They were only going to do it to stoke the fires to have a circus hearing on the previous administration.

LMarcT you got it wrong, we all lost, you and the rest of the socialist trash just don't see it. Why don't you look into the many lives saved by causing minor discomfort to those who would have killed them. Take a close look at what they do to prisoners, they don't use a razor shape sword to behead in one shot. They carve with a knife, and I hold people like you responsible for the past ones and for those that will come.

Moving on does not mean to ignore what happened and make believe everything is OK.

Moving on does mean to demonstrate what our new policies will be and that should include holding those responsible to account. Our image in the world requires more than Obama speeches. Our image requires this demonstration of what we really are.

Ignore the rantings of reactionary throwbacks like Democratnomore. Sound and fury, signifying nothing. The bottom line is that Bush/Cheney did more to hurt the United States in eight years than so-called "liberals" have done in eighty. The election, and Obama's approval ratings, demonstrated just how out-of-touch the right-wing has become. All of the bellyaching about "socialism" just reeks of sour grapes.

All Obama had to do was read a book and tell the truth once and he'd already have done more than Bush did in two terms. Given the mess the Republicans left us, it's a miracle anyone could even make a start in cleaning things up. If Obama does occasionally slip into "old-style" politics, considering his superior intellect and grasp of the issues, it's likely there's a hefty dose of visionary pragmatism (missing these last eight years) involved in the decision.

To the pissers and moaners like Democratnomore,, who just can't seem to let the past bury the past, I offer these simple words: "You had your chance. You screwed the pooch. You lost big time. Life goes on. Get over yourselves."

First of all, I can voice my opinion that I think we all won. You can voice yours. I asked a question and I guess you answered it.

Secondly, Demo, we "social trash" currently make up the majority of American opinion. No, we're not "blind". No, we don't need to "wake up". We didn't even "drink the Koolaid"!

All we did was open our eyes to where we were heading, decided that wasn't even close to representing who we were, and found someone with some insite and intelligence that has a prayer of taking us where we need to be. The President just has the best PR of anyone in the world. His approval numbers may be high now (but most new presidents are) but take a look at the democratic congresses. I don't think it is possible to get any lower. The dems won by bashing bush for over 8 years (remember he was bashed before he ever took office) and never had a chance. The democrats won but we will all now lose. It is the ebb and flow of politics in America. Left/Right it doesn't matter, the middle control the electorate and as long as the dems can push their message by crushing consent the longer we will be in trouble.

If there was even the slightest possibility of one person being hurt or killed because these photos then they should NOT be released. Why should others be put in danger because some soldiers were stupid. That would be like someone in my city does a horrible crime and then the rest of the state wants to take it out on the rest of the people in the city that had nothing to do with it. Why has the world become so angry they want to blame everyone for everything. Crimes were committed and then action was taken to correct. Come on peoplemove on. I know you hate Bush but why make the rest of the military suffer for what he did. Although how you can blame him for actions of some soldiers is beyond me especially since the guilty parties have been tried and punished so let it go.

What cracks me up is Obama has been president for less than 6 months and everyone I hear mainly all republicans say that all our problems are his doing. Where were these retards when bush was in office for the last 8 years and created all the problems? Were they like a bunch of ostriches with their head buried in the sand and thinking about the three monkeys see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil? Or have they just repeated what all republicans have repeated since The only good republican left office do to a tragedy beyond his control and that being our 16th President Abraham Lincoln the only one to see the injustice of the things that went on while he was in office and the only man during that time with jewels big enough to do the right thing about it. But hey when you got rich fat lazy men and women getting richer off poor people’s back breaking hard work and when someone says hey their lazy rich people time to do the labor yourself and stop making the poor do your hard work and pay them nothing short of peanuts for everything they have done, while you and your family eat with silver spoons. Well hey their all you republicans time to start sharing the wealth and time for you to learn that every person breathing on this planet breaths the same air and puts his or her pants on the same way and none of you are any better than anyone else on this big blue beautiful planet....God bless us all for all we do that is righteous.

Timothy: I noted the non-capitalization of bush. That's how insignificant he was to me too.

While I'm at it: The photos should not be released simply as it was well put "it will inflame". Inflame worldly, stateside, everything and everyone. Look how inflamed these posts already are.

Repubs, that is pure BS blaming it on the liberals. You keep forgetting it wasn't the liberals that elected Obama. I DID right along with those of us realizing Obama is intelligent, well spoken, thinks things through, listens and does as necessary not as a Pres. on a chain doing tricks for, oh let's say "Cheney". Wonder who did that. HMM?

That being said, I don't think it's the "Liberals" at all who are raising hell. I think it is only those who have nothing to do but grouse about everything and everyone near them. I bet it's hell living with you. I'm pretty sure I know....My husband is just like that and it IS hell.

Transparency is one thing but publising MORE photos of abuses so that the public can see just how abused prisoners were is asinine. It is like cutting off your nose and spiting your face. Stupid.

The few shown before got ALL of us into a heap of hocky worldwide. It was an insult to a faith. AND a population and culture. Whether they agreed or didn't care was different. They were only taking up for themselves. Just like we do when we declare our own faith. Our faith is well known here in America. We are just finding out how others around the world feel about their own.

It was an insult to me that my America would behave in such a manner at all. I don't want to see them. I've seen enough. I'm also tired of the continuing diatribe of the media to keep this alive. Huffington Post made it loud and clear they intended to. I"m positive Fox is all over this.

We don't need to see or experience anymore backlash over BS like "some" seem tio be wanting and egging (?) on. Don't y'all get it?

Pres Obama was ordered by a Federal Court to release the photos. He decided to reargue the case before the court because the Bush Justice Department didn't use the correct law when they argured the case. If the court doesn't agree with the new argument they can still order their release and Obama can take it to the Supreme Court. Some one said he could just refuse to release them. Obama believes in the law unlike George Bush who thought he was above the law. There is enough evidance already released to convict Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld for crimes against humanity.

"Obama believes in the law unlike George Bush". Yeah, that's the reason he changed his mind. Please! He finally received briefings about the realities of war and it hit him in the face. All those campaign promises mean nothing now.

Also, please divulge all the "evidance" (it's really evidence) against Bush, Cheney and Rumsfield. I thinks it's just wishful thinking.

Rather, release of the photos and total transparency will demonstrate that we are changing course. Our troops are in harms way nontheless, and they are well aware of it. This is what 'war' is all about, my Comrades~

We can NOT selectively enforce tha laws of this great nation!!! - From illegal immigration, to local, national and international laws. Our only hope of regaining our crdibility as a nation is for this type of transparency~

Hey michael have you not noticed all the illegals in this country that are sucking our economy dry? I haven't seen the ACLU calling for all of them to be deported, even if their criminals or drug dealers. But the ACLU are the ones calling for the release of these pictures. Oh and by the way I don't think Bush was at the prison beating anyone. I think he probably had better things to do, like run a country. I kind of thought it was the other side that was not what you'd call torturing people but being a little harsher in like cutting peoples heads off! I don't know about you but I like our way better. You know sometimes it's best not to show your whole hand like in cards or in a war.

          To sadielady:

You said, "Oh and by the way I don't think Bush was at the prison beating anyone. I think he probably had better things to do, like run a country. "

George W. Bush RAN THIS COUNTRY INTO THE GROUND.

He took a Clinton surplus and turned it into a huge deficit, started an unnecessary war in Iraq, and let a mass murderer of Americans (Osama Bin Laden) get away with it while he deflected attention to Iraq. Why?

Oh, and see how Bush ran the country when Katrina hit.

Not only all of those things, but Bush singlehandedly pushed the Republican Party into near extinction.

Oh did you forget that Clinton was offered Osama on a silver platter but he didn't want him. He was to busy getting people to fall to their knees or play with a cigar. It's always so interesting how people like you forget about sept 11th. Bush made his decision on the information he was provided with and if I recall correctly most Dems voted to go to war also. Have you ever thought maybe the wmd's could have been moved to Syria or elsewhere. It's not like they didn't know every move we were going to make with all the embedded reporters.

As far as Katrina goes I guess you don't understand how the government is supposed to work. It's first your Local level then it's State and last it's Federal The government was set up that way for a reason. Why aren't you blaming that Mayor Negan Or the Governer Landry. They were the ones who dropped the ball. Also people were told to leave and ignored the warnings, I guess that's Bush's fault too.

You want to talk about deficit? Lets talk about deficit. Obama has outdone everyone in that catagorie. I'm talking all the deficits combined of all previous presidencies. We now have nearly no value to our dollar. It used to be that every country wanted us dollars. Let's see who's lining up now.

Sorry, but it is not the illegals who are sucking the country dry. Try looking at Wall Street. Mexican wetbacks did not cause this financial meltdown. That was done by deregulation, and an attempt to return to laissez-faire capitalism (laissez-faire is French for "the sleaziest guy wins").

I'd like to know why the ACLU is getting involved at all? These detainees, terrorists and mongrels are NOT AMERICANS and they have NO rights in this country, nevermind civil liberty. I think the ACLU has caused more problems then they are worth.

People cant blame Bush or Chaney for what these maggots did. How about putting the heat on the detainees and stop blaming the wrong people?
How about holding the ACLU responsible for "American" liberties, and not trying to put our "American" soldiers in any sort of jeopardy?

How about remembering this is OUR country, not the do nothing right ACLU's?

I don't believe releasing these photos at this time is a good idea.  It will only place our troops in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan in further danger.   However, I do think these photos are proof positive of the horrors invoked by the Bush Administration, and their lack of respect for our Constitution and the wishes of our Founding Fathers.  Torture is torture, no matter how you want to spin it!  Perhaps the photos could be release some time in the future (hopefully) when our troops are no longer in danger and engaged in these foreign countries.  In any event, they should be used as evidence to prosecute those responsble for such vile acts of humanity.  All people (human beings) deserve the right to fair treatment and a fair trial, and should be consider not guilty until proven otherwise.

russ-397784 - are you kidding me??? We aren't threatening their families for 24 hours of life. That's an idea you got from the other side! They did that to us! Think of their families. Of course if my family was being tortured I would be beside myself; however, the reason I would be beside myself is because it wouldn't be american troops doing it. If it was, then maybe I could feel good about the fact they wouldn't DIE!! Or have any limbs chopped off for sport while the torso dies. Or have their bellies filled with rice then with water to have their intestines explode. Do some blanking homework! I also see you contradict yourself... I just don't understand how anything we did in interrogations in trying to keep this nation safe, is horrific but it's ok to behead Daniel Pearlman and our soldiers. The beheading of Dan Pearlman and our soldiers is atrocious and certainly not OK, but that is no justification for the United States to lower itself down to the same level as the ones performing those horrific acts. We executed an Iraqi general by suffocating him to death in a sleeping bag. No trial - just some very aggressive interrogation that killed a uniformed soldier (exactly the kind Geneva Conventions should protect).

The reason that we were never attacked after 9/11 is simple.  Karl Rove didn't need another 9/11... he got what he wanted with the first attack... and that is unending war in Iraq.

You are truely not an American if you think these photos being released will not hurt our Troops. The media has no idea how many lives they have cost us and instead of blaming President Bush they should blame theirself. The Media just wants a story and they could careless who the hurt. These guys do what they need to do to stay alive and come home to their families. I guess they are also fighting for you not so smart dems and media personnel so you can have freedom of speech. Let the Troops do there jobs so you can have this wonderful country to live in.

I sure did. I learned that standing up for something you believe in is more important than pointing fingers, passing blame, and justifying your faults by bringing yourself down to someone else's level.

Why has there not been one single documented American POW since the opening days of the war (well one if you count Jessica Lynch). Because they have all been murdered, tortured, mutilated and murdered. So I really am not very interested in any alledged mistreatment.

We know that bad things happened. We've seen the original photos. We know that some higher ups from the Bush administration gave the green light for the mistreatment of prisoners. Releasing more photos will not change any of that. If doing so further endagengers our troops, then I don't see the benefit. Hold those responsible accountable for sure, but lets not increase the threat to our service people.

I agree but it will not happen, the Democrats do not accept negative press and will never accept responsibility for any wrong doing. Seems to me I recall Obama talking about bringing peace to this nation... releasing those photos would be counteracting that goal. So for those of you who say:

It's possible. But Obama has pledged a transparent government and should live up to that promise.
President Obama should release the photos and the Justice Department should prosecute those in the Bush Administration responsible for this

Yes, he should keep his word and all, but he will be contradicting himself right and left trying to expose and keep the peace all at the same time. Tough act, but I'll say this. I don't mind if there is some contradiction, that's inevitable, as long as it is in the best interest for all involved. He certainly doesn't have a right to put our troops at risk. I'm waiting for some kind of consistency... while I wait, I hope he doesn't tear down the whitehouse.

Prosecuting those in the Bush administration. Will you feel the same way when its the Obama administration for acting too harshly or rash and putting our nation at risk?

These Terrorist should be held to the standards and laws set forth in the Geneva Convention. Which states that any individual engaged in acts war while not wearing a proper uniform or dressed in a way that makes themselves not easily identify as a soldier. There is only one penalty listed for this violation and that is execution. So yes I think all this terrorist should be tried under the rules of the Geneva Convention.

I do favor an investigation on who approved the torture and the guilty should be prosecuted!!! Republican or Democrats! Why not just satisfy your voyeristic tendencies by downloading some S/M porn?

why don't we bring ALL the troops home first, and then you can hand-deliver the photos to them...

People should be supporting American Troops and believing they had one job in mind, to protect our country....which they have done for 8 years.
The way things are going with Obama & the ACLU ...nothing seems to matter but the rights of these criminals..

A "criminal" is defined as one who breaks the law. The abuse at Abu Graib is ILLEGAL under the Geneva Conventions and all existing international law. So who are the criminals...?

Yea, Putting leashes on them and underwear on their heads is just TERRIBLE!!!! When our "boys" get caught by them, they are DEAD. The Geneva Conventions was about prisoners of war, and the treatment of war combatents ( In uniform), but then again, the "Left" doesn't think that this country is at War.
