Federer has 15 major title wins as well as reaching the semi-finals (or better) of the last 21 consecutive Grand Slam tournaments.
Roger is great, but he has a nemasis in Rafael Nadal that seems to truly have his number, specifically in the French Open (Nadal is up 13-7 on Federer all time, up 11-5 in all time finals, up 6-2 in Grand Slam tourneys and up 5-2 in Grand Slam Finals) . Although there is the occasional random player to show up for a major tournament in golf for the most part Tiger truly dominates his sport like no other, especially on the big stage.
Federer's greatest achievement is to have played in 20 consecutive Grand Slam finals. This performance is all the more remarkable given the presence of the likes of Nadal, Djokovic, Murray and Roddick. These are remarkable players who would have easily dominated at other times in tennis history. It may seem paradoxical, but the fact that Federer has an overall losing record against Nadal actually strengthens his case as the best player ever. He has remained at the summit even in the face of such ferocious opposition.
I love both of these sportsmen and for that reason, I hate this survey. These two are friends also, so I hope they don't hear about it or if they do that they treat it for what it is, someone trying to write a news story.
Thats a no-brainer, of course its Federer. At 27 years old, he is in his prime and very dangerous. He will probably play at least another 5 years and will be the best ever when he retires.Since that crybaby Woods has returned, he has won 3 no happening tournaments that noboby saw. Federer has won the French Open and Wimbledon( 2 out of 3 majors so far) and the crybaby is 3-7 in 10 tournaments this year. At 3-7........ a MLB pitcher, a UFC fighter or even a bull fighter woulnd't has the kind of press that little crybaby has. Golf is not even a sport , it's a pastime like bowling and poker meaning anyone can do it and win.Federer has skill and the crybaby has luck.
Different skills, different sports. Tiger is playing against his own expectations more than against other golfers. Federer is more involved in one-on-one. Tiger concentrates like no other athlete has ever concentrated. He can anticipate not only the ball but the grass. My bet is on Tiger to last longer at the top of his sport even if Roger Federer shines brighter for a shorter time. Tiger will eventually have his game serve as a clinic on how it's done.
This is a dumb vote. You are comparing apples to oranges.
There is one thing for certain once you get above the top five in tennis there is no competition. This is truly not the case in golf. There are 20-25 guys out there who can win on any given day.
True. On that path you can claim guys in other sports ( track'n field, swimming, etc.) to be more dominant, like Edwin Moses in 400 hurdle or Carl Lewis in long jump. It's just so different. Those are physical games. Although there are lots of skills involved in tennis, it's still mostly a physical game. Golf is a much more fickle game than tennis, and physicality is much less of a factor. I bet Fed will beat say a #50 ranking player 99 out of 100 times, probably 100 of 100. It will never happen in golf. That's why I'd say it's much more impressive to dominate golf than tennis.

to be in 20 consecutive grand slam finals is an incredible achievement that is unlikely to be matched for a long time, if ever.
