No, he has no significant accomplishments

This is a ploy to attempt to manipulate the actions of a man who obviously cares deeply about what the world thinks of him.

10 months, did you read the article...less than 2 months. The decision was based on what had been done during the year leading up to February 2009. A mere 2 months after taking office.

It's very sad and disappointing to see another organization show its absolute bias.

This has NOTHING to do with his color!!! If the U.S would have put an ELEPHANT in the White House, it would have gotten the Prize! This is just a clear indication of the Bias that drove the Nobel committee. Anyone in the White House other than G W would have gotten the prize.

What a bunch of absolute IDIOTS!!! If I were the other reciepients, I would definitely be insulted. Let's give out the Nobel Peace Prize for everyone who MIGHT do something important!

President Obama has initiated changes that, if allowed to bear fruit, will improve the lives of millions, if not the entire planet. The man has taken on corruption and is trying to put this country on a better path and has done more good in his first months of office than I can ever remember a president doing in my lifetime. I think, and this is only my opinion, that this country was on a morally corrupt and dangerous path before Obama took office and this Nobel prize only validates the love and pride I feel for our President as he tries to put this country on a path that will lead us into the 21st century a better and stronger nation, one not ready to sell our souls and sacrifice American lives for a reliance on fossil fuels, one that will join the world community in an effort to stop pollution and preserve our water and air...I could go on ,but how can these initiatives now be respected and applauded?

The Nobel Prize became irrelevant decades ago when they handed it to Jimmy Carter. The fact that President Obama received it just seals how irrelevantthe award really is and has been on various occasions. He may be deserving down the road, who knows, but two weeks into office before his name had to appear on the ballot!!! I didn't realize that the award looks at 18 months of campaign speeches as a prerequisite for world peace since that's the only thing he had done prior to his name being submitted. Like I said, an irrelevant award.

    Hey everybody,

The nomination deadline was February 1st, 2 weeks after his inauguration, not 10 months or 2 months. Maybe the other Nobel prizes should be given to people who hope to write a book, or hope to discover the cure for cancer, or hope to find the chemical composition for limitless energy.

This award cheapens the Peace Prize honor tremendously, but it does leave open the strong possibility of President Obama winning it again each of the next seven years because obviously you don't have to accomplish anything anymore.

Doesn't make much sense to me.....unless the award is now given for the best speach of 2009. As far as accomplishments towards world peace, I can see that he's done nothing. However, he has made America look like the big bad culprit in his speaches, so perhaps that's what they were waiting for. An American president to publically apologize for the actions of the country to world audiences. Instead of standing up for America and all that we stand for.

Look, neo-con folks and other fools: He got the Nobel not for what he "might" no, but for overwhelming centuries of racism in the US. For a Black man to become president of a nation with the kind of appalling racist history the US has is a transformative moment. It is the US finally living up to its hype. It is hope for the rest of the world that people actually CAN live up to the ideals we laid out in the Constitution, then did out damned best for 200 years to find "loopholes" in. And after 8 years of Emperor George II, he deserves it for restoring democracy to the US as well!

Here we go the closed minded morons that supported that idiot we had as president for 8 years are going to froth at the mouth, You loose your right to be taken seriously. You support a absolute idiot for 8 years that butchered our countrys reputation around the world, started a war for personal reasons killed 10s of thousands of innocent people. You need to remember just becuase half of our country is fkn retarded doesnt mean the world is, he gives the world hope, our country is supposed to be a shinning light of hope and freedom, not the fanatical mess that the right wing has turned it in to. HIstory now shows that you were wrong about everything for the last 8 years. so stfu up now and let the other guy have a chance. So sad how wrong you were about GW and now you think you have the right to bring down a pres who is actually trying to do the right thing...the right wing is turning into the american taliban.

What you dont realize is that anybody that has actually travel outside of our country has seen the hope and change he brings to the world, that its leading superpower isnt a mindless bully, but if the right ever gets in charge again we will go right back to being the sad country the right likes us to be.

The sole and simple fact that republicans, conservatives and some democrats can not see that Obama has restored some of america's good will in the world is sickening. The President of the United States, our country, was awarded the Nobel prize!! Get over yourself. We can't kill them all, we need good will. To all you "fact" bringers, nominations two weeks after he became president, when he had already as a candidate inspired an american and world wide sense of hope, is not surprising, but the vote took place later. What has he done? The Economy is steady, Banks still exist, fight for health care, closed American torture facilities, climate legislation, talked to Iran and came to an outcome, placed a supreme court justice, hosted a nuclear arms agreement, heavily lessened tension with Russia, inspired an entire generation....... What did You do this morning? Last ten months? what has ONE Republican in congress in the last ten months? With that in mind, I think I agree that having a president threaten us with terror and destruction and loss of freedom was better.P.S. italics is sarcasm. Congratulations Mr. President, the United States, All those who support peace and not a stick with our allies and enemies alike, and shame on those who preferred the stick. Your children are disappointed in you.

President Obama was a tremendously influential figure on the world stage throughout the campaign. Remember those huge crowds everywhere celebrating even the possibility of an American President who would work for peace and understanding? He immediately followed through, acting to close Gitmo and reach out to the Muslim world, just as he said he would. Obama may cause indigestion to American conservatives, but to the world he's a hero. Kind of the opposite of George W. Bush, you know?

They should have waited till next year.  Once health legislation passes, nuclear proliferation declines, and the War on Terror is resolved, he will be more than worthy.  As it is, the prize detracts from his credibility.  Maybe he'll decline the award.

And some of you people clearly have no right to posess an opinion.  He's been in office less than nine months, not ten.  Presidents are inaugurated Jan 20, not Nov 4.  And a nomination is not an award.  He was not AWARDED 2 weeks in, he was nominated.

What DID he do in the year leading up to his Presidency??? Remember, he had/has no foreign policy eperience. He went to Europe prior to the election to deliver a motivational speech and came home declaring he had achieved foreign experience.

This severely dilutes the meaning of a Nobel Peace Prize.

          In good company...
Yasser Arafat, a murderous terrorist, and criminally corrupt Kofi Anan won Noble Peace prizes, so Obama is in good company.

Ronald Regan had a big part in bringing down the Berlin Wall. This is orders of magnitude more important than anything Obama has done, yet Regan did not win a peace prize.

The Noble Peace prize has become purely poitical. No one with a brain takes it serious. Period.

Congratulations, President Obama. You make me proud to be an American.

It's such a shame that Repugs cannot come to grips, even after all this time, that they lost the election. King George II did a fine job of alienating the majority of world leaders, as well as being so divisive with the American people. You Mr. President, in your short time in office have done more to try to improve America's image abroad than the "Bushies" could have ever imagined.

You have the balls to address the hard issues, try to do better, and all the Repugs can do is cry and complain about anything and everything you do. The Party of NO, for sure. They show it every day.

You inherited a colossal mess upon entering office, and I admire your efforts to get this house back in order. Keep up the good work, Mr. President. Many of us are very proud of what you are attempting to do.

This was given for a few speeches... not action. Nothing has changed to make America or the world safer... or more peaceful. The opposite is happing... even Chicago is not safer!

This is an attempt to manipulate a weak man... by pandering to his narcissistic disorder. The only people that cannot see him for what he really is are a few Americans... a complete failure of public schools.

Maybe they shoud have given the Nobel Peace Prize to the citizens of the United States (and the non-citizens who voted anyways) for voting in President Obama. He is doing wonders for World Peace by capitulating to every despot. If America just surrenders perhaps we will all have peace.

Whatever minuscule shred of credibility the Nobel Prize Committee had is now gone. Jimbo, PLO Terrorist(Yasar Arafat), and now Odumbo? The 3 Stooges are far more deserving than the 2 empty suits and world villain. Now had Obama truly done the right thing and refused the award, and instead recognized someone truly deserving of such recognition, I at least could have respected Odumbo for that.

Big Deal Leprechaun, I could have done more for foreign policy than Bush did. It didn't take the Obamassiah to improve American relations around the world. All the Obamassiah had to do was "say" he was going to close Guantanamo, pull out of Iraq, and he had the gullible Americans in his pocket.

The 'balls', ha. All the Obamassiah has to do is introduce an idea. He can't pass a bill in Congress, he can only sign the result.

But, I will give him credit for being able to rehearse all the applause points in a speech and being able to deliver it correctly by reading from the teleprompters. Read from the left, read from the right, read from the left, read from the right. Heartwarming story, preach, preach, raise voice....you get the point don't you?

We are proud of Barack Obama's latest honor and glad that the world shares his views of international cooperation and the promotion of peaceful solutions to conflicts. The only political ramifications of this is that the "Right" will be enraged because their persistent attempts at warmongering have been soundly rejected by this president and the world community. Of course he deserves this honor for re-opening dialogues with the world community and giving all of us hope for the future. Rush Limbaugh is a fool whose comments should never be given any credibility as he himself has said he is a comedian. At this hour when we should all be proud to have such a president, his comedy has no humor, only ugliness. Congratulations Barack Obama and the United States whom he represents with such dignity and diplomacy.

The Prize and the reactions just go to show how little Americans appreciate what they have. The atmosphere of the entire world has changed because of this man. It's not only because of his election, but because of the fact that his efforts have all been toward fulfilling his promises.

There is no greater friend to peace than hope.

Silly and embarrassing. Sadly, this senseless and stupid decision drastically diminishes the value of ANY Nobel prize, including those prizes that have truly been earned by the recipients, and destroys the credibility of the Nobel organization. Much of Europe, perhaps not all of it, loves a weakened, apologizing US. This absurd decision will only weaken the US further. Where would Europe be today without the US? Bunch of idiots.

Many here do not understand Alfred Nobel's intentions for the Nobel Peace Prize. The promotion of international diplomacy was front and center. As a presidential candidate, Obama voiced his intentions to bring America back to the world stage. During the past ten months of his presidency, he has managed to do just that.

If anything, the Nobel Peace Prize Committee is encouraging Obama to continue his efforts on the international stage. This is similar to when they awarded Henry Kissenger the prize when he was in the middle of negotiations with North Vietnam. Same with Desmond Tutu who was awarded in 1984 for his efforts against apartheid even though apartheid was not abolished in South Africa until 1994.

you were wrong for 8 years about everything

Ah, the incorrect assumption that anyone who does not fall at the feet of Obama in reverent worship supported Bush and his policies. From what you said about Bush, you'd say I was right for 8 years on everything. Well, I didn't suddenly drop my brain into a bucket when Obama was elected. I'm still reading, listening and watching. Obama is escalating war, not ending it. If you think the future holds something different, some sort of change from war to peace, you're deluded. Peace and hope are nothing but platitudes; platitudes alone, platitudes without substance, do put food on the table or end wars.

If you didn't know if before, the Nobel prize is a joke. Last year Paul Krugman, the thick-headed, Keynesian economist who was wrong about everything, received a Nobel prize for economics. Al Gore, the politician and pseudo-scientist, received the Nobel Peace prize in 2007 for his fear-mongering climate warming movie. As for Obama's premature pat on the back, perhaps the Nobel committee members in Feb. were unaware of the first murders ordered by His Peaceness in Jan 2009 (http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/article5575883.ece). The Nobel prize is about as valuable and meaningful as what you might find in a Cracker Jack box.

The Nobel Peace Prize is awarded for various scientific, medical and peace related works. If Pres Obama was awarded the prize because he was a black man who just happened to become president, than it isn't Pres Obama that should be getting the award, but the American people who voted for him. The American people were the one's who pushed aside racism in order to make President Obama the president.

I know most of you Obama supporters are good people. Majority of Americans, both conservatives and liberals are good well meaning people. But most of you(both conservatives and liberals)are so caught up in this left-right paradigm, that you can't see the forest for the trees.

This Nobel Peace Prize has nothing to do with the world disliking George Bush, or Obama's charisma. It's about the promotion of a World Government. The Elite's ultimate goal is a One World Government, a New World Order.

"This morning, Americans were greeted with a shocking example of real-life Orwellian doublethink. We found out that Barack Obama was awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace.
                  .
Here is a list of President Barack Obama's deeds in the pursuit of peace on Earth:

                  * Issued an order to close the prison facility at Guantanamo Bay, but has not approved any plans to actually do so.

http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/americas/09/26/cuba.guantanamo/index.html * Oversaw a reduction in actual US troops in Iraq, only to replace them with private mercenaries

http://www.alternet.org/bloggers/scahill/140378/obama_has_250,000_/ * Expanded the war in Afghanistan into Pakistan by increasing the number of air attacks in its border regions

Recently, his administration has begun beating the drums of war with Iran, not in defense of its oppressed citizens of course, but because of claims that the country is developing weapons of mass destruction. Claims that stand in direct contrast to information provided by the International Atomic Energy Agency and even internal US intelligence reports. While there are legitimate reasons to engage in some kind of action against the current Iranian regime--WMD's are the least of them. Clearly this President isn't interested in aligning himself with free citizens of a truly liberated Iran, he prefers liberation of the Bush/Cheney variety--more commonly known as starving them with sanctions and then blowing the hell out of them.

                  ....

The most likely explanation is rooted in Mr. Obama's commitment to globalization and the United Nations. He believes very strongly that the UN is the key to global order, and has acted to bring the United States in line with UN doctrine. Sadly, that doctrine calls for substantial weakening in national sovereignty. It requires the acceptance of rules put in place not by our own elected representatives, but by unelected representatives of foreign powers--many of which are inherently corrupt."

If you really believe that the rest of the world thinks Obama is so great - you might want to read this:

Ask yourself ? Are you qualified to receive the noble peace prize

That is the NOBEL..not noble, but, I have typoitis as well most of the time.

I will admit, no, I do not deserve the Nobel. I am a civics conscious citizen who doesn't cause trouble and does my level best to get along with people. Now granted, if someone acts like a total nidget, like this guy in Lowes yesterday, then I WILL comment back.

Maybe Pres OBama, IN THE FUTURE, will be better deserving of the Nobel, however, right now, he is not. Marvelous, here is the issue and believe it or not, it is NOT the fact that Pres Obama actually won the prize. The outrage (for lack of a better term) is that he was nominated for the thing 11 days after he took office..heck, even the Nobel wwatchers were amazed; they said it was too soon. What the people who are yelling that he deserved it for al his great work since he becasme president can't seem to see thorugh their rose colored glasses is that Pres Obama didn't have TIME to do anything Nobel Prize worthy in 11 days in office.

I quote from the Nobel Prize site:

Every year since 1901 the Nobel Prize has been awarded for achievements in physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, literature and for peace.

Now, another winner, Martin Luther King Jr., even HE didn't receive the award until 1964, just 4 years before he was assassinated and roughly 10 years after he started his fight for civil rights. Note the time..10 YEARS and he did a lot more to promote things than anything Pres Obama had done as a senator or presidential candidate.

Pres Obama was nominated, not at the start of the nomination period where he would have been in campaign, but 11 days after he was inaugurated.

Even the committee admitted it was more a way of gaining Pres Obama's "ongoing cimmittment" rather than awarding him for something he had already done.

I feel like the haters are reading from the same script, I have search online but I can't find the notes. But I find it uncanny how white America has erupted with vile and hate over what is essentially an encouraging sign for the American status in the world. Sure there is lots of work to be done, religious and conservative people all over the world have made a total mess of things. But saying nothing has been done after a year is just nutty and makes no valid point. It will take time to clean up the mess, the deficit, our image, etc... But this is a wonderful encouragement that we are headed in the right direction.

Benet..again, you are missing the timeline here. Pres Obama had not DONE anything yet when he got the nomination. His work AFTER he actually got the proverbial keys to the Oval Office had not occurred as yet. The committee granting him the Nobel were going on what he promised to do, not on what he had already done. Take a look at the Nobel site..it'll give you a little insight as to what the Nobel is supposed to mean.

OK, so he hasn't done anything and looky there it got 90 some votes.

Well here is a small list of things he has done so far and another list of things he is working on.

And that is just a teeny tiny list of the things he hasn't done yet as president. B ut if you think that list is too small for you than look at what he has got in the works!!

Increase the capital gains taxes and dividends for higher income taxpayers, Eliminate all oil and gas tax loopholes, Extend child tax credits and marriage-penalty fixes, Make permanent the Research and Development tax credit, Require automatice enrollment in 401(k) plans, Require automatic enrollment in IRA plans, Create a retirement savings tax credit on low incomes, Change standards for determining broadband access, Create consumer-friendly credit card credit card rating system, Create a $60 bank fund for Roads and Bridges, Extend the Bush tax cuts for lower incomes, Repeal the Bush tax cuts for higher incomes, Phase out exemptions and deductions for higher earners, Freeze the 2009 estate tax law, Tax carried interest as ordinary income, SIGN THE EMPLOYEE FREE CHOICE ACT (making it easier for workers to unionize), Close the "donut hole" in Medicare prescription drug plan, Provide easy-to-understand comparisons on the Medicare prescription drug plans, Require insurance companies to cover pre-existing conditions, Create a National Health Insurance Exchange, Give tax credits to those who need help to pay heath premiums, create a small business tax credit to help health premiums, Require large employers to contribute to a national health plan, Require children to have health insurance coverage, Expand eligibility for Medicaid, Invest in electronic health information systems, Phase in requirements for health information technology, Establish an independent health institute to provide accurate and objective information, Implement and fund proven health intervention programs, Eliminate the higher subsidies to Medicare Advantage plans, Prevent drug companies from blocking generic drugs, Improve recruitment of public health workers, Double federal funding for cancer research, Expand Veterans Centers in rural areas, Fully fund the Veterans Administration, Reduce the Veterans Benefits Administration claims backlog, Institute electronic record-keeping for the Veterans Benefits Administration, Launch a supportive services-housing program for veterans to prevent homelessness, BEGIN REMOVING COMBAT BRIGADES FRO IRAQ, Launch robust diplomatic effort with Iraq and its neighbors, Increase the size of the Army and Marine Corps, End the "Stop-Loss" program of forcing troops to stay in service beyond their expected commitments, Review weapons programs, Set standards for when the government should hire defense contractors, End the abuse of supplemental budgets for war, Work to end NATO restrictions on forces in Afghanistan, Train and equip the Afghan army, Double U.S. spending on foreign aid to $50 Billion a year by 2012, Establish a Global Education fund, END THE USE OF TORTURE, End the use of extreme rendition, Seek verifiable reductions in nuclear stockpiles, Extend monitoring and verifications of the START I Treaty, Create national cyber adviser, Develop a comprehensive cyber security and response strategy, Increas the size of the foreign service, Expand the Nurse-Family Partnership to all low-income, first time mothers, Require Cabinet officials to host Internet town hall meetings, Expand Early Head Start and regular Head Start.

And that literally is not even half of what this guy has in the works. He is a presidential superman, plain and simple. I found all this on politifact. Now they have this whole Obameter thing that might seem like he hasn't done anything but in all honesty, the promises kept is pretty good because he made those 400 or so promises to be ones that would take two terms, so if he is averaging 50 or so a year, in eight he would get to all of them.

There's a thought...an award for the breakdown of democracy in America and for bringing Socialism to the forefront. Many countries hate the U.S. - although we are the first they turn to when there is some kind of disaster in their country. He definitely does not deserve the Nobel Peace prize - especially when he was only in office a few weeks before his nomination.

Adam, "another day older and deeper in debt" comes from the Tennessee Ernie Ford song, 'Sixteen Tons'.    I can't remember if Johnny Cash ever sang the song , but you are right, it holds true in this situation.

Both of you are mindless. You all and other like you, seems to want to see a collapse so that you can have the chance to say I told you so. But don't you realize if that happens it effects you too. The previous President didn't help American image around the world and if you don't know his policies didn't help our economy. Many were being laid off and needed help and it happened under Bush's administration. Spending (US Taxpayer) money was easy for Bush but it is not going to be easy to get us to a positive. If you all expect that it is then please I'd like for you to donate a several billion dollars to US Treasury, to the thousands of people that have been hurt by Bush's accepted low standards for the financial markets, to the thousands of troops that have been killed since the Mission supposedly was Accomplished, and then to rest of US with common sense to give this President a chance.

Ummm.... do you forget that the guy you voted 4/8 years ago is the one who started this war and got us into this financial mess? Bush had two terms to figure it out. Obama has already shifted our future for the better in less than a year. You people are just bitter losers who only "hope" the country will fail just so you can be proven right- not gonna happen. If you're not happy- get on a boat.

2.1 Worry- Another day older and deeper in debt was by Tennessee Earnie Ford and it was about being exploited by the big corporations who own coal mines. This did not exactly fit your message. Also, the debt was built up during the last eight years of the Bush administration. Even after big financial institution almost put our country into a depression, Bush and McCain both made statements that they do not believe in regulation. In effect, they are right in line with the big owners of corporations. Denying health care in order to make a profit on the stock market is immoral. Having a govt. option just like Medicare is not immoral. AT any rate Another day Older is about abuse by corporate America.

Wow... 10 months in and all of you sage philosophs are writing the obit for the U.S. already huh? We are deeper in debt because the 2 wars are now on the books, not magically disappeared in accounting wizardry. We are deeper in debt because Gramm-Leach did it's job of making banks and other financial institutions accountable to no one. We are deeper in debt because when private industry is not investing, public industry has to.

While I think this award is political in nature and is WAY premature, it is heartening to see so many people dancing on what they believe will be the grave of the United States... it is even more heartening that it is supposedly patriotic Americans doing it.

I was no fan of Bush in the latter years, but I supported him because he was the President. Shame conservatives don't seem to respect any institution that is not under GOP control.

In just 9 months, President Obama has managed to regain the respect for our country and improve its reputation that was so damaged during the past 8 years. The world clearly did not respect the arrogant, shoot- first-and-ask-questions-later approach of the previous dministration, President Obama knows that the U.S. alone cannot make peace in the world --- he knows that it MUST be a joint effort.

Obama represents partnership, openmindedness, inspiration, and best of all...HOPE. And THIS is the essence of a true leader.

BHO is spending us into oblivion, taking over banks and car companies, hijacking student loans and healthcare, setting up reparations whenever he can. Bringing in a team of radical socialists as his personal Stooges. And let's not forget destroying our competitive ability by force feeding energy policy that will bankrupt the country. Doesn't sound very peaceful to me...

Tom - Very well said! I was, at one time, a huge Bush fan. His arrogance, and that is exactly what it was, changed my mind over time. I do feel that he stepped up to the plate on the whole 9/11 thing, but then he went too far and didn't know how to back off. I believe he had good intentions, but the world is not going to accept being bullied, whether we are the world leaders or not. I honestly don't know whether the award was premature, but I do know he is making a difference and I believe his philosophies are sound and based in the real world, not the world we think we rule.

Finncrisp, quit listening to Rush. Obama is not "hijacking student loans"... the student loans were always government money that taxpayers guaranteed and banks got paid to administer. Obama just cut out the middle man, the bankers getting paid to do nothing. I would think fiscal conservatives would applaud that. I know I did. If the government is lending the money and guaranteeing the money, why pay some fat cat banker to decide who gets it? Why not keep the money you were paying him?

But no, it was Obama's idea, ergo, it must suck.

Oh, and the reparations thing makes you sound like an idiot. He has said no such thing. But Rush Limbaugh uses that talking point every other day. Good grief. think for yourself for a change!

What if Obama starts world war III? That could happen. I think the Nobel Committee needs to rethink their criteria for the award and limit it to actual accomplishments, not empty rhetoric. This is a joke and a travesty. Yasar Arafat, Jimmy Carter, now Obama. What the hell are those Norskies smoking. I'll give Odumbo the benefit of the doubt and hold open the remote possibility he may actually do something worthy of being considered for this award, but certainly not on anything hes said to date. At one time or another, nearly every president we've had, including Bush II, has uttered the very same words and expressed the same hope for peace throughout the world. This is just shameful pandering by socialists for another socialist, Obama.

Didn't the other one term President - Jimmy Carter - win the Nobel Peace Prize too?

Carter, unlike Obama, actually did work on world peace. The problem for Carter was the fact that Americans didn't care about world peace at the time.

While I had time to edit, I found out that Carter indeed won the Nobel Peace Prize - IN 2002! He was President in 1976-1980.

If you're referring to pleasing Islam extremists, I suppose that could be seen that way. He denounced us as a nation of Christians, apologized for us bombing them after they went on murderous rampages, etc. I have not heard a single thing about other countries respecting us though. And remember, in the last 8 years, Democrats were all on board with Bush on Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, North Korea....every single one of the issues. They just decided to see how many sheep could be fooled by changing their minds and suddenly being against it all with hindsight. Even I was surprised how many people bought into that rubbish.

Instead of congratulations the right wing denounces the prize committee as doing this for political reasons… What about all your right wing, “Conservative” representatives going around the world talking down the US... You are the problem… you and this so called “moral” right who is for war, torture, the crippling of our country, you backed a President who sent our jobs overseas and gave the Corporations tax breaks to do it…. You are against any form of Health Care and cry out “Socialism”, “Hilter”, and all the other crap that pours from your mouths!!!!

Go back to school and get and education because you don’t appear to have two brain cells to rub together to form one rational thought…. You do however have great hearing when it comes to Fox Opinion Network…

Obama just said that he does not think he has done anything to win the award but he realizes that sometimes this award is given as a call to action.

I respect that. They gave him a prize that you don't snub and he used the opportunity to bring a call to action.

OK Obama, your call to action is to work on the economy.

I respected Bush as President because he did have to make hard decisions. If you wish to criticize him, be my guest, that is your right. Just try placing yourself in his shoes before doing so and remember that your decision would also have affected a multitude of people who may or may not agree with you. I did not vote in this previous election, due to personal reasons. I respect Obama because he is our president. I have not, however, seen anything that has caused peace such as the award was designed for (if curious look up Alfred Nobel). If he does something later on then yes, later on give the award. As of now, I have seen nothing but talks. If it is for the hope of peace then others should have been more deserving of this award. For now though, let us try to think rationally, respect each others views and stop the insults that spread hate and frustration, not peace

Kinda funny. The Nobel Prize is based on "work accomplished during the previous year". Maybe they are recognizing Obama for his work as a community organizer. Putting together those fine groups in Chicago that kill school kids for fun.

Obama, The greatest President of the 21st Century? Are you Smoking Crack? HOHOHOHAHAHAHEEHEEHEE LMFAO! That's the biggest laugh I've had tonight! Let's see, your Socialist God, Obama hasn't done nothing in 9 months as President, much less 12 days or 288 hours in Office when his term began January 20 2009 at 12:01est, when the voting was stopped by the Committee on February 1st 2009! Tell me what he got The Nobel Peace Prize for? Was it for his Community Organizing in the Schools of Chicago, you know the one, where the Honor Student was Beaten to Death by 2x4 Clubs, I'm sure the Mother of that boy appreciates all that Obama has done for her now the he has his The Nobel Peace Prize? And another thing, The Nobel Peace Prize is Obamas, not Americas Peace Prize, it was given to Obama The Socialist byanother Socialist, and as far as being qualified to receive Nobel Peace Prize, I would say that, yes I'm MORE QUALIFIED to receive Nobel Peace Prize then Obama will ever be! Cant wait for 2012, to kick Obamas Commie Ass Out Of Office! I'll even bet you get a tingle up your leg when you hear your Liberal, Socialist God Obama Speak!

                          Adam, Worrywort and the rest of you illiterates;

You make me so grateful that I come from an Indigenous Culture that is STILL more Civilized than you "Conservatives?" whose European ancestors literally raped, pillaged and ravaged the Innocent Inhabitants and stewards of this Land. We respect our Principal Chiefs and Tribal Leaders even if we disagree with them, speaking for the Five Civilized Tribes and the North Eastern Peoples of the Iriquois Nation. We have had a True Democracy in place since the 1500's as is written in each of all of our Nations' Documents, which rest in Five Civilized Tribes' Museum in OK and the Museum of the American Indian next to the Smithsonian Institution.

When you dishonour the President as a man you shame yourselves. You should read what venemous spewings of hatred you have written and then take a good hard look at yourselves and where you come from. Have you fought for your education, do any of you have an education beyond the 7th grade? Your research and articulation skills tell me no. You all also think with with your frontal cortex and neither your left or right lobes of your brains in sync. How hard do any of you use your rational thinking and analytical areas of your brains at all? I have seen very few reasonable entries and thoughtful blogs here. If I were from another Country and reading these responses as a random sampling of typical American literacy and intellect, I would think I was in pre-Colombian era North America.

Not only has he only been in office 10 months, but he was nominated several weeks into his term. This is ridiculous. When he does something, then award him. This is like giving ALL the kids who play soccer a trophy so no one feels left out, rather than just the winners. I'm embarrassed.

I think Obama has some good ideas.....but damn. He has not done anything yet in his presidency to warrent a Nobel Peace Prize. I feel sorry for past and future winners of this award. This will cheapen their honor. If he had negoiated peace in the Middle East, re-established US ties with Iran, and ended the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan....single-handedly mind you....then I think he would have been deserving of such an award.

Your comments disgust me - as a true, real American I think your words are utterly UN-AMERICAN. Now all of a sudden because this President has received the honor you find the Nobel Peace Prize irrelevant - can you be more obvious in your hate? Throwing everyone who disagrees with him getting the award into the Republican pile is ignorant and short sighted. I completely disagree with the Nobel committee's decision to give Obama the peace prize.  He's done absolutely nothing good for this country since he took office.  He has bad-mouthed us to other countries.  He has abused his power to get government control of major industries and businesses.  He wants to force Socialism on us all.  He is taking this country to hell in a handbasket as he skips down his yellow-brick road of oblivion.

Having said all that doesn't make me un-American.  It makes me anti-Obama.  I feel the way I do because I LOVE AMERICA - too much to see it become the USSA.  If you support this joke of a president, and you hold to his values, then I say you are the one who is anti-America.  Why don't you take your president and go live elsewhere? Let those of us who really do care about this country keep it ONE NATION UNDER GOD instead of one nation under Obama.

He's made it passed September without a terrorist attack, and he didn't take six of those months as vacation, like the Shrub. he's trying to get us out of the Iraq war, the Shrub's sandbox, which, while the Shrub put us there no no reason but his lies, he couldn't get us out. He's certainly more honest than the Shrub, but that's not much because I've known compulsive liars more honest than the Shrub.

He allows us to say, the adults are in charge again, instead of the bratty, rich, bully that was running things.

Some of you seriously need to develop other sources for your news than Fox News and talk-radio. Might I suggest several different sources so you actually KNOW what is going on. And don't rely soley on American media either.

That said, the sooner all of you haters decide to abandon the Republican party, the better... On behalf of people with actual ideas and actual solutions rather than a platform of "Obama sux", we would like it back.

I was told in 2001 to get over it, the Shrub had won, and indeed he had, 5 to 4 in the Supreme Court, though not in the election. I was told again how un-American I was for asking why the government was unable to stop 9/11 from happening since the Shrub really needed that month of vaction prior to it and since he clearly ignored the briefing on it just before 9/11. Again I was told that I was a traitor to the US for asking why we needed to invade Iraq, since Saddam clealy had nothing to do with it. And again when I asked why we didn't let the weapons inspectors complete their work to make sure their was a reason to invade. I was told I was paranoid because I was wondering aloud why, just before the 2004 election, there were suddenly all these unsubstantiated terror alerts. "They would never politicize terror alerts", I was told.

Guess what? I was right and everyone that was telling me those things was wrong. The Shrub and his minions allowed, through laziness and stupidity, the worst terrorist attack on our nation in history. They lied us into a war. They gave tax breaks to corporations to move jobs overseas to hurt unions. They opened to door to the treasury and let their friends loot it. They were and are criminals that should have ajoining cells in Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas. And you don't like Obama!

I will repeats one other thing I was told time after time. "If you don't like it, leave" UnAmerican, yes, you are UnAmerican. You do not believe in the Constitution. You do not believe in freedom (except for you).Pack your bags and get out!

You might want to follow your own advice. There are dissenting views coming from our allies. Yes, it is fine to try to warm relations with those who've been our enemies. It shouldn't come at the expense of disrespecting those who have stood beside us. GWOT has not been unilateral. Check your facts. We may have the bulk of military troops, but other nations have joined the fray.

Ideas and rhetoric don't fix problems. He has already had to backtrack on his to plan Guantanamo, end our involvement in Iraq, and health care. It is unrealistic to believe someone can make important changes alone. His rhetoric about "I" will fix things is where he lost me. Nothing can be accomplished without involving those who disagree or have other ideas. If nothing else, look at the roughshod way of GW.

AARP has an article about the discussion about health care debate. Nixon began the discussion, and Democrats shot it down. Teddy himself was vigorous in his dissent. The only presidents who have succeeded have been those who formed a consensus. Both parties have caused problems. Let's look for solutions instead of name calling.

Look at it this way it's quite an acommplishment to receive the Nobel Peace Prize after only being in office 10 months. By him just being the President of the United States is obviously having a positive global impact.

Remember, it was the Shrub that was running the Hitler playbook, starting at page 1 with the Reichstagg fire/9-11. He ran every page, one at a time, and you're compareing Obama to Hitler. Read a book, stop listening to Limbaugh and Faux Lies. You're embarrassing yourself.

Honest Jo, Hitler won a very prestigious award; Time's Man of the Year back in 1938, just before he showed his true color. He too was a good orator and did little except bring his country to ruin. Let's hope history isn't repeatimg itself.

I always thought the prize was for accomplishment, not potential. So far Obama's talked the talk only. If he backs up the talk then he would be deserving, but not before he's done anything of consequence. Bringing hope sounds all warm and fuzzy, but getting results is the best bottom line for everyone.

Worrywart, I'm willing to bet one of things KSmith hasn't done is cheer at the fact the US didn't get the Olympics. And he probably didn't support preemptive strikes or torture. I'm wondering if you and your husband can say the same, given your career choices.

We live in world filled with nations, like it or not. We may be number 1 in guns, tanks and war, but build enough hatred, and it's going to cost us in lives. What part of diplomacy don't you understand? What part of being the number 1 hated country in the world prevents terrorist recruitment? There are better ways than just saber rattling!

Well EGlide, your nothing but a Bush and Republican hater! You blame him for everything that has happened during his term. None of which he could have done all on his own. No President can make anything he wants to happen or be a law by himself. Your Democrats in office supported him all the way until election time, then jumped off the bandwagon. You blame Bush for allowing 9/11 to happen, but yet Clinton decided not to off the mastermind behind it when he had the chance...twice. You blame Bush for jobs being sold out to other countries, but yet it was Clinton who signed in NAFTA, which opened the doors for the exodus of US jobs. I should know since I know several people, myself included, whose jobs now reside in Mexico.

So please, do some research yourself and open your eyes. Americans are being sold down the river by the criminals in Washington. The President, no matter if he is Republican or Democrat, is just a figurehead. They all make promises they can never keep, and blame the opposing party for their failure to keep them. But Obama has a rare opportunity to pass ever single one of his promises since the Democrats hold MAJORITY in both houses. So ask yourself, why the delay in Obama's big Health Care reform. Hmmm....some of the Democrats are worried about losing their beloved seats if it bombs when implemented. So either they don't think it is such a good idea or they don't really care about "change" and the welfare of US citizens. And since they do have majority, the Republicans get the easy out and call all vote against it.

Politics in the USA is one big magic show. Watch whats in this hand everybody, while the other hand makes the moves that make things happen. So keep your eye on Obama and his show, while the Congress & House pass the programs and laws that fit their own agendas.

When people talk about his term in office as a barometer for whether or not he should have received the prize, it just displays their American narcissism. Believe it or not, the Prize is about more than one's performance as an American president. Why does he deserve it?

He changed the way the nations of the world look at each other and at the United States in particular. Changed the nature of international dialogue from naked aggression and one-upmanship to a pursuit of comity and cooperation. Changed the paradigm from highlighting our differences to focusing on ourcommonalities. Changed the mood of the world and of America from one of despair and cynicism to hope and possibility. I don't think that's nothing.

He's just getting started for sure, but symbols aren't meaningless. I think America and the president should view this as an international mandate to pursue the ideals he ran on. Why be anything other than proud of what this represents for the country you love?

obama is the catalyst for world peace. even north korea changed it's beligerent tune. iran is looking for wiggle room but is engaging nevertheless... mostly, it's his integrity and actions that holds up. this is in marked contrast to gb and the hawks who's main "cowboy" response to the world is "who's got the bigger gun." regardless of how the world viewed the american in the past (arrogant, untrustworthy and even downright despised), american leadership has serious impact for the rest of the world. to have someone like obama leading the way is a much needed and welcome change.

Yes, I know no Prez can do everything himself, but the Shrub was on vacation for almost half of his first year in office. He couldn't do anything that didn't include a nap. I agree NAFTA was/is bad, but Unca Ronnie and the two Shrubs gave the taxes from American citizens to corporations to move factories overseas. On purpose. Unca Ronnie and the first Shrub caused the S&L disaster which was apparently the precursor to our current economy. ANd yes, Clinton did sign NAFTA, but at the time, the economy was good, wages were going up. What the Shrub did was everything he could to keep wages as low as he could while corporate earnings were going through the roof. Unca Ronnie was also the biggest drug pusher in the US while he was in office, another strike against him, too.

                              Jen,

"Some of you seriously need to develop other sources for your news than Fox News and talk-radio. Might I suggest several different sources so you actually KNOW what is going on. And don't rely soley on American media either."

All media is owned by 5 companies. Yep, just 5. You think Murdoch only owns Fox News? You know Murdoch and Hillary Clinton are buddies. And she's our Secretary of State.

"Conservative media mogul Rupert Murdoch will host a fundraiser for liberal New York Sen. Hillary Clinton, the Financial Times reports.

The mating ritual of the unlikely allies has been under way for months. Clinton set political tongues to wagging last month by attending a Washington party celebrating the 10th anniversary of Fox News, the cable news channel owned by Murdoch."

                              http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/05/09/politics/main1600694.shtml

"But while Murdoch was clearly uncomfortable in the spotlight last week, his appearance on the Hill was business as usual for Murdoch, who has spent more than three decades courting politicians. In 1980 a tete-a-tete between Murdoch and President Carter culminated in a Senate-committee probe of a government-backed loan granted to a Murdoch company. And two years ago, his bookpublishing firm bought former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher's memoirs for a whopping $5.4 million, leaving many observers wondering whether it was a goodbye gift for her support of his business interests."

Do you get your news from CNN, MSNBC, New York Times? This is what David Rockefeller had to say about our mainstream media to his fellow members at the Council of Foreign Relations.

"We are grateful to the Washington Post, the New York Times, Time Magazine, and other great publications, whose directors have attended our meetings and respected their promises of discretion for almost 40 years. It would have been impossible for us to develop our plan for the World if we had been subjected to the lights of publicity during those years. But the World is more sophisticated and prepared to march towards a World Government. The supranational sovereignty of an intellectual elite and Wolrd Bankers is surely preferable to the national auto-determination practiced in past centuries."

-David Rockefeller to the CFR( Council on Foreign Relations)

"Is it any wonder that President Barack Obama has stacked his government with numerous members of the CFR? Among these are Robert Gates, Janet Napolitano, Eric Shinseki, Timothy Geithner, and Tom Daschle. Other CFR members include CFR President Richard Haass, CFRHolbrooke, and founding member of the Trilateral Commission and CFRObama even asked a CFR member, Rick Warren, to deliver the inaugural prayer. Director Richard member Paul Volcker.

Still not convinced? Just a few days ago, when asked by a reporter what he thought the most important thing was that Barack Obama could accomplish, former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger said, "I think his task will be develop an overall strategy for America in this period when, really, a New World Order can be created. It's a great opportunity; it isn't just a crisis."

And, who vetted the Czars? Who do they answer to, and why did Obama find it necessary to circumvent the checks and balances written into the Constitution? Sounds very much like other actions condemned by GW watchers. Unilateral and secret is the same whomever choses to use them.

Great post!! Supporting peace and hope in the world is not part of the solution for the right. The only thing they want is to rule the world; like, let's make more war. Let's keep the US busy in war forever so the rest of the world hates us for our antagonism.

Don't know about you, but I think the world has had enough antagonism for a while. Promoting peace and hope is a renewed vision and it's a great one. Let's not go back to making America part of the problem!!!

I hate war as much as the next person, but sometimes in life it is necessary to fight.

We cannot expect everyone to adhere to our philosophies, wether they be on fighting or peace. NOt everyone will see the same way as we do, left or right.

What the Obama Administration is doing without any effort at all is peeling away years of corruption by the Regan, GHWBush, and GWBush Administrations and the Clinton Administration. Regan's economic Policies DID begin the unraveling of our Banking system by causing the S&L Failure(Matthew Dallek,2009). They were NOT Federally Regulated. Then he added insult to injuey by deregulating Banks. BushI continued with outrageous Military spending, generous Tax Cuts for the Rich, decreased Federal Funding for Higher Education and Incresed Taxation on the Middle Class and for the first time ever, Taxed College Students' Scholarship Monies. Clinton created NAFTA but at least left office with a huge budget surplus of over $2mil. Bush/Cheney? they had ample opportunity to take us foreward...

There is always someone wanting to turn disagreement into something racial !!!

Get a life Beat Feet. Does disagreeing with Bush make you a white-racist? People who have differing views respect the office and therefore disagree with the actions of the person in the office. Because someone disagrees with your image of the office does not make them a racist.

Someday men will look at the character of the heart instead of the color of skin. (my apologies for not getting the quote completely correct) Martin Luther King

King would not be a member of the victimologists who want to continue crying racism every time someone disagrees with Obama. Grow up!

Jen, what I meant was that everyone said that it would be scorching hot. However, scientists are showing that it is actually getting colder. We know that ice is melting, but it is getting colder. Every person I knew who followed Gore screamed global warming, global WARMING. Then scientists said it is global cooling. You don't hear anyone really bringing that up. All the people who I mentioned before, immediately shut ups when I mention about the global cooling. Why can they accept global warming, but not global cooling? Why not accept both?

Beat Feet, from what I am reading from this part (5 and down, but still part 5), no one is attacking Obama. It sounds more like an attack to those who award the prize.

After Tiger Woods won his first Masters he was touted by some as the greatest golfer ever. Now 10 years later he may actually be the greatest ever. Some will still debate it but the difference is that since that time, TIGER HAS EARNED THE RIGHT to be debated as the greatest. Obama has yet to earn that right, as good as some believe his start has been.

Our President gets a high honor, and instead of being proud, we wonder what did he do to deserve it? It takes empathy to look at our country and the world through the eyes of another country. Obama may have given speeches and reached out to the Muslim community, but as our country's representative in this representative democracy, this honor is more about praise for the people of America for choosing a more peaceful direction. We went from attacking two countries (one who harbored terrorists and one who didn't attack us at all) to actually reaching out to that region to help us defeat a common and elusive enemy. If Al-Qaeda was easy to get rid of with bombs, Bush sure tried hard. That offensive approach put the rest of the world on edge wondering who might be next?

That Obama is choosing to work with the UN in dealing with terrorism instead of the dwindling coalition of the willing is a huge relief to the rest of the world. But it's easy to understand why people are scratching their heads at Obama's award if you just watch Jon & Kate or FOX News. Those same people won't understand why Copenhagen is so important this December to the world... much more important than the Olympics.

For an award to have value, you have to put value in the award. No one is arguing the fact that he is on the right track. Only arguing that the results are not as measurable as one may wish. Therefore, wondering whether or not the award is diluted because his policies have not been able to take effect. Is there no other person in the entire world that has out earned Obama for the award? And is Obama's contribution considered as significant as Ghandi's? How about Abbas taking a more peaceful approach with the Palestinian West Bank vs. Hamas in Gaza?

Any award worth receiving is worth earning. I'm not sure that I've seen the "earned" portion yet as compared to others who have achieved the award. In fact, I see a stark contrast in the achievement, even though I agree the speeches and concepts are the same.

Unfortunately I believe his winning this will mean he passes the health care bill as his party won't vote against it now. The seniors are screwed as well as the "middle class" once the cost of this goes into effect. You wait and see it is going to be bad.

Where have you been while we have been increasing the National debt by billions to murder innocent civilians because they are a religion that became verboten under Bush?

Where have you been while we have been spending trillions to enrich a global oligarchy of world powermongers who have no loyalty to anything but their own pocket and continued instability at home and around the world to pad profits?

Where were you while your brothers and sisters in America are dying in this rich nation because the basic decencies that allow an individual to have a successful life: food, shelter, education, health care and work were all placed out of reach of the poor, working class, and working poor middle class?

Where were you while those who could no longer put food on their tables turned to black market crime and attendent violence all across America as not the economic engine of choice but of necessity?

President Obama offers us the capacity and the means to reclaim democracy and scuttle plutocracy; to build a better world instead of ever bigger burying grounds for the Common Good.

Objection, poster is pulling feces from his gluteus maximas. Obama rightly apologized for Bush's human rights disasters. Bush not only ruined the creditbility we gained from WW2, but he and all of his apologists have made us all hypocrites considering what was said and done at Nuremburg.

As for unemployment and bankruptcy, the vast majority of spending has occurred under Republican administrations by over 3 to 1. Unemployment has been largely caused by tax benefits for companies that outsource production and services among other policy disasters from the Bush administration. There is almost no policy capable of noticably reversing a national trend in less than three months, and if you truly look at all the numbers, both employment and economic benchmarks started to reverse their downward trends four to five months into Obama's presidency. You're spouting pure fecal material.

It's so funny to see the pretzel logic of people who were saying Obama's losing the Summer Olympics to Rio over Chicago indicated his weakness in the international arena and will now say his winning a Nobel prize means nothing.

Be cool now, your racisim is showing. Remember 4.50 a gallon, remember nation wide home forclosure rates. Remeber 'No pull out deadlines for Iraq'. I could go on but i have a feeling that you can't hear anything over that burning cross.

Actually DenverYo, it is the GOP and modern-day "conservatives" that sound anti-American now. You root against policies that are actually worthy... not because you deem them not worthy, but because it was Obama that proposed them. You root for failure at every turn, not because of what that would do to most Americans but because it would make the President look bad.

As disgraceful as the radical Left acted during the Bush years, you people are outpacing them by miles and it is only 10 months into this Presidency. We still have over 3 years at least left.

It is the right of those out of power to complain about those in power. Who are you to judge new policies as worthy?

This is America, and free speech is the First Amendment of our Constitution. During the War for Independence, dissenting views were part of the process that led to our Constitution. And, before that, the Articles of Confederation. But, our founders weren't afraid to change when it didn't work, see amendments and canceling AofC.

WAKE UP, PEOPLE It's about trying to find solutions that are effective, and Obama would still receive credit if he can take dissenting views and mold them.

Oh, and Aminah, it was radical Muslims that purposely destroyed the World Trade Centers and over 3000 civilians. And, it is those same radicals who initiate their attacks from within civilian populations. Read your history. Civilians have died in every conflict ever undertaken. No, it is not ideal and accidents do happen. But, 9-11 wasn't an accident. America should not sit idle and just take it. You want to kill us because we are of the wrong religion (see Jihad, Iranian, Bin Laden, etc rhetoric), you better bring a bigger stick than ours.

Did anyone see how he was received in Saudi Arabia and Russia? They disrespected him! Wouldn't shake hands with him.

Then he apologizes all over himself at the UN in front of the Iranian potentate and two days later acts indignant because of the proof brought forward that Iran is building nuclear plants for use that is not domestic. How is it that he missed the first report of the first nuclear plant published when he was then candidate? It was public knowledge but no he had reach out to a terrorist made president.

A personal friend of mine was held for 444 days by this so called "duly elected president of Iran" but I guess Obama was too busy with the prom when that was going on and didn't watch the news.

Everything you don't agree with doesn't have to be equated with such a heinous person or with the Holocaust. It IS possible to disagree without it being done so ignorantly. Those of you that can do that have no respect for our country.

Geez! Get off the Bush crap...he is GONE!!! MOVE ON!!!

I agree that comparing Obama to Hitler is going a little too far. I didn't vote for the guy and I also don't agree with some of his programs, but you don't call the leader of the free world a name like that. Whether you like it or not, he is our President and in my eyes he really hasn't done anything that would label him Hitler.

Bush didn't do anything to deserve the label either. His decisions were based on an unfortunate event that has never happened before in post WWII times. What would you have done if you were President and you saw those buildings coming down? Would you have just called up the country who hit us and asked "now why would you something like that???" I would hope not...I don't like war...I hate war, but something drastic had to be done to stand up to these guys...

I hope to God that nothing like this ever happens on Obama's watch. It sends shivers down my spine just thinking about how he would handle it.

This is not based on accomplishments, and it's only marginally based on expectations. I really think this is a parting shot at GW Bush and the people who elected him twice (especially the 2nd term).

Not that GW doesn't deserve a kick now and then - I think he was the most atrocious President in my lifetime (at least) - but I think the committee could and should have done something "honorary" for Obama if it was that important to them, and given the actual prize to someone whose accomplishments warranted it.

Of course the people of the rest of the world love Pres. Obama.  He promises them the world, and we get stuck paying for his agenda.  Move the UN to another country and let someone else pay the bills.

                                                Free, indeed...

The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office attributes >50% of the projected incremental budget deficit generated between 2000 and 2010 (or 2012, I don't recall) on GW's policies. 33% of the incremental debt is due to policies enacted during Bush's 2 terms, 20% is due to Bush's policies that have not been rolled back and are not expected to be rolled back by Obama & Congress during Obama's first year. Only 10% is attributed to new policies enacted or expected to be enacted during Obama's first year (includes stimulus and health care reform). The balance (37%) is due to impact from the changing business cycle.

The CBO's longer-term projections increase Obama's new policies' contribution, but only by a few points.

The Nobel Peace Prize has absolutely no significance anymore and really hasn't for many years. Al Gore, now Obama, who has accomplished nothing to this point is totally ridiculous. It must be a very political award rather than what it is supposed to represent. If I were Obama, I'd have to walk up backwards to receive it, I'd be embarrassed knowing I did nothing to deserve it!

What has the man done? Deadline is when he was in the office for just 2 weeks???? What has he done that fit within their timeline of accomplishments! This definitely knock the Noble down to a popularity award instead of the prestigious award that it USE to be!!!

How can he be Humbled when he HASN'T DONE ANYTHING!! Geesh, give me the award! I MIGHT DO SOMETHING WORTHY AS WELL!

Theresa, whose tab are we paying right now? Whose tab have we been paying for the last eight years. Some of you baffoons on this post need to grow up and really look at what is going on in the world and stop looking only in your own backyards. Why do you really hate this man? Did you also hate Bush or do you really think that this country and the world is better off because of him? The deficit that this country has is all Bushs. There is nothing about this trillion dollar debt that you can blame on Obama. Why not let him start with a clean slate and then criticize? Give the man a break...sure he can't do much with everyone against him. Who can? Read your Bibles and see if all of this was prophesized to happen.

You weren't worried about the tab when bush was spending the money! and he was spending the money to support a BS war against IRAQ that accomplished nothing. Obama had to prevent the world's economy from completely collasping in your face, and surprise now all of the worlds leading economists think that the worst is over. maybe we should have done nothing and watched all of the countries financial institutions fall apart. How would you have felt while in line a the bank trying to get your money after it was already gone.

This is all how this country runs. Many of you just take in what you hear but aren't studying where we get capital (money) from. There have been times (and there will be more) when the country is borrowing from future generation, IT DIDN'T START WITH OBAMA, it's called national debt. Before Clinton was in office, we were in debt, we ( the country) had to pay ourselves back but part of the taxes that were used to create the surplus during Clinton's time in office was paid with money from generations that didn't cause the debt. C'mon, it time to go take some courses in economics and US History.

Oh hum - Barack Obama is now the world's president and how proud real Americans are of our choice and of this much deserved honor for him!!

mares: You actually give a rats a$$ what the likes of Chavez thinks of us? Then you're obsessed with the trivial while mocking the pervasive, if intangible, noble sentiments Obama gives to the people of the world: Hope, Unity, Change...Peace. That's a powerful arsenal to bring to the table when you're sitting across from Iran. You anti-Euro's are all the same. Defacto so. And it accomplishes nothing and harms America outright. When will the Bush wake-up call ring for you?

Seriously, did you not even know about Condi Rice, Colin Powell, the first black in a government position was republican 300 years before the first Democrat one? That and the fact that what you just said makes every Bush basher against the war in the Bush years a racist on the left?

Actually, he won it in 11 days, or maybe 3 months and 11 days since Obama was elected on November 3rd 2008, remember, the voting on the nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize ends on February 1st 2009 of this year! This is just so Disgusting and Outrageous that Obama would get this Honor when there are so many people though-Out the year of 2008 that were truly working toward peace through-out the world who have been ignored in favor of Obama, who took office on January 20th 2009, 11 days before the voting on the nomination for the Nobel Peace ended on February 1st 2009! To select a man who's only been in office for 11 days when the voting ended for the Nobel Peace Prize, does more damage to the Nobel Committee Selection Process then they could ever imagine

It was a bash against the nomination committee, not the guy who got it. Obama didn't do the voting on this committee if you check your sources. It's a bash against the track record of the last few recipients. The people on the right side of the aisle were hoping someone who actually DID something got it. Hell, Clinton did more this year for peace than Obama did. Clinton came back overseas with 2 rescued journalists while Obama was speaking to an auditorium full of unemployed RV manufacturers.

YES. I think that President Obama changed the world's paradigm of race relations, rich-poor, nuclear disarmament, Iraq and Afghanistan wars, ethnic group relations, healthcare in America, and financial recovery in America.

And don't say he got elected...that does nothing for what you've stated above. So be honest and give us all one accomplishment...how about we start with "nuclear disarmament (by Feb. 1, 2009)

All of that is THEORY. Nothing you state is a FACT!

Nothing you state has ACTUALLY HAPPENED! Remember the deadline for nominations were just 2 weeks after the man took office. He didn't even begin his efforts to shove his "healthcare" plan down the throats of the US people. Just the other day, he made the decision to stay (deservedly so) in Afghanistan. In other words, NO CHANGE THERE.

Remember during the Bush administration, how hard the media fought to show the flag draped coffins? Where are these pictures now? There is still nearly 140,000 troops in Iraq and 30,000 or more in Afaganistan. So you think the bullets have stopped flying because of Barracks peace prize? The whole region will glow in the dark once Barrack get's through negotiating with Ahmadinejad.

The mere fact that Obama has focused the world community on the agenda of solving the worlds most pressing social and environmental issues is what this award is all about. The people of the world understand that and feel the renewed sense of hope that he inspires and that you are recluntant to feel or acknowledge. Plus the fact that he has become president of the most racist country in the world by inspiring the larger percentage of it population to come together to create change in the country for the benefit of all people while Leaving the smaller percentage , who unfortunately have little vision or hope anything beyond that which effects them indiviually, to expouse narrow racist views on internet posts. Carry On!

He was nominated when he was because he had already begun talking about the fact that world peace and unity was part of his agenda. He had already excited the world about his candidacy. There was wonderful reaction across the world when he was elected. I'm certain that you did not see this. Also you must read the reasons set up by Alfred Nobel about awarding this prize. They do not require that someone do something specific, they require that the prize be awarded to someone who wants to work toward world peace and the collaboration of nations. The prize is awarded also to someone who promotes climate change. You have to read the information about this prize. Who would you have given the prize to? Sarah Palin or Rush Limbaugh who promote hate and violence?

This country doesn't care what the rest of the world thinks unless it's to bolster their own opinions but this should be a wake-up call to the tea-bagger GlenBeck listening crowd. The rest of the world applauds a leader not overtly working on futhering American imperialism (who decided to give a peace prize to Teddy Roosevelt, though?). He probably will deserve it but this is way too early to tell.

Seggerman, this is just giving the tea-bagger GlenBeck crowd another reason to get fired up. They were starting to lose steam in their war against government health care, but this will give them a reason to rally the troops. If you like conspiracy theories, maybe it's akin to 9-11 being an "inside job," the Tea Party crowd actually infiltrated the Nobel Committee in order to create a minor Pearl Harbor-esque event that would confirm to them that the world is going to hell and trigger the "call to arms."

The United States was in a weakened position because of the policies of the past administration. President Obama has strengthened the opinion of the United States and restored respect to this nation. You probably haven't been paying attention.

Exactly how has he weakened this nation? Do you think we should continue the "non-diplomatic" approach favored during the Bush years. Where did that get us! Bogged down in an endless and expensive war(both in terms of resources and lives lost on both sides) on two fronts where the best we can ever hope for is containment of terrorism not the eradication of it. These people hate the US because we are viewed as nothing more then an occupying force. As long as we stay in Iraq and Afghanistan the hatred will continue. It's going to be an endless cycle! The only way to end it is to make some effort to open the lines of communication vice remain silent. Silence is where the real danger lies for this country not dialogue!

Do you hear yourself?? That venom your foaming in the mouth? So much hate! The fact that Obama is talking and trying to get people of the world to work on peace, and our global problems, rather than pointing fingers! The problems are sooo deeply embedded it WILL TAKE TIME to resolve them! But he is addressing it, and trying to get people to come together to form solutions! It's people like you - lemmings of Loon Beck and the party of NO that are blocking any kind of reforms that will even make these processes take LONGER to better our situation.

                                                                        {"commentId":9976770,"threadId":"697032","contentId":"3364945","authorDomain":"tpnfl"}

Great post in taking on Esk; you can feel the hate in that post. Personally, I'd rather have a President who tries to help the world rather than one who antagonizes it!! And the party of "NO" will continue to do anything they can to demoralize him and those of us who want him to succeed for our country and the world!! Sad!! from St. Pete
