A Springfield Mass Transit District bus driver has received a one-day unpaid suspension for wearing a pink necktie to help raise awareness for breast cancer. The driver, 46-year-old William Jones, had to serve the suspension, but his action led the transit district to agree that employees could wear pink on Fridays October in recognition of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Once captain and defenseman Scott Niedermayer had told the team he’d be back next season, the Ducks moved Chris Pronger to Philadelphia for the No. 21 pick, which they then flipped to Columbus for No. 26. The Ducks used their own top pick, No. 15, in questionable fashion to grab Guelph (OHL) center Peter Holland, who has plenty of skill, but has shown a reluctance to play with grit and go into the dirty areas on the ice. The Ducks flipped No. 21 to Columbus for No. 26 and used that choice to take center Kyle Palmieri, who was kicked off the U.S. under-18 team for disciplinary reasons and is bound for Notre Dame. Brampton (OHL) defenseman Matt Clark (No. 37) is the nephew of former NHL defenseman Ab DeMarco. Russian netminder Igor Bobkov (No. 76) was named the top goalie at the world under-18 championships.

At No. 8 in the NBA draft, it’s hard — okay, impossible — to make a bold pick that instantly pumps ticket sales and guarantees a better team come the fall and training camp. Just the same, when the Knicks announced that they were taking Jordan Hill, an athletic forward from Arizona, with the eighth pick, their fans booed.

San Antonio Spur was supposed to get married last weekend in New York but he apparently broke it off so late that he didn’t bother some of his pals who came in for the $2 million wedding. He was going to get hitched to former Net dancer but decided that he wasn’t interested in spending the rest of his born days with her just before the weekend got underway. Nichols apparently found the strength to let her friends and family know but Jefferson seemed to forget. (New York Post)

Running an NFL draft is neither an exact science, nor a game of pin the tail on the donkey. But it may be closer to the latter than the former.

Apparently, creating a frightening environment for her own children isn’t enough for Britney Spears. Now she’s spooking random children in Beverly Hills, reports Usmagazine.com. According to the Web site, a “scantily clad” Britney popped up at neighborhood elementary school, “freaking out” students while telling the grown-ups that she was there to pick up someone else’s kids.
