel, and once they realized it was the swine flu hundreds of people were turned away and were refused treatment.
I am very worried about the possible of a pandemic. My husband is immune compromised, oxygen dependant with COPD. If he would contract swine flu, he would not recover. I had swine flu in 1976 and although I am a normal, healthy adult there were times in that 10 day period of time that I thought I would die, the next minute I was afraid I wouldn't. It was horrible. Please, please take all the precautions you can.
I cannot take flu vaccine because it's based on chicken eggs, whcih I am allergic to. As a reult, if there is flu I get it. You can't fight anything but the fever. I learned to get through it by drinking tons of ice water (sometimes melted ice around my scotch) plenty of good old aspirin and oddly enough, smoke tons of cigarettes.
bigpoolgirl, I had it to in 76 too and felt as sick as you did for 2 weeks. it was terrible after I had the vaccine. No one had been exposed as it was early October when they made us healthcare workers have it. 3 days later boom! Felt like I was gonna die and it scared me to death. Was ordered by all the docs I have consulted since 1976 to never ever have any flu vaccine. Same for my 18 yr. old son. So we have to take our chances. I dearly hope your husband and you will be alright, Have you decided if your going to get the vaccine?
