In Finland ants survive the winter by going into a state of dormancy. Inside, it's so warm, that ants don't go to dormancy and they get little mixed. Ants might manage few winters without dormancy, but more experienced do not recommend it.

Updating Gel Nest to Sand Nest

I had ants about one month in my gel nest and then it started to get mildew. Finally I decided to abandon the nest and move queen to sand farm. But no matter the gel was spoiled, the acrylic nest is still usable.

We Have Babies, Little Ant Babies

So finally it happen, Queen Raat's first baby is born. I named her: JonesGirl. I just don't have that good equipment to get good pictures. The gel nest has a mildew problem, so I'm planning to evacuate them quite soon to another nest, which is empty at the moment.
