I jumped back to me.com and clicked Find My iPhone again, and to my absolute shock and amazement, it displayed Google Maps and drew a circle around Medill St. This is an interesting (true?) tale of using the new Find My iPhone feature to recover a stolen iPhone.

As a borderline synaesthete with a debilitating sensitivity to vowels, I'll admit I was knocked a bit off balance when Apple confirmed rumors and announced MobileMe as the next iteration and rebranding of its .mac suite of online services.

What Apple doesn't grasp is that the real opportunity for the company isn't in becoming a web services also-ran. In today's Internet, we have no shortage of good web services.
