Bob Clarke returned to the Philadelphia Flyers as a senior vice president Monday, more than six weeks after he quit as the team's general manager because of burnout.
Bob Clarke was burnt out. Ken Hitchcock was tuned out. Now both are out of jobs, part of a dramatic Broad Street breakup Sunday designed to jolt the NHL-worst Philadelphia Flyers out of the cellar and end their worst start in 17 years.
Back in October I laid out what I thought was the main problem with the Philadelphia Flyers (The Real Problem with the Flyers Family). Essentially the problem is that Ed Snider, the team's founder and President, values loyalty over hockey expertise.
You probably have heard by now about the Sunday Morning Massacre where Flyers chairman and founder Ed Snider fired head coach Ken Hitchcock and general manager Bobby Clarke. The official version of the story is that Clarke resigned but I don't believe it for a second.
