The next morning we got up rather early so we could get started on a rather long day ahead. I was the first one up so I headed out to see the place in the daylight again and to see if the housing office had cleaned up the house while we were gone.

I took it a bit slow getting on the interstate so we wouldn't get separated right off the bat. After we both pulled into traffic I keyed the mic to make sure she was reading me and after she replied that she was we got down to the business of driving.

The next morning my wife woke up early. She wanted to make sure we'd get to the Vehicle center as close to opening time as possible. Personally I think she was ready to get to our new home and get off the road.

Once back on the road things settled down into our usual routine once more. I programmed the address for the campground into the GPS while my wife was busy tending to the kids and making sure no one colored the other instead of the coloring books we had on hand.

The next morning we woke up early so we could get a free breakfast from the hotel before hitting the road once more.

By the time we'd left Virginia behind we had gotten back into our routine once more. The older kids were still bummed that we had to leave granny but they understood, sort of.

This is the longest part of any trip. You know how it is, you can drive thousands of miles but it's the last 40 or so that seem to take a week to go.

Driving through the mountains is hard enough but doing it in a motorhome makes it even harder. Especially when the wind picks up.

The next morning I woke up to quiet. I had expected to still be hearing rain but the storm had passed on during the night and now there was nothing to hear but the quiet of an early morning.

Once we got inside the we were seated rather quickly due to there not being a lot of people around. I guess they had something better to do on the 4th like BBQ or something..lol. Anyway Red was not liking it one bit.

We fell into our routine again rather quickly after getting back on the road. I told the wife that we'd be putting on some serious miles today. She just smiled and reminded me not to drive once I started to get tired.

The next morning I woke up rather early just itching to get on the road and lay down more miles.

Here we are heading to Amarillo and eating. Things are looking up for us by now. As I was leaving the state I didn't really have any problems until I came to the branch off to head for Amarillo instead of Lubbock.

We waited for a little while. I can tell you that I hate waiting and it felt like forever. Eventually the verdict was in....it was "Maybe". I swear I could've chewed iron and spit nails by then.

The next morning I awoke to the alarm clock beeping at me. I quickly turned it off so as to not wake the wife and slid out of bed to get dressed. I went into the kitchen and grabbed a quick bite before leaving a note and heading out the door to go back to the storage unit.

The next morning I woke up early because the container was to be dropped off at around 9am. I knew it would be a long day so I dressed accordingly and went into the kitchen to fix some breakfast.

After lunch we decided it would be best to go ahead and take the lock to the storage unit and lock it up. Once I got away from the base my wife went into the back to begin the painful and time consuming process of taking off her uniform blouse.

When I awoke the next morning I found my wife trying to get into her uniform...and failing. I asked her why she was trying to get into the "monkey suit" and she told me that she had to report in again and it had to be in uniform.

The off base military housing is actually located in the town proper. My house is about 12 miles from the front gate so the morning commute for the wife takes a little bit, especially now that so many people are moving here from FL.

Well I can tell you I am so thankful I had a GPS with us. I still haven't found a really detailed map of the area. We left the base heading East on HWY60/84 for Clovis proper.

What can I say, I had heard that this base would suck....hard but I've only been here a few hours and it's already starting to leave a bad impression with me.

After getting back on the road heading for Fort Sumner things quickly settled down. The scenery was mostly flat and desert plus it was dark by now so the kids didn't really have much to look at.

Hi, Yup that's me sitting in the RV at the rest area watching the traffic wiz by in the afternoon sun as we sit and wait for the tow truck to arrive to fix my blown tire.

It was further away than I thought but eventually we saw the New Mexico sign. By now we had no doubts we were in a type of desert and not really thrilled about it but what could we do? When Uncle Sam says "go there" you just do it and hope for the best.

The next morning broke to a wonderfully clear and sunny day. I slept in a little while my wife got up and fixed herself some breakfast.
