He can't do much by himself. Congress is the key on the federal level. More time is needed for public opinion to ferment.

Yes. The president has failed to keep his word on giving the gay community more rights.

I thinks all supporters of equal rights should put away their wallets until we get the "change" we were promised!!

It takes Congress to actually make and change the Law. The President can only do so much through executive decision.

He has so much to deal with right now. How can they blame him for not focusing on the issue? Its not more important than the economy.

He's not GOD! He's doing the best he can with regards to the overwhelming anti-gay crowd in the Senate. He WILL get there!

its not as though he is against gay rights. he is clearly supportive but has not been able to get to it yet

What a shame.  Who else do you think would have done as much?  Maybe you don't realize how much this President is dealing with and has obligations to the entire country, not just LGBT.  How selfish!  Why don't everyone with issues to bring to the table just start a band wagon.  So you only voted for him or donated to him because of your cause and not because he was the best person for the job?

It's a shame that some folks are not educated about current affairs. Repealing DOMA is not a "cause". It is about restoring fundamental human rights that have been stripped by our legislature.

If he REALLY thinks DOMA should go away, he should NOT have asked SCOTUS to dismaiss a case that anyone with even half a brain says would have overtuned DOMA for him. Instead he wants to rely on the Congress to do the right thing, and eventually I think they will but the problem with that is that once the republican party takes back control they can easily put DOMA right back into action. And for all those bloogers out thaere asking how much money this (giving benefits to same sex partners) will cost, I pose this question:

How much money has it cost all of us taxpayers (gay and straight) to provide those benefits to straight couples over the decades? Maybe all LGBT's should be exempt from paying taxes that support things they are not entitled to?

It is a shame that this topic, takes more precedence over real issues and concerns that affect all citizens It should not matter nor be a concern. What should take place over this issues is to accept all citizens as people and not place judgement on one individual, if one is not ready to judge themselves. Our society has made mistakes to the treatment of people from long ago past and we all know what they were. It is time to accept this period. Exactly who are we to not allow others to live free, have that desired family get married, get divorce, or live happily ever after. If we continue to deny Gay's and Lesbians, Transgendered freedom we are committing another act of discrimination...

I love how some people think the GLBT community is selfish because we want equality. Many of them are Dems, too. With friends like this, etc... I hope you keep your word Mr. President. What you said yesterday was a step in the right direction. Please follow through.

The defense of marriage act legally prohibits same sex partners of fed employees from getting health care and retirements benefits. So, what is Obama offering? Free admission to the White House and Smithsonian every other Thursday? Pretty lame. Also, keep in mind the 1996 defense of marriage act is a shameful legal manuever designed to ensure that GLBT citizens do not have rights in this country. Revoking DOMA is not about privlidges or special treatment. It is about our human rights.

I wonder what Rosa Parks would say: "Be patient... just set at the back of the bus... let me take care of these white folks first." I thought Obama was a stronger leader in human rights, Obama" Yes I am working on this... but oh you know you are just 2nd class citizens." President Obama, Your actions yesterday was not strong leadership... you can do better than this and I trust you will.

I find that reference offensive. It's not as though Rosa refused to sit at the back of the bus and black people were given equal rights the next day. Indeed, wasn't the message precisely "sit on the back of the bus until white people are more comfortable?" It did take time back then and will take time. I believe that there should be equal rights for everyone and no, it's not right to tell anyone to wait for those human rights but I also do believe it giving the president some time.

A MORAL WRONG should never become a CIVIL RIGHT. The questions are like asking to answer yes or no to "Have you stopped beating your wife?" No wonder our country is coming apart at the seams when we are focused on such ignorant non-issues as finding new ways to endorse perversions. God help us - or should I say - God FORGIVE us?

This idea that he will be able to get everything done in the first year of his presidency is stupid. I see news media continuing to question why he hasn't been able to do everything in six months. This is ridiculous and unfair. At least give him a year before we discuss what he has or has not done. We gave George Bush 8 years to screw things up, we can give Obama at least a year to try and fix things.

I know Saints tend to forget

In Germany they first came for the Communists,
                                    and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist.

Then they came for the Jews,
                                    and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
                                    and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Catholics,
and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant.

Then they came for me —
and by that time no one was left to speak up.

What Homosexuals want and do is exactly the same as you Saintly Folk. Both parties are consenting Adults, loving, fighting and living how they best see fit for themselves. Harming no one and bring a little joy to this cold world for themselves, but No Saintly folk believe they should Kill and Persecute humans being themselves who harm no one.

Because that’s what you Saintly Folk Really want to do is Kill Homosexuals, lock them up – toss away the key – Right.

I wonder what would your Jesus Say?

Not the men who followed him, we know that they were far from perfect, How many times did they deny knowing their Demigod?

But Jesus Yeah That guy who hung with tax collectors and harlots, drank wine at celebrations and enjoyed serving others- Humm

Oh by the way Priests in the past got married not just to women but to other men

DOMA is Un American, Anti-Freedom and is no different than separate but equal and everyone knows Separate but Equal is just a coat of whitewash to soothe the conscience of those who do nothing.

What did Burke say evil needs to triumph?

In Germany they first came for the Communists,
                                      and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist.

Then they came for the Jews,
                                      and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
                                      and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Catholics,
and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant.

Then they came for me —
and by that time no one was left to speak up
                                      .

Matt. 7:1 "Do not judge, or you too will be judged."

Matt 7:3 "And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?"

                                        A Moral Wrong?

                                        Really?

Oh, So why don’t you tell us the other perversions?

Would that be someone marring outside their Race?

I guess like so many other Saintly Folk because you think freedom means “as long as others do what you chose to do” that it’s okay?

I think Breeders should be licensed and limited to one live birth per couple.

Because Human Breeding is a perversion to the health of Mother Earth

Human breading causes real harm to our world,

What actual harm does One Consenting adult Loving another Consenting Adult without progeny do actually?

                                        How is it perversion?

But even if it were, Individual Freedom to paraphrase JS Mill, Means as long as my acts don’t affect you or yours then really have no right to enforce your will on me. In Other words you practice the perversion of breading and Christianity and I will leave you alone and you stay out of my choice of lovers.

The Saintly are always so ready to help the sinner by showing him the error of his ways and if they have to torture, mame, or kill a few sinners along the way Heck it saved their soul's right! If you think being told by pompus blowhards that what you are is a pervert and that who you love is a sin and that the goverment and its elected representitives still think its Okay to keep the most basic of rights from you becuse of Polling data, that its okay to take away peoples rights with less than a 2/3 vote -heck you need that to pass a buddget - then maybe we shouldn't toot our horn about how free we really are.

Really? I mean, with everything else going wrong in the world, some people are ACTUALLY complaining about what Obama has done in the first 5 months of presidency? Really? Now, think about this. First of all, we gave George Bush 4 years of screwing things up, and THEN we were stupid enough to elect him for ANOTHER 4 years. Think about that why don't you? People who are judging Obama so quickly in his first 5 months are simply so quick to judge because they messed up big time in electing George Bush TWICE and don't want to look like idiots again. Obama will follow through with his promises, I assure you that, but only if Congress allows him. Congress makes the final call, not him. Read the Constitution while you're at it. Second of all, we've got more important things to focus on than gay rights. Considering that being gay is a sin and marriage was created BY God and for His children to form a covenant between a MAN AND a WOMAN; not man and man nor woman and woman. Marriage was a thing created by God and needs to be performed under his rules, not Obama's nor Congress's rules. If people want to be gay, I have no problem with that, it's your life, and you're the one who's going to have to answer for your decisions in the end, but what I do have a problem with is those who are gay taking GOD'S sacred ceremony and inserting it into a sin. So people, why don't you just focus on the important things, like the economy. I mean honestly, if the economy's shot, how can you even afford the wedding?

I agree completely with you Courtney-1168476. The agenda of the gay and lesbian community is not of greatest importance. I am also tired of the comparison between gay rights and the Civil Rights struggle for minorities. There is no comparison!!! First of all, the struggle was for the equal treatment of all people to have the same opportunities under the constitution and yes that included the gay and lesbian community, but that was so all could be valued as HUMANS, God's children. The stuggle for the right to life is not the same as the struggle to have what God created as a sacred union between a MAN and a WOMAN be trampled upon and taken out of context. The Bible does condemn the gay and lesbian lifestyle, and the choice of such an existence is SIN!!! The gay and lesbian community and those that are tolerant of such a lifestyle need to turn to the Bible and have a better understanding of our Creator and stop interpreting the Bible to suit such a sinful agenda.

It's discusting that you people that want to call us that uphold morality and life's order odd and out of contact. We uphold the same biblical standards that say, "Thou shall not kill, thou shall not steal, etc." Thou shall not have sexual relations with the same sex is in the same book. Why not just throw the whole book out and lets kill all and steal everything. Why do you want to hold on to this part of the bible?
