Well, the Assignment Zero project actually bore some fruit. Even though I bailed in the end on writing the final article for our arm of the effort, Newsvine's contributors still got credit in the "Reported By" section. Just thought y'all would like to know...

One of the problems with signing up for things on the Internet is that e-mails keep coming to your inbox. Like an old flame who keeps in touch, sometimes you are tempted to take another look.

I made my concerns about AZ known last week, and the comment thread it inspired made it pretty clear that I'm not alone in my disillusionment with the project.

So, I'm heading up the nonfiction aspect of this and I know today is the deadline but we're not gonna make the deadline. I've had a handful of people promise to tackle various subprojects in this field, but have yet to hear back from anyone.

Assignment Zero has captured the imagination of many, both within Newsvine as well as outside. Thanks to the lead by many leaders in our community, many Viners are actively pursuing projects and assignments.

This post is going to sprawl around a bit.

Now that the commotion around the introduction of the Newsvine/Assignment Zero cooperative journalism project has died down a bit, it is time for everyone to 'fess up to exactly what they are willing to give to the project.

Recently newsvine has teamed up with Assignment Zero, a collaboration between Wired Magazine and NewAssignment.Net, to offer newsvine users a chance to come together as a community and work collectively on group projects.

"In this instance, the topic will be crowdsourcing, so the phenomenon will be used to cover the phenomenon itself. Citizens with a variety of expertise will produce work to be reproduced and edited by experienced journalists."

Alright ya'll, here's the deal. Everyone is very excited about working with Assignment Zero but nobody is very sure where to start - well, let's get this sorted out.

I know this wasn't what you were asking, but in answer to your question in a completely different context: the writer of a given article will have a byline for that article in Assignment Zero.
