My stays are short, usually a weekend, the hotel is just a place to sleep for me. A clean room at a low rate is all I'm looking for.

I travel a lot, and spent time in multiple hotel rooms from medium cost chains. PLEASE just put me in a CLEAN room with Heat/AC that works

Stealth gratitude is nice, but when it comes because the hotel has caused you grief, it seems a bit self-serving.

If the hotel does not come with location location location (and perhaps even if it does), you'd better make sure it delivers value, value, value.
