News company MSNBC (which is owned by Microsoft and NBC Universal) has bought Newsvine, its first acquisition after 11 years in business. According to MSNBC's own reporter, Newsvine is "a small but innovative player in what is known as 'participatory journalism'."

But what they're calling "civic journalism" really sounds like "citizen journalism" on a regional basis to me... CBC Television will cancel the Canada Now early evening national newscast next February and move to one-hour regional newscasts at 6 p.m. across the country.
