As ScooterDMan and I compiled our lists last week for the best albums of 2007, arranging the final order came down to the wire. Since this year has been fairly strong as far as full-length releases go, many records almost found places among the final selections.

The moment of truth has arrived. It's been two weeks and six articles since ScooterDMan and I began recapping 2007 in music and now we come to the final payoff. The apex. The number one album of the year.

1. Radiohead — In Rainbows

2. Sunset Rubdown — Random Spirit Lover

3. The National — Boxer

Thus far in ListenIn's music-of-2007 recap, the lists have been dominated by bands complex in either production, musicianship, or theme. While there have been moments of simplicity the trend has been toward featuring large, dynamic sounds or more fast-paced, high energy tunes.

Continuing with ListenIn's coverage of the best albums of the year, ScooterDMan and I are examining our number four picks. Like yesterday, his response to my selection appears in green after my description of the album.
4. The Weakerthans - Reunion Tour

4. The Narrator — All That To The Wall

Last week ScooterDMan and I began a project to lay out our top ten new albums of 2007. Each day this week we will reveal another one of our pick but much like our first installments of this series we are introducing a twist.

Rounding out my top 5 is the excellent followup to LCD Soundsystem's 2005 self-titled debut.

All in all, 2007 has been a pretty great year for music.

One of the most basic human instincts, aside from seeking warmth and food, is making lists. We love lists.
