Another season of “Dancing with the Stars” is over and Kristi Yamaguchi stands victorious. Her expected first-place finish marks the first win for a woman since the show’s premiere year and capped off a season of overachievement from the world figure skating champion. In fact, on finale night, host Tom Bergeron said Kristi raked in more points than any celeb in the show’s history.
As the sixth season of “Dancing With the Stars” draws near the end, the quest for the mirror ball trophy is in high gear. Monday night, the remaining celebrity hoofers brought their best to the ballroom for two of the three final rounds of competition.
The sixth season of “Dancing With the Stars” hit the semifinal round Monday night, and lady luck played a role for a change. Just to mix things up, last week’s lenient lift law was dropped in favor of a shiny, new twist: random dance picks. Drawing the dances du jour from a mirrored ball (containing several smaller mirrored balls — got to love those layers of cheese!), chance dictated who was ready to rumba and who would face the foxtrot.
Just like last week, the celebrity hoofers from “Dancing With the Stars” took on both ballroom basics and Latin routines Monday night. To mix things up this time around, the stars had a chance to add a little more excitement and occasional altitude to the usual steps, thanks to judge Len Goodman’s recently enacted lenient lift rule. But the real action didn’t come from the dancers’ newfound freedom to toss their partners into the air.
Monday was mix-up night on “Dancing with the Stars,” as each celebrity hoofer took on two very different routines. The first round of major moves was strictly ballroom, and Latin numbers finished out the night. But the dances weren’t the only drastic differences.
It was ballroom’s greatest hits Monday on “Dancing with the Stars,” as the celebs took on dances previously seen this season. While each routine was new to the individual stars, they all made for a dance floor retrospective with the return of the foxtrot, rumba, Viennese waltz, mambo, jive and cha-cha-cha.
The ballroom game heated up Monday night as the celebrities faced the Latin music on “Dancing With the Stars.” The rumba and samba offered new challenges and higher stakes, but with obvious left-foots such as Adam Carolla out of the competition, each step counted for more than before.
Traditionally, the fourth week of “Dancing with the Stars,” which features the dizzying Viennese waltz and the passionate paso doble, separates the so-so celebs from the real contenders. Not so this season, as the dancing divide remains much the same.
Monday night was filled with the best and worst of what the celebrity contenders have to offer on “Dancing With the Stars.” With the first round of eliminations behind them (good riddance, Penn Jillette and Monica Seles!), the competitors pulled out all the moves — not just the good ones — in an effort to stick around.
This season’s “Dancing with the Stars” contestants caught an early break, as all 12 couples waltzed through to week two of the competition. Monday night’s performance show proved the deferred elimination paid off for some dedicated dancers. For others, it just postponed the inevitable.
Most of the men blew their “Dancing with the Stars” debut Monday night, but Tuesday gave the woman a chance to show what their dancing shoes could do. While the second part of the premiere event had its share of duds, by and large the ladies are leading the ballroom battle.
