If the government could just stop bailing every wasteful corporation out things would get better.

As our country's debt spirals out of control, our great leadrer Obama, is going to reform our healthcare. We can see how well a Capitalistic Health Plan works in Canada. So much for being rewarded for working hard and earning a good living. Obama is going to give it all to the lazy. I'm thinking about retiring to Mexico now.

mel is quick to jump so I must assume that he has a great health care package.

But he will not notice Italy or France or any other advanced country in the world.

We pay twice as much as the others but rank 37 in health care for our people,

As for affording to pay for a good health care program , I see mel and others eagerly supporting huge military expenses and interventions in countries that are not our concern This is usually done because of our big cooperation's desire to control that countries resources.

Canadians may have to wait for non-essential surgery and treatment, but things like serious illness accidents are taken care of immediately, at NO COST. At least no one in Canada has to worry about going into debt for life due to medical costs.

I agree with Homesick Yank. While Canadians may have to wait for non-essential health care, everything is covered. You don't worry about your kid getting sick and not being able to pay the doctor bill. I have a friend whose son was just seriously injured in a car accident. He'll survive but the emergency room bills have placed them in a horrible financial situation ... pay the doctor or pay the rent? And follow up care for his injuries? Well he's at home on a sofa with pain killers ... again because they have to decide to get treatment or put food on the table.

The best care I ever got was from military doctors when I was both active duty and a dependant. Preventative care was a priority. Emergency care was given when necessary. Long term and follow up care for injuries and illnesses were great. And the doctors weren't afraid to tell you to make changes to your life to correct a problem rather than hand you a pill. I think America needs this.

the American dream is not about the expensive house, car, the newest gadgets, etc. it's about a chance to work hard for what you want, being able to decide what is right and being free to succeed or fail on your own merits. YOU decide what the dream is, not others.

You aren't the only ones who agree with this. If you have enough to put a roof over your head, food on the table, clean water to drink, clothes on your back and be able to lend a helping hand to others you have enough. Most Americans don't realize that this by itself would be considered an unatainable dream by people living in most third world countries.

The "American Dream" is being destroyed by the Republicans and Democrats in Congress. They do not believe in being "American", thinking American, or representing Americans!

The members of each party are interested in THEIR political allies, THEIR healthcare plan, THEIR salary and perks, THEIR control over the people of the USA, and benefitting only THEMSELVES! And, we keep putting them back in office because too many people follow the parties like lemmings. DUMB!!!

If we, as Americans, loose the "American Dream", it is because we do not live our lives and make decisions as Americans. WE will have turned our backs on our flag, our history, our founding fathers.

My dreams were stolen by SBC reducing our pensions, having us pay for our health insurance after we retired and my rollover IRA Mutual Fund that was conservative going belly up.My small business isn't making enough after taxes to live on.How in the hell do you start over after 58?Some country this is to let corporate America and the stock market scammers do this to hard working, tax paying Americans. We the taxpayers should have been bailed out if there was any bailing out to do and not the banks and auto industry.Chase bank who raised the 8.99 fixed on my business Visa card to 16.99 even though I pay more than the minimum and pay it the same day the bill comes in.And Chase got a bailout. If there was any country that would tell Americans,"We'd love to have you hard working people and we'll help you start over",I'd leave the U.S.A in a heartbeat.

Financial independence is very much a part of the American dream and when its no longer part of the equation things go from bad to worse in a real hurry. Over the past 24 months I lost my home and my my business I now work for someone else, live in an apartment. There are thousands of stories just like mine in every state in the country, the American dream is once again a goal for me and I'm working on a 10 year plan that should put me in a better place. I'm grateful for the opportunity to be able to chase the American dream and that's what I think the American dream is ultimately about

The American dream for anyone can't be had until the greed that got us into this mess is wiped out. However, the possibility of that happening is close to nil. So what will happen again is the greed mongers will find a way to get theirsand leave all of of hard working Americans down in the water up to our necks, withthe control to put us under. Obama is not a savior. He is just a single person. He can't do it himself.

As far as the bailout goes, the banks and such should have not gotten it. The people should have gotten bailouts. Lets see, if they people got a bailout with the stipulation of all their major debts being paid off (house, car, school, credit cards...etc), the banks and financial districts, car companies,...etc would have been in great shape.

Is there a reason I should be paying off your personal debt? That's right. Obama can't do it himself. He has the entire Congress trying to take our money. As the lady in line in Detroit waiting on her "free money" said after being asked where the money came from, she replied, she didn't know probably from Obama's stash! What happens when that "stash" runs out?

                                        Voting has consequences.

Up is down and down is up. Pay your bills, work hard, and see it all wiped out by individuals and corporations greed, who are then rewarded for their duplicity. Let down doesn't even come close. All of this, and a congress that ignores their constituents to push their agenda. It's time to put them in their own brand of hell. Unemployed and afraid for their future. And maybe wondering if they may have to confront one or two of those "ignored" constituents soon.

should we impeach the whole administration or just all the lawyers and thieves that are running the government? The Health Care Czar is as crooked as they get... Greedy and self serving, as are all the politicians. Especially Pres. Obama and H. Clinton (both lawyers)..

You use a credit card, I pay cash. You eat fast food, I can beans. You have a support your troops sticker on your toyota, I've been across the ocean 20 times since 911. I buy ammo, you have none. Now, dont ask me what to do. I defend my constitution. You shake with fear. You will die broke, I will die free. Sleep well.

When elections come up American's will stand up and make the necessary changes to get the government back in the hands of real, honest (hopefully), American's again. George Washington is not the only American who can successfully unit the country though revolution.

I've come to believe that for most of us the American Dream is a fantasy; just smoke and mirrors. 90+% of us are wage slaves that can be cut off at the knees anytime the big business and political lobbies decide to do so. Two of us have to work full time to feed and raise our kids properly, and that can change in a heartbeat if the 10%'ers decide to change the field so they can improve their share to 12%. If one of our employers makes cut backs because they invest wrong and one of us ends up out of work, that American Dream disappears quickly. If the one can find a job it's one where he or she has usually lost pay grade and benefits. If one of our kids gets catastrophically sick, we end up losing almost everything to pay the medical bills. Our politicians are supposed to work for us, but they really work to get re-elected and for vested interests. The Government as a whole has a policy of lying to us first, and telling the truth only when forced to, and then only in bits and pieces. We are fighting wars now that our short sighted leaders either directly caused, or brought about through stupidity and neglect. And in the middle of this we are trying to raise strong straight kids in a society that allows the media to bombard them with the most foul, twisted and violent crap that the "entertainment community" can vomit forth. My parents had a life with continuity and a level of security, while my wife and I struggle to survive in a society that's like playing football on a field with land mines. I think for most the American Dream has become the American Nightmare. God help us.
