How much weight did you gain during pregnancy?

New guidelines are setting how much weight women should gain during pregnancy — not too much if women already are overweight or obese when they conceive.

I gained around 50-60 lbs pregnant w/ twins (never got that last weigh-in). They'll be 1 next week and I'm still 7 lbs heavier.

I gained right around sixty pounds--but I also gave birth to 7 & 8 lb. twins (who are now almost two) so was right around where I needed to be. I am now back below my pre-pregnancy weight. :)

I fell into the overweight category when I got pregnant.  I actually lost 5 lb during the first trimester, gained that back, had gained a total of 5 lb by the end of the second trimester, and gained a total of 35 lb for the whole pregnancy.  I gave birth to a 10lb 7oz baby, but left the hospital having lost only 2 lb (yay, water weight).  I dropped a total of 20 lb in the first two weeks, worked off another 7 by month 6, gained back 2 while healing from plantar facciiatis, and I've been trying to work off the remaining 10 lb since then.  My son's first birthday occurs in less than 1 month.

I took "the experts'" advice and lost 55 pounds prior to my first pregnancy. I gained it all back, plus 10 pounds, during my pregnancy. (Rebound!) I lost 35 pounds without trying after my baby was born 20 months ago. Now in my 2nd pregnancy, and I am gaining at a much slower rate... so I think that dieting prior to pregnancy can actually set you up to gain too much, too fast. I think moderation, healthy food choices and mild exercise are the way to go, to be safe for mom and baby.

I gained about 25 pounds with the first kid, gained none with the second, and actually lost a few pounds for the third. I gained so much the first time around because I went from being extremely active to being well, being extremely inactive. And the weight I lost from the third was because of other health issues I was having.

My problem now is that no matter how much I excercise and how healthy I eat I still can't seem to lose those last 20 pounds. Nothing touches it. I suppose going to an actual gym would help but I don't really have much time for it; maybe when my kids are older. Its a shame though that plain old excersize and healthy eating isn't enough.

I was slender before pregnancy, 5ft 7in, 120 lb; gained about 20 lbs, had an 8.5 lb baby at 7.5 mos.. I've been slender since childhood except for my 11.5 lb birth weight I don't think it's genetic as I come from a generally overweight family. I eat what I want and it's not what I eat, it's what I don't eat. Just my opinion.

I agree with brokenrecord. I'm with you sister! I have 3 kids and I have basically lost with the first 2 but can't seem to get the 20 lbs. I gained with this last baby off. I don't have the money to pay to go to the gym currently so the only option I have right now is to walk. It helps but I had baby 3 in September and I would be happy if I could just lose 5 lbs. every 6 months and slowly take it off so that I could keep it off for good. I know that it will take a while but I'm hanging in there and trying not to get too discouraged that I will be able to go to the gym again. I can't wait for the day I can say that I'm in the 130's again and healthy.

Gained same w/my second, have yet to lose the weight despite breastfeeding, excersice, and calorie count. Blame it on emergency C-Section. No muscle tone anymore despite sit ups/walking/biking.

I'm 5'2". When I got pregnant with my oldest, I weighed 123 and gained 19 lbs. I lost all the pregnancy weight plus another 10 lbs by the time she was 6 months (I did not breastfeed her). When I got pregnant with my 2nd & 3rd, I weighed around 112-113. I gained 29 & 31. The first 20 of that came off quickly, but I couldn't lose the last 10 until I stopped nursing.

It's a myth that breastfeeding makes the weight come off faster.

I gained ALOT both pregnancies, nearly 40 pounds. But BY BREASTFEEDING lost it all PLUS NEARLY 20 POUNDS MORE than I was pre-pregnancy both times. If you breastfeed past 6 months you will continue to lose weight. I was down to 113 (and I'm 5ft. 7in.) by time my second son was a year and a half, and I ate everything. I've always been thin, but I haven't been that skinny since high school. He's now 2 and a half and I weigh 123.

Every woman I know who has done extended breastfeeding (past 6 months) has lost all of their pregnancy weight and more. That, and their babies are rarely sick. My oldest is ten and even when my husband and I get bad colds, he rarely catches them. When the 2 and a half year old occasionally gets sick, it rarely lasts for more than one or two days. Pediatricians say that they know when they see a very thin chart that the baby has been breastfed.

I was so huge by week 38 that I was in despair, craving nothing else but to hold my little girl in my arms. I though the 30+ pregnancy pounds were going to come off quickly. I gave birth to a healthy 7lbs 9oz baby girl, breastfed her, and began exercising regularly at 6 weeks (60-90 minutes every day, while my husband took care of our daughter). By 4 months I was still 10lbs heavier than my pre-pregnancy weight, and it took another 2 months to easily fit into all my pre-pregnancy clothes. Now, 8 months after giving birth, I am finally back even a little below my 21BMI, and in much better shape than even before pregnancy, except for the tiny 'flab' that, honestly, I am proud of. It took A LOT of hard work to have a healthy pregnancy, good birth, and full recovery. I can't believe so many people are having such an easy time losing their pregnancy weight. I didn't. And I sympathize with everyone out there who is still battling their scales that seem to be stuck on the same number. But at the end of those days when I was trying to lose that extra weight, I would look at the 'tire' around my waist, or at my puffy lower body and arms, and at other extra 'luggage', and then I would look at my precious daughter. It was worth it, every bit of it.

I am 5ft tall and weighed 135lbs when I conceived both of my girls. On the day of delivery I weighed 137lbs both times. Post delivery I weighed 117lbs. Both of my girls went to term, my oldest weighed 5lbs 15 1/4oz, my youngest weighed 6lbs 8 1/2oz. Both girls are happy healthy thriving children. the oldest is now 14 years old and the youngest is 8. I was gestationaly diabetic both times, but it was controlled with diet. Neither girl has ever shown signs of diabeties. Strangely, the doctors never said anything to me about my lack of weight gain. Unfortunately, the weight has returned plus some. I now weigh 147lbs and am diabetic. I controll it with diet and pills, and am working on losing weight and trying to get off the pills.

I gained 60lbs with my the 1st! I would gain weight even on days that I skipped eating. I felt like an enormous sponge. I had a 9lb baby, lost 20lbs at delivery and by breast feeding for 16mos. ( exclusively for 6 mos) ALL my extra weight came off w/o ever dieting within about 1yr. The 2nd. pregnancy also I gained 50-55lbs. and was chided by an arrogant ass of a doctor that I was going to be a big fat slob for my husband. My husband was also an unsupportive ass. I never had weight problems except when I was pregnant. Anyhow, I had another almost 9lb baby, lost 16-18lbs at birth, and breastfed for 13mos. I lost every single pound of it within about a year w/o ever dieting. I regained my figure and good looks and dumped the doctor and the husband!

Three months later I am 103 pounds but I still have saggy skin. To this date, I am questioning why I had a big baby.
