The Associated Press in particular has been mad as hell and not going to take it any more, opening fire on the Drudge Retort last year over its use of snippets from AP stories, and winning itself instant promotion to Great Satan of the Blogosphere status.

It started last week when the news organization took exception with the linking and excerpting practices at the Drudge Retort (not the Drudge Report), a liberal social news site run by longtime blogger Rogers Cadenhead.

Why the AP may have a case (and why it may not)

This article is in response to the Associated Press cease-and-desist orders against some of the Drudge Retort's bloggers for copying excerpts of its stories. I am writing from the perspective of a former reporter and a current student of information sciences.

The Associated Press is filing lawsuits against bloggers for quoting and/or linking to AP articles online. In short, the Associated Press doesn't want bloggers to link to them, quote them, look at them or even breathe in their general direction.
