Love the Old Man and his Nittany Lions. Would also like to see the Hawkeyes do well, also.
excellent offensive line, best defensive backfield in the big 10, arguably the best linebacking group in the conference. Ricky Stanzi is much improved. A healthy Jewell Hampton will help alleviate the loss of Shonn Green. The biggest potential detriment is their very difficult conference road schedule.
I am beginning to realize why I never check NBC, MSN, or MSNBC for any responsible coverage of anything. They don't even have Iowa in their Top-25, yet they homer 4 the Domers at #22? Wow. OK, so Iowa winning the Big Ten might be a stretch, but if they can split the 4 tough road games, 6-2 might get a co-championship and will get a New Year's Day Bowl Game. It will be nice to crush the Michigan Ferrets at Kinnick this year, regardless of what happens the rest of the way. Go Hawks!
Penn State recruited receivers well, and they should perform well in the new offensive scheme given their speed. The defense will be strong again, anchored by the return or Sean Lee. Ohio State is always tough, and Michigan State will definately challenge; however, Penn State plays Ohio State at home this year. Count on the crowd to be electric, and they will definately contribute to the game. Michigan State is away; however, Penn State always plays them tough. I give Penn State the slight edge in the Big Ten this year.
I think when you talk about the Big Ten there is a lot of hype in Penn State and Ohio State but I think that we should watch out for Iowa and Michigan State. People are counting them out way too soon. Iowa beat Penn State last year at home and they only have a more improved team this year. Coach Ferentz is 3-1 against Penn State on the road. I think Iowa will come out of those four tough road games with 3 wins and 1 loss. I think of they play with the same efficiency on offense as they did at the end of last year they will have no problem finishing in the top of the Big Ten despite what the critics say. Iowa was the only Big Ten team to win their bowl game and it was against an SEC team. I'm just saying...
That NBC top 25 is messed up. Notre Dame 22? come on?
Andrew - Notre Dame is iconic to NBC and MSNBC, its religious. Weiss has a halo around his head. He's already been forgiven for the upcoming 09-10 Irish season that may be slightly better than last year. Interesting thing - the further they get into Weiss picked players, the worse they get. Guess Willingham knew how to recruit. Washington has been a mess since tricky Ricky.
ND will always be in the top 25, period, no matter the performance. Not very subjective, and why few even take NBCs polls seriously.
I agree with the other comments concerning the Iowa Hawkeyes. I also believe that they will be improved this year, and am also surprised they were left out of the polls. The polls are nothing but "political" anyway. They're not a true denominator of what certain teams will do. I believe that Penn State is the team to beat for the Big Ten title. Look forward to college football getting under way. Much more exciting than pro ball.
Big bucks fan but I have to totally agree with everyones views. I think there is too much hype on Pryor, its like everyone forgot of all the talent the buckeyes sent to the pros. QB's cant do it all, I mean Krenzel got one in 03 and it wasnt because of just him, he was surrounded with talent and was a consistant passer. I dont want to take anything away from my beloved buckeyes but I dread a demoralizing season with potentially some tough losses at The Shoe (Sept. 13) USC (Sept. 26) Illinois (Oct. 10) Wisconsin (Nov. 14) Iowa and then Happy Valley in the mix. Michigan is a flip of a coin and dont laugh because Rich-Rod is a very smart man and could come out and make jaws drop so dont count them out on any day.
RR second year will be much improved. No week of the schedule is a given for anyone.
I'd like to pick bucks, but 3 years of straight flops with better teams doesn't instill an ounce of confidence. They're on the way down.
Iowa???? Ferentz is a joke - overpaid and can't even keep his own kid out of trouble. UNI lost to Iowa instead of Iowa beating UNI. Iowa beat Iowa State but that is because ISU needs to recover from the Cheezit years. Even with Cheezit, ISU still put a whooping on Iowa.
Big 10 Champ will be Ohio State or Penn State. Michigan will be back but not for another 3 years. Wisconsin is a non issue. They don't play football in the state of Indiana. Illinois is struggling. Spartans are inconsistent.
Go Bucks!!!!!!!!
DB-349374 I guess you must be eating your words with Iowa 9-0 and having beating Penn St, Wisconsin, Michigan St all on the road. Iowa is for real.
September 18th.....Iowa 7-0.....Ranked 6th in the BCS........Go Hawks. They find a way to win.....and could loose thier last four games but that probably wont happen so wake up college footbal fans and with open arms invite Iowa to the National spot light. We will see what kind of press the mainstream media gives the unbeated Hawkeyes this week. Probably not much since they are all in bed with Florida, Alabama, Texas and Notre Dame. All the critics should really quite down a bit and praise Forentz and staff and the kids playing their hearts. DB-394379 is in denial.
Money helps a great deal to win college football games. I don't like it but it is true. .
Iowa runs the table and a bid for the National Championship. Only four games to go! Pretty cool headlines for Iowa Fans. Good Luck Iowa and Go Bucks.

Joe Pa will go out in style if this is his last year, even if it isn't, Penn State will shock the world, and I'm a Badger fan...LOL
