Went to Japan & back by ship as a kid. Learned to love the ocean. The entertainment you can get on land. Why go to sea & then ignore it?

These gigundous ships they're coming out with are ridiculous, as are the so-called entertainment amenities. Old fashioned cruising is best.

With so much on the ship, there's no need to go ashore! Save the adventure for ports and relax at sea.

I also like pampered, but the prices are too high.

Celebrity is the best. Royal Caribbean, Carnival, etc. are like cattle cars. HAL's not bad too, if you're wheelchair bound.

Some of these ships are becoming floating malls and amusment parks. Ill try the Carnival Dream but not the Oasis. I just want sun & sea!

Since I work in a large casino full time, "excitement" is the last thing I want on a cruise. Seems those ships no longer exist, however.

For me, cruiseing is about ports of call and relaxation. I prefer the small ships with unique ports of call and onboard non-activities.

I for one don't feel the need to be entertained 24/7. Life is fast and furious, a vacation should be a restful break from the everyday craziness.

This ship should be BANNED. This is nothing but a pollution maker and remember the blue whale dead on the beach? You will see more of this if these things are allowed to be legal. GET rid of them.

I fully agree with you! I cruise for vacation with no excursions planned (no stress from schedules), no gambling (I hate losing), no drinking (throwing up is not a favorite), staying up late partying (I sleeeeeeeeep). All I do is float on the water, stap on the feed bag, catch a variety show, and stretch my legs at ports of call.

I am going on the new Carnival Dream in October on a 12 day European cruise. Never sailed Carnival but the ports of Italy, Croatia, Spain and Manaco they are doing on this special cruise (the ship was built in Italy) were too good to pass up! Carnival isn't my kind of cruise line, so having a four story water slide isn't what I will be doing! I would rather have a beautiful library to check out books, a comfortable chair to sit in and a great glass of wine to drink on ANY cruise!

We've sailed on Carnival lines as well as Royal Caribbean -- I found the food on Carnival wasn't up to the usual standards (what they were 20 years ago), but RCCL has the BEST food of all the lines to my way of thinking. Have a great trip tho' - ANY cruise is fantastic -- I almost have to take another vacation after a cruise!!

The whole travel community is paying attention to what guests want. And it is cool that they are finally expanding the repetoire of what an 'amenity' means. It isn't just soap and towels anymore. But many of these posters are correct - you can get the best things on land. CHeck out www.GetMoreVacations.com . There you will find vacation rental properties (the new travel darling) that provide you with complimentary amenities - free golf, deep sea fishing, water parks, amusement parks and a lot more. It is wonderful to have variety on a cruise. I welcome the change.

The best vacation experience will have components of all five areas. For me the major focus of a vacation is relaxation. However part of relaxing is pampering (in my opinion). I like have variety too, so things like rock climbing, entertainment, gaming and "cutting edge" would be things I'd do (at least one per day). I really appreciate options.

I mainly go on a cruise to relax and get away from "home/work". but after a day of that I get stir crazy and want to do other things... you can sunbathe only so much!

Plus I like the fine dining restaurants that they are now incuding on the ships... quieter and you can eat at your own pace.

You may be right on that one. Getting on and off a 700-800 passenger cruise is bad enough, not just at embarkation/debarkation, but in the ports of call as well.

They don't mention how FEW ports are equipped to handle a 1200' ship of this size and capacity. Most ports have enough problem handling a couple of 3000 passenger ships in one day. They will have to schedule this on a solo day in a port, other than maybe San Juan.

Cruising affords "something for everyone" from the inexpensive Carnival's and Norwegian's to the mass marketed Royal and Princess, to the luxury Crystal's, Seabourne's, etc. Your local Travel agent has the knowledge and experience to set clients up with the correct cruise for each individual

I have been on a few crusies and for some reason, I don't want a bigger ship. I don't want to be on a bigger ship that feels like a'big' city on the ocean or gulf. Why do I want to be on a bigger ship thats feels like bumper-to-bumper traffic during rush hour in a big city or a noisy casino with slot machines going off all the time and to walk the ship and say.., "Where did all these people come from ?". I need some fresh air and a place to relax, not a big cosmopolitan city on the ocean. I also like, when the employees on the cruise line call you by name and you know theirs. Not a feeling that the cruise employee has to 'run' to take care of someone else. Maybe, smaller is better. Mike in Montana

Do you think that you will enjoy the sea with it? You may not even be aware of the sea in it. So what kind of cruise ship is that?. Do they drive cars in there?. How do you go from one side to the other?. I am confused now. Are we talking about cruise ships or floating theme parks?
