Would you drink coffee made from animal poo?

Kopi Luwak, or civet coffee, is one of the most expensive brews in the world – 2 pounds of the stuff sells for as much as $700 in Europe. But the way it’s made may give you pause: Coffee beans are fed to a civet – a critter that looks like a cat on steroids – then are separated from its droppings. Would you drink civet coffee? Discuss and share your thoughts with other readers.

Well, maybe I’d smell it, at least. But $700 for two pounds is even more expensive than Starbucks!

I wonder who the first person to try poo coffee was. They must've had a serious caffeine habit and been in a real bind!

As always, MSNBC gets the headline and the opinion question wrong. The coffee is not made from Civet dung but from coffee beans. Why not?

I would probably try it if I didn't have to pay that much. I like coffee, but no coffee is worth $700/2pounds!

EVERYONE HERE - PAY ATTENTION: YES, DOGS ARE PICKED, SOLD, SLAUTERED AND COOKED TO REQUEST IN PLACES LIKE CHINA. THAT IS THEIR CULTURE. AND YES, THERE ARE WORMS, DEAD BUGS, LIVING BUGS, EVEN FLIES IN OUR DAILY FOOD CONSUMPTION IN AMERICA. USDA HOLDS HEARING FOR ALL THE FOODS WE GROW/EAT. INSTANCE: Mid-Atlantic Milk Marketing Hearing (or some other region). Hearings are held to determine the price of the milk (and other dairy products) AND to decide how much bacteria and/or fecees will be allowed in the milk product BY LAW. USDA holds these type of hearing on ALL foods grown and sold in America. The hearings are open to the public. The farmers often present their cases to help them get a better price. These hearings are held periodically in different locations all over the country. Just in case you think this ifno is incorrect - visit USDA's website or call them. Hearings are held on vidallia onions, peanuts, cashews, cabbage, meats, poultry, fish, canned goods, rice - EVERYTHING. Meetings are even help re: WOOL. And when you sit in on one milk hearing or one beef hearing you will change the way you eat and drink, I guarantee. And for every single person who said it is okay to drink the poo coffee, you are absolutely correct: It will not cause you harm, and you do actually eat worse without ever knowing it. And one more point: this is not news people. It's just old information being re-hashed. Interesting, but old ..... and sadly, true. HAGD

Does anyone think about the conditions that this poor animal must endure in order to help supply this disgusting product? These products for the ultra rich are disgusting. It's the same with Foie Gras, where they force-feed geese to enlarge their livers; they're probably doing the same kind of thing with the Civet.
