Unfortunately I need the internet for my job, so I'm not sure I could last more than a month without it. Sure would be nice though!

I usually go the weekend without dealing with e-mail; Ten days is a bit much though. I have to say it does factor when I am at work.

If we didn't need email, phones, etc for work, then I really would not mind not using those.

I'm an 'IT'. I work with the largest intranet in the world and spend 48 hours a week in front of a computer just for work.

Minus use for work, I could take it or leave it at home. I love Facebook, but I'm not addicted like so many.

I wish the poll had the ability to separate personal from professional. On a personal level I could go indefinitely without electronic communication. I grew up without the internet and sometimes resent the intrusion it makes on my family's lifestyle.

On the other hand, as a professional, I am a web developer, and thus require the Internet for my livelihood. As a result, I doubt I could go more than a couple of days without it.

As for cell phones, you can keep them!!

I could go a long time, since I almost never use my cell phone to text or otherwise, nor do I use Facebook or any of those social networking sites.

The only electronic communication I use to talk to friends in Instant Messaging, because my friends live very far away and it's the only free way to communicate with them.

I like cell phones much more than the beepers we used to carry. Those were annoying... trying to find a working payphone that wasn't disgusting....

I can go awhile without internet at home. But we don't have a home phone, just cell phones. I don't have to text, in fact I have it blocked on our "home" cell which is the only phone all three of my kids have to share...

I could only go so long without the internet. That is how I pay most of my bills.

I also drive a car that has a sense of humor ( i.e. likes to breakdown), so I have to have a cell phone at all times when driving. I never know when that beast wants to take a nap.

I also have to do some forms of research for my job online.

Now that's putting it in a positive way - "car that has a sense of humor" :)

That's one of the biggest reasons I broke down and got a cell myself. I was tired of hoping someone would be kind enough to call for me!

For my personal use I could go months w/o my cell or internet service; though I do use my computer to pay bills. But professionally; not long as I work at a technology giant and computers are a fact of life for us.

I find those who grew up without internet/cells/etc. tend to use it as a tool. Whether as a professional or personal for online bill paying, occasional social networking to find 'old' classmates, and informational searching, or a cell in the event something happens and you have to call AAA.

Today's teens, unfortunately, absorb it into a lifestyle that has those repercussions the article speaks of. Picture a whole generation that won't be able function unless it has an 'e' pretext.

I have an iMac & a G1. I IM, facebook, twitter, email, text and call - I can go a weekend without it easily, probably even a week or so, but not without reason.

I primarily read the news or catch up with or talk with friends online on the computer. The G1 is used as more of a cell phone, alarm, sometimes to check email or lookup pertanent information when needed, and as a music player, texting is infrequent - used to communicate, not to simply converse.

It would interesting if we knew the age of most of these "posters." I am a 50 year old mom...I do text quite a bit and use the internet, but I have not succumbed to Facebook, MySpace or the other SN sites. However, many of my friends (also in their 40's and 50's) have.

My kids on the otherhand, use all of the above.....but not in a ridiculous manner. We don't allow it in place of face-to-face communication with the fam. Overall, within reason, I like this New Age!!!!
