I think of him as sad, to be honest. He was brilliant, but never happy. In the end, unfortunately, his weirdness made others unhappy too.

Yes, I believe him to be the greatest Pop Star. However, M.J.'s actions forced him in to retirement early. But, I will always remember Michael Jackson's "moonwalking" the 1st time and, "Thriller, Billy Jean and Beat it"songs/videos as his BEST. They were pioneer videos of MTV at its infancy and greatest era! Sadly, I will also remember the stages of plastic surgery. I assumed he was done after the 1st video he did exposing the change. I thought he looked good after the 1st 1 but, obviously he COULDN'T SEE himself as others did. Hard to miss a singer who hasn't produced in years and tried to act like a child too. Before the Whacko Jacko there was Michael. I will always play his music from 1980's up to that "change'.

As the creator of two of the best and most influential pop albums ever: Off the Wall and Thriller.

Also as the prototype child singer. No one that young has sung that well before or since.

              ...

A reminder: follow the Code of Honor in the ensuing discussion. Discussing Jackson's controversies isn't deathtrolling, but comment on the event without violating any rule but especially #1:

Above all else, respect others. Address issues and arguments and refrain from making personal attacks. If you see something disrespectful or inappropriate, report it - rather than further inflaming the situation.

As a child, when he began, he was my my best and favorite music teacher thru example. It depresses me that many in our country has chosen to dismiss the very artists we create or point out human flaws over positives at death. There has never been any finer talent in music from America. People may not appreciate  what it takes to do what he has done in this country as an musical artist. All these negative comments do is deter many from music.

May he who casts the first stone have lived your life without any sin . Once upon a time, thsi was called a Christian.

I miss you Michael Jackson!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Your music will always live on in my mind, my heart and my soul. May God bless you .

I completely agree with you. He wasn't perfect, who is? But he was an icon and paved the way for so many after him. I am truly saddened at his death and it upsets me that people are trampling on his grave before he has even been laid to rest. I think he was sad. I feel he missed out on a childhood and tried to become one again. RIP Michael, I will always remember being scared of your thriller video when it first came out...I was 3! But have loved it ever since!

Why is it in death his actions in life are all of a sudden forgotten?

Giving kids "Jesus Juice" and sleeping in a bed full of kids when he was over 40 years old would put most people in prision.

Even if these encounters with young kids were totally innocent - he had just wanted kids around so he could be a kid too - he placed himself in a position where no matter how innocent the encounter was, people would be suspicious of his actions. Those around him should have pointed that out to him.

Remember when speaking publicly, he used the falsetto voice - his real voice wasn't that high and childish. He was like Peter Pan, the kid who never grew up. His childhood was never normal, so he chased after what he missed.

I cannot look at recent photos of him - he turned himself into something not human. I see his younger photos - and wow - he was a cute kid! If ONLY he had left well enough alone physically. Fame just totally screwed him over and that's the real tragedy here.

Rest in Peace Michael. I hope you finally feel good about yourself.

From what I understand he grew up being told his nose was ugly and he was as well - all this by his father. How could anyone overcome that? It's a wonder he did what he did to he appearance Did the Pepsi fire have anything to do with the condition of his face - whay has no one asked that? He drastically changed right after that fire. He managed to look beyond that with his music and dancing. He wasn't CONVICTED of anything - we need to remember that. With as many people who were looking into this, if ANYTHING had been found he would have been convicted - shouldn't that speak for itself? The Media had him tried, convicted, and they continued to sentence him the rest of his life. They even left OJ alone but continued to focus on Michael. He's a prime example that money cannot buy you happiness. Wish he could have surrounded himself with his fans, instead of the bloodsuckers. You were a wonderful part of all our childhoods and we will love that part of you forever - Rest in Peace Michael.

tyler - I completely agree - Off the Wall and Thriller are THE BEST ALBUMS ever.

Today, many Los Angelenos were blasting Michael Jackson songs from their cars and singing at the top of our lungs, including me.

I am very glad that 93.5FM (Los Angeles) is playing much of his music today. I need to hear everything.

Man in the Mirror is one of my favorites. All of them are.

So if someone puts a knife to your throat and asks u to hand over the money would you be called a 'wuss' for handing it over? You do it because you want to get pass the moment alive isn't it? And I'm wondering sir, don't criminals, rapists, peodophiles walk among us and sit next to us in a coffee house even? Why isn't THAT in question right now? Just cos Michael was ACCUSED...i repeat..ACCUSED of molesting, doesn't mean he is guilty. Couldn't it be that the family of the kid knew Michael had money and merely wanted to make use of him? Isn't THAT a possibility? Or does only sadistic notions such as what you have thought of thus far the only things that run in your sad 2 ounce brain? And last two things, if the court of law acquitted him, I wonder how and who gave you the knowledge and power to judge him. Finally, unless you were THERE to see him touch the genitals of a child in a sexual way, please, I say please, do not act like you can make a prediction on life. Cos if you did...you'd have seen my comment coming from a mile away. Michael inspired those very people whose music you hear on the radios right now, you ought to get out of you condom more often and see the world.

I concur. He was a brillant musician and entertainer. Unfortunately for whatever reasons he also had a troubled soul and made some poor decisions regarding his personal life and boundaries. My faith tells me that he is a peace in heaven, dancing on the moon. My thoughts and prayers to his children, family and fans. Hopefully the press, paparazzi and others will let them grow up with respect and dignity to become the person God intended them to be.

oh yea 'cause we all know that thosekids are safe from those catholic preists being relocated to other parishes. so what he was an adult who rly liked kids...how would you know if he ever did something to them...he was an amazing artist who the world will miss,,,if no one loved him for who he is then all of this media and the people mourning the world is doing means nothing...well guess what i think more people love him for many other things than for his "alleged" pedophilia (that no one PROVED!) evidently since humans do not know anything let God sort it out...M.J. will be missed by me and most of all the world.

These creeps are all over the web. They drop grenades everywhere looking for a response. The world knows MJ was not what they say he was. Millions around the world are mourning his passing and that is the real story. He provided the world with a chance to smile with his talent and sacrificed his own childhood in doing so. That was his problem. He never wanted to leave his childhood. He wanted to be as the rest of us do frome time to time Forever Young.......Rip Michael and thank you for being you.

Micheal was a Great Artisit that people were jealous of !! Micheal made many many advances in the Music industry that worked in everyday Life. I wish the Media and people would leave Him and His Family alone. Peopleand the media want to jump on things and lies that they have NO proven facts on. The media and others in this world are all acting like little children that have no manners, I was taught to respect the fact of someone passing and not talk about them or their life. I wish people to think about this and just remeber the goods things about Micheal not their stupid rummors!!!

Why don't the four people above jerk each other off? Didn't mama ever tell you not to believe strangers? Were the journalists who reported your family? Were the children who accused Michael your sons? Strangers people, strangers. Even the court of law believes that one is 'innocent untill proven guilty'. You can let a thousand criminals run free but never...NEVER accuse an innocent. Michael was acquitted. He was ACQUITTED! Which part of that don't you dorks understand? Stick your head up each other's arses and start cleaning it cos I'd bet thats filthy judging from how filthy you people can think.

he was acquitted. you might want to ask the parents who allowed their children to go spend days and nights with strangers. perhaps the greedy parents thought they'd get paid.

OJ was acquitted too. Doesn't make what either of them did right. As for the parents of his victims, they are complicit, but again, doesn't make it ok. Just as it wasn't okay that his own childhood was taken from him.

What a sad state that a few people can't remember the good a person did and only remember the negatives but refuse to hear or listen to the TRUTH. Here are the facts and those of you who still think that Michael molested anyone get your facts straight and listen to the TRUTH. Why do people only remember the bad things but when the TRUTH comes out they ignore it. Michael was not charged. The boys father was basically blackmailing Mr. Jackson for millions of dollars and rather than go through years defending himself and proving his innocence and to save the children from the horror of being put in a court he paid the blackmailer. YEARS later when the boy grew up he gave interviews and told everyone that Michael never did anything to him or any other child. I REPEAT THE BOY WHO WAS SUPPOSE TO BE A VICTIM TOLD THE TRUTH WHEN HE GOT AWAY FROM HIS BLACKMAILER FATHER AND TOLD THE PUBLIC THAT MICHAEL IN NO WAY MOLESTED HIM OR ANYONE ELSE. TONIGHT ON LOCAL TV THEY INTERVIEWED ANOTHER CHILD THAT STAYED AT MICHAELS HOME FOR A LITTLE WHILE ALSO TOLD THE INTERVIEWERS THAT MICHAEL NEVER MOLESTED ANYONE . On CNN the video where the young man now much older told the truth and said the charges were false and he nor the other children were ever molested. Please why do people only remember what they want to remember especially when it turns out to be FALSE? Just sick minded people who don't want to hear the truth and can only think bad about people. Michael WAS THE VICTIM OF A FULL BLOWN BLACKMAILER! Now these are the sick people. Michael gave us music that will last forever and music to try and unite the world. We were lucky he shared and gave us the gift of his talent. An Icon is gone forever. RIP Michael.

The real perverts are the ones who in the face of proof decide to still accuse innocent people and go so far as saying that our court system is flawed if a person they deem guilty is acquittted and the people who caused him to go to trial in the first place later come forward and say they lied. How stupid these creeps are.

I remember when that little boy with the monumental talent became famous in the '70's. I was a young mother, and as much as I enjoyed his wonderful music, I suspected that he had no childhood. He was exploited without mercy, first by his family, and then by his "keepers". His "keepers" were all about their "meal ticket". They took advantage of the fact that Michael had no life experience; no frame of reference that would've provided him with the tools to be able to see the real motives of the kind of greedy scum bags that have developed the unique ability to exploit people like him. These slimy greed bags took charge of access to him, and these were the worst possible people. Under that kind of control, he never stood a chance. People like Michael Jackson, who become famous because of their talent, and then become very rich because of it, also become increasingly isolated by it. They are kept isolated from the help they really need by the real ajenda of the slease nearest to him; his money. I believe that this was what happened to Elvis Presly. He was prevented from seeking real medical help by his "keeper", the colonel. He would still be with us if he would have been allowed to see a real doctor. If Michael Jackson got real psychiatric help, I believe his life would never have been tainted by the pedofilia scandal. Of course I believe that proven pedofiles are "incurable" and should be put in jail forever, just like all of you. But I think, somewhere along the line, that if Michael Jackson would've gotten the help he so sorely needed, the odds he would become a pedofile would have been greatly reduced. His artistic gifts made us very happy, but these gifts denied him happiness. This is tragic.

tyler- I think you are a very sick person. There is a lot of pressure on people in the Lime Light. He couldn't do or go anywhere !!!!! What would you be like if you were stuck with out a rewal life of your own. Everybody seemed to own Michael Jackson, and wanted to be him, but really would you like his life??? He was accused and he paid through life for thin gs he didn't do. The parents of these so called molested children just wanted money the easy way, that's all. I just hope God will forgive you at your end of life.

tyler... I am happy to see that you are enforcing the Code of Honor.

I have read many comments over the past few days not only on Michael Jackson but other newsvine stories and comments but found many of them appeared to be disrespectful according to the Code of Honor.

While everyone has the right to their opinions and to disagree. It can be done without abuse or false statements.

I enjoy reading other peoples comments, their points of view on the Newsvine, but when it is done in a rude and crude manner I stop reading and a lot will be put on ignore.

That comment is worse than the gossiping old women at the back fence. You should be glad that you live in a coutry that permits you to falsely accuse a person like that.

Not right in the head? Show us how you know that and tell us what credentials you have that would make us believe you are qualified to know that. Have you ever examined him in person or are you jus going by wht you read in the tabloid. If the latter is true then tell us if you have examined any of the aliens you find in those same tabloids.

It has changed the lives of his victims? Since he was never convicted and his alleged victims have recanted their original stories proving beyond a doubt he never molested them where are the victims? Maybe he offended the aliens you read about where you get your information.......

I will remember him as a FREAK, and a child molestor. I liked him until he changed his looks. He looked just fine back in the 1980's there was NOTHING wrong with him. But he changed. I do like his songs from the 80's though. But unfortunately I won't remember that as much as the Wacko Jacko stuff. He turned weird and I didn't like him after that.

It is indeed sad to see how many people will find a needle in a haystack and keep diggin their noses with it. You find one thing on Michael..and you keep harping on it till eternity. Honestly, it is very tiring to deal with people who cannot live knowing that he was a musical legend. People just don't appreciate music the same way anymore. Now, you have to NOT have any allegations thrown at you in order to be respected as an artist? And yes, I will believe that Michael would've gotten surgery done on his looks, but if pamela anderson stuffs silicon into her boobs, you get people silently watching her pictures in the loo and appreciating it. So bottom line people, if you ain't getting a boob job, do not get anything done cos they will poke u in the eye with it. Sadly Michael didn't get a boob job huh? Else you guys will have more to talk about apart from, "hey dude...u shat in your pants today?" "Yeah man...it was cool" Peace out!

As a complicated person. I loved his music but his personal life was questionable. I only wish he could have told us the truth before he left this earth. No matter how great his music was, his personal issues will overshadow them - sadly.

It is so sad. I really did grow up with Michael and the Jackson 5 - I LOVED THEM! (I'm 52 years old). I think he was an incredible performer, extremely talented but very, very troubled. I think he suffered a lot during his childhood with a domineering father and it effected his psyche and emotional development. Whatever the controversies in his life, he is now gone and I hope he is resting in peace.

Totally agree. He struggled a lot in his life, was certain the victim of abuse at the hands of his father, and was very troubled. Whether or not he was inappropriate with children... it might be true, but it's not for me to speculate. There's no doubt that he was a very talented person, though.

I too loved the Jackson 5 and am singing those pop anthems in my head even now. I want to remember Michael as that cute, talented little kid who sang and danced his heart out. Whatever weirdness took him over as an adult, his talent was real. A victim? probably, a victimizer? who knows. Just a loss to his fans, and those who appreciated his tremendous talent.

People from ALL OVER THE WORLD are commenting here, not just the US so please everyone has a right to express their sorrow and have some understanding. Michael loved all people and wanted us all to love each other and respect each other. On many of the US web sites people are expressing their sadness at the loss of Michael so you will see many foreign languages on pretty much all the sites. Just know they are expressing their sorrow.

I'm only a 19 year old...hardly the person who grew up listening to his music but definatly a fan and I definatly know more than you. Check your facts before you sound like an idiot.

he was aquited of the charges plain and simple. he was a great musician...lets leave the petty insults to someone living and deserving of them. Disrespecting the dead..how low can you get. it's worse than you believe he was.

When a white,Asian,Idian,etc...get's plastic surgery is their anything wrong with that race are they humiliating their race? No. Maybe he humiliated your which means you need someone to validate who you are.

Michael Jackson was an incredible entertainer. He touched many lives in positive ways. My prayers go out to his family and friends. He will be missed.

But face it, he was very odd (to say the least) and most likely a child molester. Being aquited made him innocent in the eyes of the law. It doesn't mean he didn't do it. He was a fourty-something hanging out with little kids all the time. Occam's Razor. Dying doesn't change the fact that he probably did some pretty horrible things.

                                                              Camikila,

You have a lot more to learn.

Just because someone is aquitted does not mean they didn't do what they are being accused of doing--it only means there isn't enough proof at the time of the case...or, it may mean the defense has more money to cover tracks. Did you ever see the movie with Bjork "Dancer in the Dark"? See this and you'll understand better how things can go either way depending on your monetary status. Things tend to go your way more often when you have money on your side. In his case, I don't know who was right or wrong, but he definitely seemed 'off' to me.

If you have children, you should understand better, why it's a creepy turnoff when a grown man is known to sleep with children in his bed in the way he described in interviews--plain and simple. He was off in the head a little.

Yes, we need to respect the dead, of course. The the truth of the matter is, however, he definitely made some disturbing decisions, acted irratically, and did some very questionable things that most people will remember first and foremost when they think of him. His bizarre behavior will overshadow his legacy as a king of pop.

Of course he was an amazing entertainer, everyone knows this. But, just because someone is a great performer doesn't mean they should be able to do whatever they want. A person should not be granted pardon for acting inappropriately because they make good music and can dance the moonwalk. It doesn't matter how much money you have or how many great the deeds you did in your life, no one should hold their baby over a balcony or do some of the things that even Micheal himself admitted doing.

If only he had an intervention years ago, he may have been able to redeem his image and save himself. Someone should have been there in his life to stop him from the plastic surgery debacles. A psychiatrist a therapist, whatever, should have been there. Someone who would talk him out of destroying himself. Someone who would help talk sense into him. He may have been able to clear things up and live a more healthy life. If he had never started doing plastic surgery, he may never have had autoimmune problems. Really, how does this happen to someone like this? I can only guess, he paid people to leave him alone. He did what he felt was best for him, which evidentally probably lead to his death. People could see this long ago, but no one did anything to change anything.

As for desicrating himself--yes, he certainly did. There is no medical reason why he did what he did to his face other than a psychological disturbance. Look an anyone with lupus or vitiligo (which he reportedly had) and see if they have disfiguring faces like him. I doubt you will find even one person in this group that voluntarily chose to destroy their face through hundreds of plastic surgeries the way he did. What is apparent with him is that he tried to look more caucasian, rather than just trying to smooth out the coloration in his skin. If he was proud of his african american roots, he wouldn't have tried looking more caucasian, would he? . Sad, but true.

humiliated his own race? thats really missing the point. michael jackson preached that race doesnt matter atall, so surgery of that kind on him should really be seen as impartial to skin colour. yes, if a famous and very fanatic black power activist (for example) had similar surgery then maybe it could been seen as slightly embarassing but still, as humans in these modern times, we all need to try and look past colour.

i dont know if your black or not but if you are that kind of statement does show a bit too much pride in your own race. if any black person does feel humiliated that michael went over to the 'white side' then they really shouldnt as its against what even he said.

and it was surgery anyway so ...

I think Michael was a very misunderstood individual. A lot of people out there love to capitalize ($$$$) on / from famous people so I can't or won't believe all the horrible stories about him.

Michael, you will be GREATLY MISSED!!

He was the epicenter of rumours, accusations, and criticism from almost every corner of culture present in society. Still had great music though, I tip my hat to you out of respect Michael.

I love Michael, I hate what he did but I don't hate him. Don't judge a person until you walk a mile in their shoes. I will remeber the old Michael and all of his clothes, his songs (especially Billy Jean). Thriller was the all time great. I grew up to all of his songs. Michael was the orginal and so many have taken his style. He is a true icon.

He was a fine looking dude, but he was not happy with himself. He changed and not for the better.I would have felt more for him if he had not changed. I really thought highly of him in the 80's but I don't think much of him now. He was acquitted of the Child molesting charges, but I still thought he was guilty. People like and remember the old Michael Jackson, not the new one.

Testified against Harmon and he is now serving 42 to life. I don't hate Harmon at all I forgave him. Besides that I never said Michael was guilty did I? That's between him, the kids and the man above.
