He is the American fool, weaking the position of all Americans by apologizing without understanding the whole picture.

That's the consequence of 8 years of the Bush/Cheney/Rove dictatorship, where money was thrown at the rich, and a pointless and expensive war was waged against a country which had nothing to do with 9/11. Everything else was left to go to hell. Checks and balances (regulations) were removed from greedy financial and corporate interests, and freedoms that Americans had always experienced were suddenly restricted. Yes, we may have to pay more in the short term, but that's the consequences of the country being run for eight years by power hungry morons.

You would be referring to the Democratic congress, I presume since they were the majority, unfortuately for way to many of the last years of the previous Presidency. I am very willing to give Bush the blame he deserves, but the spending of the past 100days defies constitutional parameters completely. How long would you or your children have to live to pay off a similar debt in a personal comparison??? How about 1,000 years!!!

The people in power now are responding to what has been going on in the last 8 years. Who was in power when this war was started and took money from the social security fund to support it? Who was the one in charge when our economy started going down hill so badly and did nothing to stop it. Who was in charge when this country went into a me, me, me ideology of corporations and people thinking of only themselves. No man or country is an island and what one does, affect the rest. If this country was not in such bad shape when the change of power came to be, there would not have been a need to do ANY of this. Hopefully we will have a better balance of power and more cooperation among elected official of all parties to think OF THE PEOPLE and not only themselves.

The first answer should not lump foreign travel w/ health care reform. Whomever you are who wrote this poll, pray that you never have to find out how comprehensive your health insurance coverage is, because dealing with the insurance companies when your 6-yr-old daughter has been diagnosed with brain cancer is a freaking nightmare. Sure, they'll ok the first part of the stem-cell treatment she needs to recover, but not parts two and three. Lucky for you you've got an extra $40k just laying around.....I'd feel a lot better if he acknowledged that those 'at the bottom' are largely there because they have made poor life choices, could not delay gratification and thought education wasn't cool enough for them. We ants are sick and tired of carrying for the grasshoppers. There's a big difference between a safety net and a hammock....

Golfermom, on what do you base your assessment of those "at the bottom"? To conclude that they are there "largely" b/c of "poor life choices" sounds judgmental and elitist.

As a highly-educated, well-paid, single professional (w/ no children) who is in excellent health, I could take issue with carrying the burden of increased health care costs because of your family's health expenses... but I'm not that callous.

Republican/conservative criticism of Obama is ridiculous. They had 8 years of Bush, the first 6 of which they control Congress. What do they have to show for their efforts? Nothing. They are a party of ideological extremist that excludes minorities, women, both coasts, and non-Christians. Exactly who are they fighting for?

Of course he is doing too much. It is critical for him and his team to cram as much through as possible before the American public wakes up to his plans to turn this into a European style Social Democracy - socialist state by normal descriptions. There is no time to waste if he is to successfully decive us long enough to accomplish all he wants.

Of course he is doing too much. It is critical for him and his team to cram as much through as possible before the American public wakes up to his plans to turn this into a European style Social Democracy - socialist state by normal descriptions. There is no time to waste if he is to successfully decive us long enough to accomplish all he wants.

Hey palinthejoke... he couldn't even speak and think at the same time... for example:

"Throughout our history, the words of the Declaration have inspired immigrants from around the world to set sail to our shores. These immigrants have helped transform 13 small colonies into a great and growing nation of more than 300 people." --George W. Bush, Charlottesville, Va., July 4, 2008

                                      or...

"I heard somebody say, 'Where's (Nelson) Mandela?' Well, Mandela's dead. Because Saddam killed all the Mandelas." --George W. Bush, on the former South African president, who is still very much alive, Washington, D.C., Sept. 20, 2007

                                      and my favorite...

"Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we." --George W. Bush, Washington, D.C., Aug. 5, 2004

I hate to think what the George W. Bush Presidential Library is gonna look like. Probably full of books which only have pictures... and comic books, since he seems to fancy himself as some kind of superman.

For those who supported our retarded ex-pres, it's probably very intimidating to now have a prez who can construct a coherent sentence and do more than one thing at a time. I understand: if I was a dummy, that would intimidate me too.

What's funny is how all these anti-government hypocrites have their hands out when they lose their jobs and their 401Ks are in the toilet (or their bank is going bankrupt...). Same thing I saw in Florida a/b people complaining a/b their taxes but standing in line for free ice and water from the govt one day after a hurricane knocked out power. Take care of your own lives, indeed.

Obama has to do it all at once people. Obama does not have time really because one thing pops up after another. It amazes me that some people think that he can't do all of the things that he has to do. It will be the same people crying and complaining that he can't do it all. That is all it is. Obama is like a manager of a company or a sport team.

Exactly!!! People talk about wanting a proactive president who is willing to tackle tough issues and get things done. Then when we get one, they say he's doing too much??? Give me a break. Given our choices, I couldn't be happier with how our president is handling things, and can't imagine having anyone else in his position. Having said that, if McCain had won, I wouldn't be happy about it, but would support him in efforts to turn things around. There's no way to win with some people. Whether or not you voted for Obama, by not supporting him, you Obama-haters are part of the problem, and in my opinion are preventing our nation from making the progress we so desperately need. A little support for our Commander-in-Chief woulf be nice.

Isn't it funny how these same hacks were labeling people "unpatriotic" for criticizing Bush's Iraq War? (Remember the stupid "Freedom Fries" and attacks on the Dixie Chicks and Linda Rondstadt?) I'm dropping out.
This man is going to bankrupt us all. We have to have something to restart, when we get to the bottom.
Those of you who have any money left, buy gold with the idea, that you will keep it two years. No profit in it, to spesak of, but no loss, either
Probably a good idea to keep it where the government, can't get at it , without taking you to court.
We will see Mr Obama, raing taxes very quickly on many people, who, weren't expecting it.
Business should expect him to do, unexpected things, don't assume "he won't do that", he is about to take us, where we have never been before and he will do things, that have never been done to us, before.
It will be up to us to ressurect the country, when people finally understand, that we can't afford him.

Congrats Jerry for including yourself into the "haves" that can afford to whine over a 4% increase (actually the resumption of the 39% that the Bush cabal cut). If you make a bit more than $250K, the extra $10K that you would have to start paying once Bush's tax cut is not extended should be chump change for you. Or is it that you are the chump for being a Repug wannabe that earns $30K in reality and millions in your mind because you've been duped by the Repug bile? If you are in the upper bracket, good job in admitting that you would looking for ways to hide your money. That shows what kind of patriot you are in reality.

Personally, I am rooting for our intelligent president to use his multi-tasking skills that will be necessary to clean up the mess of the most corrupt and inept administration of our nation's history. My personal favorite would be a series of meticulous bills that would inspire international treaties that would shed light and accountability on all you rich pukes that have been hiding your cash in those offshore banks. The world is tired of the blatant abuse of secret accounts that also hide the cash of drug and arms dealers.

Btw, Jer, it is only in your dreams that the Repugs would resurrect anything. They have scrwd the pooch, dude. Once the investigations reveal how many laws were actually broken by the cabal and its co-conspirators, the Republicans will need a name change. I suggest a name that came up in American History if you paid attention. It's the "Know Nothing Party" and perfectly explains your party platform. An image of "W" would be its logo to rally party faithfuls to the troth. Sooey!!

It would be nice if I could just concentrate on one thing in my daily life, but I can't. I have lots of things going on. and so does the Pres of the US. With all the resources Obama has at his disposal in terms of brilliant minds and people willing to find the best solutions to our very large problems, I'm glad to see he's relying on that brilliance for the best ideas and recommendations. And, he's got so many irons in the fire, none of the naysayers can focus on just one thing and blow it out of proportion for very long...all they can go on about is socialism. Why don't all you folks give the man a chance? I don't like the deficits but how do we make a fundamental change that's needed without investing in it? If we listened to some of the folks on this blog, we would be stuck in place and we can't do that. It's all of our livelihoods at stake as well as the position of the US in the world. I'm glad we have different ideas now...the old ones from the Bush years didn't seem to be doing any good for us...I'm open to giving the man a chance...so far I like what I hear, but I want to see him deliver.

I think his intentions are clear... bankrupt the country, devalue the dollar, create hyper-inflation and lead the way for China (a communist dictatorship) to rule the world. Why don't people see this?

You're right about one thing, palinthejoke. He's not leading the way for China at all. He's leading the way for ISLAM to rule the world. He's been taking lessons from Bill Ayers and President Chavez. I'm glad he wasn't blamed for anything that happened when he was 3 months old too. Wish it worked that way for the rest of the world.

If stealing tax money and bankrupting the nation is the CHANGE you voted for you now have it, America is done for, the grand experiment failed. the masses are far to stupid to hold on to the republic and Ben Franklin's warning has come to pass.

Time for a new revolution, grab your guns men. (start by eliminating the stupid this time out.)_

Wow. The mood swings evident in this series of opinions would be a psychiatrist's dream.

Relax everybody. Pres. Obama is neither the antichrist (whatever that is) or the answer to all our dreams - he is just a man. I think he is, if not brilliant, then extremely bright and has surrounded himself with other very bright people. This actually bodes well for our country.

I refuse to be ruled by paranoia. I refuse to be afraid.

Our countries problems are many and varied. Like problems experienced in any complex system, a change in one sub-system (read economy, foreign policy etc.) very often can have effects in seemingly unrelated areas (i.e. education, healthcare).

When confronted with a series of symptoms, a doctor can treat the symptoms or treat the patient as a whole. This called holistic (oddly enough) medicine. Our problems are so many, varied and serious that a holistic approach is warranted. First stabilize the economy. Then put the country back on a sure-footed international stance and then deal with education and healthcare. All of these things are interrelated and I think President Obama is doing a remarkable job of integrating all of them.

Very well put, MLDC40. You stated my moderate viewpoint perfectly. I have been an Obama fan at a distance--in part b/c of my job in local govt that would make political fanatacism imprudent, and in part b/c of my belief that no politician is going to solve all our problems. I am impressed w/ his brains and background and the fact that he understands and respects the rule of law and ideals of this country. I do not, however, choose to declare him Our Savior, but one who has come "at such a time as this" to hopefully rally this country together to fix the mess we allowed the last douchebag to make of this place.

Bottom line: The answer is us, not him, and I think he realizes that. That's why he got (and continues to get) my support.
