Personally I don't mind, but they better not get Uwe Boll to direct it. But for continuity sake, they should get Jackson and the old cast (Gandalf, Elrond really) to reprise their roles.

IGN.com is reporting that MGM is considering making the Hobbit into two films instead of one. I personally hope that they do not. There are number of reasons for this. To start with The Hobbit is shorter than any of the Lord of the Rings books.
