People die every minute of every day & their lives are just as precious as his, but they're ignored. This is a slap in the face to them.
People who debate this either don't know their history or have taken it for granted. Michael Jackson sang & danced the world into tolerance

I think it was nice for all his fans to get to see the coverage of his funeral, but I hope this will be the last of it, it's time to move o
Those who keep calling MJ a child molester obviously do not understand US jurisprudence. & MJ touched my life, not your dead uncle Joe.
Plenty of people were watching everything about him, and still are. You think the media doesn't know what people want? Come on........
His fans were interested in his life and now that he's gone suddenly there are a lot of people who want to know what happened.
Fortunately, tmany people around the world thank the networks for letting us share thecelebration of the life of Michael Jackson with his family. Have the critics forgotton the media coverage, for weeks on end, of Anna Nicole Smith?
Carlos, I totally agree with you that the coverage of Michael Jackson has been over the top. I'm not surprised that sales of his music and other memorabilia has skyrocketed, but I would be very disappointed if we see his brothers and sisters riding the wave and trying to stage their own come-backs. Let the "poor" man rest in peace.
In response to Carlos Watson discussion regarding the coverage of Michael Jackson, if you wish to put an end to this all day, everyday coverage, then why keep talking about him, the memorial or things that are frankly non of our business (his finances, his children, etc)....everyone has something in their life and/or past they would not want to be remembered or talked about certainly upon their death. I find your judgment surprising, since I am a fan and watch everyday, this is the first time I've notice your unfair viewing and frankly, unfairness toward the King of Pop...Michael Jackson has done more good, great and rewarding than his faults could ever measure up to.
I am happy to see someone in the press stating that this coverage is over top. However, the Memorial showed that the good Reverand Al did not pay attention to MJ's message of tolerance and acceptance of others. For him to use terms like "US" as a division of race shows that he will keep racism alive in America. Then to bring up MJ as a civil rights trailblazer, I guess Al didnt know of people like Ray Charles, who brought his blues to mainstream America; or Chuck Berry, who the Beatles list as their main influence.
Thanks Al, you put race relations back 40 years. If Al or anyone would like to speak to me one on one, give him my email.
In response to Carlos Watson question: is there to much media coverage of Michael Jackson...since you appear to think so, then I ask you, "why are you still talking about it"..I agree, the service is over and now it's time to allow the family and fans to move on and these petty conversations from the media, especially about areas of no business of the public, should stop...his finances, children and personal matters are not a need for us to know, but its you and the media which keep this going and often in a negative direction...there are things in all our pasts we certainly don't want to be reminded of or remember for, so lets allow Michael Jackson and his family the same peace, respect and dignity we all desire....I watch your show everyday from work, and frankly, I'm surprised at your attitude and negativity with this issue.
I agree. If Carlos Watson did not even take the time to watch the Memorial, he should not have discussed it on his show. Are we not supposed to give Michael the respect he deserves because we are going through a bad economy? Michael Jackson holds the record forgiving to the most Charities. This man was loved WORLD WIDE! I am sure that when the Media turns back to the negative aspects of his life, Carlos may be more interested. I was also surprised and disappointed. I could not watch the rest of the show.
Carlos, did you get your talking points from a white threatened male or is there one living deep within you? I've never witnessed a black man openly trying to assimilate to a culture who in spite of Obama's success can't identify with many of the things we deem important in our culture, like family. Compare the showy coverage of Michael Jackson to any other 40 year plus entertainers' questionable death, and get back to me with a reasonable time period to cover it. I'm sure you'll be told what your answer should be. Just seeing a black story on TV is a change from constant white media opinions which you happen to mimic. Come clean and quit frontin', that means faking your true sentiment or intent.
Your public culture waffling under the cover of covering important news is nauseating!
I completely agree with you William. Carlos Watson has some real issues!
I agree with William W comments.
For millions and millions of people all around the wolrd and for myself, I'm thankfull for the coverage that the media did and is doing so far. Michael Jackson deserves to be honered, he deserves to be respected and he deserves to know how much we love him. He will be missed and loved for ever and ever.
Thank you Michael and thank you media for a wonderful coverage; I only wish the media will always remember Michael.
Honored by whom? Missed by whom? Not me or any of my friends. The liberal media has made his death and what followed an even bigger circus than his life. Was he talented? You bet. Was he strange? Even more so. Cher is just as talented as he was and just as strange with all the facial surgery. Will she be given the media coverage at her death? No way.
The media knows strange sells, so they aired it out on Michael. Kinda like the "reality" shows and "idol" crap.
Media gives what the public wants. 2 million people asked to attend his memorial; that doesn't even begin to illustrate the number of people who wanted to attend yet knew it was impossible. The media exists so that we can be informed. They did an excellent job of providing information for us who are interested in the life of this star. We spend far more time honoring 'stars' who are alive by giving hundreds of millions of dollars in one weekend to a 2 hour movie. Get some perspective.
Ray - this has nothing to do with the "liberal" media you obviously disdain. This was (as everything else about Michael Jackson) about MONEY!! The networks knew, the advertisers knew that many people would be watching for any info.
Stop blaming everything on liberals. Some of us are actually decent people who care deeply about things - Michael Jackson not being one of those things. Most of us have far better things to do!
I find it ironic that you (Carlos) is spending so much time and energy to talk about whether or not there is too much coverage of Michael Jackson. My guess is you're trying to stir up controversy to keep the story going until there is more to actually report.
I´m still crying... I can´t beleive that Michael is not smiling and dancing. I´m still in shock.
May God bless Michael his children, his mother, brothers and the rest of his family. May God bless and heal the world. That is what we need now more than ever.
I love you Michael
You might not realize it in your grief, but Michael Jackson rarely smiled and/or danced. He was NOT a happy person, in any way, shape or form.
His freakish looks and behavior erased any talent he did have.
Judy is right!
I am a big Michael Jackson fan, but even I think the media overdid the coverage. I think the comment Carlos made about the obviously heartfelt emotion expressed by Michael's eleven year old daughter at the end of the service was totally inappropriate and in bad taste. I don't believe a child of that age is capable of putting on a "show" at a time like that. While Janet hovering over her, stroking her hair, etc. was annoying, I believe the child was overcome with emotion at the loss of her father. Very disappointing comment Carlos.
I heard no complaints from people when the press gave EXTREME attention to the late Anna Nicole Smith's death, whom really had no significant career accomplishments, and to the late Princess Diana (whom I loved), but everyone seems to have a problem with Michael Jackson's death receiving so much coverage. I don't understand that because Michael Jackson was not your "average performer". He was a true professional and very talented at I think that you Mr. Carlos Watson and Mr. Deutch from CNBC have BEEN VERY DISRESPECTFUL and the two of you have some real mental problems!!!!! Michael Jackson, I feel did some strange things in his life, but he was a human being and his great career, family, and memory should be respected!!!! THERE WAS NOTHING STRANGE ABOUT MICHAEL JACKSON'S MEMORIAL SERVICE OR HIS FAMILY!!!!
Good afternoon, Carlos. As a 50 something redneck in rural SC I try to be musically diverse, I like some of MJ's music. Whatver his personal and musical agendas were, the Memorial Service did a wonderful job of bringing out the MJ his friends and family know and love, an image denied to most of us obviously. I watched it all except for Rev. Al and it was a masterful presentation, made even more remarkable by the limited time to put it all together. MJ was already in danger of media over exposure by the "We smell blood in the water" media segment before his death. Most of the death coverage is clearly oriented to keeping viewer shares and thus ad revenues up. A whole day of coverage on Fox News? When did they fall in love with MJ? I like your show, its lively and thought provoking, not just talking heads. Wail on!
I agree with Robynn. Carlos Watson did not even take the time to watch Micheal Jackson's Memorial, so why would he discuss it on his show? He refers to the economy problems, Are we not supposed to show Respect forMichael because we are living through a bad economy? Michael holds the record for giving to the most Charities. He was loved WORLD WIDE! Maybe when the Media turns back to the negative aspects of Michael's life, Carlos will be more interested. I was also surprised and disappointed and I could not watch the rest of the show.
I sat through the "re-broadcast" of the Memorial last night. I am really disappointed with the MSNBC treatment of the event. I was wondering if MJ was going to be burried in a Lexus, Kia or Volvo because every five minute commercial started with a car add. I don't like the fact that I can't hear about our National Health Care debate, after a 12 hour day of work, but I was fortunate enough to find out that the Federal Representatives held a moment of silence on June 25th AND they are proposing a bill to"officially acknowledge Michael as an American Icon" I believe the Representative from Texas said that they would "debate this bill in the House" soon. People in Michigan will be so thrilled in their cardboard box homes - as soon as they read about it in discarded papers! I'm sorry he overdosed on a drug he should not have had access too. Maybe if we had had NATIONAL HEALTH CARE in this country he would have had a better physician and it could have been avoided - I guess we will never know - but we will have a bonafide ICON. Way to go MSNBC for your crack coverage on what REALLY Matters!
YGBSM!! The assassination of a sitting President of the United States in 1963 did not get this much coverage. All the brain-dead Hollywierd celeb-u-twits and media takling-heads are running out of superlatives and accolades heaped on an admittedly talented entertainer but a wanking, talking disaster of a drug-addicted, pedophile of a child in a man's body.
All the sad, pathetic individuals who sit in front of their televisions all day, every day soaking up this bull crap every day, hanging on every new word of politically-correct pretend praise need to learn to live their own life rather than try to live vicariously though the life of this twisted and sick individual.
And to KA Davis...I think the ANS freak show was equally despicable. Two low-life individuals who ended up undeservedly being worshipped as gods.......indefensible!
It is very bad that someone .. anyone who is 50 should die so early in life, but Michael Jackson had professional and personal stories that the media just love to cover. Let me say just one thing, if all the money spend on teddy bears, flowers, time on TV coverage and that funeral could have been spent on a large donation to a charity like the American Heart Assoication (since he had a heart attack), that would have justified the time and money
If everyone thinks that this coverage and "Memorial Service" was about Michael; you are sorely mistaken!
All this attention is above making MONEY. As an exiled PERVERT he was of no value! He will make more money for the family, promoters, lawyers and record companies DEAD than alive. The so-called comeback tour would have destroyed sales and promotions! After a couple of appearances, in his current stupor, the tour would have been canceled and the adoring public would have gone away!
So, Who do you think killed him?
Likely not the physician; he is about the only one of the entourage that would not have benefited! But will it be investigated....not likely....too much money at stake!
wow, can't believe people take the time to write giberish like this. get a life.
Glorifying a pedofile in the mainstream media typifies what's wrong with this country's "news" agencied. Yes, he was a talented entertainer, as were John Lennin and Elvis Presley, but as far as I can remember, neither of them paid Millions to molest children.
hmmm...sounds like you have insider information on pedofiles. Get a therapist.
Whether MJ was a child molest or not I do not know and no one else. Everyone that judge was you there? I was happy to celebrate his life.
...but I bet you wouldn't have left your young son in his care, would you?
If you want to celebrate his life, celebrate not just his talent as an entertainer but the entire freak show; including his drug addiction, his irrational phobias, and his predeliction for young boys.
You're in Easy Mode. If you prefer, you can use XHTML Mode instead. |
When Princess Diana passed, her death got a lot of coverage, so why is it so wrong that Jackson's death has gotten a lot of press coverage?
