
This is a response to the Newsvine-seeded article 'Fifteen Signs That American Society is Coming Apart at the Seams,' which takes a hard look at some of the negative things happening right now in the good old U.S.A.

Up in good old Auburn, Washington (known a century ago as 'Slaughter') they have the Auburn Good Old Days celebration once a year. Mostly it's a street fair with a literary festival inside the Auburn Avenue Theatre.

After hearing today that another 600,000 Americans lost their jobs in January, I spent the rest of the day running my vacuum through a 4,000 square foot house with a hangdog attitude. I tried to picture how many people added up to 600,000.

Well, it looks like the big Seattle windstorm that was supposed to follow the snow dump never materialized.
