The die is cast. Part way. The 2007 Meeting of Newsvine Minds will take place on May 18th, 2007 at some initial meeting place somewhere in Columbus, OH. Within two weeks I will choose a hotel at which I will rent a room to serve as a hospitality suite for the meeting.

If you don't like this headline do something about it. I am publishing this article because there seems to be little movement for a Spring Meet of Newsviners anywhere.

The Newsvine Team is proud to announce that Aine MacDermot and Mykola Bilokonsky have been selected to receive Newsvine's highest honor, the Random Act of Vineness Award - for contributions to this community that go far beyond the call of duty.

I want to spend a few moments to describe some of the recent groups that I have created and maybe inspire a few others.
Independent Music Fund
Public Group, Open Registration
This was the first group that I created during the group beta testing period.

In case you've been living in a cave and haven't seen newsvine lately (yet still managed to find this article), you know that Newsvine Groups has just gone live. They tell us it's a BETA, which means we as a community have a lot of work cut out for us.

A while back, there was quite a bit of discussion about Newsvine Guilds. If you're into the meta- scene and want to see what we all spent our time talking about in the good old days, by all means read that.

Following the second lengthy discussion centering upon the need for editors on the 'Vine I have decided to take the first steps towards an "Editor's Guild."

Journalist Thomas Friedman recently challenged my generation to become the Greenest Generation.

VineSeeders Conversations w/ Mykola Bilokonsky -April 12th, 2006

Alright gang, I want your help on this one. I would like to create a "guild," using the limited means we have at our disposal. This will be a beta guild - we just want to see how this would work.

The German guild is DEAD. I have just decided that this is going nowhere and must be shut down. I will leave the column as it is, but nothing shall happen here until the Newsvine admins start broadening Newsvine's horizons and increasing its language compatibility.

Hi everyone,
this first post is going to be in English, but after this, we're going to be posting in German.

Welcome to the very first Newsvine Tangle! In the next few days, you'll see a few articles show up in tangle.newsvine.com/tangle001. Each of the articles will list three things: either three things Bush has done right, or three things Bush has done wrong.

There are currently several user groups active on newsvine - VineSeeders, VineChat, and now most recently Tangle come to mind most readily.

If Newsvine has taught us anything over the last few months, it's this: we like to argue. We like debating in the comments, but we want more! We want to see new and seasoned viners duke it out, and we want to challenge our foes in keyboard-to-keyboard combat.

There have been a
few posts of late which call attention to a significant issue at play on the vine these days.

I'm going to provide this as a page you can bookmark - there will be no comments here, this is just going to be the central database for guild discussion. I'm going to link to all of the relevant articles, and perhaps summarize conclusions from the discussions.

There's been a lot of discussion about guilds, but I think a fair amount of it has taken place in chatboards and email - this may leave the casual reader with a passing interest at a loss as to what a guild actually IS.

This is largely a more fleshed out version of my comment on Guild Thoughts #3, so if you've read it, this is going to be largely the same material, albeit with some additions and reworking.

There are now several people around the vine who have started writing about their thoughts regarding newsvine guilds - to those following the debate, it can be tricky to make sure you get all the relevant information.

Newsvine has a great concept -- attract original writing, display it alongside traditional/wire articles, and provide spaces for people to discuss them.

Time for the third installment of Newsvine Guilds Thoughts. This is going to be it until monday as far as this series goes, so I'm going to ask a very broad question which I hope will generate a lot of feedback.

Ever since I arrived here on Newsvine, I've wanted to know more about my presence on the Vine. What do I mean? Well currently I have no way of seeing easily some of the stats regarding my presence here.

With all the talk of the guilds (see Mykola's posts regarding guilds), there has been a number of suggestions regarding a how guilds should work. theannalog, having already pushed the guild idea from content and topic centric to principle and idea centric.

Perhaps it's just a byproduct of the digital world's need to be constantly entertained, but it seems that the mantra of the Web 2.0 era has become "interaction, whenever possible, whether needed or not." Even the most erudite among us have been blinded by this phase, and have pr
