The KDE Community is proud to announce the second beta release of KDE 4.1. Beta 2 is aimed at testers, community members and enthusiasts in order to identify bugs and regressions, so that 4.1 can fully replace KDE 3 for end users.

The Ubuntu Develpers Summit finnished a week ago in Prague. Unlike conferences, summits have written output in the form of specifications which form the basis for work on Kubuntu for the next six months. You can find the Kubuntu ones on this wiki page.

When Google released Google Gadgets for Linux many could see strong similarities to KDE 4 Plasma desktop shell widgets (Plasmoids). As it turns out developers of Google Gadgets are already working on integrating Google Gadgets with Plasma.

First the good news. Fedora 9 Preview is now out -- woohoo! The bad news? Well since Fedora 9 Preview is out a little late, Red Hat has now pushed back the official release date of Fedora 9 by two weeks.

Before everyone starts to spread his opinion about KDE 4.0 let me spread some reminders:

The first KDE 4 release will come along with several major changes compared to KDE 3.x. While explanations for these changes have been posted at several places before there is a central list missing which explains the reasons to normal users.
